Japanese Video Game of the Year Awards – 2016

It’s that time of year (give or take a few weeks) where we all take a second and ponder the year that was. However, rather than use this time for introspection or self betterment, why not just think about which games were most fun? Which ones took you by surprise, which ones met your expectations and which ones exceeded them by far. If only there were some already completed list to help spark your though process, complete with pictures and individualised blurbs… Why, who put this here? What luck! A (somewhat) well thought out list of Japanese based video games that made 2016 fun. Talk about a lucky break. Why not give it a look? I’ll meet you down at the bottom of the page. Have fun! GOTY – Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth 2016 was, in the eyes of many fans, a year dedicated to the long-running Monster Taming franchise Digimon. At the forefront of it’s year-long victory was none other than this year’s Game Of The Year; Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth. The first worthwhile …

Final Fantasy XV – Review

Well folks, it’s finally here; the game we’ve all been waiting for nigh on a decade now…or was it longer? Though understanding regarding the development processes of a video game vary, I think everybody can agree that they are simply happy that this period of waiting is now over. Of course, that means that everybody can now play the XV (nee Versus XIII) adventure they have so longed for, finally, and perhaps contentiously, putting that one burning question to rest; Is it as good as we’ve hoped? The Hype Train, as it has so been dubbed, is a rather perilous facet of pop culture. With passengers pinning their hopes and dreams on a station not yet reached, joy can turn to malice in an instant depending on how well their dreams and ideas mesh with the reality presented to them. Of course, this effect is only intensified by a particularly lengthy journey and with more than a decade of trailers, concepts and plans behind them, Square Enix lay bound to the tracks before this aforementioned train. …

Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV – Review

For as long as there has been more than one kingdom, there have been tales of war. Not trying to be glib, just stating the facts. Small disagreements, minute clashes that escalate as populations boon, swirling into a chaos of misunderstandings, conflicts of ideals and simple greed. Now, this is not to say that peace is an impossibility, but that it is a possibility hidden in the depths of the future, one that must be purposefully reached. Additionally, in the world of fiction, war makes for a far more compelling story than peace, especially when said war involves lightning, gods and really, really cool daggers. XV. Those two letters representing two numbers representing over a decade of waiting, a waiting which is still being enacted. No, my friends, this is not the game you are looking for, but a movie based within its world. A prequel of sorts delving into the story of a protagonist unseen thus far. Rather than add to the tale of Noctis Lucis Caelum (as Brotherhood Final fantasy XV does), Kingsglaive …

The Twain Shall Meet – Final Fantasy XV TGS 2015 Trailer Revealed

One of the longest awaited Final Fantasy games in quite a while has reveived yet another trailer thanks to the Tokyo Game show of this, the year 2015. Now, whether you believe this game to be awaited due to its content or the delays that saw it jump from a member of the XIII franchise to its own shiny new number is neither hither nor thither, because we’re here to look at a pretty trailer. Graphics away! Rounding out as pretty brief in the ol’ length department, this cinematic trailer shows us glimpses of protagonist Noctis and a semi-imprisoned lady known as Luna. I say semi-imprisoned on account of her simply brushing aside one of the machine guns pointed at her head. Yeah, fully imprisoned people can’t just do that…it gets them shot. Anyway, a thematic flashback of fifteen years reveals that there may lie secrets in Noctis’ past relevant to the event of XV proper. They might not be, but it’d be pretty weird if they made a trailer for something that wasn’t important …

Final Fantasy XV and Type-0 HD Net Some New Screenshots

Though it’s been quite the wait for the not-so-Final franchise to receive its next addition, we’ve still got a ways to go until both XV and Type-0 HD hit the shelves and, subsequently, our consoles. In the meantime, Square Enix has released a few more screenshots to remind you that these titles look cool. This time around, we get to see Noctis jump into the thick of things and take on some generic soldier types, who I assume serve as the cannon fodder in this adventure. Seriously, henchmen need a union or something. Especially when they’re fighting against a Final Fantasy protagonist, and one who can teleport no less…or do a mid battle handstand. Shifting perspective a little, you might also wanna take a look at what Type-0 has to offer, namely images of students Eight, King and Sice (aka the coolest looking member of Class Zero). FF fans may also recognise some franchise regulars who may or may not be Ifrit, Shiva and Bahamut…they are…there’s nametags and everything. Final Fantasy XV Trailer Receives English Dub

That’s right friends, XV is still on the way. It’s been quite a while since we first saw vision of Noctis rolling around town in his chauffeured car and a lot has changed since then. Namely the titular number. Anyway, the last TGS revealed to us a new trailer featuring what may be the FF franchises first ever road trip, just a bunch of friends hanging out, fighting monsters and showing us all the environments that we will come across when we eventually play the game ourselves. Speaking of, Square Enix has just re-released said trailer with one noticeable difference; an English dub. So sit back and enjoy your first hint of what the cast will sound like throughout your next 50+ hour JRPG adventure. -30-
