The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel II – Review (Vita)

At the start of 2016 we got The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel on the PlayStation 3 and Vita, a much welcome release in Europe and Australia, particular for the Vita that has all but faded from our store shelves. As long as strong releases like The Legend of Heroes exist, the Vita (and even the PlayStation 3) will continue to stick around. The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel was a title jam packed with content, an RPG with as much gameplay variety and density as something like The Elders Scrolls V: Skyrim, no exaggeration there. A huge cast of characters to interact with and take control of, a ton of compelling gameplay features to fine-tune your character in a way that is meaningful and not superficial, and above all a rich setting backed by a well-developed lore that fuels a plot and story which is as much about politics as it is about character development. If you haven’t done so already, do check out our full review of The Legend of …

Welcome to Erion

Odin Sphere Leifthrasir has landed in Australia on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, and PlayStation 3, and despite it being a remaster of a game that was released 9 years ago on the PS2, Odin Sphere Leifthrasir is every bit a landmark release in 2016 just as the original Odin Sphere was back in 2007. Odin Sphere Leifthrasir comes from Vanillaware, a studio that really made waves in 2007 when they released the 2D action RPG Odin Sphere and the 2D real time strategy game GrimGrimoire (not many people remember it but it was pretty neat). Later they would create the blistering fast 2D action game Muramasa: The Demon Blade for the Wii, followed by the Dungeons and Dragons inspired brawler Dragon’s Crown on the PS3 and Vita. In between those games there was a promising PSP RPG called Grand Knights History which unfortunately barely missed an English localisation. Odin Sphere Leifthrasir is their latest and is far from just an ordinary remaster of a PS2 game because it goes above and beyond in so many ways. What does the …

Odin Sphere Leifthrasir – Review (PS3)

Odin Sphere Leifthrasir is the latest by Vanillaware for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Vita. The title is billed as a remaster of the original Odin Sphere which was released for the PlayStation 2 back in 2007 (2008 in PAL territories). To call Odin Sphere Leifthrasir a mere HD remaster of a nearly 9 year old game  is putting it very, very loosely, and it is in fact is a huge disservice to what the game really is. Odin Sphere Leifthrasir is more than just a HD update to suit modern TV resolutions, more than just being the very best version of Odin Sphere (dare I say, perfection), and is more than just an expanded and enhanced re-release. Odin Sphere Leifthrasir is truly a whole new game altogether. In fact, I feel they could have gotten away with calling it Odin Sphere 2 and no one would have argued otherwise. Whether you’re a fan of the original or a sceptical newcomer who is tired of seeing sloppy HD remasters, Odin Sphere Leifthrasir proves to be a truly a one of a kind experience that even …

We are Strangers of Sword City

Hello there, Stranger! Welcome to Sword City! Here at Snap Thirty we left no stone unturned in our coverage for Stranger of Sword City, the latest in the line of dungeon role playing shenanigans. This game is exactly what we’ve come to expect from the genre: pretty pictures and brutal enemies to battle. First and foremost, you definitely want to read our full review of the PlayStation Vita version. The Vita version was released digitally in AUS/NZ thanks to BandaiNamco. Next up, did you know that this game is also on the Xbox One but not on the PlayStation 4!? Stranger things have happened in the video game business. But it gets crazier… this game was on the Xbox 360 first! You can learn more about Xbox’s steamy relationship with Stranger of Sword City in our special piece covering the Xbox One version. Do you want to try your luck at winning a copy of this Vita RPG for yourself? Then check out our awesome giveaway! Last but not least… chime in on the Stranger of Sword City thread over at the …

Import Duty – Stranger of Sword City (Xbox One)

Stranger of Sword City is a first person dungeon crawler JRPG in similar vein to the countless other old school JRPGs that have really started to make their way out of their native country of Japan. Handheld platforms, the 3DS and Vita, have a growing library of these titles. Stranger of Sword City has made its way to Australia and all over the world as a Vita release, and for all intents and purposes most would feel like it was hand-crafted specifically as a another addition to Vita’s dungeon crawling RPG line-up. But as it turns out, Stranger of Sword City didn’t quite start out as a Vita game, let alone a game for a Japanese system, it in fact began as an Xbox 360 game of all things. Stranger of Sword City was released in limited quantities for the Xbox 360 in Japan only, which would shock most people considering Microsoft systems are commercial failures in the Land of the Rising Sun. The artwork and packaging was a thing of beauty, and I was …

Stranger of Sword City – Review (Vita)

Say what you want about the Vita’s presence (or lack thereof) in the current video game market but there is no denying that it is a treasure trove of unique games that you really won’t find anywhere else. When it all comes down to it, the Vita specialises in three genres: Visual Novels, Rhythm Games, and Japanese RPGS. If you’re into any or all of these genres, then the Vita was simply made for you. While there is usually very little in the way of physical releases, the Vita has simply embraced digital distribution for the better as many titles that would have been impossible to release and distribute physically can now easily make their way to the PlayStation store with minimum costs and fuss. Everyone wins really, small publishers can get games on the digital store without having to worry about retailers, and gamers get easy access to a larger library games they wouldn’t see on store shelves. When it comes to niche Japanese games in the aforementioned genres, digital distribution on the Vita is …

