Appetite for Destruction – Dragon Ball FighterZ – Humble Opinions

As the old adage so delicately puts it: Dragon! Dragon! Rock The Dragon! Dragon Ball Z! As true now as it was back then, this infallible selection of 90’s lyrics goes to show the true artistry that lies at the core of Akira Toriyama’s famed creation. Of course, a true creator never remains content for long and the various people who have added their input to this franchise have created many a variation on the formula that is Dragon Ball Z. This time around, it’s Arc System Works’ turn and they have most certainly put their spin on the seven magic balls that we have all sought since we were young. Which is totally fine because you can see the stars no matter what angle you look at them, thanks to the magic way they were made and…I’ll just move onto the topic at hand. Dragon Ball FighterZ, the game that every fan wanted when they saw the artwork way back when and have only now figured out how to pronounce (like the word “fighters”). …

Hero Tolerance – Lost in Mistranslation Episode 112

It must be tough being a superhero. All that pressure. All those expectations. To live up to an impossible standard and never once falter. That must be why they changed the requirements to simply: Beat the bad guy. Nowadays, a hero can level an entire city as long as a villain gets their comeuppance. Bonus points if said comeuppance includes a very violent impression of an owl. -30-

The Battle is Set!! – Dragon Ball FighterZ Announced

Like the World Martial Arts Tournaments that gave our heroes their first fighting aspirations, a new battle seeks to give the warriors of Dragon Ball their next fix. Maybe. I mean, I’m making a lot of assumptions on the game’s behalf. It’s a game by the way. A video game. A fighting video game. In the style of Guilty Gear and BlazBlue (also developed by Arc System Works, as this is to be), Dragon Ball FighterZ revolves around a 2D fighting system and character models that possess a distinctly anime feel. Of course, said feel is slightly outshone by the influx of lighting effects and beam attacks, that are impossible to ignore when they are utilised. The fact that it is also a 3v3 affair bolsters the chaotic nature of the clips shown, expressing a distinct learning curve all fighters must hike. Or not. I’ll admit, fighting games are not my forte. Still, FighterZ looks like a bundle of fun and any excuse to kick Freeza in his smug face is fine by me. -30-

Dragon Ball Fusions – Review

Since the concept of fusions first entered the Dragon Ball Z canon, fans have pondered one simple question: What if? What if, instead of Vegeta, it was Gohan who combined with Goku? What if permanent fusions were actually so? What if the Z fighters decided to mix and match and create a plethora of new combo fighters? Unfortunately for fans however, these musings were relegated to the realm of fan fiction, fan art and general friendly discussions…”were” being the operative word. Yes friends, no more must these ideas lie in the minds of the populace, for now there is an outlet for insanity, a vessel for nonsense, a game cartridge that houses far more what ifs, how coulds and why nots than most though possible; Dragon Ball Fusions. Somewhere on the mystical planet of Earth, or at least the Dragon Ball equivalent of said planet, two impetuous youths decide to test their mettle against the greatest fighters in the world. Naturally this means Shenron is in order, and both Pinich and (insert customisable main character …

Yamcha Is The World’s Strongest Fighter In This New Dragon Ball Spin-Off

The problem with most people of this day and age is that they only remember the bad times as they disregard the good. Yamcha, whom you should all be very much aware of, is the butt of an endless stream of jokes with many considering him to be, perhaps, the most useless characters to ever grace the pages of Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball Z Manga and it’s Anime adaptation. That, for the most part, is a fair point…ONLY if you’re considering Dragon Ball Z. You see, Yamcha was once quite the force to be reckoned with during the days of Dragon Ball, but time has forgotten that, and he is now only known as little more than a failure of a fighter. He WAS, for a short while, the star player of a baseball team, but that was overshadowed by, well…Goku’s constant battle against world-ending evil. Fear not, fans of Yamcha! Shonen Jump Plus, a digital Manga run by Shueisha so far only available across Japan, has begun featuring a brand-new Manga based upon Akira …

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 – Review

Sometimes, no matter how hard you wish, the past cannot be changed. Always actually, on account of the real world not possessing means of time travel…yet. But what would you do if you could travel the other way down a one way street? If you could freely traverse the realm of tics and tocs and alter that which has already happened? Would you mix things up in your own life and set mistakes right? Or would you work on a grander scale and try to fix the world? Though perhaps the better question is; could you live with the consequences of your alterations? Unless, of course, you just went back and fixed your fix…because time travel. Welcome to Canton City, a wonderful, magical place that makes Toki Toki City look like a smaller, less populated hub world by comparison. Standing as the brand new headquarters of the Time Patrol because why the HFIL not, Canton contains a few memorable locales that you DBZ aficionados may just recognise. Of course, if you’re more interested in fictional …

