Hats On To You – Super Mario Odyssey Reveals Game Mechanics

Since there is no conceivable rock under which one could live big enough to hid the fact that Mario exists, I’m going to move right into explaining the latest adventure that will soon grace our respective consoles. What with the Switch and all. With the eyes upon Mario’s classic headwear hiding a secret about as well as a glass pane, people have long suspected that Cappy (the cleverly/obviously named cap) would play a role larger than that of Mario’s portable platform mechanic. And those people were right. Apparently, accepting a magical hat as an ally grants one the ability to affix their consciousness to whatever so wear said hat next. In simple terms: Mario puts his hat on things and then becomes things. Which is as odd as it is cool. Ever wanted to be a Bullet Bill? A Goomba? Koopa? A random guy in the city? A taxi? I know I’ve never thought about it before, but now I certainly want all of those things. And if that didn’t sell you on this new …

Truce and Justice – Fire Emblem Warriors Reveals More Characters

I’m not going to waste too much of your time dissecting the formula that is the Warriors franchise. Lots of enemies. Crazy powers. Power fantasy. That’s pretty much it. And whilst that sounds pretty fun to most people who have ever held a controller, it is the skins laid over this formula that draws in the numbers. This time around, it’s Fire Emblem. Though we have known for some time that Falchion (and by extension its wielder) would grace this game with its legendary presence, details beyond have eluded us. “Have” being the operative word. Following the electronic extravaganza that is E3, we are now in the know when it comes to who shall fill out this game’s fine roster. Namely, Fire Emblem Fates shall be represented by Corrin, Xander and Ryoma. So, whether you played Awakening or Conquest, you’ve got one prince to put a smile on your dial and lovely lady Corrin to enjoy. Especially when she does that whole dragon thing she does. Thus, with a new list of old allies, a …

The Game is Afoot – Monster Hunter: World Announced

Monster Hunter. The test of character that has seen many a player give up quite early into their hunting careers. Which is totally understandable, given that some monsters are difficult and unfair and it is totally not a lack of player skill that leads to defeat after defeat after defeat…after defeat. But once those glitches are sorted out, and that bird wyvern goes down, a veritable paradise unfurls and now said paradise has spread its wings to consoles beyond Nintendo’s purview. In addition to the tried and true mechanics of the franchise, namely hunting monsters and using their parts to make weapons to hunt monsters and using their parts to hunt monsters and so on and so forth, the more powerful processing potential of the PC, PS4 and Xbox One opens up the greatest advancement in the Monster Hunter world ever: Reduced loading screens. With map areas still very much a part of the hunting ground layout, World promises to mitigate the segmented nature of this practice by removing loading screens. Though admittedly not too …

The Battle is Set!! – Dragon Ball FighterZ Announced

Like the World Martial Arts Tournaments that gave our heroes their first fighting aspirations, a new battle seeks to give the warriors of Dragon Ball their next fix. Maybe. I mean, I’m making a lot of assumptions on the game’s behalf. It’s a game by the way. A video game. A fighting video game. In the style of Guilty Gear and BlazBlue (also developed by Arc System Works, as this is to be), Dragon Ball FighterZ revolves around a 2D fighting system and character models that possess a distinctly anime feel. Of course, said feel is slightly outshone by the influx of lighting effects and beam attacks, that are impossible to ignore when they are utilised. The fact that it is also a 3v3 affair bolsters the chaotic nature of the clips shown, expressing a distinct learning curve all fighters must hike. Or not. I’ll admit, fighting games are not my forte. Still, FighterZ looks like a bundle of fun and any excuse to kick Freeza in his smug face is fine by me. -30-

E3 2016 – Nintendo Reveals New Action/Adventure IP “Ever Oasis”

For me, the most exciting news to come out of E3 is not additional information on titles the general public have already been aware of for quite some time, but reveals of brand-new video games that begin their illustrious development and release journey with the festivities of the expo as their starting point. It’s even more exhilarating when a big company like Nintendo partner up, once again, with a developer like Grezzo (The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time 3D, The Legend Of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D) to conceive and create a brand-new IP that will, hopefully, have the world enthralled. The new title, that I’m heavily referring to, is that of “Ever Oasis“; a action/adventure game that puts players in the small but strong being known as a Seedling, who is tasked with developing a beautiful Oasis out in the harsh desert landscape. With your partner Isuna at your side, you as the Seedling will have to traverse the blazing planes of the desert while recruiting new friends and aiding in the prosper of …

Straight From E3 2016 – Nintendo Reveals The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild

What do we know about Nintendo’s upcoming video game The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild? Well, we know that it’s been in development since 2013, and that we didn’t see anything of what it has to offer until 2014. We know that it was delayed three times, originally intended to be released in 2015 but now slated for release in 2017. We know that it will feature a new Link, who was a given to appear in this title, albeit in a form that we have never seen before. What’s funny is, until today, we had no idea what this game is called…that is, until Nintendo decided to release several videos of the new project, revealing it to be the game we now know as The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild. This new addition to the long line of The Legend Of Zelda titles looks as though it’s set to take players on a wild journey through a new and exciting land featuring game mechanics reminiscent of older titles in the …