Hands-On With Grand Kingdom – PlayStation 4 Closed Beta

Something I have always admired about the Japanese Video Game industry is it’s potential for change. Unlike that of the Western market, Japanese developers will take extreme risks with their video games in an attempt to revolutionise not only specific ways a genre can be handled, but the industry as a whole. These risks are ones that Western developers simply cannot take without first deeply contemplating the almost infinite number of outcomes, most of which negative. This is one of the few reasons behind the world’s odd view of Japan. The country, and it’s media, seems overtly strange, and I believe it is because of this creative freedom. There are no limitations on what they can develop, which mostly results in odd dating simulators that involve creatures NOT human, but from time to time a video game comes along that works as a catalyst for great change. Grand Kingdom is a Japanese alternative Role-Playing Game developed by the wondrous Spike Chunsoft that takes the highly popular genre and reconstructs it in ways I don’t believe I’ve …

The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel – Review (Vita)

The Legend of Heroes franchise (known in its earlier years as simply Dragon Slayer) has been around for a long time but not widely known in the Western world. It wasn’t until the localisation of The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky on the PSP that the series generated a real English-speaking fanbase. The latest in the franchise is The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel on the PS3 and Vita, which has  cross-save support in case you were planning on playing both versions. Honestly, given the tremendous size of the adventure it’s probably not a bad idea to have one copy on the telly and one copy on the go. Trails of Cold Steel is a dense RPG adventure epic that is jam packed with a ton of content. Hours simply burn when you play Cold Steel, it takes place in a rich setting, has a ton of characters, and there’s no shortage of activities outside of the combat. Modern RPGs tend to be all flash and all substance, and while Trails …

Rodea the Sky Soldier: We Reviewed it Thrice!

It started out as a review for the Wii U version of Rodea the Sky Soldier which, for all intents and purposes, is the primary edition of the game. But it ended up becoming a triple feature where all three versions of Rodea got their own review: Wii U, 3DS, and even the limited Wii release. The reason? They’re all very different games. All three versions may share the same story, levels, and bosses, but in terms of gameplay, mechanics, and design they are substantially different from each other, especially the Wii version. It’s also important to do this because Rodea the Sky Soldier is the biggest release by industry legend, Yuji Naka, in a very, very long time. Shigeru Miyamoto may have achieved more fame and commercial success, but during the great console war of the Nineties between SEGA and Nintendo it wasn’t just about SEGA vs. Nintendo, Mega Drive vs. SNES, Saturn vs. Nintendo 64, and Sonic vs. Mario… it was also about Naka vs. Miyamato: two creative geniuses attempting to outdo each other with innovative and fun video …

Rodea the Sky Soldier – Review (Wii)

Rodea the Sky Soldier was first announced as a Wii title many years ago, and after a slow development process and going through some publishers, it was effectively cancelled until Kadokawa Games, and later NIS America, jumped in to revive the project. In doing so, efforts were made to build an almost completely different the game for the Wii U and 3DS. Fortunately, however, the original incarnation of the game on the Wii received its final finishing touches, and was bundled with the first print copies of the Wii U release as a free bonus disc. So as it stands now, if you want to play the Wii version you need to grab a copy of the Wii U version while the first print stock lasts. As an additional, and very cool extra, you also get a reversible cover art with the Wii U art on one side and the Wii art on the other. The limited availability of the Wii version is a crying shame really, because out of all the releases the Wii version …

Rodea the Sky Soldier – Review (3DS)

It’s almost become customary to have a Wii U and 3DS edition of the same title launch simultaneously, with not only obvious cosmetic differences, but even differences in the controls and the way in which gameplay systems are implemented. We’ve seen this happen to Sonic entries on Nintendo platforms, with games like Sonic Lost World and more recently Sonic Boom. Capcom pulled this off with class when they launched Monster Hunter 3: Ultimate simultaneously on the Wii U and 3DS, with both versions being equally stellar. Rodea the Sky Soldier too joins this trend, as accompanying the main Wii U version is this 3DS version that shares most, if not all, of the gameplay systems and mechanics, albeit a few differences to make the experience more functional on the handheld. For all intents and purposes, Rodea the Sky Soldier on 3DS is the exact same game as the Wii U version, with all flaws and issues intact. That being said, Rodea on the 3DS does not feel like a watered down de-make of the Wii U game, …

Rodea the Sky Soldier – Review (Wii U)

Rodea the Sky Soldier on the Wii U is an unfortunate case of too little too late. For one thing, this was originally intended as a Wii game which then switched to the Wii U and not as a port either, but instead it was completely reworked in terms of gameplay systems and mechanics. Within the first moments into the Wii U release, you can’t help but admit that it looks like something that should have been released 4 years ago. Still, better late than never as the old saying goes, and the release of Rodea the Sky Soldier is most certainly welcome in Wii U’s ever expanding library of unique exclusives. That being said, Rodea the Sky Soldier is a very, very flawed release. It has moments of brilliance for sure, but for every moment of bliss there are at least five moments of irritating frustration to dampen the experience that Rodea the Sky Soldier intended to provide. Rodea the Sky Soldier  tells the story of  a great war between two kingdoms: Naga the Machine Empire …

