Digimon Universe: Appli Monsters Heading To The West Courtesy Of Toei Animation

Ever since I was a child, stretching up to this very day, I have been in love with Bandai’s Digimon. The Anime series, the video games, the Virtual Pets, and even it’s Trading Card Game, it seems as though Digimon is just one of the few franchises that will stick with me for the rest of my life. Reading that alone, you can see why the next step into the Digital World, known as Digimon Universe: Appli Monsters, is so exciting to me, and people like myself, who simply cannot get enough of what the franchise has to offer. Until today, I was convinced that the new Anime series, accompanied by the Video Game and merchandise related to it, would never make it outside of Japan, but it is thanks to Toei Animations news that I’m able to toss those thoughts out the window, replacing them with some more positive than the last: Perhaps you’ve never heard of this, but there is a yearly convention called “MIPCON” which is, in basic terms, a tradeshow that …

Digimon Adventure Tri. Hits North American Cinemas This September

Now, reader; what is better than a Digimon Adventure Tri. official English dub release? The answer; a theatrical release of said English dub! Film Distribution company Eleven Arts have come together with Toei Animation for not only an English dub of the series of movies but to detail plans on their theatrical release throughout North America, of course, starting with the very first of the films; Reunion. It is clear to both companies that there are still fans of the franchise floating around in the West, and it seems as though they’re more than willing to, for lack of a better phrase; give a dog a bone. Working with Fathom Events, a cinema-centric company that organises events for specialty films, Eleven Arts have revealed that they will be hosting one-time screenings of the movie across 300 North American theatres on the 15th of September, but if you cannot make it to the one-night showing, do not stress; Eleven Arts also have plans to give the film a proper theatrical release soon after that of the …

Multimedia Project Digimon Universe: Appli Monsters Revealed

It’s amazing to imagine that, in the palm of our hands, we each have the collected consciousness of the known world. Past and present both reside within these small mobile devices that each of us considers an absolute necessity to have in this day and age. Does it not fill you with awe as you look towards your iPhone or your Samsung or your Android and see it as a tool to aid in the constant expansion of your mind? Not only are there apps that allow you to access the World Wide Web, which in and of itself contains literally all known information, but there are ones that allow you to learn different languages, keep a record of your schedule, help you navigate to places unknown, predict the upcoming weather patterns; if there’s something you can conceive…there’s already an app for it, and it is a fact that is somehow both exciting and frightening! Bandai, Bandai Namco Entertainment, and Toei Animation have just revealed something wonderful; the next big step in the Digimon: Digital …

One More Time: Remembering Interstella 5555

I can’t explain exactly why I started doing this out of the blue, but lately I have been listening to a lot of Daft Punk‘s most popular album called Discovery… well not exactly. I’m not really listening to it per se, instead I have been watching its one of a kind visualisation called Interstella 555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem. Daft Punk are a rather mysterious electronic pop duo, and while the genre of music isn’t really my cup of tea (I’m more of a hard rock guy) I couldn’t help but be mesmerised by this production. Discovery itself was a concept album and Daft Punk, along with the legendary Toei Animation studio, turned their album into an anime feature that is Interstella 555. Each song was transformed into an episode, sequentially and chronologically linked from first song to the last. Something like this had not been attempted before, and I don’t think it has ever been done again, which is why Interstella 555 is something worth remembering and revisiting. The visual production and story direction comes …

Toei Animation Releases Second Preview For Digimon Adventure Tri: Determination

While most, if not all, Digimon fans living around the world are focused on the recently-released Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth courtesy of Bandai Namco Games, Toei Animation thought it would be a good idea to sneakily release another preview for the upcoming Digimon Adventure Tri film Determination. The second in a series of six films, Determination focuses heavily on that of Jo Kido and Mimi Tachikawa alongside their digital pals Gomamon and Palmon. Mostly shrouded in mystery, it looks as though this second film will feature the Digimon Emperor as it’s main antagonist, despite the fact that, years earlier, his reign on the Digital World was thwarted and he joined the second generation of DigiDestined as Ken Ichijouji, who you may all know is the partner of Wormmon. Seemingly controlled by the Digimon Emperor is that of Imperialdramon who, although scary enough as he already is, looks fearsome under the dark control of this mysterious but deja vu-inducing hero. Determination will mark the very first time both Gomamon and Palmon’s Mega evolutions will be shown …

Digimon Adventure Tri Part Two: Determination First Preview Trailer Released

If you’re Digimon fans who have not yet watched the first film of the Digimon Adventure Tri series, well…I’m very disappointed in you, and that includes my fellow writers Kane Bugeja and Luke Halliday who also have not found the time to experience possibly one of the best pieces of Digimon media in the modern day. It’s fine though, you all have time to catch up before the second movie, Determination, gets it’s release, which has just been announced for March this year alongside the reveal of a preview trailer that only serves as fuel to the digital fire burning in my soul. March 12th is when the next movie will get a theatrical release across the great country of Japan, with Crunchyroll possibly picking it up for legal Western distribution sometime after. I mean…it’s what they did with the first movie, an educated assumption is that they’ll do the same with the second. Unlike the first film, Determination will not entirely focus on the character of Yamato (Matt) and Taichi (Tai). No, this film will …

See An Iconic Battle Revisited In The First Full Trailer For Digimon Adventure Tri Part One

Over this past weekend, Tokyo held it’s very own Digimon Adventure Festival that, as a Digimon fan and a guy who writes about Japanese pop culture, I was very surprised to find out about. Never before had I heard of the Digimon Adventure Festival, but I’m damn glad it exists because, thanks to it, we (the fans) have been given a nice look at the first of six Digimon Adventure Tri movies through a full trailer rather than more teasers, which I couldn’t handle for much longer. With a distinct lack of dialogue, the trailer features the movie’s theme song “Butter-Fly” by Koji Wada; the theme song of the original Japanese dub of the series which will make a return for the new films. It also features scenes from the first film, obviously, that show the re-igniting of a battle between our hero Greymon and the mysteriously evil Kuwagamon which you’ll remember was the first big battle in the original Digimon Adventure Anime series, going down in history as one of the most iconic Digimon …

This New “Digimon Adventure Tri” Promotional Image Looks Oddly Familiar

We’re now in March; the third month of the new year. This means, in only a months time, the new season of “Digimon Adventure” will begin airing and long-time fans of the series will finally be able to catch up with their long lost friends; the original Digidestined. Just incase hype for this new addition to the already expansive “Digimon” lineage wasn’t already at an all-time high, a new official image from the upcoming Anime has surfaced just over the past couple days and what we’re seeing is all too familiar. To the right of this article, as I’m sure you already know, is the newly released promotional image from “Digimon Adventure Tri” which shows the main cast of the Anime just “hanging out” in and around an abandoned train car. This is not the first time we’ve seen something like this from the original Digi-crew, in fact, we’ve seen this train car quite a few times over the series and it only ever seems to get more decrepit. I suppose that’s what it is …