Pokemon Sun and Moon E3 Trailer Reveals Pikipek, Yungoos, and Grubbin

Nintendo has hit the Electronics Entertainment Expo (E3) in a big way this year, as they have in previous years, with the reveal of not only a couple of brand-new video games but also by introducing the audience to three of the new Pokemon set to appear in their highly anticipated duo of games; Pokemon Sun and Moon. Revealed a week ago by the Japanese video game magazine CoroCoro were Nekkoala and Iwanko, the Koala and Poi Dog Pokemon, and thanks to the E3 trailer for Sun and Moon the world has been introduced to three more; Pikipek, Yungoos, and Grubbin. Pikipek: Category: Woodpecker Pokémon Type: Normal/Flying Height: 1’00″ Weight: 2.6 lbs. Ability: Keen Eye / Skill Link Pikipek can strike 16 times a second with its beak. These strikes are powerful enough to not only drill through hard wood but even shatter stone. The noises made by their blows can signal others. Some of these signals have been identified as warning signals and greetings among allies. Pikipek Trainers have grown to recognize them as well. These Pokémon drill holes in …

Get Tangled Up In The New Trailer For Kingdom Hearts III Courtesy Of E3 2015

Now I have to start off this article in a purely honest manner: I’m not that big a fan of Disney and I’m not that big a fan of Final Fantasy, so a video game series like Kingdom Hearts, as you’d imagine, isn’t necessarily on my radar for things to look out for…still, I am a man who prides himself on giving credit when credit is indeed due, and the newest trailer for Kingdom Hearts III just released at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo, well…it’s genuinely made me second guess my likes and dislikes entirely. Fans have been on Square Enix’s back for quite some time about most things the fine company produces and releases. Most notably are these two titles; Final Fantasy VII and Kingdom Hearts III. Why is that? Well, in FFVII’s case, it’s a game that most, if not all, people want to be able to experience. Most people, me being one of them, do not have what it takes to go back and play the original, but if there was perhaps a remake…then …

A Legend Retold – Final Fantasy VII Remake Confirmed for PS4

That’s right Final Fanatics, it’s happening. No longer the pipe dream that has been dreamt for years, no longer a fervant wish held by those whose childhoods were forever marked by a villain with a sword matched only in length by his hair. Final Fantasy VII is coming back. And it’s coming back hard. At Sony’s E3 press conference, a brief trailer made countless fans day by showing us Midgar in a completely new light…and graphics engine. With a rather meta narration, said trailer promised the retelling of a legend, the re-presentation of a story well known and loved the world over. With the Buster Sword making a brief appearance, strapped to a very familiar back, the hype meter is ready to boil to all new heights. So…there’s not much else to say is there? The remake is coming people. The long wanted, long hypothesised remake is coming. I’m sure as heck looking forward to it. I’m looking forward to the wait a lot less, but that’s the price we pay for information. -30-

Another Mighty Project – Keiji Inafune Teams Up with Microsoft

The man behind one of gaming’s most memorable blue characters has been on people’s minds lately with the promise of the release of Mighty No. 9 drawing ever closer. However, at Microsoft’s E3 press conference, it was made known that Inafune and the people at Comcept are setting up to present the world with another new title; ReCore. In conjunction with Armature Studio, Comcept will develop the game as a Xbox One exclusive title, hence the reveal at the Microsoft press conference. Though no gameplay was shown, nor any concrete plot given, the title seems to focus  on the titular core items. Given the thematic trailer, ReCore may possess some sort of AI allies, able to take a multitude of forms. Whether or not these forms are story locked or acquired by choice is unknown, as is any other confirmed information. Set for Spring of 2016, information is sure to fill in the space between then and now, so keep an eye out. Until then, enjoy the trailer and ponder whether it’s cooler to have a …

The Torment Returns – Dark Souls III Announced

Dark Souls, the most beloved game that purposely strives to challenge players to the point of infuriation. For those who struggle onwards, renown for actually besting the bosses awaits. For everyone else…mostly rage and sadness lie in the future. Yet despite this schism of players, the franchise remains strong. Strong enough that yet another adventure into the land of dead, undead and re-dead foes has been announced. That’s right folks, at the news behemoth that is E3, From Software revealed their trailer for the upcoming Dark Souls III. Presented with the tagline “…now only embers remain”, the game looks to promise more of the grim, horror filled landscape players have come to love…at least the Dark Souls interpretation of love. Set for an ambiguous release in Early 2016, news is bound to present itself as we progress through the year. Until then, venture forth in classic Dark Souls style; uncertain, trepidatious, excited and vastly unprepared. Gaming is fun isn’t it? -30-