Onechanbara Z2: Chaos – Review

There is something about underdressed girls with sharp weapons fighting the forces of the undead that just seems to get people going. If that wasn’t the case, then how is it that Onechanbara has a long lineage of over ten games spanning from 2004 all the way up until 2015? Surely Tamsoft, the company behind the series’ development, are doing something right otherwise they wouldn’t have been given the money to continue developing additions to the series for all these years. It must be something primal within us, to want to mix sexuality with brutality…surely. Regardless, it seems to work, so I wont try to dissect it any more than I should. Instead, I should try to enjoy it for exactly what it is: A sexy gore-fest. Mindscape Australia, in conjunction with NIS America (Europe), have recently released Onechanbara Z2: Chaos across both Australia and New Zealand, and us here at SnapThirty have been given the mighty pleasure of reviewing it thanks to said companies. It’s a title I never once thought of playing, having seen …

Despair Is Only Months Away – Danganronpa: Another Episode Hits The West This September

Are you ready to feel absolute despair? Too bad! NIS America has today announced that the upcoming PlayStation Vita title Danganronpa: Another Episode – Ultra Despair Girls is set to hit the West this September. Yes, the publisher/developer has revealed the official release dates for both Europe and North America today, and they’re a great deal closer than you would have imagined. On the 1st of September the game will be made available in North America and on the 4th it will be made available in Europe. September 2015 is officially despair month seeing as most of the people playing the game aren’t going to be feeling anything but depression until they finish this twisted title. Different to the mainstream Danganronpa titles, Another Episode is not the courtroom simulator you think it is, in fact, it’s the total opposite. This new game takes players on a wild third-person shooter adventure set in a time wherein which the apocalypse has come about and the Earth is now ruled by those who worship despair. Your mission? Well, …

Keep Friends Close And Enemies Closer – Lost Dimension Hits Australia/New Zealand In August

In Francis Ford Coppola’s film sequel The Godfather: Part II, Al Pacino’s character Michael Corleone speaks the all so true words “keep your friends close and your enemies closer“. This saying has been passed down throughout recent history as something of a mystical saying, often being attributed to military strategist Sun Tzu who you may know wrote the book The Art Of War. This…is not true. It is simply a line from the movie The Godfather and although it is only this, it does indeed have some worldly truth. In the upcoming tactical RPG Lost Dimension players will fill the shoes of a psychic working within a sub-government agency called S.H.E.I.L.D whose only goal is Earthly defence from enemies of immeasurable power. Too bad one of your very own teammates is a traitor, too bad you don’t know which one. The upcoming PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita title developed by Lancarse and published by NIS America, is one of the more exciting video games of this year thanks to its interesting gameplay that, mixes both action, RPG and …

Good Grief – NIS America Reveals Danganronpa: Another Episode Limited Edition Pack

The Danganronpa series of despair-inducing video games is all about gruesome murders, heart-pounding trials, and watching the people you’ve come to call friends slowly betray you in every single way they possibly can…so why the hell are we always so excited for another game in the series to come out? All it ever does is bring is pain, but I guess it’s that good kind of pain, the one you feel when you get punched in the face by someone you love; it hurts a whole bunch but you still love them so you let it slide. NIS America have today revealed the Limited Edition pack for the upcoming Danganronpa Spin-off Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls which takes a nice break from the usual court-based gameplay of your standard Danganronpa game and replaces it with some pretty rad-looking third person shooter mechanics. It’s kind of hard to hate that right? Look, you should know about all this already because it was announced a long time ago and ever since then Nippon ichi Software have delivered …

Triple Threat – The Disgaea Triple Play Collection Is Coming To Europe

Yo, scrub! Did I just hear you say you’ve never played Disgaea? Yeah, you know the video game series I’m talking about; it’s a tactical role-playing game published by NIS America, and you’re saying you’ve never played it? How is that even possible?! Oh wait…you’ve played the first few games? I apologise, I misheard you. I guess that’s okay, but do you maybe want to play some of the other titles in the series but can’t really afford to buy each of the games individually? Awesome, dood! I got some good news for you! NIS America…Europe has today announced a new video game collection that brings together three of the newer Disgaea titles all on one PlayStation 3 release. Yep! The Disgaea Triple Play Collection has just been announced and it will be getting a European release on the 10th of July. This collection will feature Disgaea 3: Absence Of Justice, Disgaea 4: A Promise Unforgotten, and Disgaea D2: A Brighter Darkness. It’s perfect for those of you out there who need to play a little …

“ETRIAN ODYSSEY 2 UNTOLD: THE FAFNIR KNIGHT” COMING TO AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND IN 2016!

This truly is the age of RPGs and, as a huge fan of the genre, I cannot be more excited! We all know the Etrian Odyssey series of adventure games right? Yeah! You know the ones! Well there’s another release on the horizon and today NIS America in conjunction with ATLUS have announced that it will be making its way to Australia and New Zealand in 2016! Now I know what you’re thinking; “that’s so far away!”, fair enough, it is a little far away at this point in time but aren’t you just glad to hear that it’s actually getting a release this side of the world? Surely you have to be! Bandai Namco Games will be handling the distribution across the pair of countries which should give you hope that you’ll be knowing exactly when this game is set for a release as soon as you possibly can. Bamco don’t usually keep their audience waiting and I don’t think anything will change this time with Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold: The Fafnir Knight. As mentioned; the game …

