Hero Tolerance – Lost in Mistranslation Episode 112

It must be tough being a superhero. All that pressure. All those expectations. To live up to an impossible standard and never once falter. That must be why they changed the requirements to simply: Beat the bad guy. Nowadays, a hero can level an entire city as long as a villain gets their comeuppance. Bonus points if said comeuppance includes a very violent impression of an owl. -30-

The Esoteric Breath of Video Games

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild the first open world Zelda game. That right there was the first reason why I lost complete interest in it since day one. Well great, another open world video game in a market where have one too many sandbox adventures. These games are all about excessive space, most of it serving no real purpose to the gameplay or game design. Be it role playing games, first person shooters, or straight up action games, we have seen far too many open world games and it’s become the most saturated sub-genre of gaming. Given the power of current technology, they’ve done away with intricate level and game design, instead providing vast amounts of nothing to traverse through. It’s hard to invest yourself in these sandbox worlds when they feel so devoid of life and meaning. Origins There were exceptions, and I don’t know if I would call this an open world game per se, but Shadow of the Colossus on the PlayStation 2 thrust players into a desolate land, …

Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild DLC Pass, Original Story and Hard Mode Added

Nintendo often get criticised for their constant attempts to innovate, at the same time as being criticised for not being with the times as it is. You want a new console? Sure! You don’t want it to have new features? Who are you and why are you in my office?! At some point, the company cannot win. Fast forward to today where  Nintendo has announced that they will be releasing an DLC pass, expansion pack for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The pack has three  main sections and will begin to release coinciding with the games launch. The pack in total goes for $19.99 USD, which will most likely mean that Australia will be paying $25-$30. A reasonable price for what is on offer. Both the Switch and Wii U versions will be identical. The main downside to this is that the three packs will not be available for separate purchase. All or nothing, yo. The first pack, released with the launch, comes with three chests sprinkled around the large Great Plateau area, one of which …

Straight From E3 2016 – Nintendo Reveals The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild

What do we know about Nintendo’s upcoming video game The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild? Well, we know that it’s been in development since 2013, and that we didn’t see anything of what it has to offer until 2014. We know that it was delayed three times, originally intended to be released in 2015 but now slated for release in 2017. We know that it will feature a new Link, who was a given to appear in this title, albeit in a form that we have never seen before. What’s funny is, until today, we had no idea what this game is called…that is, until Nintendo decided to release several videos of the new project, revealing it to be the game we now know as The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild. This new addition to the long line of The Legend Of Zelda titles looks as though it’s set to take players on a wild journey through a new and exciting land featuring game mechanics reminiscent of older titles in the …

Australian Retailer EB Games To Premiere The Legend Of Zelda Trading Card Game

Most big franchises have their own TCG: MegaMan, Pokemon, Dragon Ball Z, Yo-Kai Watch, each of these fan-favorite franchises has their very own collectable Trading Card Game. The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess did feature it’s own Trading Card Game, but unfortunately it’s run was only short-lived. Excitingly, especially for those of you out there who are fans of the video game series, there’s going to be a new The Legend Of Zelda Trading Card Game that will feature more than just the contents of a single game: Revealed through Australian retailer EB Games’ online store; The Legend Of Zelda TCG will hit shelves on the 30th of June and will be sold in three different booster designs; one portraying Link, the other portraying Zelda, and the third portraying Ganondorf. EB Games has also listed a special edition Trading Cards Value Box which will contain four random booster pack, one random decal/tattoo, a poster, and one of three random metallic pins. This Trading Card Game, which was first announced at the last New York Comic Con, …

The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess To Hit The Wii U As HD Remake

Usually I begin articles like this with some sort of preamble, detailing the history of the piece of media in question, but for news regarding The Legend Of Zelda…I don’t think any preamble is necessary. By this point in time, everybody’s very much aware that Nintendo hosted one of their Direct presentations today, using it as a chance to blow the minds of gamers all across the world. As a part of the mind-blowing, Nintendo announced that they will be re-releasing the much-loved Wii title The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess, this time as a HD remake to be released on the Wii U. Set for a release in North America on the 4th of March, the Twilight Princess HD re-release will come bundled with the newly-announced Wolf Link Amiibo which depicts the animalistic form of the Hero Of Time as he was shown in the aforementioned video game. As it turns out, the new game will not only allow the use of this particular Amiibo, but all of the other The Legend Of Zelda …

