Electric-type Boogaloo – Lost in Mistranslation Episode 123

Everybody may want to be a Master and everybody may want to show their skill, but they are not all Ash Ketchum and lack the prerequisite marketability needed to warrant a movie deal. Also, they didn’t convince a whole generation that they “Gotta catch ’em all!” and that a world without Pokemon is a horrible fate one should not wish upon their worst enemies…even if their name is Gary (insert expletive) Oak. -30-

Ultra Evolution – Pokemon Sun and Moon Sequels, Pokken Tournament DX Announced

Well that sure came out of nowhere, didn’t it? And I’m not just talking about the announcement itself, but the organisation of said announcement. Okay, to be fair, the majority of the latest Pokemon trailer was devoted to the newly announced Pokken Tournament DX. As the new and improved Switch iteration of the oddly entertaining Pokemon/Tekken hybrid fighting game, DX promises an increased roster and a few new modes. The headliner of the aforementioned new roster is Decidueye, Rowlet’s fully evolved form and all around cool archer bird. Fellow starters Litten and Popplio also join the cast, but on the support side of things. Which is nice, though fighting as Incineroar would have been cool…because of him being a wrestler cat and all. Tagging along on the end of this trailer (which centres on a brother venturing across a country, playing Pokken at every given opportunity), Pokemon Sun and Moon are seemingly aligning themselves with the Black and White mentality: One sequel apiece. Newly crowned Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, the games seem to promise …

Japanese Video Game of the Year Awards – 2016

It’s that time of year (give or take a few weeks) where we all take a second and ponder the year that was. However, rather than use this time for introspection or self betterment, why not just think about which games were most fun? Which ones took you by surprise, which ones met your expectations and which ones exceeded them by far. If only there were some already completed list to help spark your though process, complete with pictures and individualised blurbs… Why, who put this here? What luck! A (somewhat) well thought out list of Japanese based video games that made 2016 fun. Talk about a lucky break. Why not give it a look? I’ll meet you down at the bottom of the page. Have fun! GOTY – Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth 2016 was, in the eyes of many fans, a year dedicated to the long-running Monster Taming franchise Digimon. At the forefront of it’s year-long victory was none other than this year’s Game Of The Year; Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth. The first worthwhile …

First Line Of Generation Two Pokemon Now Available In Pokemon GO

Niantic, the developers behind the once-explosive, Pokemon GO have always had plans to distribute Pokemon from the series’ second generation across the world of the augmented reality video game, but specifics on when that would come about were never revealed. Educated speculation dictated that once the developers saw a decline in the popularity of the title that they would begin with the rolling out of the next generation, and it seems as though now is the appropriate time. It’s close to the end of 2016 and it is looking as though Pokemon GO has quickly run out of steam, lasting but a few months before simmering down to what it is now. Granted, those few months were absolute lunacy, with many non-players hoping that the craze would fade away sooner rather than later. Personally, I thought the game would remain far longer in the public eye but it is now little more than a memory, hopefully the introduction of baby Pokemon from Generation Two will help fuel the the train of popularity once again. The …

Pokemon Sun and Moon – Review

In life, there is nothing sweeter than the sharing of experience. We as humans actively seek companionship from others as a trade for our own for more than basic primal needs to belong. There is a joy that comes with sharing that simply cannot be explained, but it is a necessary element of happy and healthy living. Pokemon was first conceived with this in mind: Satoshi Tajiri built Pocket Monsters on a foundation made up of interactivity. Swapping weird and wonderful creatures with friends new and old is the foundation on which Pokemon was constructed, and to see such a base concept come so far speaks volumes about the human mentality. Twenty years later and Pokemon is far more than what it once was, breaking through the proverbial ceiling and reaching higher into the stratosphere than anyone thought possible, and yet with this latest iteration we’re delivered something humble in essence. Even this far removed from the original games, Pokemon fans are still sharing experiences with one another, trading from across the globe and battling like never …

Niantic Nerfs The Rattata And Pidgey Population With New Pokemon GO Update

As a man living in the suburbs of Sydney, it was the high rate of Rattata and Pidgey appearing in my area that somewhat turned me off of Niantic’s Pokemon GO. Well, that and the fact that everyone around me was far better at it and, me being quite the bad sport, chose to forgo developing my virtual Pokedex early on. It’s become somewhat of a running joke that Trainers living in the suburbs are the metaphorical Kings and Queens of rodent Pokemon because unless you’re venturing into more population dense areas like major cities chances are you’ll not be catching anything more than a purple rat or a brown bird; two of the most boring Pokemon to ever be designed.   Niantic have recently revealed that, with the new update of the game, the population of Rattata and Pidgey across the board is going to be reduced heavily. Finally! Rattata, Pidgey, and Zubat will now be far more difficult to come across, though you can still expect some, and they will no longer hatch from …

New Pokemon Sun and Moon Trailer Officially Reveals Starter Final Evolutions

Overnight, the Pokemon Company International released a brand-new trailer for Game Freak’s upcoming Pokemon Sun and Moon that just so happen to ultimately reveal the final evolutions for this generation’s starters which, despite having been leaked quite some time ago, people continuously hope for with the release of any new Pokemon Sun and Moon information. As it turns out, once again, the famous “Chinese Leaks” are almost entirely correct, the only thing missing at this point in time is the Water-Type Arcanine featured in said leaks, but seeing as all other information has been correct up until this point in time, I have high hopes. Decidueye, the final evolution of Rowlet, is based on an Archer and is a combination of Grass and Ghost-Type. It has the ability Overgrow, and it’s signature move is Spirit Shackle which disables the enemy from leaving battle. Incineroar, the final evolution of Litten, is based on a Professional Wrestler and is a combination of Fire and Dark-Type. It has the ability Blaze, and it’s signature move is Darkest Lariat which …

Alola! Welcome to the Island – A Look at the Pokemon Sun & Moon Demo

Though the ever awaited release date of November 18th lies on the horizon still, this Halloween month has provided us all with the chance to briefly visit the brand new world of Pokemon. With a stealthy companion by our sides and a ukulele tune in our ears, let us all explore a fraction of the Alola region. That being said, given the nature of a demo, I’ll throw down a TLDR for all those who want the meat, without having to tolerate me chewing the fat. The city featured is known as Hau’oli City A Trial is tasked at Ten Carat Hill, in which you must photograph two Jangmo-o and two Hakmo-o (one of whom is a Totem Pokemon) Z-Move strength changes based upon its utilised move – Gigavolt Havoc is shown to posses a power of 175 (Thunderbolt), 160 (Electro Ball) and 100 (Nuzzle) – as does its position as Physical or Special Z-Crystals may be given to multiple compatible Pokemon at once Battle Bond is also increases the power of Water Shuriken (which is now …

Pokemon Sun and Moon – International Trailer Reveals Even More Unseen Evolutions

It was only but a few days ago that the world was blessed with the much-anticipated monthly leaks of Japan’s CoroCoro magazine. This latest issue gave us a look at Type:Null and Jangmo-o evolutions, as well as a quick glance at an Alolan Grimer, but The Pokemon Company international have just released an English trailer that shows us all that and much, much more! Silvadi’s English name is Silvally, and it’s ability was changed from “AR System” to “RKS System“, inching closer to speculation that it has something to do with the God Pokemon Arceus. Jangmo-o’s evolutionary chain also got a name change; it’s middle form is now Hakamo-o, and it’s final is Kommo-o. There is also now a vibrantly-coloured Alolan Muk! In regards to new Pokemon; evolutions for Cutiefly and Bounsweet were also revealed. Cutiefly will evolve into Ribombee, and Bouncesweet will feature two evolutions that go by the names Steenee and Tsareena. The latter will learn a move unique to it called “Trop Kick“; this technique lowers the opponents attack whilst also dealing …

Pokemon Sun and Moon – CoroCoro Leaks Reveal Type:Null and Jangmo-o Evolutions

Type:Null is, arguably, the most intriguing Pokemon since Mewtwo, and that is perhaps because of their similar backstories. While Mewtwo wasn’t necessarily created to destroy Legendary Pokemon, it WAS cloned with ultimate power as the basis. Type:Null, upon reveal, quickly rose to the top as favorite among fans anticipating the new game. Speculation developed regarding just what this creature is under that intense mask, and with the new CoroCoro magazine leaks, well…we finally find out! Yes, it’s that time of the month wherein which the news that is supposed to be broken with the physical release of Japan’s own CoroCoro magazine is instead leaked online thanks to an unknown citizen of the internet with early access to the new issue. This month’s is quite exciting considering it has not only revealed a new Alolan form, a Poison/Dark-Type Grimer, but the aforementioned Type:Null Evolution, Shiruvadi, and the entire Evolutionary chain of possible Pseudo-Legendary Jangmo-o: It’s middle Evolution is named Jarango, and it’s final is named Jararanga. The two latter Pokemon will be a mix between Dragon-Type …

Pokemon Sun and Moon – Middle Starter Evolutions Finally Revealed

This is a crucial time in any Pokemon Trainer’s life; it’s the period prior to a new Pokemon video game being released, and it’s a point in each of our lives wherein which we live in a constant state of anticipation as we wait for more Pokemon to be revealed, periodically adding new ones to our, so far, fictitious team of six. Now, no matter how many Pokemon Game Freak reveals between the first trailer of the new game and it’s release, none will be more important than that of the starts and their evolutions. The starters were introduced to the Pokemon-loving world quite some time ago, which makes the reveal of their Evolutions as a part of this new trailer all the more sweeter. Yes, Game Freak and Nintendo have, overnight, released a new trailer for Pokemon Sun and Moon that finally reveals the middle evolutions of the starter Pokemon Rowlet, Litten, and Poplio. Their named are Dartrix, Torracat, and Brionne, and their designs somewhat match up with the final evolutions depicted in the …

