Class Starts Now! – Funimation Acquires International Rights To My Hero Academia

What do you know about being a hero, huh? Being a hero takes guts, it takes bravery, it takes courage, it takes…wait, those are all kind of the same thing right? Damn, I don’t have any of those things, but do you know who does? A young man named Izuku Midoriya! Despite the fact that he doesn’t have any natural-born superhuman abilities, and most of the world around him does, he still dreams of one day being a great hero to rival that of All Might; his personal idol, and the world’s most powerful superhero. My Hero Academia, the Manga written by Kohei Horikoshi, follows Izuku Midoriya’s story as he trains to become the greatest hero under the tutelage of All Might. The Manga that has taken the world by storm is about to have it’s very own Anime adaptation which, until just recently, was only going to be shown across the great country of Japan. Thanks to the wonderful people of Funimation, this series is now going to be broadcast in the West alongside that of …

First Thoughts: Concrete Revolutio – It’s All In The Name

What does Anime and a majority of Fall Out Boy song titles have in common? Often their names don’t match their content, and for the new Anime series Concrete Revolutio, this is absolutely the case. Judging by the name alone, what exactly would you think this Anime is about? Construction, the booming concrete industry, something…gritty? Probably! If you did though…you’d be wrong, because Concrete Revolutio is a new Studio Bones production centred around a Hellboy-like government agency tasked with both protecting and sometimes destroying supernatural forces. The first episode specifically introduces the audience to the protagonist of the series as he sends an Ultraman-style entity back to the planet whence he came. Luckily, it’s sub-title “Choujin Gensou“, literally translates to “Superhuman Story“, so that’s where you can get an idea of just what this Anime is about. Almost too vibrant and colourful for an average human to watch comfortably, Concrete Revolutio featured some amazing visual qualities that paired well with it’s strange but interesting pop culture-heavy story that, in this episode, featured two Tokusatsu warriors, …

Wanna Be The Strongest In The World – Series Collection Review

What is Shoot Wrestling? Well, for one, it’s not the type of wrestling you’ll see in a standard WWE bout. Shoot Wrestling is a full-contact style of the professional sport that hit it big in Japan in the 70s which allowed wrestlers to partake in matches not as heavily scripted than what we see in the Western circuit today. Fighters hit each other hard with not a single punch being pulled, and what went on throughout the match was not as predictable. There are certain things in life, this being one of them, that are perfect appropriation material for an exciting Anime. The last time we saw a worthwhile series about full-contact wrestling was with Ultimate Muscle (Kinnikuman) which made it’s debut back around the same time as Shoot Wrestling itself…and I feel like that hasn’t changed, even with the release of Wanna Be The Strongest In The World. The eye-popping world of women’s professional wrestling is sweaty, sadistic, and savagely sexy. Famous Japanese pop idol Sakura Hagiwara is better suited for the dance floor …

Jailhouse Rock – FUNimation Announces Prison School English Dub Cast

I’m sure the humour of an Elvis reference in the article title will be lost on many of you reading this but just know one thing…the warden will throw no parties at this jail. Another one, probably lost on many of you. That’s okay though, because it’s not the main point of this article, the main point of this article is that FUNimation have just revealed the cast and crew who have been working on the Prison School English dub which is set to premier tomorrow night in North America at 8:30/7:30pm CT. I seem to be one of the only people I know who is actually watching Prison School which is fine because I’m not sure it’s a series I exactly want to take the time to dissect episode by episode like I usually do with a lot of other simulcasts. The story is simple: Five boys attending a school filled entirely by female students are sent to an on-campus prison for trying to perve on their lady classmates. This prison, run by some …