Hands On With The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes – EB Expo 2015

If you’ve ever held a controller that has the word Nintendo printed (or imprinted) somewhere upon it, then you’ve probably heard about The Legend of Zelda. As to why Zelda is the one with the legend is beyond me, given her propensity for only battling the forces of evil in the final assault. But that’s neither here nor there, this incarnation around we are here to talk about the Hero of time, the Second Hero of Time and the Third Hero of Time. That’s right it a genuine Link-stravaganza in a game that combines the items and skills you know and love, with good ol’ fashoned teamwork. Assuming the multi-coloured mantle of champion, Tri Force Heroes presents three Links who all share a common goal and, gameplay wise, a common health bar. Thus it’s in the best interest of all involved to co-operate, as you literally cannot proceed alone. At the beginning of each level, the podiums arise bearing three items, each Link then chooses one of said items, cementing their role in the upcoming adventure. …

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (Graphic Novel) Review

The Legend of Zelda. Probably the world’s most popular RPG that still has a great deal of the populace confused as to who the titular character actually is. Though, to be fair, I’m not entirely sure how constantly being captured by an evil wizard constitutes a legend. Poor Link does all the work after all, without a word of complaint might I add…well, without a word of anything, but you get my point. Anywho, as one might gather from the title of this particular novel of graphic form, this release details the exploits of a Link to the Past, an early story in what would become a gaming legend…of Zelda. Young Link was just a humble guy, sleeping in his bed like any other night, when suddenly a voice rang in his ears. Now this wasn’t just any disembodied voice haunting him during the witching hour, it was rather the voice of Princess Zelda, imploring him for help. You know…because. Anyway, putting plot reservations on the background, our hapless hero immediately storms an enemy fortified castle, …

Warriors on the Move – Hyrule Warriors Announced for the 3DS…Briefly

In the ever expanding world of video game development, it has become more and more prevalent for information to leak when new projects are afoot…or when new releases of old projects are afoot…when anything is afoot really. People like to gossip. Anyway, Koei Tecmo was recently the victim of such a premature information release…and the source of it. With E3 creeping ever closer, it can be assumed that this particular knowledge was meant to launch in a few weeks. Rather quickly after the trailer showcasing this new project was announced it was, of course, taken down, so E3 may in fact see the release of this video anyway. Albeit with a little less surprise. From what could be gathered from the trailer, the game will play just as the Wii U version, except with a little boost to the roster. It would seem that this time around the King of Red Lions and Tetra from Windwaker will be joining this hack-and-slash experience, along with some form of transfer option that will allow them to be …

Hyrule Warriors – Tingle And Young Link Announced As New Character Additions

Why? Just…why? Ugh. So Nintendo, through their video presentation last night, have announced a whole bunch of new things for 2015 but none more disappointing than…Tingle appearing in the “Dynasty Warriors”-style action video game “Hyrule Warriors”. All of the news that came out of Nintendo Direct’s presentation last night has excited me beyond all belief but having to write about Tingle, the worlds most hated “Legend of Zelda” character, has really started to bum me out…Luckily I get the chance to also talk about the addition of Young Link who will also be making his way to “Hyrule Warriors” alongside a new Adventure Map thanks to a “Majora’s Mask”-themed DLC pack that is set for a release on the 5th of February! The new pack will be selling for $7.99 in North America so expect inflation or deflation depending on where in the world you are. This pack looks pretty cool as long as you totally disregard the forty year old fairy-wannabe and his uncomfortably “snug” leotard. Instead, give all the attention to Young Link; the …

The Legend Of Zelda: Majora’s Mask – Release Date Announced Alongside Special Edition 3DS

Here we go! What we’ve all been waiting for! A release date for the upcoming “The Legend Of Zelda: Majora’s Mask” Nintendo 3DS remake is finally here and what’s so surprising is that it’s going to be made available very soon! Clearly, this is one of the most anticipated Nintendo 3DS titles to be released in 2015 but now, after last night’s Nintendo Direct Presentation, fans of the series wanting to grab themselves a copy of the game wont be waiting too long for it because on the 13th of February this year the game is getting a release alongside a special edition New Nintendo 3DS. Isn’t that amazing!? We’re lead to believe that the date above is for both North America and Europe seeing as Nintendo never specified a difference in release dates so, far now, assume a simultaneous release. If there’s an update, you can expect to find it here. For now, check out the latest trailer for the game and start preparing to play the game that gave so many kids such …