New Pokemon Sun and Moon Trailer Reveals Passimian and Oranguru

Game Freak have today released another trailer for their upcoming Pokemon Sun and Moon duo of games that, as well as formally introducing us to two previously-revealed Pocket Monsters, give audiences a look at the Pokemon Passimian and Oranguru. Ever since the infamous “Pokemon Sun and Moon Chinese Leaks” fans have been waiting on bated breath to see just how accurate they are, and as more official information has been revealed it has begun to seem as though the details present in said leak are almost all correct. With the reveal of Passimian, the “rugby monkey“, just another feature of the “Chinese Leaks” is confirmed to be completely legitimate. Alongside Passimian, audiences are introduced to Oranguru, and both forms of Rockruff’s evolutions, now called Lycanroc. Passimian and the Midday version of Lycanroc will be exclusive to Pokemon Sun, whereas Oranguru and the Midnight version of Lycanroc will be exclusive to Pokemon Moon. The trailer also features a look at the game’s character customisation capabilities which are far more extensive than the previous games, and also …

Beauty and the Ultra Beast – Pokemon Sun & Moon Trailer Details UB-02

Ultra Beasts; the new hotness that are taking the world of Pokemon by storm…maybe, I can’t corroborate that, but it sure does sound exciting doesn’t it? With the jellyfish/hat that is UB-01 already as revealed as mystery allows, it is time to numerically move on. UB-02, that’s where it’s at. That being said, this number is one that exists twice over and does so in two very different forms. Split between Sun and Moon as version differences, it seems as if the twain shall never meet and these two forms will retain plot device distance from each other. For the bright inclined, UB-02 takes the form of Absorption, a buff Mosquito man that looks as if it could punch through anything stupid enough to get in its way. For those leaning towards darkness, UB-02 appears as Beauty, a lithe mantis woman who is said to outrun lightning should it so be inclined. So pretty tough customers, not that you could gather that from a name like Ultra Beast. As far as their role in the …

School’s In for Summer – Pokemon Sun & Moon Anime Reveals First Trailer

Throughout the wonderful world of Pokemon, there exists an institution thats influence spreads far and wide…within a single town in any given region. I speak of course of school. Placed within the main series games as a source of knowledge, which is admittedly only useful if you have never played Pokemon before, these buildings are rarely story relevant and can often be skipped past entirely. However, this is no longer the case in the anime we all know, love and have watched at some point. Casting off his successes in the Kalos region, Ash has set his sights on the brand spanking new Alola region and all that lies within (or at least he will once the anime reaches that point). However, rather than continuing his journey as per the norm, our rambunctious, perpetually ten year old protagonist is picking up the books and entering the hallowed halls of education…or something. Look, it’s Pokemon, classes will most definitely revolve around battle theory, battle practicality and battle experience, considering how little else there is to do …

Pokemon Company Reveals Youtube-Exclusive Anime Series “Pokemon Generations”

Three years ago, Pokemon Generations was seen for the very first time on Japanese television. Exploding in popularity, this short series reminded Pokemon fans of all ages just how epic and heart-pounding the events of the original games were, so it only makes sense that, a few years later, Pokemon would once again attempt to bring such events to the Anime medium albeit on quite a larger scale. The Pokemon Company International have just revealed their new Youtube-exclusive, for now, Anime series titled “Pokemon Generations” that will take key moments from the games spanning all generations and showcase them to anyone willing to watch. This series will consist of eighteen episodes, each ranging from about three to five minutes long, starting with events from the original generation of games and making their way up to the more recent titles. The Pokemon Company International had this to say: Pokémon Generations looks back at each generation of the Pokémonvideo game series, diving into the stories of the games more deeply and getting to know characters and Pokémon better. …

[UPDATE] Pokemon Sun and Moon – September CoroCoro Leaks Reveal Rockruff Evolutions

Of course! Here we have another batch of leaks straight from the unreleased pages of Japan’s own toy and video game magazine CoroCoro. Before I officially move on to detail the contents of the most recent link, may I just mention that CoroCoro is the greatest source of any news, Pokemon or otherwise, because it’s most recent, unreleased issues clearly aren’t kept in as tight a vault as they should. Like water in a colander; it’s contents never stay contained. Ever since the introduction of the resent Alolan dog Pokemon, Rockruff, many news sources have explained that there’s much to be learned about it’s evolutionary tree, which today has been confirmed to have at least two branches, how about that? Yes, these particular leaks happen to focus on Rockruff and it’s dual evolutions; one which is altered because of the effects of the sun, and the other because of the effects of the moon. As many have speculated; Rockruff does indeed have a Werewolf-like evolution when exposed to the Moon’s rays, and a more “tame” …

New Pokemon Sun and Moon Trailer Features A Vacational Professor Oak

As of late, the Pokemon-loving audience have been forced to digest quite a lot of Sun and Moon-centric information, especially with the release of the last International trailer which introduced us all to Type: Null, Ultra Beasts, and the Aether Foundation; things never before seen in any other previous Pokemon title. Well, with so much information to store in your long-term memory, it’s sometimes hard to fully grasp all of what Pokemon Sun and Moon has to offer, at this point in time, so Nintendo have decided to release a new trailer that, more or less, revises everything we have seen up until this point in time. A fresh region, a lack of Gyms, a new team of antagonists, and a whole bunch of new Pokemon; Sun and Moon is set for a worldwide release this November and despite everything that HAS been revealed, we still have so much left to discover. Featured, ever so briefly, in this compilation trailer is a character yet to receive a formal introduction, but many of us veteran Trainers …

Plus Ultra Beasts! – Pokemon Sun and Moon Reveal Some Interesting New Characters

Since its reveal, Pokemon Sun and Moon have been doing some new things with the tried and true formula of the Pocket Monster universe. No gyms, new forms and some of the strangest naming conventions to date have polarised Pokemaniacs the world over. However, in its latest release, Sun and Moon may have just one upped themselves. With a whole new faction joining the fray and two Pokemon who are tenuously described as such, this upcoming adventure in Alola may just be the strangest one yet. And there’s been a shapeshifting alien virus in the canon for years, so you know this is seriously off kilter. Alolan Raticate CATEGORY Mouse Pokémon TYPE Dark/Normal HEIGHT 2’04” WEIGHT 56.2 lbs. ABILITY Gluttony/Hustle Because urban areas are their main habitat, their diet is higher in calories than ordinary Raticate. As a result, they have become hefty. Alolan Raticate prefers to eat only fresh fruits and high-class ingredients. There are rumors that a certain top-notch restaurant takes advantage of Alolan Raticate’s taste buds by bringing it along when choosing …

Rattata Embraces The Dark Side in Pokemon Sun and Moon, Munchlax Rocks Up

The allure of the dark side was too great for Rattata in Alola to overcome after the introduction of the Rattata killing Yungoos, sending Rattata fleeing into the dark of the night seeking salvation in the shadows. During Nintendo’s 3DS Direct conference they revealed that Rattata would be receiving an Alolan form much like other Kanto Pokemon that spread to the region. The Rattata will be dark type and will indeed feature a radical moustache. On top of that reveal, Nintendo also confirmed that earlier adopters of the Sun and Moon games will be able to receive a free event Munchlax with Snorlax Z stone held item. The Munchlax event will run through until January. No details were revealed on a dark Raticate but one would presume a dark Rattata wouldn’t evolve into any old normal Raticate. That said we may as well consider the supposed ‘chinese leaks’ to be gospel at this point. Bring on the rugby monkey! -30-

Pokemon Sun and Moon – World Championship Trailer Reveals Crabrawler

Over in San Francisco, the Pokemon TCG World Championships have officially begun, and what better way to celebrate the start of such an event than with a lively opening ceremony featuring a brand-new trailer for Game Freak’s upcoming Pokemon Sun and Moon? The answer; there is no better way! This new international trailer features a few Pokemon that have been previously revealed through Japanese-only outlets, but alongside the reveal of their English name comes a Pocket Monster we’ve yet to see until now: Crabrawler is a Fighting-type Pokemon that is based on both a Crab and a Boxer, hence the name. It can be caught with either Hyper Cutter or Iron Fist as it’s ability. Both the sandcastle Pokemon now have English names; Sandygast and Palossand, both of which feature the ability Water Compaction which allows the user to double it’s defence when hit with a Water-type technique. The pre-evolution of Bewear now too has an English name, and it is just as cute as the Pokemon itself: Stufful. Judging by what looks to be …

Pokemon Sun and Moon – New Trailer Introduces Audiences To Turtonator

Thinking back on it, Game Freak’s long-running series of Pokemon video games actually feature many turtle-based designs. We have the Squirtle evolutionary chain, the Turtwig evolutionary chain, Tirtouga and it’s evolution, and Torkoal, though I’m sure I’m missing a couple. If you’re a fan of these armoured reptiles, than I’m sure you’ll be a fan of the newly-introduced Alolan-native Pokemon Turtonator, which has just been revealed to the world through Game Freak’s latest international trailer for the upcoming Pokemon Sun and Moon games. Oddly enough, this trailer focuses solely on the single Pokemon, and explains that it is a Dragon and Fire-type with the unique move Shell Trap that, when activated by an opponent landing a physical attack, dishes out devastating damage by detonating the explosive substance on it’s own shell. The Pokemon Company International also released quite a detailed explanation of Turtonator, which I have provided for you just below: Because Turtonator lives on volcanoes, feeding on sulfur and other materials found near volcanic craters, its shell has a layer of explosive material—mostly sulfur. When …

UPDATE: Full Trailer Released – Pokemon Sun and Moon – Leaked Trailer Screenshots Introduce Us To MORE Pokemon

Hah! I bet you think that CoroCoro scans are the only Pokemon-related leaks to populate the web pre-new game release! Well, if that IS indeed the case, prepare to be surprised! As it turns out, Nintendo international are set to release a new trailer for the upcoming Pokemon Sun and Moon Game this weekend, but some lucky citizen of the world was able to get a look at it early. Instead of releasing the trailer early, which is what many others would have done, this mysterious person has simply taken a myriad of screenshots and posted them instead. The screenshots show Pokemon already revealed, alongside images of Team Skull, the new region’s antagonist team, but as well as what we saw in the latest CoroCoro leaks comes three new Pokemon; one of which is an Alolan Form of a Generation One favorite. It seems like many older Pokemon are receiving the “Alolan Form” treatment, with the latest being that of Raichu who has taken on somewhat of a surfing gimmick. Morelull is a Fungus-based Pokemon that …