Coming In Fast! Dragon Ball Fusions To Be Released One Month Early

I’m hard pressed to think of something more exciting than the early release of a much-anticipated video game. Bandai Namco truly know what gets people going, and it’s at times like these that we are reminded of how lucky we truly are. The upcoming Nintendo 3DS game, Dragon Ball Fusions, was set for a release on the 13th of December and has been that way since it was revealed, but Bandai Namco Entertainment have decided that waiting until the very end of the year to release this exciting title simply isn’t on. Instead, they will be releasing Dragon Ball Fusions across North America a month early, now being made available on the 22nd of November! While our friends living over in the United States are lucky to land this one early, us living in Europe and it’s attached regions will have to wait until the February of 2017 to get our hands on it, but my hopes are that Bandai Namco Entertainment decide to speed up the release of Fusions outside of the USA as well. …

Dragon Ball Fusions Confirmed For Western Release In February 2017

Reader, you’re very much aware of this particular video game, right? Us at SnapThirty have been following it ever since it was announced for Japan, and we’ve been hoping for a Western release ever since. Dragon Ball is one of the most popular Anime of all time in Western regions so most games based on the much-loved series does indeed make it to local shores, but when we’re talking about a strange game like Dragon Ball Fusions it’s always hard to determine whether or not the same can be said for it. If you’re not aware of this game; basically it’s an RPG set in the world of Dragon Ball, with a strong emphasis on “Fusion“, meaning that most characters you will be able to encounter and recruit throughout the story can be fused together. Exciting, right? Heck yeah, it is! Bandai Namco Entertainment, being such a great company, have done us Western Dragon Ball fans a huge favour by today announcing that they will be localising Dragon Ball Fusions and releasing it in Europe, …

One Piece: Grand Pirate Colosseum and DBZ: Extreme Butoden Go Head-To-Head In Crossover Update

Because it was actually released outside of Japan, many people living in the West would have, at least, seen the Nintendo 3DS exclusive Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butoden. It’s a fighting game developed by Arc System Works that is very much reminiscent of older Dragon Ball Z handheld titles. Well something you may not be entirely aware of is the existence of another Arc System Works fighting game based on another Shonen Jump staple of equal popularity; One Piece. This game, which is so far unreleased even in Japan, is titled One Piece: Grand Pirate Colosseum and features a similar gameplay design to that of Extreme Butoden. This game is also an exclusive for the Nintendo 3DS. Bandai Namco Entertainment Japan have recently revealed that, sometime in November, Arc System Works is set to release a free update for both games that will allow them to interact in huge ways. How huge? Well, huge enough that you will be able to cross-title battle, meaning Goku can go up against Luffy, Vegeta against Zolo, Piccolo against …

Pop Culture Shock – Experiencing Sydney’s Supanova Pop Culture Expo 2016

The travelling Pop Culture Convention Supanova has been congregating likeminded audiences from across Australia since 2002, and since then this meeting of the fandoms has only gotten more and more extensive, changing to occupy the ever-growing crowds which, in this day and age, have never been more dense in number. We’re now living in an age wherein which being a “nerd” is no longer a title only designated to those with a penchant for science-fiction and higher level learning, as the stereotype incorrectly suggests, but to anyone willing to purchase a full-price ticket to the latest Avengers film. Many see this as a negative, but few look to this cultural change as a step forward in humankind’s ability to accept and understand, and Supanova 2016’s numbers alone make this quite obvious. Regardless of one’s reasons for attending – be they to purchase the latest Funko Pop! Vinyl figurines or to meet, albeit briefly, a pop culture icon that you find particularly awe-inspiring – hordes of dedicated fans will battle the seasonal Sydney wet weather year …

First Combo Characters Revealed For Upcoming 3DS Game Dragon Ball: Fusions

The last time I wrote a news piece regarding this particular video game, it’s official name hadn’t even been revealed. All we knew about it is that it happened to be a Dragon Ball video game for the Nintendo 3DS that revolved around the varying fusions of many characters. With the announcement of the game came an interested piece of promotional art that showed series protagonist Goku partaking in the Fusion Dance with sworn enemy Broly, who happens to be one of my favorite characters. Bandai Namco Entertainment have revealed more about the game in the latest issue of V-Jump magazine that not only shows the product of Goku and Broly’s fusion, but also a few others, each of which happen to be a combination featuring Krillin…of all characters. Starting off; it has been revealed that you will be able to create and customise your very own character, choosing from five different races much in the same vein as the previously released Dragon Ball: Xenoverse. The races are as follows; Namekian, Spirit Worldian (Majins and …

Dragon Ball: Project Fusion’s List Of Fusible Characters Is…Endless?!