“The Legend Of Zelda: Majora’s Mask” Is Officially Coming To The Nintendo 3DS

Yes! It’s about damn time! For years and years, fans of the long-running video game series have been ranting and raving about just how great the darker addition to the “The Legend of Zelda” series, “Majora’s Mask”, truly is and finally we’ll be able to experience it in a whole new way seeing as it has now been officially announced to be heading to the Nintendo 3DS sometime in 2015. Nintendo of America announced this with but a tweet today and, well…my heart is racing. As a child, I was always too scared to play the “Legend Of Zelda” games. Hell, I could barely get through “Ocarina Of Time” so there was no chance I’d event think about trying to play “Majora’s Mask”. Now, though, I’m a twenty year old MAN with nerves of steel! This means I can play all the games I used to be scared of…but I can’t handle minor things like stale graphics, so I’ve never attempted to play a game like “Majora’s Mask”. Thanks to Nintendo I, and all my …

Majora’s Mask Project Continues

Back in the bygone time of 2012, Zelda fans rejoiced when a trailer was released showing Majora’s Mask recreated in HD. Alas, said trailer was not official, merely an unbelievably detailed personal project. Artists Pablo Belmonte and Paco Martinez, of their own volition, set out to renew the dark entry in the Zelda franchise and continue to show the fruits of their labour. A new video reveals that the duo had no intention of merely stopping at a trailer, continuing to work on recreating environments, enemies and any other asset you can think of. Unfortunately, their project possesses very little hope of ever becoming playable, merely due to the limitations that come with a two person workforce. However, the ultimate purpose of this endeavour does lean towards this goal. The two hope to present their work to Nintendo and get the ball rolling on the remake that all Zelda fans are clamouring for. But, as it stands, we have no way of knowing how successful the artists’ project will be. So for now, all we can do is …

Monopoly Nets A Hyrulian Update

So…this is happening. The ever expansive and beloved world of The Legend of Zelda has decided to broaden it’s horizons ever so slightly and enter into the Monopoly franchise. As I’m sure you can guess, said new version of the classic board game will feature an overhaul, replacing names, money and pieces with those of a more Hyrulian feel. Those who purchase their version at GameStop will also receive a few extra little bonuses, including: custom square box packaging, a bonus Ocarina of Time token, six Item Power Cards for added game play, and an 11″ x 17″ Hyrule Map Lithograph in a Treasure Chest Holder. Set for a September 15th release, the Zelda/Monopoly fusion will cost $39.99. So grab your own board and you could soon fight your friends and family for complete dominion over Hyrule. Just like Ganon did… -30-

Sheik Brings The Noise In The Latest “Hyrule Warriors” Character Trailer

There’s nothing more beautiful than the soft melodies of a harp. There’s nothing more deadly than a shinobi-type assassin ready for the kill. Mix those two things together and you’ve got yourself one hell of a badass gameplay trailer! Last week Tecmo Koei games introduced us, once again, to the mysteriously fierce assassin known only as ‘Sheik’…that is, for those of you who don’t know her true identity. She came to us originally as a bunch of screenshots that showcased her moveset well but left a great deal to the imagination…that’s all changed now thanks to a new trailer for ‘Hyrule Warriors’ that shows off her cut-throat fighting style. She also plays some music which is nice for the enemies to hear before they’re put to their deaths. Rest in pieces. This Wii U exclusive is soon to be hitting up local video game store shelves in Europe on the 19th of September and after that in North America on the 26th of September. It’s only just around the corner. -30-

Be The Hero You Want To Be! Link’s Equipment Confirmed For Monster Hunter 4 Western Release