Rodea: The Sky Soldier – European Release Date Announced

There’s something so exciting about the open sky. Humans, without the aid of high-powered machinery, have never been able to soar through the vast openness of the sky. We have always dreamed of being able to lift off the ground and, with our own spirit and will, be able to glide through the clouds like birds. At least, I know this of myself. I mean, surely we all think about this time and time again? People like me turn to things like movies and video games to try and, for just one moment, experience the feeling of free flight and it is games like “Rodea: The Sky Soldier” that really get the feeling right. NIS America have today announced the official European release date for the upcoming Wii U and 3DS action/adventure game, and it’s coming sooner than we think! September the 25th is the day that this mighty video game will hit shelves and on that day the masses will celebrate. Look, I know September isn’t as close as I made it seem BUT, …

Keep Friends Close And Enemies Closer – “Lost Dimension” Is Headed To The West

The act of betrayal is as old as history itself. It dates all the way back to the time of Jesus Christ who was put to death thanks to the greedy nature of someone he considered quite a close friend. It’s no surprise that an act as dastardly as this has lasted so long and it seems as though the higher up the social ladder you climb the more likely it is to happen to you, or vice versa. The upcoming tactical RPG “Lost Dimension” knows about this all too well. Announced over night, this critically-acclaimed psychic-fueled title will be making it’s way across the pond to but the Americas and Europe alongside Australia and New Zealand. In the Americas, ATLUS will be handling the distribution but in Europe it will be NIS America who will be in charge. This interesting little title will have you fill the shoes of a psychic user who’s part of the team I mentioned just above. The crazy thing about this game that may eventually come to bite you …

Rodea The Sky Soldier – Original Wii Came To Come Bundled With Wii U Version

This quite an odd but very much exciting addition to the upcoming release of NIS America’s “Rodea The Sky Soldier” that sees the Wii U game come paired with the original version designed specifically for the older Nintendo console the Wii. Yes, first-run copies of “Rodea The Sky Soldier” for the Wii U will be sold with a complementary version of the original game that, as NIS America states, is actually very much different from the version you’ll play on the newer Nintendo console. Players will be able to see the growth of the IP across the Wii and Wii U by being able to experience both version of the same game. What makes this even more exciting is that the Wii version was never released. Fantastically, this pairing has been announced for not only North America but for Europe as well! Usually this means it will also be made available across Australia and New Zealand but there’s been no confirmation on that as of yet so simply take this as educated speculation. “Rodea The …

Danganronpa 3 Is In Development…But You Won’t Be Seeing It For Quite Some Time

I woke up this morning feeling pretty happy. I went to bed early, I got a good sleep, I got up feeling refreshed, but something just wasn’t right. If anything, I was TOO happy and I needed to nip that in the bud before I got any happier. Thank the Lords above that this news came about because a little despair is exactly what I needed to bring back down to the level. Kodaka Kazutaka, while conversing with some very lucky people over at Polygon, revealed that the third “Danganronpa” video game is indeed in development but that a huge percentage of it is still very much in the early stages. As of right now, says Kazutaka, the game has yet to have been written but that’s what the team is working on presently. Fact is; “Danganronpa 3” IS coming…it will just be a while before we actually see it completed and released. That’s fine though, because all the good fans need to know is that it is indeed on the way. After the incredible …

NIS America Is Bringing Disgaea 5 To The West

We all saw this coming right? Of course! it would be an absolute travesty of the much-loved series of tactical RPGs’ newest title didn’t make it to local shores! I’d definitely be in an uproar and I’m sure I wouldn’t be alone. Well, alongside some great news regarding the localisation of “Danganronpa: Another Episode“, NIS America have today announced that they will also be bringing “Disgaea 5” to the West. Though no full english name has been disclosed, NIS America are very much certain that this PlayStation 4 exclusive will be released outside of Japan sometime this year. Of yes, that’s another thing; they didn’t announce exactly WHEN the game will be getting a release, just that it’ll happen sometime this year so stay on the lookout for that. No matter when we are able to get our hands on the new game, I can say for certain that it will get as high a reception as any of the previous “Disgaea” titles in the series. It’s a fan favorite for tactical RPGs and it’ll …

NIS America Is Bringing “Danganronpa: Another Episode” To The West This Fall

With every good video game there comes a sequel, with a great video game series like “Danganronpa” there comes not only sequels but spin-off titles, with every in-depth series there comes unanswered questions, and with every unanswered question there eventually comes a suitable answer. Surely by now you’ve heard of the story-bridging “Danganronpa” title “Another Episode” right? Well, if you haven’t, it’s a third-person shooter that follows a cast of new and old characters in the “real world” the “Danganronpa” series is set. With no “Trials” or “Investigations”, your job as the main character is to fight off the forces of the terrorising Monokuma robots and try your darnedest to help the rebels take back the world which has been plunged into darkness. Komaru Naegi, little sister to Makoto Naegi, has been imprisoned inside a mysterious apartment for over a year. One day, she is rescued by Byakuya Togami of Future Foundation, but the rescue is derailed by a sudden attack of hundreds of Monokumas. Komaru soon discovers that the city has been taken over …

Akiba’s Trip: Undead And Undressed – PlayStation 4 Review

Just incase you havn’t had enough fun running through the streets of Tokyo’s Akihabara, striping random civilians and getting chased by the cops, NIS America have decided that it’s time for the game you played on both the PlayStation Vita and the PlayStation 3 to be released on the console with greater capabilities; the PlayStation 4. It was only last year that the West got its chance to taste the incredibly Japanese style of “Akiba’s Strip: Undead and Undressed” and even though it met with pretty average scores the world over, it has still somehow remained such a lovable and well-enjoyed game. At least, people like it enough for the developers over at Acquire to organise for the game to receive an updated port for a “next gen” console. In fact, there’s already word that the same game will, once again, be ported onto another console! This time the Nintendo 3DS. What gameplay mechanics will be added to that version I have no idea, but I’m not here to talk about the game that hasn’t …