August CoroCoro Leaks Reveal More Pokemon And Region Antagonists

While seeing actual brand-new Pokemon is what keeps the fandom in a constant state of excitement during this pre-release period, there are a great deal of other interesting elements to a Pokemon game that make up the entire experience, and therefor are just as intriguing, if not moreso. The August issue of CoroCoro was set to officially reveal a batch of four new Pokemon, alongside two more Alola variants of first generation Pocket Monsters but, as usual, a great citizen of the world has gotten their hands on the issue early and posted pictures online. Nuikoguma (Japanese name): The pre-evolution of Beware. It is Normal and Fighting-type. Sunabaa and Shirodesuna (Japanese name): An evolutionary line based on sandcastles. They are both Ground and Ghost-type. Yowashi (Japanese name): An aquatic Pokemon that can change forms, joining with a school of other Yowashi to create a larger creature. It is a Water-type. Alolan Meowth: This particular breed of Meowth comes from a long line of royalty, and is now a Dark-type Pokemon. Alolan Marowak: This particular Marowak was …

Pokemon Sun and Moon – New Trailer Introduces Alternate Versions Of Classic Pokemon

Unlike what many have imagined, Nintendo and Game Freak’s upcoming Pokemon Sun and Moon video games will not just be featuring brand-new Pokemon specific to the Alola Region. While these new breeds are the most exciting, Game Freak have decided that the resurgence of love for Generation One Pokemon is something that is just as important as building popularity for contemporary Pocket Monsters, not that the classics need MORE love. In a new trailer, released on the official Pokemon Youtube channel, the world is introduced to a new batch of Pokemon from the Alola region that have never been seen before, but they’re also accompanied by some familiar faces that have gone through certain changes thanks to this region’s tropical environment. The trailer is featured just below: While the new Pokemon Oricorio, Minior, Gumshoos, Fomantis, Lurantis, and Mudbray have already won over the fandom’s audience, they’re overshadowed by the alternate forms of Vulpix, Ninetails, Sandshrew, Sandslash, and Exeggutor, who have not only gone through a physical change but also a drastic Type change. This new …

Pokemon Sun and Moon – Game Freak Introduces Six New Pokemon In Latest Trailer

This article’s title is, unfortunately, a small lie. There isn’t six new Pokemon because, well, technically there’s only four, but that’s only because two were revealed through leaked scans of the latest issue of Japan’s CoroCoro magazine a week or so ago. Regardless, that doesn’t make this new trailer released by Nintendo and Game Freak any less exciting! Hitting the net overnight, this new English trailer for the upcoming Pokemon Sun and Moon games introduces audiences to some divisive new Pokemon in great detail as Game Freak also updated the game’s official website to include detailed explanation of just who these brand-new creatures are. Alongside information regarding the recently-introduced lineup, Nintendo and Game Freak have also taken the opportunity, through this trailer, to reveal a new mechanic that allows for players to host their own Global Link Competitions. Also returning to the upcoming games is the option to Hyper Train your Pokemon through fun mini-games. Below I have provided for you said explanations, followed up by the official trailer, so make sure to have yourself a …

Pokemon Sun and Moon – CoroCoro Leaks Reveal Kiteruguma and Mimikkyu

We’re at a critical point in Pokemon Sun and Moon’s pre-release stage wherein which you have to consider that, despite how legitimate sources seem, perhaps the leaked Pokemon you are looking at could be entirely false. In the past, many of us have been fooled by “leaked scans” from mysterious sources, and it has conditioned us to doubt everything we see on first glance, especially when what we’re looking at isn’t exactly what we thought the minds at Game Freak would produce. Take, for example, the two newly-revealed Pokemon, Kiteruguma and Mimikkyu, who have just been introduced to the world thanks to leaked scans of the latest CoroCoro magazine. Now, one of these Pokemon looks like something you’d find in a Japanese claw machine, whilst the other looks as though it was designed for nothing more than a gag. Despite this, it looks as though these new Pokemon have been confirmed as legitimate additions to the new generation, and no matter how odd I personally think they look, it seems as though they’ve taken the internet …

A Poison Paradise – Salandit Revealed for Pokemon Sun and Moon

Poisoners prepare! That’s right Pokemon Trainers, another lovely little face has joined the slowly expanding roster of Sun and Moon. Who might this particular entry be you ask? Why, none other than Salandit, a devious little ragamuffin that will surely infuriate you to no end when these games roll around. Why you ask, yet again? Well, Salandit possesses a sneaky little ability that allows it to poison Pokemon…doesn’t sound special, does it? I mean, all Poison types can do that…but not quite like this. You see, Salandit is able to spread this toxic love to those types previously immune; Poison and Steel. Now do you understand? Because I sure as heck do and now I sure as heck want one of these guys. Ability aside, this guy looks awesome. A toxic lizard? Yes please. Also, it’s Poison/Fire? Even more yes please. Of course, I don’t necessarily want to fight one… Salandit CATEGORY Toxic Lizard Pokémon TYPE Poison/Fire HEIGHT 2’00” WEIGHT 10.6 lbs. The Magnificent Seven – New Pokemon Revealed In Japanese Sun And Moon Trailer

I feel as though I say this every single time I write an article regarding new Pokemon but; there’s nothing more exciting than such a reveal. The period leading up to the release of a new Pokemon game is perhaps the most thrilling time for fans of the long-running franchise, and such a delightful lead-up to the release has not been changed with the upcoming Sun and Moon. While, up until this point in time, we’ve seen a few fairly interesting new Pokemon, this batch of seven revealed through a Japanese trailer for the game have me, once again, excited for this new generation…that’s not to say I wasn’t excited previously. Drampa, Togedemaru, Charjabug, Vikavolt, Cutiefly, Bruxish, and Tapukoko are the names of the newly-revealed seven that have just been introduced to the world through this new trailer. A set of Pokemon the likes of which we’ve never seen before, this group features not only a larva that resembles a small bus, a Dragon-type that looks as though it belongs in the film The …

Check Out Kotobukiya’s New Trainer Red ARTFX J Pokemon Figure

Everybody seems to know who Ash Ketchum is, but all the true fans of Pokemon know who the true master is, and he doesn’t get handouts from his Mum back in Pallet Town that’s for sure! He’s a rough customer that, after his Pokemon journey came to an end, decided to traverse the harsh elements of Mount Silver, only to call the peak of said mountain his home. Many courageous trainers would follow in his footsteps, literally, just for the chance to challenge him, often loosing and perhaps perishing on the way back down the mountain. Red is the truest champion of the Pokemon world, and now thanks to Kotobukiya’s upcoming figure release, you will be able to harness his ultimate power and show it off to your friends. Japanese retailers have now opened up pre-orders for this new item which is set for a November release. The Trainer Red ARTFX J figurine, which is accompanied by an equally bad-arse Pikachu, will set you back 9,180 Yen (about US$88), but it will be worth every penny …

Pokemon Sun and Moon E3 Trailer Reveals Pikipek, Yungoos, and Grubbin

Nintendo has hit the Electronics Entertainment Expo (E3) in a big way this year, as they have in previous years, with the reveal of not only a couple of brand-new video games but also by introducing the audience to three of the new Pokemon set to appear in their highly anticipated duo of games; Pokemon Sun and Moon. Revealed a week ago by the Japanese video game magazine CoroCoro were Nekkoala and Iwanko, the Koala and Poi Dog Pokemon, and thanks to the E3 trailer for Sun and Moon the world has been introduced to three more; Pikipek, Yungoos, and Grubbin. Pikipek: Category: Woodpecker Pokémon Type: Normal/Flying Height: 1’00″ Weight: 2.6 lbs. Ability: Keen Eye / Skill Link Pikipek can strike 16 times a second with its beak. These strikes are powerful enough to not only drill through hard wood but even shatter stone. The noises made by their blows can signal others. Some of these signals have been identified as warning signals and greetings among allies. Pikipek Trainers have grown to recognize them as well. These Pokémon drill holes in …

Pokemon Sun And Moon – CoroCoro Scans Reveal Nekkoala And Iwanko

Usually, waiting for a video game’s release is a hellish time for die-hard fans looking to get their hands on the latest and greatest titles. For Pokemon fans it is a time to reflect, theorise, and speculate, taking into account the snippets of information they’re delivered systematically from the moment the game is announced to the moment it is released. The latest title that has audiences in grand anticipation is that of Pokemon Sun and Moon; a pair of games that, much like previous titles, will take players on a journey unlike the last, always pushing for us to experience bigger and better things. A few weeks ago the world was introduced to Rowlett, Litten, and Poplio; the starters of the new generation, but they’re not the only Pokemon to be featured in the game, no way! As the months and weeks pass, Game Freak and Nintendo will be introducing us to more and more of the new generation’s long list of new Pocket Monsters with the latest being a narcoleptic koala called Nekkoala, and a …

Who’re Those Pokemon? – Pokemon Sun and Moon Legendaries Detailed

Put your gloves up and get that footwork flowin’ party people because it’s time for round two in the Generation VII Pokemon information deluge. Having already discovered just how much the world can love an owl that is also some kind of plant, we find ourselves venturing further from the Pokemon that help start our adventure, to the ones who herald its final moments. Not, like, in a death way or anything, more in a, “I caught the Legendary so I guess I finished the story,” kind of way. But regardless of where we start our Pokemon journey, or where we end it, it is time to add some new names to your ever expanding mental Pokedex; Solgaleo and Lunala. Solgaleo CATEGORY Sunne Pokémon HEIGHT 11’02” WEIGHT 507.1 lbs. TYPE Psychic/Steel ABILITY Full Metal Body Since ancient times, Solgaleo has been honored as an emissary of the sun. Dawn of a New Era – Pokemon Sun and Moon Starters Revealed

It’s the night of Nintendo Direct, you’re sitting in front of your computer screen, twiddling your thumbs until that fateful moment when the words Sun and Moon splash across your screen. Sure you’ve seen those words before, but not like this. No, this time they have to do with Pokemon, with the franchise you’ve probably been following since before you knew what an anime was. But alas, information is scarce, so you take to the world wide web in hopes of learning more, anything you can get your hands on. You search and you search and just when you think you’ve stumbled upon an all new Pokemon, your hopes are dashed by one simple term; fake. We’ve all been there, all though for even the briefest of seconds that one person’s fan art was true, that it was the window into a whole new world of Pokemon when it was really some random person testing their Ken Sugimori homage style. Quite frankly, it sucks. but fear no longer fellow Trainers, for the day of revelation …

