One Piece: Burning Blood – PlayStation 4 Review

It’s amusing to imagine that, in modern times, One Piece has become synonymous with the video game developer Omega Force thanks to their small but impactful series of Warriors-style games of which introduced the West to One Piece video game adaptations. Three strikingly similar games later, and a few offshoots similar enough to the original, it is now an odd sight to behold when a video game based on the Shonen Jump legend One Piece is more than just a one-vs-thousands Dynasty Warriors clone. The release of One Piece: Romance Dawn in 2013 was like a breath of fresh for Western fans of the series simply due to the fact that it was NOT part of the One Piece: Pirate Warriors series. Despite the fact that it was reviewed heavily as a sub-par Role-Playing Game, it still differentiated itself from the norm, and thus made somewhat of an impact. It’s now 2016, and the long-awaited One Piece: Burning Blood has been released worldwide, exciting and delighting One Piece fans thanks to it’s lack of similarities to …

Hands-On With Grand Kingdom – PlayStation 4 Closed Beta

Something I have always admired about the Japanese Video Game industry is it’s potential for change. Unlike that of the Western market, Japanese developers will take extreme risks with their video games in an attempt to revolutionise not only specific ways a genre can be handled, but the industry as a whole. These risks are ones that Western developers simply cannot take without first deeply contemplating the almost infinite number of outcomes, most of which negative. This is one of the few reasons behind the world’s odd view of Japan. The country, and it’s media, seems overtly strange, and I believe it is because of this creative freedom. There are no limitations on what they can develop, which mostly results in odd dating simulators that involve creatures NOT human, but from time to time a video game comes along that works as a catalyst for great change. Grand Kingdom is a Japanese alternative Role-Playing Game developed by the wondrous Spike Chunsoft that takes the highly popular genre and reconstructs it in ways I don’t believe I’ve …

Bandai Namco Releases Five Minute Trailer For One Piece: Burning Blood

We know, we know, you’re all pretty freaking jazzed about the upcoming One Piece fighting game Burning Blood. How do we know? Well, hell…because we’re damn excited to! Often when a One Piece game is developed, it’s usually handled by Omega Force who love to make Warriors-style titles that pit one against many. That’s why we have three One Piece: Pirate Warriors currently available for purchase across almost all home consoles. Japan are fine, they seem to get handheld One Piece fighting game titles, so to them Burning Blood is just another one to add to the long list, but for us here in the West, well…this is on par with being a miracle. Burning Blood, unlike other mainstream One Piece video game titles, does not have players facing off against countless enemies, attacking horde after horde until one area is liberated, then moving onto another. Oh no no, One Piece: Burning Blood is a full-on fighting title that pits Logia Users against Haki Masters in ways we’ve yet to see until now. Bandai Namco …

They’re Lovers And Fighters – New Kenka Bancho Title Has You Dating Juvenile Delinquents

Any avid reader of this here website will know that I have quite a big “thing” for anything related to the odd but interesting Japanese juvenile delinquent sub-culture. Characters like Jotaro Kujo from JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders, Tatsumi Oga from Beelzebub, Yusuke Urameshi from Yu Yu Hakusho, and many other characters from your favorite Anime, manga or Video Games all fall under that particular category. Now that you understand exactly what I’m talking about, I’d like to draw your attention to a video game series developed by Spike Chunsoft called Kenka Bancho. This series of brawler video game titles mostly got a Japan-exclusive release, apart from one sole Western traveler; a game called Kenka Bancho: Badass Rumble, maybe some of you out there have heard of it. Well the same company that, in the past, made these incredible action titles have only just announced that they are adding another title to the long Kenka Bancho lineage, but it’s unlike any of the game that came before, this upcoming PlayStation Vita exclusive will not have …

Etrian Mystery Dungeon Review

The video game industry is no stranger to crossovers, and the trend only appears to have become more popular with time as developers bring their respective franchises together for an epic joint production. One of the earliest and most notable crossovers, Capcom and SNK cumulated their heated ‘90s rivalry by creating the ultimate dream battle that was Capcom vs SNK, pitching their celebrated fighting franchises into one mega 2D fighting package. Lately we’ve seen Virtua Fighter combatants make their way into Dead or Alive 5, but outside of fighting games we’ve seen some epic crossovers in the RPG genre with the likes of Project X Zone (Capcom, SEGA, and BandaiNamco), Kingdom Hearts (the still bizarre Disney and Square-Enix crossover), and with some unusual ones on the horizon like Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem. Another RPG crossover which only just recently graced the Europe and Australia/New Zealand region is Etrian Mystery Dungeon, a crossover between Etrian Odyssey (by Atlus) and Mystery Dungeon (Spike Chunsoft). A crossover between two niche and brutally challenging RPG makes for …