Disgaea 5 – Seraphina Introduction Video Released

Every hero needs friends. Simple as that! Without a team of trustworthy fighters covering you from all sides, there’s not a good chance you’re going to make it through whatever battle you may be fighting. You need allies! You need people who can help you out! “Disgaea 5” knows what I’m talking about because helping the main character Killia as he tries to set the Netherworld free of the choker hold Void Dark seems to have on it are a bunch of rambunctious ruffians willing to do all they can for the sake of all that is good! The latest in the “Disgaea” series, in case you’re unaware, has a bunch of Demon Lords going up against one terribly evil Demon Lord who only wants to crush the Netherworld and put it under his rule. Well no other Demon Lord wants that so the strongest have decided to team up with the game’s antagonist Killia to take down this ultimate evil. Over time, in the lead up to the release of the game, Nippon Ichi …

The “Arland Atelier Trilogy” Set To Be Released In Europe This March

It’s video game releases like this that I truly love. Have you ever gone to buy the latest in a game series and thought maybe you’re too late to the party to be able to endulge? I know I have! it took me quite a while to pump myself up to buy “Persona 4” even though I’ve not played “Persona 1” through “Persona 3”, but I did it. Though I always wanted to experience the entire series. NIS America have some very exciting news for those of you who’ve always wanted to get into the “Arland Atelier” RPG series: Come the 6th of March this year, European gamers will be able to play through each of the three “Arland Atelier” games thanks to the release of “Th Arland Atelier Trilogy”. This three game collection features “Atelier Rorona: The Alchemist Of Arland”, “Atelier Totori: The Adventurer Of Arland, and “Atelier Meruru: The Apprentice Of Arland” all on one glorious PlayStation 3 disc! What a time to be alive! There’s no better way to experience the wonderful lineage …

The Awakened Fate Ultimatum Announced For A North American/European Release

There exists a place between the land of the good and the land of the evil but this place is occupied by beings that fall under both categories. It’s a place we call “the real world” but little do we know that this world may not even truly be the “real” one. When Heaven and Hell clash, there are really only human casualties that get caught in between the crossfire and with the upcoming NIS America title “The Awakened Fate Ultimatum”, which has just been announced to be making its way to the West in 2015, you’ll be able to experience what it is like to be a God that must go to way with the forces of the malevolent for the sake of both the human world and the plane of existence where Heaven lies. “The Awakened Fate Ultimatum” is just another RPG title that NIS America is bringing to the West in 2015 and, to be entirely honest…I’m so very excited for it. As of late I’ve found myself loving RPGs more and …

Operation Abyss: New Tokyo Legacy Announced For A North American/European Release

When you do something great, it’s stupid for you to stop doing those things to start doing something else. The great Renaissance artist Michelangelo didn’t stop painting and instead begin making music. No…he became a Ninja Turtle but that was much later in his life. What I’m saying is that you should stick to what you’ve mastered and the team over at Experience Inc. are living up to their name and using that experience to, once again, bring us another great dungeon-crawling RPG and it goes by the name “Operation Abyss: New Tokyo Legacy”. You may have heard of these guys and gals if you’re familiar with the recent PlayStation Vita title “Demon Gaze”. Well Experience Inc. made that and now they’ve developed “OA: New Tokyo Legacy” with, thanks to NIS America, will be hitting North American and European shelves in the Spring of 2015 exclusively for the PlayStation Vita. NIS are trying to dominate the gaming market of 2015 and I cannot complain at all, but when it comes to explaining just why it is …

Disgaea 5 Announced For A North American/European Release

Hype has been swelling around the the newly announced “Disgaea 5” as of late but with all that hype came soft thoughts of whether or not the new tactical RPG title will actually be making it to the West, especially with the comments made by Nippon Ichi Software regarding their financial situation which, rumour has it, is a false statement. With so much uncertainty floating around it’s hard to put your finger on some solid information but NIS America have announced something that will bring a little bit of thought stability to fans of the series: “Disgaea 5” WILL be making its way to the West in the Fall/Autumn of 2015 exclusively for the PlayStation 4. With some awesome updated graphics and the same gameplay mechanics you’ve come to know and love but with a few tweaks for a fresh new take, it’s pretty hard to pass up the new “Disgaea 5” but don’t take it from me, NIS America know exactly why their upcoming game will be legendary and this is why: Alliance Attacks: …

Have You Met Killia? – “Disgaea 5” Character Introduction Video Released

Nippon Ichi Software have come out recently and said that the continued existence of the video game developer and publisher now relies solely on how well “Disgaea 5” does upon release. Though sad to see such a wonderful and much-loved company going through some hard times, I like to find fortune in the unfortunate and I think the fact that “Disgaea 5” is going to be their “Hail Mary” is going to work out so well for them. At least, I very much hope so. As a way of promoting the game that could mean life or death for the company and to raise hype for what I’ve quickly come to look at as the next best thing in tactical RPG gaming, Nippon Ichi Software have begun releasing character introduction videos with the first to get the spotlight obviously being the main protagonist of the game…Killia. If you don’t know who Killia is; he’s a young Demon Lord who’s out for revenge and will stop at nothing to exact it. Shirtless and fearless, this Dragonewt …