Next Wave Of Amiibo Announced – R.O.B, Duck Hunt Duo, Falco, Game & Watch, Mii Fighters and Others

NOT announced through Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros. livestream event which ended a few hours ago but announced none the less are a new wave of Amiibo for the crossover brawler that are set to hit shelves this September. Nintendo’s Amiibo have quickly become some of the most sought-after pieces of video game merchandise/peripherals in modern times and, as a man who collects them, I can absolutely see why. If you don’t know what the Amiibo are, well…maybe you’ve been living in complete solitude for a while. They’re these awesome little figurines based on characters from some of Nintendo’s newer titles like Super Smash Bros., Mario Party 10, and Splatoon. Like Skylanders or Disney Infinity, once purchased, these can interact with certain games and unlock new things like costumes, stages, etc. Nintendo have announced the next wave of these interactable figures ahead of E3 and the list is actually pretty great: Alongside the likes of R.O.B., The Duck Hunt Duo, Mr. Game & Watch, and Falco who’re all shown above are a set of three Amiibo …

Nintendo Of Europe Accidentally Reveals Animal Crossing And 8-Bit Mario Amiibo

The boys and girls over at Nintendo have messed up once again with the European branch of the company accidentally revealing their new range of Amiibo earlier than they were supposed to. Over night, the Nintendo of Europe posted a promotional image on their website depicting some of the newer Amiibo like the ones from Splatoon and those from the new Mario Party 10. Alongside the already-released Amiibo were a few others that have yet to be officially announced but, thanks to whoever posted this early, we now know will be coming our way in the near future. Tom Nook, Isabelle, Mabel and K.K. Slider from the highly popular Animal Crossing will all be getting their very own Amiibo alongside yet another Mario figure who this time will appear in his original 8-bit glory. Nintendo have not made an official statement about this early announcement nor have they divulged any information regarding release date but you can be sure to hear some more about them as soon as E3 officially begins which is only a …

Looking for a Challenge – Roy and Ryu Officially Join the Super Smash Bros. Roster

Though I’m sure you’ve all heard the news that everyone’s boy Roy, along with newcomer Ryu, were set to join in the cross franchise chaos of Super Smash Bros., said news has now been unequivocally 100% most certainly confirmed. Without a doubt…it’s happening…I think you get the picture. In their special Smash Bros. only E3 press video, Nintendo showcased just how these fighters will dispense their own unique brands of justice against those who are unfortunate enough to cross them. Harkening back to his former move set, Roy will bring some explosive swordsmanship into the fray, bearing similarities to his fellow Fire Emblem representatives. That being said, Roy has apparently spent his days in exile training, bringing with him an increase in power that is sizeable enough for Nintendo to mention…so I’d keep an eye out in battle.  It was also specifically stated that Roy’s sword carries more power towards the base of the blade, so you’ll need to get up close and personal to really deal out the pain. Final Smash wise, Roy brings …

Some Wars Never End – Transformers: Devastation Revealed, Developed By PlatinumGames

It’s the most wonderful time of the year; that period just before the beginning of the Electronic Entertainment Expo wherein which video gaming fans are treated to some tasty news leaks before their scheduled reveals. It has already been revealed that Street Fighter’s Ryu and Fire Emblem’s Roy will be joining the already sizeable Super Smash Bros. roster thanks to an early update released in Japan, and now Best Buy Canada have spilled the beans a little early regarding a brand-new Transformers video game developed by Osaka’s PlatinumGames and set to be published by the very much unloved…Activision. Unconfirmed by neither PlatinumGames nor Activision, this game was placed on Best Buy Canada’s online store as a game up for pre-order. People are speculating that this was one of the “big reveals” supposedly saved for the E3 festivities but are already very much underwhelmed by the fact that it is just another Transformers title. Not only that but after seeing the way in which Activision and PlatinumGames came together for The Legend Of Korra game, video …

Leaked Videos Confirm Roy And Ryu As Upcoming Playable Characters In Super Smash Bros. For Wii U And 3DS

The Electronic Entertainment Expo, also known as E3, is coming up and with the large event comes a whole bunch of exciting video game news from across the board. Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, they all bring their best to the yearly exhibition which means they usually save the very best news to release it when the whole gaming world is watching, but no company is safe from leaks and the general gaming audience loves it when a huge piece of news drops before scheduled time. Two short videos have now begun circulating the web which show both Ryu from Capcom’s incredibly popular fighting series Street Fighter and Roy from Intelligent Systems‘ famed RPG Fire Emblem going head-to-head with the already sizeable cast of the new Super Smash Bros. title which has been available for the Nintendo Wii U and 3DS for quite some time. These videos have come about thanks to the early release of the game’s next big update which has now been made available in Japan…not on purpose, of course. As with any added content, the …