Legendary, Sony, And Warner Bros. In Bidding War Over Pokemon Live-Action Film Rights

You’re a fan of Pokemon, right? Of course! We all are, this much is true. Because of this, we’re not necessarily going to jump at the prospect of there being a live-action adaptations of the 90s video game of the same name. We’re not silly, we’ve seen previous attempts at this kind of the thing, the writing is on the wall, chances are if it were to happen…it wouldn’t be good. Well, according to source Hollywood Reporter, juggernaut studios Legendary Entertainment, Sony, and Warner Bros. have been fighting a secret bidding war for the rights to a live-action Pokemon film adaptation. It has been proven that no company should attempt to develop live-action film adaptations of much-beloved television series’ from our childhoods. Have we not learned from the past? Despite the fact that Pokemon would make an absolutely atrocious live-action film thanks many, many obvious factors, those vying for the rights to it will do absolutely everything in their power to make it because, well…it’s Pokemon! It’s going to make money regardless of the film’s quality, …

A Look Into The Strange World Of Japanese Beetle Fighting

Japan is a country known, above all else, for it’s incredible eccentricity. Most people you talk to about Japan will instinctively refer to it as being quite a bizarre place, focused on the abnormal, with a tendency to do what other cultures would consider unsavoury. This is, fortunately, the view only of those uneducated in the rich culture of this fine land, be it pop or otherwise. In many cases, yes, Japan does indeed fit into the stereotype that many people intuitively designate, but there is much more to the country’s culture than that of cute, illustrated girls. Much, much more! For every Pokemon, Dragon Ball Z, Sailor Moon, and Astro Boy that makes it outside of the great country, only to impact the rest of the world in immeasurable ways, there are countless facets of Japanese (pop) culture that remain only in the country of birth. The worst thing about that is…these are some of their most interesting and charming cultural features, and we don’t often get the chance to experience them, living in Western countries. …

Pokken Tournament – Review

Pokemon Stadium on the Nintendo 64 was an awesome concept back in the day, given that the main games were confined to a tiny 8-bit handheld, having a console game that allowed you to engage in glorious 3D battles was godsend, allowing players to transfer their Pokemon team onto the N64 for some visually dazzling battles that pretty much played out the exact same way as the traditional turn based battles. Still, it was nice to see Pokemon come to life and fully animated. Now this concept probably has lost its appeal in this day and age given that the 3DS has provided gamers with a fully 3D Pokemon adventure in Pokemon X and Y, with the upcoming Pokemon Sun and Mon hopefully raising the bar higher. Still, back in the day we dreamed up a Pokemon game where battles would be a lot more versatile and free flowing than the restrictions of turn-based, something that would be more akin to the way battles were depicted in the Pokemon anime. When it was first announced that …

Pokemon meets Blood Blockade Battlefront in epic fan mash-up video

Fans of Pokemon and fans of Blood Blockade Battlefront at first seem to be a different breed but to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Pokemon franchise, fans of both series have come together to create the ultimate mash-up of the two: a Pokemon version of Blood Blockade Battlefront’s famous ending theme song. The fan made video places many characters from the Pokemon series in place of the Blood Blockade Battlefront characters in the popular Unison Square Garden theme video. The song by Unison Square Garden is of course ‘Sugar Song to Bitter Step’, however in this video we see an 8 bit version of the tune employed to fit in with the style of Pokemon. It’s a great watch whether you’re a fan of Pokemon or not. So kick back, check it out below and enjoy yourself. -30-

The Pokemon Center Japan’s 20th Anniversary Merchandise Is Rocking An Old-School Vibe

Twenty years, huh? Twenty long years filled with nothing but critical success, franchise-expanding opportunities, and financial gain the likes of which you’ve simply never seen before. Pokemon is arguably history’s most breathtaking success story, and twenty years later we’re remembering it as the breakout star of the nineties will reminding ourselves that it’s reign over the pop culture world has not yet come to pass. Pokemon is a juggernaut in the industry, and it will continue that way for many years to come, but it is times like this that allow us the perfect opportunity to reminisce about the “good ol’ days” of the original Pokemon generation: One that featured, in my personal opinion, some of the most likable Pocket Monsters, and paved the way not only for future series games to come, but games of similar type to spread their creative wings and fly. Like any good anniversary celebration, what comes as part of the festivities is new merchandise. Well…more like old merchandise. The Pokemon Center stores across Japan have, starting just a few days …

Pokemon Sun and Moon to do away with EV and IV training?

Good news for the casual trainers and bad news for the hardcore trainers, Pokemon Sun and Moon looks to be heading back to basics and that could very well spell the end of EV and IV training in the series. During an interview with Japanese magazine ‘We Love Pokemon’, Game Freak’s Ken Sugimori spoke about Generation 7 and commented that they plan to revert back to the simpler ways of Pokemon Red, Blue, Green and Yellow, where EV and IV training was but a twinkle in Game Freak’s eye. He commented that the game had become unbalanced with the inclusion of EV and IV training and that there would also be a bit of trimming being done to the number of moves, abilities and items in the game. Furthermore he mentions that while it is at this point impossible to decrease the number of Pokemon, Game Freak’s focus with Sun and Moon is all about going back to basics and making games that can be enjoyed by all. EV and IV training is hard work. …

CONFIRMED: Pokemon Sun And Moon – Could They Be The Names Of The Next Generation?

2016 marks the year of Pokemon’s 20th anniversary, and like any landmark event…it’s to be celebrated in some big ways! Many fans around the web understandably speculate that, to celebrate this momentous occasion, Game Freak will be releasing their most ambitious Pokemon video game to date, and for all intents and purposes…the upcoming pair of celebratory games could be titled Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon. It appears as though Nintendo have filed two trademarks through the European Union’s Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market (OHIM) for the names Pokemon Sun, and Pokemon Moon, both of which happen to feature two very distinct logos that look, to say the very least…overtly Pokemon. Now, considering tomorrow’s Nintendo direct is focused entirely on that of Pokemon, chances are Game Freak and Nintendo are preparing to unleash something amazing on the world. If that were to be the case, something like this is pretty standard; they’re just preparing to rock the world, in a safe way. Some other publications have reported that these two names are confirmed as …

Mythical Machinations – Pokemon #722 Revealed

What, you thought they were done? I laugh sarcastically at thee. Pokemon is a powerhouse, one that has not slowed down for twenty years and one that surely has a bevy of surprises in store for the particular double decade anniversary it is currently enjoying. Following that train of thought, it isn’t that surprising to see that a new face shall join the roster of all our favourite Pokemon friends. This time around, we find ourselves faced with yet another man-made Pocket Monster, a mechanical creature known as Magiana. Already classified as a Mythical Pokemon (or so it will be in the upcoming edition of CoroCoro), this creature will focus heavily in the nineteenth  Pokemon film, now titled; Volcanion and the Ingenious Magiana. The newbie in question is said to have been kidnapped by the villains of the film and Volcanion is on a rescue mission. That’s about it really when it comes to facts, as there is still a fair deal of mystery surrounding this new Pokemon. Based on looks alone, I personally posit that …

Light Up the Fight – Chandelure Showcases It’s Pokken Tournament Credentials

Pokken Tournament is an interesting concept, an interesting, divisive concept that has certainly left a mark on the Pokemon fandom. Of course, it isn’t actually fully released at this point, so take that with a grain of Shoal Salt and prepare to make your own judgements. Shifting focus to the game itself, why don’t we discuss the latest Pocket Monster to grace the tournament floor? That’s right friends, with the platform for Pokemon to fight in those one on one, knock down, drag out brawls we’ve all pictured in our heads since 1996 now lowered, it is time to witness the powerhouses of the franchise bring the pain. With that vivid imagery in mind, who could be a better roster choice than…Chandelure? Okay, sure, why not? Representing Gen V, weighing in at 34.3kg, this sentient, ambient lighting choice brings the ghostly forces to a grand total of two. Though I assume added as a way of escaping a game dominated by pure fighting types, or those with the more traditional combat builds, I am not entirely …

Detective Pikachu is the Private Eye in Demand

No one cares about the next Pokemon game or any of the recent spin-offs right now, as all they want is a title that doesn’t even bear the Pokemon name, but stars a very unlikely variation of the beloved Pikachu: Great Detective Pikachu. It’s clear by now that this is no joke, as an adventure game starring a talking Pikachu with a deep manly voice, and wearing a classic Sherlock Holmes hat, does indeed exist in the Japanese eShop. Not to mention it’s not too expensive a release either. As for the thought process and discussion that lead to the inception of this game, and helped make it all the way as a complete product… I can’t even fathom. As strange as the game is, fans all over the world want it badly. There’s been petitions begging not only for a localisation, but to have none other than Hollywood legend Danny DeVito provide the English voice for Detective Pikachu. He’s done some great voice work in the past, and if this petition works and Nintendo get …

Pokemon Red, Blue and Yellow Headed to eShop, Can You Feel The Nostalgia?