Ian Sinclair Announced As English Voice For Gangsta’s Worick Arcangelo

The subs vs dubs argument is slowly being phased out nowadays, and that’s thanks to production companies like FUNimation who are constantly preparing for an English release of the most popular new shows. The latest to get the dubbing treatment is none other than Studio Manglobe’s Gangsta. Based off of a Manga by the same name, Gangsta follows the life of two neutral men living in a time plagued by crime. That’s not the worst part though; there’s a war on the horizon, and as the only impartial party…they’re in the center of it all. FUNimation has today announced just a few of the names of those who’re working on the English dub of the series with Ian Sinclair at the tip of the spear as series lead Worick Arcangelo. CAST  Ian Sinclair – Worick Arcangelo Brandon Potter – Nicolas Brown Felecia Angelle – Alex Benedetto John Swasey – Chad Adkins Aaron Roberts – Cody Balfour CREW  Christopher Bevins – ADR Director Jeremy Inman – Asst. ADR Director Domonique French – ADR Engineer Greg Taylor …

First Thoughts: Prison School – Drop The Soap, You’ll Probably Like It!

Holy shit! You guys seriously have to check out Prison School! It’s like, wow, I never start articles in such unprofessional ways, especially not with a swear, but this Anime is absolutely freaking crazy, so much so that I honestly cannot write an article about it in any kind of professional manner. It simply would not fit this atrociously hilarious Anime! You know, it’s actually quite funny, I watched the first episode of this Summer Anime with the thought in mind that it was going to be utter trash and that I’d be watching it just so I could talk about it on the next episode of our very own SnapCast, making jokes and ripping it to shreds as Luke and Kane laugh along. Turns out that this hyper-sexual comedy is actually one of my more favoured Anime series’ from the lineup of new Summer titles. Why though? It plays host to a level of sexuality that can only be described as unnervingly aggressive. It is, at it’s very core, the softest version of dominatrix …

First Thoughts: Gangsta – Sharp Eyes And A Silver Tongue

This is the Anime adaptation I’ve been waiting for…and within one episode it has reached my incredibly high expectations. There aren’t many Anime series’ out there that can do THAT! If you can’t quite tell what Anime I’m talking about, you’ve clearly not read the article title. We’re talking about Gangsta, dammit! The Anime adaptation of Kohske’s hit gangland Manga series by the same name. As a man who’s read and reviewed all the available Manga volumes to date, loving each and every one of them, my excitement for this Anime series was almost uncontrollable…but then so were my expectations which, funily enough, didn’t lead me astray. I was assured, by the series itself, that it would translate into Anime well, and…holy crap, it did! By now you really should know the story of Gangsta but for those of you who don’t; the series revolves around two men living in a city populated by criminals, scumbags, hitmen, gangsters, and everything else you could imagine from a town run entirely by four different mafia families. The …

Unbreakable Machine Doll – Series Collection Review

Human beings are creatures of legacy. This is something that I’ve believed in ever since I could recall past thoughts. Why is it that we do the things we do as citizens of this Earth when, sooner or later, we will breath our last breath and be taken from this world? It is the idea of legacy; leaving something behind, that fuels ambition, that fuels momentum, and that fuels advancement. We live for what came before us and we use that to push forward into the future. As a man who lost his father at a young age, this is all too real for me. I wear his necklace in remembrance and I do what I do thanks to what he left behind; a passionate and hopefully everlasting fire. A legacy can be literally anything, that’s what’s amazing! It doesn’t have to be a piece of jewellery or money or anything materialistic like that, though it can be. A legacy is similar to a memory, the difference being that it attains a life of its own …

Final Thoughts: “Death Parade” – Life Isn’t A Game

It all started with a small project, a story about life and death being laid out onto the felt of a billiards table. That turner into so much more with the eventual beginning of the series we now call “Death Parade”. Knowing not what to expect besides the playing of bar games in contention for ones life, “Death Parade” immediately grasped the attention of audiences the world over not only wity the nature of its story but with the varying directions each episode followed. To say the very least…”Death Parade” was truly the stand out series of the season. In twelve episodes the series managed to introduce us to a pretty sizeable cast while detailing to us just why it is that we should like or hate them without being to overt or obvious about it. Every episode was wrapped in an air of mystery and you never truly knew who’s side you were on until the very last minutes but as those final moments rolled in it was finally made clear just who these …