The Despair Continues – Spike Chunsoft Announces Danganronpa V3

Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls has finally been released across the globe. Spike Chunsoft, the developers of the Danganronpa series of depressing but enjoyable video games, understand that the world has now been given the chance to thoroughly enjoy their last amazing title, but what they also understand is that, because it was so enjoyable…people want more of it. That is what makes the announcement of Danganronpa V3 at the Sony Computer Entertainment Japan Asia Press Conference so much sweeter! Yes! Danganronpa V3! The despair continues perpetually! Not much about the game was actually revealed at the conference. Although Spike Chunsoft did reveal a teaser trailer for the game…not much was said or shown. All Spike Chunsoft have told the world is that there’s going to be a new Danganronpa game set in a new school, and it will be released not only on the PlayStation Vita like it’s predecessors but also on the PlayStation 4. That is all. Regardless of the lack of information detailed to worldwide audience…I’m sure everyone interested in Danganronpa …

J-Stars Victory Vs+ – PlayStation 4 Review

Have you ever thought about the ramifications of Goku’s Kamehameha going up against Yusuke Urameshi’s Spirit Gun? When two unstoppable forces collide, the destruction caused by it is immense. Now think, what if a powerhouse like Naruto Uzumaki went head-to-head with a speed demon like Ichigo Kurosaki. Which would win; Uzumaki’s Rasengan of Kurosaki’s Getsuga Tensho? Disregarding the millions of dollars worth of collateral damage, who would come out on top? Questions like this are constantly thrown across tables of like-minded pop culture fans all discussing their favorite characters from their favorite pieces of media, each with their own theories regarding who would best who in combat. Usually those questions can never be answer, but it is with the release of crossover fighting titles like J-Stars Victory Vs+ that it all becomes just a little bit clearer. Not since the Japan-only Nintendo DS title Jump Ultimate Stars have we seen this many Shonen Jump heroes and villains come together to throw down in the combined arena. Ever since it was announced for a Japanese release, Western …

NIS America Is Bringing “Danganronpa: Another Episode” To The West This Fall

With every good video game there comes a sequel, with a great video game series like “Danganronpa” there comes not only sequels but spin-off titles, with every in-depth series there comes unanswered questions, and with every unanswered question there eventually comes a suitable answer. Surely by now you’ve heard of the story-bridging “Danganronpa” title “Another Episode” right? Well, if you haven’t, it’s a third-person shooter that follows a cast of new and old characters in the “real world” the “Danganronpa” series is set. With no “Trials” or “Investigations”, your job as the main character is to fight off the forces of the terrorising Monokuma robots and try your darnedest to help the rebels take back the world which has been plunged into darkness. Komaru Naegi, little sister to Makoto Naegi, has been imprisoned inside a mysterious apartment for over a year. One day, she is rescued by Byakuya Togami of Future Foundation, but the rescue is derailed by a sudden attack of hundreds of Monokumas. Komaru soon discovers that the city has been taken over …

It’s Time To Meet The Full Character Cast Of “Kenka Bancho 6: Soul and Blood”

Here’s something I bet you didn’t already know: “Kenka Bancho 6: Soul and Blood” has today been released over in Japan. Yep, it sure has. Why am I upset? Maybe because I’m not Japanese, I don’t live in Japan and right now I don’t have the latest video game from possibly my favorite series of all time. Fans of SnapThirty will know that I have a certain “soft spot” for the sub-sub-sub-sub-genre that movies like “Crows Zero” and games like “Kenka Bancho” slot into so for me to not have this game in my hands right now is just heart-breaking. Luckily for me, and everyone else like me out there who love this series, Spike Chunsoft have released a launch trailer which basically takes audiences through the game’s character cast from the main character to the main antagonist. Even though it’s all in Japanese, I think true fans will be able to get the just of what is going on. There’s a lot of punching, a whole bunch of kicking, some radical hairstyles and some …

Danganronpa: Unlimited Blade – The Very First Mobile Game In The Series

Now THIS is what “Danganronpa” fans have been asking for ever since the release of the first game! Yes, this is true; Spike Chunsoft have today announced that they will soon be releasing an iOS/Mobile game titled “Danganronpa: Unlimited Blade” which, unlike the rest of the titles in the series, will feature no real puzzle solving and, in fact, none of the gameplay elements fans of the series have come to know and love. This upcoming free-to-play game will star the main cast of the first “Danganronpa” game and will play host to a gameplay style somewhat similar to that of “Angry Birds”. Basically you choose a team of your four favorite characters and use slingshot-like touch controls to send them flying into enemies. Spike Chunsoft have also said that each of the characters are going to have spoken dialogue lines during “action scenes”, whatever that means, and that each of the voice artists from the main game will reprise their roles for this one. As of right now that’s all we really know about the …