“Akiba’s Trip: Undead and Undressed” To Be Released In Europe Next February

“Akiba’s Trip: Undead and Undressed” for the PlayStation Vita and the PlayStation 3 has already been released worldwide but NIS America just want you to know that you havn’t seen anything yet, not until you’ve laid eyes on the upcoming PlayStation 4 version of the stripping game many people the world over love so dearly. Yes, in case you havn’t heard; there IS a PlayStation 4 version of this game that comes loaded up with a whole bunch of gameplay extras as well as some fantastic graphics that just couldn’t be seen on the PS3 and PS Vita thanks to their inferior visual capabilities. That isn’t the case anymore though. The PlayStation 4 version is on the way and with it will come a whole new gameplay experience that NIS America boasts people who’ve already played the game will still enjoy. “Undead and Undressed” has already been released on the PlayStation 4 in both Japan and in North America with the next in line to get the game being Europe. NIS America announced today that the …

“Under Night In-Birth EXE:Late” Is Making Its Way To Australia And New Zealand

Released in Japan last year and already announced for distribution in North America, “Under Night In-Birth EXE:Late” is a fairly unheard of fighting game developed by the same studio that brought you “Melty Blood”…another semi-unheard of Japanese fighting game. Though it dominates Japanese arcades, it doesn’t necessarily have much of a presence outside of the great country and that’s probably because it simply doesn’t get that much promotion in the West. Well that’s all about to change soon because today NIS America, who distributes the game across Europe, has announced that “Under NIght In-Birth EXE:Late” is heading down to Australia and New Zealand in 2015 and they want you all to get ready for one hell of a twisted fighting game! Since time immemorial, the organization known as the “Night Blade” has acted as guardians in what is known as the “Hollow Night”. While resting from her eternal labors in a non-descript town that the Princess of the Night Blade, Linne, meets a young boy named Hyde, who is in possession of the fabled sword …

Arcana Heart 3: LOVE MAX!!!! – Review

Oh I love me some fighting games! I’m not that good at them but, for some reason, I continuously find myself attracted to them. I stop to look at the case of the latest “Street Fighter” and “Tekken” games even though I know I wont play them nearly as much as I think will. I also happen to love incredibly niche and semi-unheard of Japanese games that only I, three other Western gamers, and a hundred thousand Japanese arcade-goers know of. Good or bad, I love tackling these games. If they’re bad I can just blame the development crew, if they’re good I can pretend I “discovered” the game and I’ll talk about it until my friends kick me out of what will probably be a moving car. “Arcana Heart 3: LOVE MAX!!!!” was released originally as an arcade game in Japan and then subsequently on home consoles. Well, it’s now reached the West despite the previous titles in the series ever doing the same and, thanks to our wonderful contacts, I’ve been given the …

Disgaea 5 – Meet The Demon Lords Christo and Zeroken

There’s nothing more powerful than the friendship shared between two or more people. It’s a fact! Every single kids television show has proven to me that without friendship nothing can be accomplished. This is why Killia, the main character of NIS’ upcoming “Disgaea 5” tactical RPG, will accomplish all the goals he sets out for himself. It’s all because of the friends he keeps. Here’s the story of the game so far: Void Dark is a super evil Demon Lord that plans on conquering the entire Netherworld but there are a bunch of other Demon Lords who don’t necessarily want that because, well…this guy is SUPER evil. Killia, the shirtless main character, has some pretty deep beef with Void Dark and has decided to rise up against him. Unfortunately Killia isn’t strong enough to do it on his own so he sets off on a journey around the Netherworld recruiting other Demon Lords who also don’t like the idea of Void Dark being in total control. This is where Christo and Zeroken come in. In …

Disgaea 5 – Character Technique Videos Released

The end of 2014 is just on the horizon and the arrival of 2015 will bring about a whole new list of video games set for a release. One of those games just so happens to be Nippon Ichi Software’s next addition to the critically-acclaimed grid-based RPG series “Disgaea 5” for the PlayStation 4. Now at this point in time, not a lot is known about the upcoming game, just that it revolves around a demon lord named Killia who’s on a mighty quest to unite some of the other demon lords to fight for one cause against a hyper-tyrannical being of pure malevolence but, knowing “Disgaea”, I’m sure it’ll be a whole bunch more than just that. With it getting a release over in Japan on the 26th of March in 2015, there’s still plenty of time to wait before anyone gets their hands on this game. That is why Nippon Ichi Software have released a set of very short videos showing audiences a couple of the techniques you’ll be helping these characters master …

Akiba’s Trip: Undead And Undressed – Review

A young man and a beautiful girl speed through the busy streets of Akihabara. The duo duck and dodge in and out of back alleys as the people they pass by holler words of encouragement. They’re being chased. Hunted, but not for long. They find the perfect battlefield: Somewhere not as populated as the main streets. Somewhere they can let loose. Somewhere they can fight without holding back. Somewhere they can strip to their hearts content. They call themselves the Akiba Freedom Fighters and the ones they battle, they’re an army of superhuman beings called Synthisters that have neatly woven themselves throughout mainstream Akihabara society and they need to be taken down. Now. In ‘Akiba’s Trip: Undead and Undressed’ you play as, well…you. You’re the main character and, after applying for a dodgy-sounding job, you wake up to find that you’re no longer the same person you once were. Attacked by the people who imprisoned you, you’re saved by a young girl who seems to know of your situation. She saves you and explains that …