You know, reader, I actually hunt monsters for a living. Yeah, I actually do…in my mind, but that doesn’t mean it is any less real! OK…it kind of does, but that doesn’t mean I shouldn’t dream of one day being a world-renowned monster hunter! Ok…it kind of does. Luckily for dreamers like myself longing to take down the beats of mythology, there’s a video game called series called ‘Monster Hunter’ by industry royalty Capcom and it’s latest iteration, simply titled ‘Monster Hunter 4’, features an armor and weapon set that’s quite familiar. Nintendo and Capcom have come together once again to bring S-Rank hunters something very special and immeasurable exciting. It was just announced that hunters outside of Japan will be able to get their hands on an equipment set for their character that almost perfectly resembles the ‘Hero of Time’ himself, good ol’ Link. Now hard-core fans of the series will know that this was announced for Japanese versions of the game long ago but now they will feature on Western version of the …

“Hyrule Warriors” Character Recap Trailer Released

Here’s something to think about, reader: I, as a man who writes about things like video games all the time, sometimes find it hard to keep up to date with every single information update regarding new titles, especially in this day and age where developers and publishers are more than happy to bombard us with as many screenshots and gameplay trailers as possible. Though, as a writer, my job is to scour the internet and catch up on everything I possibly can before moving on to something else. Tecmo Koei games have, over the weekend, done people like me a serious solid with the release of a new ‘Hyrule Warriors’ trailer that actually compresses each and every one of the character introduction/spotlight videos into one awesome piece of ‘Legend of Zelda’ footage that will both bring you up to date on all the characters that will feature in the game as well as making you immeasurable excited for the pure awesomeness to come! Link, Zelda, Impa, Midna, Lana, Agitha, Fi, Ruto, Darunia and Sheik, the …

New Batch of “Hyrule Warriors” Screenshots Introduce Us To “Ocarina Of Time” Greats

For a game like ‘Hyrule Warriors’ to stand out as another fantastic high-octane action title, it needs to have a cast of highly-likable, bad-ass characters…well, if anything, it has that and so much more! Three new characters for the upcoming game were revealed but a week ago through Japan’s ‘Famitsu’ magazine, you may know them, they each play somewhat pivotal roles in the ‘LoZ’ Nintendo 64 classic ‘Ocarina of Time’: Sheik the mysterious assassin, Darunia the Goron warrior and Princess Ruto the Zora beauty were all announced as playable characters but with their announcement came no real show of just what it is they will be able to do in-game, well…that’s all changed now thanks to Tecmo Koei’s latest batch of ‘Hyrule Warriors’ screenshots. These new images focus on each of the newly-announced characters and shows them in true HD, taking down enemies left, right and center. The way it should be! This Wii U exclusive is set to hit Japan this August, which will be followed up by a European release on the …

The True Master Of The Fist! New ‘Hyrule Warriors’ Trailer Showcases Link’s Power Gloves

What’s better than a magical sword wielded by countless heroes throughout time? Good question! There’s only one real answer: Big gloves. Well, not just ‘big’ gloves…damn big gloves! Powerful gauntlets of pure brawn that grant the wearer imaginable strength while at the same time making them look as formidable as humanly possible. Today Tecmo Koei games released a brand-new showcase trailer for their upcoming ‘Hyrule Warriors’ game that just so happens to feature the hero of time Link with his new weapons; the Power Gloves. Link sheathes his sword for the time being and puts on a pair of these titanic gauntlets as he shows us he’s not too afraid of some literal hand-to-hand combat. See Link destroy hordes of enemies with nothing but brute force in the latest trailer for the upcoming game which is set for an exclusive release on the Wii U this September on the 19th for Europe and the 26th for North America. “Hyrule Warriors” – Second Princess Zelda Trailer Released

The lovely princess is back in all her kick-arse glory! Tecmo Koei has today released another Zelda-centric character trailer for their upcoming Wii U exclusive ‘Hyrule Warriors’ and I must say she is looking damn fierce! The difference between this trailer and the last? Well did the glamorous princess wield the ‘Wind Waker’ in the last trailer? No, I didn’t think so, but she does in this one! Take control of the wind as you slice your way through hordes of enemies with Princess Zelda, the lovely heroine that is ultimately as cool and powerful as the hero Link. That doesn’t surprise me though, the game IS named after her so really she should be the best out of all the characters. The new trailer shows off all her moves as she dishes out some smack down to all the canon fodder standing in her way. It goes for about a minute and a half and is sure to scratch your ‘Hyrule Warriors’ itch. The game is set for a release in Japan on the …