Kenka Bancho 6: Soul & Blood – First Trailer And Story Info Released

Yosha! This is what I’ve been waiting for! Last week it was anounced that a brand-new ‘Kenka Bancho’ video game title by Spike Chunsoft is set to be released on the Nintendo 3DS sometime in the near future and fans of the series the world over threw up their bloody hands in an act of pure excitement. This week, today to be specific, Spike Chunsoft has officially opened up the website for the game and with this comes the games very first trailer as well as a story synopsis alongside some of it’s more interesting features. The trailer, though incredibly short, is good enough to get any true fans heart racing and features everything that made the series popular but with what looks to be a whole bunch more, including upgraded graphics and a new style of cell-shaded cutscene made to look like the pages of a Manga. There’s still been no word on a release date for Japan or otherwise, but Western fans are still hoping that we get lucky enough for the game …

Spike Chunsoft Announces New “Kenka Bancho” Game

Here’s the deal: If you’re a constant reader of the site than you’d know how big a fan of the video game series ‘Kenka Bancho’ I am. The first and only time the West was able to legally get their hands on a video game from this series was all the way back in 2009 with the release of ‘Kenka Bancho: Badass Rumble’ on the PlayStation Portable thanks to the wonderful people over at ATLUS. Ever since then there’s been a hole in my heart than can only be filled by experiencing the punky action of juvenile Japanese delinquents going head-to-head in fist fights. About a month ago, in the last ‘Nintendo Direct’ video presentation, a new game was teased that had fans of the series the world over scream out in hopes that what they were seeing was a new ‘Kenka Bancho’ title, well thanks to the latest issue of Famitsu online publication it has finally been confirmed. The game is called ‘Kenka Bancho 6: Soul & Blood’ and it is going to be …

Danganronpa: Another Episode – Overview Video Released

Spike Chunsoft and Nippon Ichi Software’s upcoming ‘Danganronpa’ video game spinoff title ‘Another Episode’ is slowly approaching it’s official release and it’s driving fans of the series absolutely crazy simply because it looks so damn good! Bridging the gap between ‘Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc’ and ‘Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair’ which has just been released around the world, ‘Danganronpa: Another Episode’ tells the story of what was happening in the outside world during the time of the Monokuma invasion. This is something that doesn’t get detailed too greatly in the main video games. Switching from the puzzle genre to the third person shooter genre, ‘Another Episode’ puts players in the shoes of Komaru Naegi as she tries to survive in a world where robot bears are uprising and killing all who stand in their way. She, alongside a team of freedom fighters, must now battle day and night in the hopes that they can overthrow what is looking to be one of the most powerful tyrannical regimes in fictional history. Armed with a modded bullhorn, you …

Not A Fan Of Fighting? That’s OK! ‘Danganronpa: Another Episode’ Has Got You Covered!

Allow me to start off by saying; I actually know a couple of people who enjoy video games but don’t enjoy video game combat, so it makes sense that some people out there would just rather experience a story instead of unnecessarily slaughtering waves and waves of enemies. Me? Well…I’m a little different, violence is kind of my thing. The upcoming video game spinoff title ‘Danganronpa: Another Episode’ recently got a bit more interesting with Spike Chunsoft releasing information regarding a couple of the game’s difficulty settings. The most intriguing of the trio would have to be the easiest mode that allows for players to take a non-combat approach to the game. In ‘Genocide Mode’, players will be able summon the insane Genocider Jill who you may remember from the first ‘Danganronpa’ game. Good ol’ Genocider will jump out of nowhere and carve up all the enemies in your path allowing you to stroll on through the beautiful environments until you reach a cutscene. This can be done approximately infinity times throughout the game, also…there’s …

“Danganronpa: Another Episode” Official Website Update Information

How would you deal with a robot bear uprising? Hide in a corner until you’re inevitably found and killed or stand tall and fight back against the fuzzy force that oppresses you?! I would probably go with the ‘hide in corner’ option but in the recently announced ‘Danganronpa’ third-person shooter title ‘Another Episode’, you don’t really have a choice. Set in between the games ‘Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc’ and ‘Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair’, this game tells the story of Komaru Naegi as she fights to survive in the now-apocalyptic Towa City. The forces of Monokuma, the series antagonist, have risen up and taken hold of the once peaceful city, killing all those who stand their ground. Spike Chunsoft, Japanese video game developer, have today updated the official website for the game revealing more information regarding the new characters which were showcased in the latest issue of Japan’s ‘Famitsu’ magazine and explaining more about the odd but affective weapon of the game’s hero. Komaru, as you may already know, wields a weapon made specifically to take …