Almost 20 years on from the first time we were introduced to the wonderful world of Pokemon and in many fans hearts you just can’t beat that first time. The original trilogy of Pokemon games have a great deal of nostalgic value for most Pokemon fans. They were the games where it all began and recapturing that feeling has never quite happened since despite the fact that each Pokemon game is generally always good. Well fear not, you can now relive the classics of Pokemon Red, Blue and Yellow without fear of your cartridge’s internal battery having died like mine did. Nintendo have announced they will be releasing the original trilogy on the 3DS eShop with some added wireless connectivity to make up for the lack of link cable on the 3DS. Get excited PokeFans, its time to head back to Kanto. The journey begins again. -30-

From Z to Z – Pokemon Adds Some New Formes to its Numbers

What is it that Pokemon fans love and/or hate the most? What issue is it that divides the fandom into two distinct categories? New Pokemon. That’s right lovers and haters, as this train continues to speed on down the tracks it gathers no small amount of extra passengers But be you a stalwart supporter of numbers 1 through 151, or a catcher of those in the hundred beyond, know this, the Pokemon family has just gotten a little bigger…in some form at least. A few weeks ago, a CoroCoro article was released depicting a mysterious shadow, in no subtle terms hinted at being a new Pokemon (to nobody’s surprise). But what ho, through the mystical art of leaks, said shadow has been revealed in all its glory…along with a few tag alongs. Buried in the post-game of X and Y lies the (not surprising) Z; Zygarde. Serpentine dragon of nature, this powerful being is environmentalism incarnate. But there lies more to this creature than that. To be specific, the potential to transform, to power up …

Imagination And Reality Combine Thanks To Nintendo’s Pokemon GO

Fans of Nintendo’s monster-raising franchise Pokemon have always dreamed of a reality wherein which they could capture and train their very own fighting creatures, living a life revolving solely around travel and adventure. Up until this point in time, barring the actual Pokemon video game releases, we’ve never really gotten close to seeing this dream become a reality, in fact…I personally never thought such an abstract idea could ever become real. Despite this, there’s a company out there who is trying to make it a reality, and that company is, you guessed it, Nintendo. Announced overnight (for us here living in Australia), the upcoming SmartPhone app Pokemon GO combines the forces of ones own imagination with the reality of which we’re all a part of. Nintendo, who has now partnered up with video game developer Niantic, Inc; who you may know is famous for their similar augmented reality video game title Ingress, plan to release this new app, partnered up with a nice wearable peripheral to help with the immersion, sometime next year, but before you get …

Pokemon’s Misty: The Tomboy Mermaid Classic Gym Leader Figure Now Up For Pre-Order

It was a while ago but I feel as though you’d all still remember: Bandai, in conjunction with Game Freak and Nintendo, released a nostalgia-inducing figurine that showed Pokemon’s Brock in his original Gym Leader attire…which was barely anything, mostly just pants. Fans of the franchise went wild! Especially those who grew up playing the very first generation of Pokemon video games. Not long after that, the same companies came together and announced a second figurine from the same collection. This time it was Misty; the second Gym Leader from the first set of Pokemon games. Much like Brock, Misty’s classic attire had a serious lack of actual attire, with her being in a simple bikini set. Now, some time after it was announced, those same trie of companies have once again surfaced to reveal that the Misty figurine is now up for pre-order. Alongside alerting the world of it’s purchasability, they also revealed exactly what the figurine will look like, as I’m sure you can already see by the images I’ve provided in this …

Pokken Tournament Will Be Coming To A Dave & Busters Near You

Australia is a wonderful country, but it’s not a country that features establishments like Dave & Busters wherein which an individual can sit down for a meal, turn around and play some of the latest arcade machines to be released. Places like that simply don’t exist down under, and it burns me up inside! You North Americans consider yourselves lucky, not just because you have access to restaurant/arcade hybrids like Dave & Busters but because the upcoming fighting title Pokken Tournament is set to be tested in the USA through Dave & Busters locations across the country. Kevin Bachus, the Senior Vice President of Entertainment and Game Strategy for Dave & Busters, recently held his very own Reddit AMA wherein which he was questioned about the localisation of this arcade title. Replying with confidence, Bachus detailed the relationship between the restaurant chain and Bandai Namco America saying that they’re more excited about the North American release of Pokken Tournament than they are of the new Tekken. The exact locations of these test machines has yet …

A Brand-New Pokemon Has Finally Been Revealed But Not In The Way You Think

Not too long ago, we here at SnapThirty brought you news of a mysterious new Pokemon teased in some early leaks of the latest CoroCoro magazine issue. This Pokemon, which many people consider to be an evolution of X and Y’s Zygarde, made it’s silhouetted debut in a quick trailer for the third Pokemon XY movie that played right after the Japanese screening of the latest Pokemon movie; Hoopa And The Clash Of Ages. Well, over the weekend, Japanese audiences got a chance to catch the new movie as well as the trailer for the upcoming film, which has yet to be named, but there was something even more interesting about it that goes very much beyond the gargantuan shadow monster shown in the leaked screenshots; a brand-new Pokemon. Serebii, the Pokemon-centric news site, have posted an interesting article regarding this new Pokemon that happens to contain sketches from one movie-goer that made sure to pay close attention to the little monster so that it’s image could be replicated and spread around the world …

Have The CoroCoro Leaks Revealed A Brand-New Pokemon?

You may not have already known this but the world will eventually see the release of a THIRD Pokemon XY film, CoroCoro’s leaked scans from the August issue have today confirmed. The upcoming movie, which has yet to be named, already has itself a trailer which will be shown after the latest film Hoopa And The Clash Of Ages opens across Japanese theatres this coming weekend. The leaked scans show a few simple screenshots of the mysterious film that just so happen to feature what looks to be a new Pokemon, though many people across the internet are speculating that this dark figure shown in the images is instead a new Pokemon form. More specifically; a new form of Zygarde who’s Pokedex entry mentions the ability to draw out a “Secret Power” when absolutely necessary. I was very much hoping for some news regarding a brand-new Pokemon video game at E3 and that was not delivered, so the prospect of a new Pokemon, evolution or otherwise, is very much exciting for someone like me. Until the …

Second Classic Pokemon Gym Leader Figure Announced – Misty: The Tomboy Mermaid

Chances are, if you’re a fan of Japanese pop culture in this day and age…you were a fan of Pokemon as a kid. Almost every single person I know used to play and has continued to play Pokemon ever since they were but a young child, and all of them now are fans of Anime, Manga, Video Games and Japanese pop culture as a whole so I feel as though my statement isn’t too exaggerated. As a generation of people that grew up alongside video game franchises like Pokemon, it sometimes pains us to see that the powers at be are only directing their new merchandise towards the newer, younger fans. Almost every conversation I have with my same-aged friends about Pokemon usually turns into a pitch meeting no-one of importance will ever hear. “They should bring out this“, “They should bring out that“, “How about a remake of Pokemon Yellow“…most conversations go along that line. Not but a week ago, long-time Pokemon artist Ken Sugimori released pictures of his original character sketches for four …

Mysteries Revealed…Somewhat – Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon Trailer Released

Having been first announced not too long ago, the Pokemon Company Youtube channel has provided us with a better look at the upcoming Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon. Following the set-up of those that came before it, this mysterious dungeon crawler will see the player character remarkably transformed from human to Pokemon, before being thrown into a world comprised solely of entrepreneurial Pocket Monsters…not too sure why there aren’t any humans around. That’s one of the mysteries that has never been solved…or a question that’s never been asked. Regardless, this human-to-‘mon transformation will allow players to take the form of one of twenty forms, specifically those of each region’s three starters plus Pikachu and Riolu for good measure. In regards to story, all that is known is that you (the player) shall journey through a plethora of randomly generated dungeons to save the world from danger. Now this is just an estimated guess, but said danger might have something to do with one of the ever expanding list of Legendary Pokemon that populate the franchise. The ones …

A Mystery No More – First Promotional Trailer Released For Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon

There was another Nintendo Direct Presentation over the weekend, and you know what that means don’t you? Yep! More awesome news from an even awesome-er video game company! With the release of Splatoon this weekend, love for Nintendo is at an all-time high, so the latest presentation came at a perfect time. Out of everything shown through the video event, one of the more exciting items on the list was that of the first promotional trailer for the upcoming Pokemon spin-off title Super Mystery Dungeon for the 3DS which was only announced about a week or so ago. Nintendo work fast, baby! The new video only goes for a short minute but that’s fine because it tells us everything we need to know about the new game at this point in time, and what’s that exactly, Frank? Well, the video revealed that every Pokemon will be fightable or recruitable in this new title…yeah…literally every single Pokemon. At the beginning of the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games, much like in the mainstream titles, you’re asked to pick a starter Pokemon …

Ikebukuro, Pokemon Center, J-World Tokyo and Shibuya Travelogue

SnapThirty’s Luke Halliday recorded his journey over a span of two weeks time as he traveled from East to West of Japan. His trip begins in current capital city Tokyo and his final destination is the former capital of Kyoto. This is his Journey to the West… of Japan. Welcome one and all to my Journey to the West (Of Japan), a video series which will cover my travels across Japan from East to West. Having watched the anime series Durarara!! it was a given that I’d want to see how the real world Ikebukuro stacks up to its anime counterpart. To our pleasant surprise Ikebukuro is also home to Pokemon Center Mega Tokyo and a Shonen Jump theme park by the name of J-WORLD TOKYO. We wrapped up the day with a visit to Shibuya to check out the Hachiko statue and the scramble crossing. You can check out the four episodes below covering my trip to Ikebukuro and Shibuya: #9 Ikebukuro, Sunshine City and Idol Hand-Shaking Event #10 Pokemon Center Mega Tokyo #11 J-WORLD TOKYO, Shonen …

Super Smash Bros. For Wii U and 3DS – Mewtwo To Be Released This April

I can guarantee every single time “Super Smash Bros.” is brought up, either around your friends or around strangers that share your love, the eventual release of Mewtwo as a playable character will always be brought up. After months and months of hearing about Mewtwo’s eventual return to the battlefield, it’s through the latest Nintendo Direct Presentation that we finally get some information about it’s release. Kicking off the presentation in a huge way was a video of Mewtwo in all of its “Super Smash Bros.” glory followed up by the official announcement of it’s release date. You wont be waiting very long to play as Mewtwo because, come the 29th of April, it’ll be released for everyone to enjoy with those of you who purchased both the Wii U and 3DS version of the game getting your download codes on the 15th. This piece of information was very vague because it could be taken in a couple of ways: Either you’re given the code on the 15th to be used on the 29th or …

Quick Thoughts on Nintendo Anime Channel

So the other day Frank drugged and dragged me into the game store just to buy Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate in what was a re-enactment of Weekend at Bernie’s. I woke up with a copy of Monster Hunter in my hand and the 3DS already turned on, so I decided to just go ahead and play, and not question why Frank’s purple fedora was resting on my bed. But before I could get into Monster Hunter, my 3DS surprised me with a download it had done without my permission, it was none other than the Nintendo Anime Channel that I learned about at Nintendo Direct not long ago. This app is completely free, and in fact your 3DS will simply insist you own it. The 3DS YouTube app may have been useless, but the Nintendo Anime Channel proves to be otherwise. The Nintendo Anime Channel is a simplified streaming service that allows you to enjoy anime on the go, and the content here is Nintendo’s own home-grown anime product. At this point there are eight …