About a week or so ago, I wrote an article regarding an upcoming Dragon Ball Nintendo 3DS title from the lovely people over at Bandai Namco Entertainment that boasted a gameplay experience unlike any other Dragon Ball title we’ve ever seen. The game is called Dragon Ball: Project Fusion and is aparantly an RPG title that allows you to fuse a whole bunch of alternative Dragon Ball characters, instead of the standard Goten/Trunks, Goku/Vegeta combinations. Now the latest issue of V-Jump magazine has been released over in Japan, and with it comes more information regarding the upcoming game. From what we’re lead to believe by the double-page spread featured in the popular magazine; the fusion possibilities for the upcoming game are…infinite. It goes without saying, but Dragon Ball: Project Fusion will not feature an infinite amount of fusion characters, there simply aren’t enough characters in the series, nor is there the storage capabilities to properly host all of them on a Nintendo 3DS game cartridge, as well as countless other things that only work against …

Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butoden – Review

If there’s one thing that’s synonymous with Dragon Ball Z, it’s blue and orange…I mean fighting. It’s fighting…whilst wearing blue and orange that is slowly destroyed over the course of said fight. You know things are galaxy threatening when your hero is soaring into combat wearing only tattered Hammer pants. But I digress. With a story spanning more than it’s fair share of years, DB has plenty of canon to draw from, bringing forth a fighting game of varied roster…kind of. For those unaware, Extreme Butoden is a 3DS installment in the DBZ franchise. Though handheld games have excelled in leaps and bounds over the past few years, they still lag behind their less portable companions. This particular Z combat simulator takes a side on, 2D perspective, a la your traditional fighting games. Though far from a revolutionary decision, it is a sound one, with the style fitting well onto the 3DS screens. In addition to allowing combat to remain manageably simple, this viewpoint allows the character sprites ample space to shine, and shine they do. …

Prematurely Rock The Dragon – Pre-Launch Trailer For Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butoden Released

Bandai Namco Entertainment hopes you’re all ready to play a damn good Dragon Ball Z fighting game the likes of which we havn’t seen on a handheld title for quite some time. As you probably already know; Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butoden is about to be released around the world for the Nintendo 3DS. For us living in what is considered to be European regions, we’ll be getting the game on the 16th, but if you’re living in North America and surrounding area…you’ll have to wait until the 20th. Sorry, everyone. That’s okay though! Because Bandai Namco Entertainment have given the whole world the ability to prematurely rock the dragon with their latest trailer for the upcoming game being released only briefly before that of the video game. The new trailer pretty much goes over all the features of the game that we’ve come to know and love by this point in time but that doesn’t make it any less exciting, in fact, it works brilliantly to remind us all of why we should be overly …

The Attendees of SMASH! 2015 – Cosplay Compilation

The cosplay community is a large, thriving collection of incredibly dedicated and hard-working fans of pop culture. Preparing months (sometimes even years) in advanced, these men and women put countless hours into constructing costumes modelled after their favorite characters from the world of pop culture, but…come on, you know this already, right? Cosplay has been around for many, many years. It’s so popular in the modern age that I honestly cannot imagine it ever dulling in popularity…nor should it. At every pop culture convention, one of the more amazing sights is that of a crowd of cosplayers not only enjoying their own costumes but the costumes of others and the convention itself. When it comes to prime cosplayers, it seems as though SMASH! truly is the place to be. Each and every year the quality of cosplay you see on the show grounds continues to grow ever higher, with those living the dedicated cosplay lifestyle continuing to develop as craftsmen and craftswomen. SMASH! 2015 was no different. Each and every cosplayer present put clear effort into their …

Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection ‘F’ Review

Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection ‘F’ is the latest feature film of the eternally popular Dragon Ball Z franchise and if this blockbuster release is any indication, then this franchise is nowhere near to losing any steam, and creator, Akira Toriyama, is still laughing on his way to the bank. The great thing about the Dragon Ball universe is that anything and everything can happen, and no matter what happens it’s always plausible and it always fits into the lore and continuity. The glue and pillar that holds the insurmountable mass of ethos together lies within the title itself: Dragon Ball. The seven mythical orbs, upon being assembled, summon the Eternal Dragon that is Shenron, who can make anything happen. This franchise was clearly planned ahead, and the 7 Dragon Balls are the ultimate foolproof contingency plan that can repair any plot hole. No other anime franchise can hold itself strongly with such simplicity quite like Dragon Ball. Honestly, that’s the endearing appeal of the franchise in general… it’s sheer simplicity which allows its audience to …

Rise Again – Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection ‘F’ Hits ANZ in August

So Dragon Ball Z is about as anime as you can get. For a whole generation, myself included, it was the series that introduced Japanese animation before anyone knew cartoons all didn’t come from some mysterious realm, that seeped into our world through a portal dubbed Cheez TV (props to exclusively Australian references am I right?). So I was an imaginative kid, sue me. But before my insecurities drive you away from the point at hand, which I promise you exists, let me digress and bring the news. If you have even an ancillary insight into the world of anime, then you’ve most certainly heard of Dragon Ball Z. You’ve most certainly heard of the Battle of Gods film that brought the Z fighters back to the big screen. Following this pattern of logic, I’m sure you’ve heard of Resurrection ‘F’, the latest instalment in the much beloved franchise that brings with it the return of on of anime’s most iconic faces. Hint: It’s the one with the giant purple scalp that’s made of, like, organic …

J-Stars Victory Vs+ – PlayStation 4 Review

Have you ever thought about the ramifications of Goku’s Kamehameha going up against Yusuke Urameshi’s Spirit Gun? When two unstoppable forces collide, the destruction caused by it is immense. Now think, what if a powerhouse like Naruto Uzumaki went head-to-head with a speed demon like Ichigo Kurosaki. Which would win; Uzumaki’s Rasengan of Kurosaki’s Getsuga Tensho? Disregarding the millions of dollars worth of collateral damage, who would come out on top? Questions like this are constantly thrown across tables of like-minded pop culture fans all discussing their favorite characters from their favorite pieces of media, each with their own theories regarding who would best who in combat. Usually those questions can never be answer, but it is with the release of crossover fighting titles like J-Stars Victory Vs+ that it all becomes just a little bit clearer. Not since the Japan-only Nintendo DS title Jump Ultimate Stars have we seen this many Shonen Jump heroes and villains come together to throw down in the combined arena. Ever since it was announced for a Japanese release, Western …

Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butoden – European 3DS Bundle Announced

We Europeans are a lucky bunch! Sure, I live in Australia and it’s not technically Europe but we tend to get a lot of the same things as the great continent so when I see video game news pertaining to it I automatically include us Aussies! Bandai Namco Entertainment’s European branch have today revealed a fantastic Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butoden bundle for Europe that’ll send you Euro Dragon Ball Z fanatics up the proverbial wall. What’s better than the release of an Arc System Works-made Dragon Ball Z title that throws back to older video games yet still has enough meat on it’s bones to keep you playing for hours on end? How about a version that also happens to come with it’s very own Dragon Ball Z-theme Nintendo 3DS? Yeah, that’s much better! Actually, you may have to flip that around: Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe have announced a special edition DBZ-themed Nintendo 3DS that is set to be released on the 16th of October; the same day as the game’s solo release. This …

Stand By for Dragon Ball Z – Extreme Butoden Announced for Australia and New Zealand

If a new anime series wasn’t enough for you, it would seem that a new Dragon Ball game is on the horizon. Well, new for us in Australia and New Zealand at least, Japan has had it for a while now. Licencing aside, get ready for Dragon Ball Z Extreme Butoden. Developed by Arc System Works, Butoden present the latest instalment in the overarching franchise that is DBZ fighting games.  That being said, not all (or any) of these previous entries were designed for the Nintendo 3DS. Butoden however, is. So yeah, happy news if your carrying a 3DS and a need to punch Frieza in the face. The playable character roster rounds of at 20, whilst the support cast runs up over 100. So chances are you’ll see your favourites take to the dual screen. On this ANZ release, Herve Hoerdt (Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe Vice President of Marketing & Digital) said: “Following the success of Dragon Ball Xenoverse, we wanted to keep on bringing awesomeness to our fans and make them as happy …