Disgaea 4: A Promise Revisited – Review

A man only has two things in this world: His word and his balls. Any good man wouldn’t break either for anybody. That’s a lesson that I was originally taught by Al Pacino in his role as Tony Montana from the hit 80s film ‘Scarface’. Now, at the ripe old age of twenty, I’ve been given the chance to play the PlayStation Vita port ‘Disgaea 4: A Promise Revisited’, a game that features a main character who just so happens to feel the same way as the Colombian drug lord himself. While Valvatorez the vampire doesn’t deal with narcotics, he was once called a tyrant…that was, until he made a promise to a young girl named Artina to never drink the blood of a human again. Being a demon doesn’t mean he has no morals. Valvatorez agreed and never again touched the sweet blood of a human being, teaching us that a promise is never to be broken. ‘Disgaea 4’ was originally released on the PlayStation 3 back in 2011 under the title ‘A Promise …

Disgaea 5 – Meet Kilia, Seraphine and Usalia

The Netherworld is a strange but wonderful place full of odd creatures both horrendous and cute. If you’re a human weighed down by sin you’ll be sent to the pits of the Netherworld where you’ll be broken down and built back up as a penguin-like creature called a Prinny. Some lucky otherworldly beings will be born as a demon wherein which they’ll spend the rest of their lives growing stronger, one day overthrowing their respective leaders and taking over as lords of the domain. Others fall under the category as monsters, while not as strong as demons these monsters do possess more power than humans but not quite enough to become overlords. What I’m saying is…the Netherworld is a mixed up place with many contradictory rules, more races than you can point an oversized blade at and a social hierarchy so corrupt and unfair it’ll make your head spin. 4Gamers, the Japanese online publication, has updated their website to include more information about Nippon Ichi Software’s (NIS) upcoming strategy RPG ‘Disgaea 5’. It was only …

Disgaea 5 Is Looking Damn Good! First Screenshots Released

It’s so close to the announcement of the game and already Nippon Ichi Software (NIS) have released the very first screenshots and character design images of their upcoming RPG title ‘Disgaea 5′. It’s clear that these guys and gals are on the freakin’ ball! Sony held a press conference just a couple of days ago wherein which they announced a bunch of new video games. One of those games happened to be ‘Disgaea 5’, a video game that NIS mentioned a while ago stating that it is on it’s way. Well they weren’t lying because only a couple of days later the world has been met with the very first screenshots of the upcoming series addition! Though we have no information about who these characters are or what exactly they do, what we do know is that the game is looking down right fantastic.   Alongside these screenshots comes an image which seems to show a special edition version of the game that looks to come with what looks like a soundtrack and art book. …

Disgaea 5 Confirmed! Heading To The PlayStation 4 In 2015 + Teaser Trailer

A few of weeks ago, in case a few of you have forgotten, a fantastic Twitter user who goes by the handle GILGAMESH501XX ‘Tweeted’ out a picture of a NIS (Nippon Ichi Software) greeting card, sent out to some lucky people as a nice, warm, Summer salutation. Gilgamesh, as I will call him, noticed something interesting about the image featured on this greeting card; the characters shown aren’t that familiar but the way they look, now…that was a different story. Speculation began to gravitate around this image which featured ‘Disgaea-like’ characters alongside a series regular Prinny. Today, during Sony Computer Entertainment’s pre-TGS (Tokyo Game Show) press conference, it was confirmed that the image that featured on the greeting card was indeed from the upcoming ‘Disgaea 5’. Alongside this confirmation came one hell of a teaser trailer which basically just showed that image again and again…and again and again and again! The game is set for a Japanese release on the PlayStation 4 sometime next year and a release throughout the rest of the world sometime …

NIS America Releases A New Batch Of ‘Natural Doctrine’ Screenshots

There’s nothing more frustrating than a video game you cannot win. It’s games like ‘Dark Souls’ that I avoid and, up until recently, I’ve been very excited to get my hands on NIS America’s upcoming tactical RPG ‘Natural Doctrine’, that is…until I found out the two games were quite similar. That’s OK though because my resolve is fiery and I’m going to tackle ‘Natural Doctrine’ as best I can alongside all my gamer brothers and sisters! NIS America have gone ahead today and released a bunch of brand-new screenshots for the game that basically show the more detailed and intricate aspects of gameplay. The images may look daunting but we’re assured that the game is going to be as brilliant an experience as it possibly can and a lot of people are going to finish it with smiles on their faces and a new found love for RPGs in their hearts. Alongside the new screenshots, NIS America also released a trailer for ‘Natural Doctrine’ of which we’ve also provided below just under the small gallery …

The PlayStation 3 exclusive is set to hit local shelves in September of this year with North America getting it on the 16th and Europe on the 19th. With only a month to go until the release, NIS America are doing us all a solid by releasing a nice new batch of screenshots that happen to showcase some of the more dialogue-heavy gameplay moments of the new title. These screenshots will introduce you, somewhat, to the characters who will follow you on your journey as well as a nice example of some of the exchanges you’ll be having along the way. Long ago, a dreadful war was fought between the …

NIS America Releases A New Batch Of “Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair” Screenshots