Guy ‘Catches ‘Em All’ On Pokemon Blue Faster Than Anyone Ever, Gets World Record, Kinda Cheated Though

2 hours and 20 minutes is all it took for speedrunner Shenanigans Smash to catch em all on Pokemon Blue. That’s right all 151 Pokemon captured in just under 2 and a half hours. Its a world record folks. Now just before you think he is the best trainer ever, I must inform you that he did kind of cheat by taking advantage of glitches in the game but I mean how else would you get Mew? Use strength on a truck near the SS Anne? Don’t be ridiculous! Regardless of all that you can check out Shenanigans Smash smash the record for quickest completion in the video below. I still think SnapThirty’s nuzlocke challenge should get a world record for quickest failure of nuzlocke challenge ever but as always the good guys get screwed. -30-

Three Idiots Play: Pokemon Blue

Over fifty Video Games. Six generations. Seven consoles. Eighteen Anime seasons. Seventeen movies. Countless Figurines. Trading Cards. Clothing Items. Stickers. Backpacks. Lunchboxes. “Pokemon” is the juggernaut franchise that will live on for the rest of eternity. It is one of the most legendary video game series’ of all time, but all legends come from humble beginnings and there’s none more humble than the original “Pokemon Red” and “Pokemon Blue”. Despite the huge selection of modern “Pokemon” titles, the boys from SnapThirty have decided that it is the oldest of the games they’d like to, once again, try to complete. Unlike the way they would have played as kids, the boys decided to play through “Pokemon Blue” under the rules of their very own Nuzlocke Challenge. It’s much too bad they suck at playing video games together because at a short hour in their adventure must come to a close, BUT it’s not about the destination…it’s about the journey, and this journey is one that will be told through the ages as the worst Nuzlocke Challenge …

Graphic Designer Gives Pokemon a Corporate Edge

Are you one of the countless Pokemon fans who have been around since the early days? The ones who are now older, but still hold fond memories of the franchise? Or are you like me, who stubbornly refuses to grow up and is still amped whenever a new game comes out? Either way, I have some images that may appeal to you. When asked about his company’s involvement in the new age of the Pocket Monster, Pictogram founder Sebastiaan de With has this to say: “Since the Pokémon Corporate Personhood Act of 2015, as spearheaded by Professor OAK, Pokémon became free to start their own companies, mandating the design of Pokémon brand identities. We were on the forefront of this radical development and designed several visual identities for Pokémon.” For more information regarding the specifics of these companies, visit Pictogram -30-

Pokken Tournament Live Stream Video Released

When was the last time anyone heard anything new about the upcoming “Pokemon” fighting title “Pokken Tournament”? It’s been ages since any new information on the new game has been released but that’s all changed today thanks to the release of a live stream video that not only shows the game in action but also gives the world a glimpse at some of the other characters that will be playable upon release. Pikachu, Suicune and Gardevoir all make an appearance as playable “Pokemon” in the game which just confirms that it wont only be fighting-type “Pokemon” that will be participating in this tournament. Emolga, Fenniken, Snivy and Lapras also appear in the game but not as playable “Pokemon”, instead they will be support “Pokemon” who, like in many other fighting games, can be summoned to the arena for a quick strike or to boost the stats of the user. Though not much more than that was revealed through the live stream it’s still very much worth a watch and, thanks to the Youtube user MaxEzzy who uploaded …

The Legendary Pokemon Hoopa Finally Gets An Official Western Reveal

Now we all know that my fellow writer Luke Halliday absolutely hates Hoopa. What I want you all to know is that I, Frank Inglese, am on the total opposite side of the spectrum: I love Hoopa, and I’m so glad it’s finally getting the official time of day it deserves. For so long now the world has been well-aware of Hoopa thanks to some sneaky citizens of the Earth we call game hackers. Back when Pokemon X and Pokemon Y were released people had already found out who Hoopa was. The legendary has recently been officially revealed over in Japan and now it is time for the West to officially meet Hoopa. The thing is…we know who Hoopa is. We know this Pokemon very well. Heck, we even know it’s “Unbound” form! I’m not going to repeat what everybody already knows. Instead, I’m going to direct you to the official video that the Pokemon Company has just released. Why not get to know Hoopa even more, despite the fact that you already know it pretty …

New Pokemon Movie to Star Legendary Pokemon ‘Hoopa’, The Term ‘Legendary’ Officially Loses All Meaning

What is that? I mean seriously is that some kind of genie or is it just a Haunter in drag? Whatever ‘Hoopa’ is, it is the latest legendary Pokemon to star in its own movie, with the questionably legendary Pokemon set to be featured in the newly announced Pokemon the Movie: The Ring Genie Hoopa. The film will likely follow Ash and his companions as they wander into some forest and stumble upon Hoopa, a Pokemon who initially appears to be an enemy attacking the good guys only to be revealed as a good Pokemon the whole time. This is of course an entirely fresh story to be told in the world of Pokemon, highlighting the fact that the Pokemon anime has totally not run out of steam after 15+ years of telling the exact same story for 856 episodes. Interestingly this is the first official reveal of Hoopa, a reveal which lacks all surprise considering Hoopa was leaked by hackers back in 2013 with Pokemon X and Y. So yeah, Hoopa is a thing. -30-

Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire Review

It has been 12 years since Pokemon fans first got to journey throughout the world of Hoenn, but now players get to experience the same journey in a different way. Ruby and Sapphire have been reimagined into the same style as Pokemon X and Y and it has brought Ruby and Sapphire back to their once glorious selves. Pokemon fans who loved Pokemon X and Y are going to love Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. Whether you have ventured in Hoenn before or you’re a new traveler, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire proves to be an exciting experience for all. Just like the originals you wake up in a moving van as you move into your new home in Littleroot town. This time however things are a little different, for starters the intro sequence was filled with references and nods to the original games, a little love letter to the fans. The premise is about as ‘classic Pokemon’ as it gets: you’re a kid who wants to be a Pokemon trainer and then you do …

A Shiny Pokemon Appears! What Happens Next Will Shock You

Not everyone can be an elite ace Pokemon trainer like me. Such was the harsh reality that one youtuber by the name of Ohnickel learned the hard way when he was confronted by a wild Ralts. Now this wasn’t any normal Ralts, this was a super rare shiny Ralts! During Ohnickel’s attempt to capture this Lvl 14 Ralts things go in a rather shocking direction. But hey, not everyone can be the ace trainer assigned with the mission of completing the pokedex to its fullest completion by the honourable Prof Birch – not all trainers are me. Check out the shocking turn of events below. Do you think that Ohnickel is a bit of a goof or that this Ralts was just too damn good? Let us know in the comments section. -30-

Pokemon the Movie XY 2015 Promises a Clash of the Primals and…Hoopa?

Welcome once again to the theatrical world of Pokemon and prepare to bear witness to yet another Legendary conflict. It’s no secret that Groudon and Kyogre have had their differences throughout the eons, having even accidentally created the world’s layout during their battles. Luckily for everyone else however, Rayquaza tends to turn up and put a lid on things. Well the Weather Trio is back once more and sporting their Primal and Mega forms in the teaser for the upcoming movie, still tentatively titled XY 2015. However, these primordial forces may find themselves facing yet another Legendary opponent this time around. Though pure speculation at this point, one might wonder if those portals are being created by someone. I guess you could call them hoops if you wanted to… Hoopa. I’m talking about Hoopa. One of the three secret Legendaries added in XY, that of course failed to remain secret for any period of time. Regardless, from those who understand how to enter the code of the Pokemon universe, it has been revealed that Hoopa …

Fan Begins Making “Pokemon” Game Specifically For Use With The Oculus Rift

This truly is the future, people. While not an official Nintendo production, that doesn’t make this little video any less exciting for “Pokemon” fans the world over. Youtuber and amateur video game maker misterbunbun has recently uploaded a new video onto his Youtube page which just so happens to showcase a little project of his that revolves around the creation of a “Pokemon” game that can be used with the Oculus Rift. This game, while not anywhere near close to completion, shows misterbunbun himself playing the game and using a Pikachu to battle and capture a Magnemite. Now  Nintendo doesn’t exactly like it when people do stuff like this so I’d take the chance to watch it as soon as possible before it may be taken down. I don’t know why you’d put it off though, it’s such an awesome concept and for something not officially developed by Nintendo themselves it is looking damn awesome. Pokemon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire Offer Shiny Beldum

Do you like shiny Pokemon but have terrible luck? Then has the Pokemon Company got a Mystery Gift for you. Running from November 21st-January 14th, players of Omega Ruby and/or Alpha Sapphire will be able to pick up a Shiny Beldum for their team. Yeah, a shiny pseudo-Legendary, pretty cool right? The Pokemon also has somewhat of an in-universe back story, with its Original Trainer being listed as Steven. As in Steven Stone of the Devon Corporation Stones. How prestigious. Beldum comes ready to battle with a complete set of moves, being Hold Back, Iron Head, Zen Headbutt and Iron Defence. Which is a vast improvement over its appearance in the original Ruby and Sapphire, where Beldum could only learn Take Down. Additionally, and perhaps most importantly, is holding a special item: Metagrossite. So all you have to do is train the chrome arm/leg guy until level 45, whereupon you will net yourself a sweet new Mega Evolution. So what’re you waiting for? Go pickup your Beldum and enjoy. I did. -30-

Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire Feature One Of The Greatest Video Game Openings Of All Time

Now every gamer, apart from those living in Europe, SHOULD have their hands on the new “Pokemon” video game remakes “Omega Ruby” and “Alpha Sapphire”. The game will be hitting local shelves around Europe within the next couple of days. “ORAS”, as the duo have been abbreviated as, has been one of the most anticipated video game duos of the year and it has arrived without a hitch, delighting new and old fans of the series the world over…once again, apart from Europe. For Now. The games feature a whole line of upgrades both as remakes and as the two latest games in the “Pokemon” franchise to be released. With all these upgrades comes a sense of nostalgia as you look back on what the original games were and how far the series has come. From a high quality Professor Birch being chased by a Poochyena to the updated designs of both Archie and Maxie, everything about this game seems to be bringing smiles to “Pokemon” fans’ faces across the globe but, for me, nothing …

Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire – Deoxys Returns Alongside Something Called The “Delta Episode”