Final Thoughts: “Tokyo Ghoul √A” – Remember Who I Am

“Tokyo Ghoul”, when it first started, wasn’t exactly my most favoured Anime series. Within one season all it seemed to accomplish was something I believe we, the greater pop culture audience, has seen countless times. It had a very well-rounded and structured foundation that was weakened by what I consider to be unnecessary plot points and developments. The first season left me wanting so much more from the series that people ranted and raved about. “Tokyo Ghoul” was an instant hit, especially with the Tumblr crowd, but it never piqued my interest in the same way it did many others. That is…until season two came along; “Tokyo Ghoul √A”. The first episode blew me away. It hit me so much harder than the entire first season did and I was left in a state of pure awe. Read about it here. What surprised me even more was that the rest of the season continued to get better and better. I can’t even think of an episode I was remotely upset with or bored by and, …

First Thoughts: “Death Parade” – Taking Bar Sports To The Extreme

On the 11th of January, 2015. Melbourne, Australia. Three people were injured at a darts tournament when the crowd became rowdy and began throwing the chairs they once sat on into a pile. Some began hurling themselves at the pile while others cheered on from the sidelines. While there were no casualties and only three people suffered minor injury, the riot squad was called to quell the storm that these darts fans had conjured up. Soccer (Football) games have always been known for the hooliganism of fans but I think it’s time for soccer to sit this one out because it seems as though darts produce a lot rowdier of a crowd than we thought. As I’m reading this news I’m thinking to myself; “Surely this is the oddest darts-related thing I’ll come across today”…but then I watched the very first episode of “Death Parade”. Having watched “Death Billiards” some time ago, I have been anticipating “Death Parade” for a fairly long time. Watching through the short film that would eventually lead to the creation of …

First Thoughts: “The Rolling Girls” – Girls And Bikes And Lots Of Fun

There are bikes, there are girls and there are a whole bunch of fight scenes. What more could you want from a contemporary Anime? It’s the start of 2015 and, for us here at SnapThirty, it’s been a damn good one. Making a sweet beginning of the year even sweeter is the arrival of the latest Anime season; Winter. With the Winter Anime season comes a few series’ that havn’t quite been on my radar but that I’m glad to have taken the time to watch. One of those Anime’s is “The Rolling Girls” which has just begun streaming through the official FUNimation site and is set to start airing through AnimeLab, Madman Entertainment’s official streaming service, now! I’ve been sitting at my desk for quite some time now, pondering, wondering, typing and deleting, finding it very difficult to start this article. “Why?”, I ask myself. Most of my other impression articles come through seamlessly but for some reason my thoughts on “The Rolling Girls” is jammed up somewhere in my head. “Maybe a good slap …

FUNimation To Stream Psycho-Pass 2 English Dub

FUNimation have today announced that they will be streaming the new sequel series “Psycho-Pass 2” online for their premium members in high quality and…in full English dub. That’s twice as exciting! Not only will you be able to watch the series legally but you’ll also be able to watch it in English. As you may know, FUNimation did this previously with the Shinichiro Watanabe series “Space Dandy” and it went swimmingly. My thoughts are that it can only work the same for “Psycho-Pass 2”. Starting on Saturday at 1pm ET/ 12pm CT, this series will be accompanied by a little competition set up by FUNimation just to see how good you are at picking voice actors and actresses. Basically you’re to listen to the dub and guess who voices who, you’ll then submit your answers to FUNimation through their Twitter ( For full info: Click Here) and you may just win yourself a HUGE “Psycho-Pass 2” poster. Tune in and prepare for a wild ride with the FUNimation dub of “Psycho-Pass 2”. -30-