NIS America have pleased fans, once again, today by releasing a brand-new batch of screenshots from their upcoming ‘Danganronpa’ title ‘Goodbye Despair’. With only a month or so left until the game gets an official release, NIS America have decided that their fans deserve a little more enticement so they’ve gone ahead and released a series of eight new screenshots which just so happen to depict some of the upgraded gameplay mechanics that will feature in the new game. ‘Logic Dive’, ‘Hangman’s Gambit’ and the ‘Rebuttal Showdown’ each get their fair share of the spotlight in these screenshots as they’re introduced to the audience for the very first time. The ‘Logic Dive’ is a gameplay state where players must ride a mental skateboard down the path of truth as they’re confronted by questions from others which must be overcome to be able to continue on your way. The ‘Hangman’s Gambit’ is a type of spelling side game that has you try your hand at spelling out a word using singular letters that are flying across …

Be they human, beast or even God, Hamilcar accepts them for who they …

North America To Get A PS4 Release Of “Akiba’s Trip: Undead And Undressed”

Ohohoho! What do we have here? A saucy little update on the upcoming action/adventure sequel “Akiba’s Strip: Undead and Undressed” that has the game supposedly hitting the PlayStation 4 in North America like it has already done in Japan. This…is…fantastic! Originally the game was just announced to be getting a release on both the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita which isn’t at all a bad thing, we were just glad to be getting it, but now it has been revealed that North America too will be able to play this ultra sexy, ultra stylish game in it’s full HD glory on the PlayStation 4. If you’ve no idea what this game is, allow me to explain: You play as a young man named Nanashi who has recently been…killed. Well not killed, it’s more like he’s become a zombie but not the type of zombie you see in cheesy 80s films, he’s kind of just no longer alive, yet still kind of alive. It’s a little confusing but bare with me as we hack and slash …

Next Nippon Ichi Software Video Game Title Teased By Countdown Site

There are certain things companies can do in this industry to raise hype: Some choose to release trailers of their new games, others decide to simply advertise that there will be a new game but there are a special few that, well…they just like to tease fans. Nippon Ichi Software, also known more commonly as NIS, have today launched a website that is essentially counting down to an the announcement of their ‘next big thing’. The website, which you can check out by Clicking Here, is pretty bare bones when it comes to actual information. Really, it’s just well-composed photograph of a a beautiful woman of oriental background in traditional garb holding a PlayStation Vita. Next to her is what looks to be a chest of gold, as you can clearly see in the picture above. This website will be updated every day at exactly 12:00am (Japanese time). Whether or not the ‘update’ will just bring about another picture similar to the last or some actual information on the title is beyond me at this …

“Akiba’s Trip: Undead & Undressed” Is Coming To Europe!

‘Akiba’s Trip: Undead and Undressed’ is an odd yet immeasurably popular game that has gained quite a great deal of positive reception in the West as of late and guess what? It’s going to be making it’s way over to Europe very soon thanks to ‘NIS America’! You play as a young man named Nanashi who has recently been…killed. Well not killed, it’s more like he’s become a zombie but not the type of zombie you see in cheesy 80s films, he’s kind of just no longer alive, yet still kind of alive. It’s a little confusing but bare with me as we hack and slash our way through it. Before fully succumbing to the darkness, Nanashi is saved by a young maiden who just so happens to work for an organization called the ‘Akiba Freedom Fighters’ who have dedicated their lives to stopping the vampire invasion one blood-sucker at a time. As Nanashi, you join the ‘Freedom Fighters’ and help in their mission to rid Akihabara of it’s vampire problem. These vampires, or ‘Synthesizers’, …

‘Demon Gaze 2’ Said To Already Be in Development

Old-school dungeon crawling at it’s finest, ‘Demon Gaze’ was released in Europe only a few months ago, with it’s release in Japan obviously being earlier than that, and already it has been announced that a sequel to the game is already in development. Publisher Kadokawa and developer Experience, have come out over the weekend and said that plans for the game’s sequel have already been set into motion with an estimated release date simply being sometime in late 2015. The sequel is set to be released on the PlayStation Vita like it’s predecessor with Hajime Chikami (president of Experience) saying that there may be a release on other consoles though their focus as of right now is strictly on the PlayStation Vita, which is fantastic because the Vita doesn’t get as much attention as I believe it deserves. NIS America brought the RPG dungeon crawler to North America in Europe and hopes are that they do the same with it’s sequel. If you’ve yet to play the game but have somewhat of an interest in …

Criminal Girls: Invite Only and The Awakened Fate Ultimatum Coming To The West In 2015

It’s the most wonderful time of the year. I’m walking about the Anime Expo weekend…not Christmas. Andy Williams had you all fooled. A huge part of the convention’s festivities are it’s panels and with those panels comes some awesome announcements regarding video games, Anime, Manga, whatever! It’s all there! At NIS America’s panel this year, the American publisher revealed that they will be bringing both ‘Criminal Girls: Invite Only’ and ‘The Awakened Fate Ultimatum’ to North America and Europe sometime next year! No specific date was revealed. ‘Criminal Girls: Invite Only’ will be getting a release on the PlayStation Vita whereas ‘The Awakened Fate Ultimatum’ will find it’s home on the PlayStation 3. Both of these title were only ever released over in Japan but, come 2015, that is all going to change. ‘Criminal Girls: Invite Only’ is a quite a special release. It was originally a game for the PlayStation Portable but has now been brought to the Vita with a huge overall upgrade that boosts graphics quality and upgrades gameplay mechanics, as …