Be honest, reader, have you ever wanted to jump onto the back of a Rayquaza and shoot of into space like an astronaut hitching a ride onto the outside of a speeding rocket ship? Oh, you have?! Well damn, it looks like today is your lucky day! The Pokemon Company, over night, released a brand-new trailer for the upcoming Game Freak remakes “Pokemon Omega Ruby” and “Pokemon Alpha Sapphire” that re-introduces audiences to the mighty galactic force known only as Deoxys. Actually, to be honest, it may be known by more names than that but I know it as Deoxys so that’s what I’m going to be calling it. The new trailer confirms that the intergalactic psychic-user will make a return, just in case you didn’t already assume it would, but it also introduces audiences to something brand-new, something called “Delta Episode”. This new storyline will have players fight for not only the safety of the world but for the safety of the Hoenn region but for the safety of the entire world. Pokémon Omega …

Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire – Japanese Overview Trailer Released

Oh, reader! Do you know how close we our to getting our hands on the ‘Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire’?! So close! In fact, it comes out in little under a month from now! Are you as excited as I am?! Today the Pokemon Company updated their Youtube channel to include a new trailer for the upcoming video game remakes that basically goes over everything we’ve seen up until this point with a few added extras to whet our appetites. Despite how this trailer is entirely in Japanese with no subtitles whatsoever, it’s not that hard to pick up what the narrator is laying down, especially for those of you out there who are true Poke-fans. Opening up the video is a look back in time to the first release of Ruby and Sapphire. A single manly tear rolled down my cheek as I was shown the Gameboy Advanced and the original games. It was a simpler, enjoyable time but it was a time where graphics were not as good as they are now, …

Junji Ito Takes On The Pokemon World For Halloween

Pokemon is a franchise marketed at young boys and girls but enjoyed by an older crowd. Most aspects of Pokemon come off as sett and innocent but a little extra reading will inform you on the dark layer of information that sits just below the soft, fluffy surface. For years the older fans of the franchise have looked into things like a Pokemon’s Pokedex entry only to concoct some sort of disturbing and mind-boggling piece of lore. Some of these Poke-theorists, as I’ll call them, seem a little ‘out there’ but others, well…they make a compelling argument. The most horrific Pokemon seem to be, without a doubt, that of the Ghost and Psychic-types. Each of them carries a mask that used to be its face when it was human. Sometimes they look at it and cry. – Yamask (Pokemon Black) Halloween is generally the spookiest time of the year for most people. For me, it’s Christmas. Spending all that time with your family…ugh, shivers just shot down my spine. Big companies and franchises like to …

Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire – Mega Latios, Latias, Steelix and Glalie Revealed

Whew. That’s a whole bunch of Mega faces to add to the list. Unfortunately for the sake of surprise, certain individuals had already revealed the existence of the Mega Eon Duo back in X and Y (Via some code hacking that I shan’t attempt to understand. Regardless, it’s now official and the Dragon/Psychic Legendaries are looking faster than ever. Half dragon, half bird, half fighter jet. Awesome. Interestingly, the duo loses their distinctive colouration and both shift to a purple hue. Just one of the many possibilities of Mega Evolution I guess. Speaking of Mega reveals, some astute players of the Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire demo have stumbled upon some new members of this ever expanding club. Within the Japanese demo, it was found that the Iron Snake Steelix possesses more power than previously believed, rockin’ a pretty intense new form (complete with diamonds and a support ring of metal). Not to be outdone, players of the Korean demo also happened upon Mega Glalie, who looks a bit more confident in showing off those pearly whites. …

Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire – Mega Beedrill and Pidgeot Revealed

Two more generation one Pokemon have been revealed to be able to Mega evolve in the latest issue of Japan’s much-loved gaming magazine ‘CoroCoro’, neither of which us here at SnapThirty saw coming. Representing Viridian Forest of the Kanto region, the two latest Mega evolutions are none other than Beedrill and Pidgeot. Revealed alongside them is the Mega Evolutions of Latios and Latias but any true Pokemon fan would have already known about them seeing as they were leaked many months ago back when Pokemon X and Y was first released. Though that doesn’t make it any less exciting. After Mega Evolving, Pidgeot gains the ability ‘No Guard’, an ability that acts exactly how it sounds; it makes it so enemies can always be hit, even during invulnerability periods like when a Pokemon uses Fly. Beedrill, also retaining its type combination of Bug and Poison, gains the ability Adaptability which changes STAB moves from a 1.5x buff to a 2x buff. Not much has been revealed about Mega Latios and Latias apart from that you …

Pokemon: Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire – Mega Rayquaza Confirmed

Let’s be honest, reader: Mega Rayquaza being a ‘thing’ comes as no surprise, seeing as Primal Groudon and Primal Kyogre have already been confirmed…it doesn’t make it any less exciting though! Yosha! Here it is, finally confirmed, it’s Mega Rayquaza! Fellow SnapThirty writer and friend Beau was right when he speculated about this particular evolution in a previous article and now he can brag about it until the cows come home. This new evolution was confirmed through a huge Nintendo livestream focusing entirely on the upcoming Pokemon video game remakes ‘Omega Ruby’ and ‘Alpha Sapphire’. For the most part, the stream just featured gameplay footage of the things we’ve already seen about the game…but then came Mega Rayquaza. This bad boy (or girl), once Mega Evolved, gains the brand-new ability Delta Stream which brings about a weather effect that cancels out all other weather effects and makes it so flying types are no longer prone to the moves that they’d usually be weak against. That’s not all though, not by a long shot; Mega Rayquaza …

Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire – Mega Gallade, Sharpedo and Camerupt Revealed

Here we have it: Another batch of Mega Evolution reveals straight from the wonderful land of Japan! The scans from this month’s ‘CoroCoro’ magazine have been leaked online and they reveal the Mega Evolution forms of Gallade, Sharpedo and Camerupt. Alongside the Evolutions, ‘CoroCoro’ also released some more information regarding the ‘Primal’ forms of both Groudon and Kyogre. Mega Sharpedo, once evolved, gets a huge overall stat boost and gains the ability ‘Strong Jaw’ which boosts the power of biting moves by 50%. Mega Camerupt becomes slower once it has evolved but gets a significant boost in all other aspects. It also gains the ability ‘Sheer Force’ which “removes additional effects to increase move damage”, as it is described in-game. Mega Gallade has yet to receive any specific details on how it has changed statistically. Primal Groudon and Kyogre will also gain new abilities once they have Mega Evolved: Kyogre will get the ‘Sea Of Beginnings’ ability which will activate an environmental effect called ‘Strong Rain’. Groudon will get the ‘Land Of Endings’ ability which, …

Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sappphire – Japanese Overview Trailer Released

The name pretty much says it all, people. Nintendo have, just today, released a brand-new trailer for the upcoming ‘Pokemon’ video game remakes that basically take audiences through everything we’ve seen of the game so far but in a little more detail, showing off the smaller elements of the game and doing a good job at getting me hyped the heck up! Though I’m sure you’re all feeling it too, I can’t be the only one who’s blood is red hot with excitement! It’s entirely in Japanese so, for the most part, you wont really understand what is being said but any true ‘Pokemon’ fan will know exactly what it is they’re looking at and what is being explained…sorry, non-Pokemon fans but if you’re not interested in the game then why are you reading this article? We’re now only two months away from the official worldwide release of the game on the 21st of November (28th in Europe…sorry, Euro gamers) and anticipation could not be higher! Let the trumpets sound as we fly back in …

Yammering About Yokai – The Tengu And Its Pop Culture Influences

In my opinion, there’s nothing more influential to Japanese Pop Culture than that of the country’s rich, folkloric past. While Western productions seem to have a tight grasp on more European myths and legends, Anime, Manga and Japanese-made video games are obviously more in tune with their own mythological history. When thinking back on mythology, a great deal of focus tends to lie in that of the Greeks and the Egyptians but I believe the most interesting folkloric people to be the Japanese. It is here I say “goodbye” to video games like ‘God Of War’, movies like ‘The Mummy’ and TV shows like ‘The Walking Dead’ to instead focus my time on the most influential and interesting mythos world history has to offer. Yokai are supernatural apparitions or creatures and usually the focus of stories passed down through history. They appear in many different forms and usually come with their very own specific supernatural powers of which the people within those stories are deathly afraid of. One of the more powerful Yokai, a being …

“Pokken Tournament” Said To Feature More Than Just Fighting-Types

The latest ‘Pokemon’ spinoff video game title was just announced by The Pokemon Company and it is called ‘Pokken Tournament’. The arcade-only fighting game has only received one trailer as of right now and it is looking damn fine! The announcement trailer featured two Pokemon; Lucario and Machamp who went head-to-head just to show us how damn cool a Pokemon fighting game could be. The internet exploded with excitement at the premise of such a video game but with that excitement also came disappointment, disappointment at the fact that, as of right now, this game has only been announced for Japanese arcades BUT the general audience are keeping up hope that it will eventually make it around the world in the form of a console game. A while back a low quality image began circulating the web, this image featured what looked to be a screenshot of a video game that had a Lucario facing off against a Blaziken, people are now considering this to be the very first image of what has now bee …

New Pokemon Video Game ‘Pokken Tournament’ Announced

BOOM! Here it is! The Pokemon Company promised us all something ‘shocking’ and that particular something happens to be a Pokemon-centric fighting game that goes by the name ‘Pokken Tournament’. In case you haven’t already guessed from the new game’s name, ‘Pokken Tournament’ is an odd but wonderful video game project that mashes together the world of ‘Pokemon’ with the fighting mechanics of the long-running fighting game series ‘Tekken’ for what will be one hell of an arcade title. Alongside the announcement of the game comes a nice trailer that shows off two of it’s fighters; Lucario and Machamp. Unfortunately for the four-armed brawler, Lucario is a favorite among the fans and seems to be doing a lot more ‘ass kicking’ than his opponent. ‘Pokken Tournament’ will be spearheaded by both The Pokemon Company and Bandai Namco Games, it is set to be released throughout video game arcades in Japan sometime next year and the general hope of Western fans is that it gets some sort of console release and makes it to local shores …

Mega Slowbro Confirmed For ‘Omega Ruby’ and ‘Alpha Sapphire’ Through Official Video

