Paramount Releases First Full Ghost In The Shell Live-Action Film Trailer

This type of thing is happening so often in contemporary times, and yet none of it seems real until it is directly in front of us. Although the live-action Ghost In The Shell film starring Scarlett Johansson was revealed quite some time ago, it is only now that my mind is able to properly comprehend that this is indeed a reality. Paramount Pictures have, overnight, begun streaming the first official trailer for the upcoming Ghost In The Shell film, and it has taken the internet by storm simply because, well…it’s here. The trailer goes for a startling two and a half minutes, which is only startling because, from what history as taught us, this promotional process usually starts small and builds up, but with Ghost In The Shell it’s starting off fairly strong with, I hope, all the intentions of getting stronger. The trailer briefly describes what the movie’s story will be baed upon, but it’s so vague that really only true fans of the source material will be able to understand. This film seemingly …

Japanese Public Weighs In On Hollywood White-Washing of Ghost in the Shell

Many anime fans and also many who are not that have taken to the web to complain and feign surprise that Hollywood have cast a white actress in a role of a Japanese character. Said actress is Scarlett Johansson and said role is Motoko Kusanagi the lead in iconic anime film Ghost in the Shell. Personally I think that the people complaining about white-washing simply don’t know how Hollywood works or that quite obviously this isn’t a literal adaptation in the sense they clearly presume it is. Scarlett Johansson will not be a character named Motoko Kusanagi, lets just get that straight to begin with, nor will it likely be set in Japan. If that is a deal breaker for you in an American film then you probably don’t watch many Hollywood movies. That said, the general opinion of these detractors is that this is a case of racism in Hollywood which has a history of white-washing and yellow face. I won’t deny Hollywood’s dark past but if you watch the video below a Japanese …

Ghost In The Shell – Live-Action Movie Release Date Announced

This is something I don’t think anyone imagined would be announced this early on the process but here it is: Earlier this week it was revealed that the talented actress and all around beauty Scarlett Johansson had signed on to play the role of Motoko Kusanagi in the upcoming live-action adaptation of “Ghost In The Shell”. Disney, who owns Touchstone Pictures, announced today that the film has been set for a release on the 14th of April, 2017. At two years away, it seems very odd to have such a specific release date but it is what it is and hopefully Disney, alongside all who will be making the film, stick to their guns and head for a smooth release without delays. Clearly Johansson’s attachment to the film has made the green-lighting process a great deal swifter which will hopefully lead to a quick and fruitful few years of shooting and overall development. This is really exciting for Anime fans who’ve been waiting for something like this to happen for quite some time and with the …

First Look At The New ‘Ghost in the Shell’ Movie, It Looks Good

Ghost in the Shell is more than just a global multi-million dollar anime, manga, film and video-game franchise. Ghost in the Shell is a revolution that started turning 25 years ago. A fire that still burns today. Now here we stand 25 years later with a brand new Ghost in the Shell film on its way. The revolution still rages on as the very definition of anime is once again redefined. The impact of Ghost in the Shell has made a lasting impact on the anime medium with countless series drawing inspiration from the classic. Production I.G. have released a trailer showcasing the first look at the upcoming 2015 anime film. To put it lightly, it looks good, to put it extremely, I think I just wet myself. See for yourself in the trailer below. Do be sure to stay tuned for further updates on the film as we head towards its imminent release into the world. -30-

Scarlett Johansson To Play Motoko Kusanagi In Live-Action “Ghost In The Shell” Film

The gorgeous Scarlett Johansson is no stranger to playing kick-arse femme fatales and she’s definitely no stranger to performing in some of modern history’s most exciting science-fiction films so it only makes sense that she’d sign on to play Miss Motoko Kusanagi for the live-action film adaptation of the much-loved franchise “Ghost In The Shell”. Set in a distant future ruled by the omnipotence of bleeding edge technologies, “Ghost In The Shell” follows the stories of the law-enforcing cyborg Motoko Kusanagi as she comes into contact with good robots gone bad and everything else you could imagine existing in a world overpopulated by future technologies. Mrs. Johansson apparently wasn’t sure whether or not she wanted to take the role which is understandable seeing as Hollywood hasn’t exactly done much with Japanese Pop Culture adaptations but I’m sure it was somewhat the success of “Edge Of Tomorrow” that gave her a little more confidence in the role. Hopefully her connection to the project means it will go through a swift green-lighting process which will eventually mean we’ll be …

‘Ghost in the Shell’ 25th Anniversary Edition Review

It has been a colossal 25 years since the world was first introduced to the cyberpunk future of Ghost in the Shell. Originally a manga series from Masamune Shirow, the series has spawned an entire franchise worth of related media including this unforgettable 1995 feature length classic simply titled Ghost in the Shell. With allusions to sci-fi masterpieces such as Blade Runner, it was no wonder that Ghost in the Shell became a hit in the West just as much as it was in Japan. What really makes Ghost in the Shell such an unforgettable experience however is what lies underneath, an exploration of the nature of identity and its inherent relation to belonging. With this remastered edition, Ghost in the Shell is brought back to life in gorgeous Blu-Ray format. So does it still hold up after all these years? Ghost in the Shell has always been touted as one of the most thought-provoking anime stories ever put to the silver screen and after watching through this film for what is likely my 5th …