This makes two! If you’ve been following recent ‘Pokemon’ news you’d probably be aware that two new Mega Evolutions set to feature in the upcoming video game remakes ‘Omega Ruby’ and ‘Alpha Sapphire’ were leaked by the official Korean website for the two new games. The site accidentally updated their pages to include images and information of both Mega Audino and Mega Slowbro. The internet exploded but up until just two days ago, at this point in time, the new Evolutions hadn’t been confirmed. Well, Nintendo released a video officially confirming Mega Audino only about a day ago but today they have released another video that has officially confirmed the inclusion of Mega Slowbro in the new games. Much like the Mega Audino trailer, the Mega Slowbro trailer shows off it’s new look as well as it’s newly acquired defense boost. Mega Slowbro gains the ability ‘Shell Armour’ when it Mega Evolves which makes it so the Pokemon CANNOT receive a critical hit. It also, as mentioned, gets a massive defense boost that makes it …

Mega Audino Confirmed For ‘Omega Ruby’ and ‘Alpha Sapphire’ Through Official Video

Here it is! Mega Audino! It was only a couple days ago that something magical happened, something that all ‘Pokemon’ fans pray for while in anticipation of a new video game, something a news writer like myself jumped on almost instantly! That something is…an accidental leak. YES! The official Korean site for the upcoming ‘Pokemon’ video game remakes ‘Omega Ruby’ and ‘Alpha Sapphire’ messed up the other day by releasing official art, information and screenshots of two new Mega Evolutions; Mega Audino and Mega Slowbro. Well Nintendo have now released an official announcement video for one of the two Mega Evolutions (Mega Audino) that has confirmed it’s legitimacy. As previously reported; Mega Audino becomes a combination Normal/Fairy-type when it Mega Evolves and gains the ‘Healer’ ability which, when in Double or Triple Battles, gives the adjacent Pokemon a 30% chance of having it’s status ailments healed. It’s a dynamo when it comes to multi-battles it seems. ‘Omega Ruby’ and ‘Alpha Sapphire’ for the Nintendo 3DS are set for a release in Japan, North America and …

Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire – Korean Site Accidentally Reveals Mega Slowbro/Mega Audino

Oh, man! There’s nothing sweeter than an information leak from an upcoming game, especially when that game happens to be the ‘Pokemon’ remake duo ‘Omega Ruby’ and ‘Alpha Sapphire’! The funny thing about situations like this is that they actually come about quite often but even when they do, fans still find it hard to fully trust the information they have been handed. Word around the web is that the official Korean site for the upcoming ‘Pokemon’ video games ‘accidentally’ released two images alongside some information regarding a pair of Mega Evolutions that will feature, alongside many others, in the upcoming remakes. Slowpoke and Audino, a pair of Pokemon I would have never thought be paired up, have entered the spotlight thanks to their new Mega Evolutions. Slowbro, who apparently is now more shell than…whatever it was before, gains the ability ‘Shell Armour’ when it evolves which makes it so the Pokemon CANNOT receive a critical hit. Fantastic for when you’re in a pinch! Audino, through it’s Mega Evolution, becomes a combination Normal/Fairy-type and gains …

Mega Salamence, Altaria and Lopunny Revealed For Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire

Just when you start craving more, Nintendo delivers you exactly what it is you want! That’s why they’re royalty in the video game industry. The latest issue of Japan’s ‘CoroCoro’ magazine, as usually, has revealed much about the upcoming remakes including three more ‘Pokemon’ who have landed themselves a ‘Mega Evolution. Salamence, Altaria and Lopunny are the latest ‘pocket monsters’ to transcend the typical three tier transformation system and into infinity! With their new transformations come new looks and new abilities: Mega Salamence gains the ‘Aerilate’ ability which turns all ‘Normal-type’ moves into ‘Flying-type’ moves and gives the power a 30% boost. This ability was originally only available to Mega Pinsir. Mega Altaria, the now brutal Dragon/Fairy-type combination, gains the ability ‘Pixilate’ which is an ability similar to ‘Aerilate’ but instead of changing ‘Normal-type’ movies into ‘Flying-type’ moves, it turns them into ‘Fairy-type’ moves. Mega Lopunny, who becomes a ‘Normal/Fighting-type’ combination, gains the ability ‘Scrappy’ which allows ‘Normal-type’ and ‘Fighting-type’ moves to land when going up against ‘Ghost-types’. A perfect ability for Mega Lopunny who …

Heracross And Pinsir Are The Stars Of The Latest “Pokemon X and Y” Distribution Event

Nintendo have come out over the weekend and released a bunch of information regarding their very next ‘Pokemon’ Wi-Fi distribution plan which just so happens to revolve around both Heracross and Pinsir, two bug-type ‘Pokemon’ each with their very own Mega Evolutions. This distribution event, as of right now, is just for North American players of ‘Pokemon X and Y’ for the Nintendo 3DS. Those of you who happen to have ‘Pokemon X’ will be given a Heracross whereas those of you with ‘Pokemon Y’ will be getting a Pinsir. Each of which will come battle-ready with all four attack slots filled and a nature that suits the ‘Pokemon’ itself. This event will run from the 13th of August all the way up until the 17th of September and will coincide with a special Mega Stone distribution event which will be run by Gamestop stores around the country. Stop in at any Gamestop between the 18th of August and the 31st of August to receive a special code that, once put into the game, will …

Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire Trailer Shows Gym Leaders, Pika-Cosplay and New Mega

Is everyone still excited for Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire? I know I am. Should you be amongst those who have let news of the Hoenn remakes drift into the periphery of your thoughts, Nintendo has released yet another trailer showcasing snippets of the upcoming remakes. I’ll start with the big news: Pikachu Cosplay. I mean, if there’s one thing that has been sorely lacking from Pokemon, it’s costumes right? Though screenshots express said costumed mouse in the Pokemon Amie function, there has been no specifics given as to the limitations of these outfits. Due to Hoenn being the region that first brought us Pokemon Contests, along with a seemingly related sentence in the trailer, it wouldn’t be that far of a stretch to imagine cosplay will be ramped up a notch in these games. We also do not know if it is only specific Pokemon who will have the ability to dress up, or if there are any other costumes. After all, each screenshot released thus far specifically features a female Pikachu, one would …

Making Up For Lost Time – Frank Plays The “Pokemon Trading Card Game” (3DS)

Reader, I don’t know about you but my friends and I used to be Pokemon card masters. We never actually played the proper game but we did buy at least one booster pack a week. A game we used to call ‘flips’ spread across the playground like a plague. It was a simple game where two combatants would go head-to-head, with each of the players would play with one of their own cards. The aim of the game was to flip both cards and have them land the same way up. This would result in you taking both the cards. It was our form of gambling back then. We used to bet our best cards and the winner would always walk away with a pocket full of another child’s precious Pokemon. I remember the bigger kids in my life actually playing the TCG (Trading Card Game) and, from the view of a small child, they were Gods among men. Never once did I try to learn how to play this game, I just stuck …

Pokemon Trading Card Game Now Available On The European Nintendo eShop

Time to dust off my Nintendo 3DS and get back into the swing of handheld gaming because Nintendo has today re-released the old-school ‘Pokemon Trading Card Game’ as Virtual Console classic. This new/old title has just been made available through the European eShop. It was first released in the West back in 2000, a time where I was too young to understand real strategy and instead chose to buy booster packs of Pokemon cards simply because they looked cool. I never had the intention of playing the actual TCG (Trading Card Game) which meant that this particular game went right over my head. What I simply child I was. With the re-release going for a measly $6.50, it was hard for me to pass up the chance to make up for lost time. The game does actually have any contemporary editions, it is essentially just a port and I think that’s perfectly fine. It has an 8mb download size and will take you no more than ten seconds to download so there’s no real reason …

Mega Metagross Reveiled For Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire

Let me be honest; we all knew this was coming, what we didn’t know was when it’d be coming. New scans, courtesy of the Japanese ‘CoroCoro’ magazine, have today revealed the next Pokemon to obtain itself a ‘Mega Evolution’ and that Pokemon is none other than the mighty Metagross! A whopping tank-like creature, Metagross is an intelligent Pokemon that knows how to use it’s brute strength to pin down it’s prey and devour them with it’s jaws of steel of which are located almost underneath it’s body. With a nice type combination of ‘Steel’ and ‘Psychic’, Metagross is a force to be reckoned with and now it has unlocked the power to evolve once more making it a force of nature no other Pokemon can stand against. Though laced with glare, these scans allow us to clearly see just what a behemoth this already-devastating Pokemon has become. Though no real info about the evolution itself was divulged, we do know that it belongs to Steven Stone and that his particular ‘Mega Stone’ is located on …

Secret Bases Make A Return In Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire

You know, reader, sometimes when I get into a fight with someone I love I just want to run away but that’s hard when living in the Pokemon world because at any moment you can be attacked by some sort of fire chicken or mariachi monster. That’s why every single Pokemon trainer must have their own secret base, a place where they can go when they can’t stay at home, a place where you can escape all your worries, a place where you can be in your own company and a place where you can store your plush toy collection without anyone giving you crap about it…I just like the way they feel, OK?! After months of speculation, it was finally revealed that the ‘Secret Base’ feature from the original generation three games will make a huge return in the ‘Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire’ video game remakes. Alongside the reveal of this returning features comes a bunch of great-looking screenshots that both show off the feature in all it’s new graphics glory …

Pokemon Tackles the Classics on Orchestral Tour

No you didn’t hear wrong Pokefans, the beloved franchise has recently revealed that a musical tour is just around the corner, entitled Pokemon: Symphonic Evolution. Fancy. Now you may ask yourself “How are they going to produce such an event using the tunes I’ve heard for oh so many years?” Well my friend the answer is simple: Orchestra. Bringing together the same key producers who handled the similarly themed Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses tour, along with a number of talented musicians, the performance promises to recreate classic sounds from a number of Pokemon titles. Including, but not limited to: Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver, Crystal, Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, Black, White, X and Y. Being that said list comprises of all main stream titles, mayhaps the tunes of a spin-off may enter the repetoire. The orchestral tour is set to premiere at the Warner Theater in Washington DC on August 15th, just a touch before the 2014 Pokémon World Championships. It’s a veritable Pokefrenzy. The tour will also head to the Mann …