Eighteen Years In The Making – Dragon Ball Super’s First Teaser Trailer Finally Released

Surely by now you know that the immeasurably popular Shonen series Dragon Ball Z is returning with a brand-new Anime season that follows on from where the original left off, right? That’s something I feel every good Anime fan should know, at least at this point in time. Well during Fuji TV’s broadcast of the latest Dragon Ball Kai episode over in Japan a quick teaser trailer for the upcoming Anime series was shown. That short video was recorded by some very smart citizens of the world and shared online for the rest of us to see. As mentioned; the new Anime will follow the original crew of Dragon Ball Z and their equally as powerful offspring as they do whatever it is that they do. Really we don’t know much about the storyline of this new Anime season but the trailer does indeed feature Beerus and his friendly assistant Whis so the assumption is that they will feature throughout the story. Honestly barely anything has been divulged in regards to the more detailed specifics …

Power Meal – DBZ’s Vegeta Appears In New Commercial For Cup Noodles

Japan produces it’s fair share of weird stuff. In fact, I’d go as far as to say that they produce the weirdest crap the world has ever and will ever see. Japan saw the birth of a SchickXEvangelion collaboration that has lasted for years. Only in Japan do shaving products and an alien armageddon come together so gracefully. With this in mind, there’s absolutely no way you can deny Japan’s tendency to come up with some insane promotional campaigns. In comparison to what I’ve just detailed, the commercial I’m about to introduce is actually somewhat tame…but still so damn funny! We all love Dragon Ball Z, fact. Even those who aren’t really into Dragon Ball Z still love Dragon Ball Z. Yeah, my words are inconsostent but that doesn’t make them any less true! Dragon Ball Z breaks all kinds of mental and physical boundaries so ny crazy writinf is fine. Well Cup Noodles, the well-known brand of…cup noodles, recently released a commercial for it’s brand-new flavour which just so happens to be…Vegeta. Yep, it’s …

Madman Entertainment Releases English-Subtitled Dragon Ball Z Resurrection F Trailer

Australian audiences have only ever really been subjected to the English dub of Dragon Ball Z. As young ones we’d wake up early, grab ourselves a bowl of Wheat Bix, start getting ready for school, only to then get distracted by the tasty sounds of a guitar lick follower by the lyrics; “dragon, dragon, rock the dragon“, it was what we lived for at the time! In fact, to a certain degree, it’s what I still live for now. Madman Entertainment, one of Australia’s leading Anime and Manga publishers, has always had the distribution license for the great series “down under” and recently it was announced that they will be bringing the film down to Australia and New Zealand for a limited theatrical release. Well to build the hype for what’s to come, Madman have today released an English-Subtitled trailer for the film that’ll surely get all you Aussies ready to rock the dragon something fierce. I’m sure the rest of the world will enjoy it but seeing as I’m an Australian citizen…I’m kind of …

Bandai Namco Reveals Contents Of Dragon Ball: XenoVerse DLC Pack Three

We live in the age of download content. This is what being a gamer in modern times is like; we purchase a video game for full price then, over time, the developers continue working on it to then release DLC pack after DLC pack until you’ve spend just about as much money on digital content as you did on the game itself. Some companies really go above and beyond when it comes to add-on content, were looking at you Capcom, and others like Bandai Namco Games do only what is necessary. When it comes to the third DLC pack of Bandai Namco’s latest Dragon Ball Z title XenoVerse, it is the release of a new movie titled Resurrection F that justifies this new addition to an already very much content populated game. Much like the previous two DLC pack, the third will feature some new playable characters, stages, missions and Masters but unlike the previous two…this one also features blue-haired Saiyans. Super Saiyan God SS Goku, Super Saiyan God SS Vegeta, Golden Frieza and Jaco …

Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F Hits Australian Cinemas This Winter

Frieza is gold now and Goku has shiny blue hair! Is this even Dragon Ball Z anymore? Yeah, you’re damn right it is, and it rocks ultimate! Anime and Manga fans, whther or not they’ve seen the series, one hundred percent know what Dragon Ball Z is. This I can guarantee. Why? Because it’s simply one of the most popular series’ of all time alongside ones like Sailor Moon and Pokemon. Now what do those three things have in common? Well, even people who aren’t into Japanese pop culture know what they are. We call that universal value, at least…I do. Now this long-running series has had its fair share of episodes and it’s fair share of movies but the powers at be and Akira Toriyama (the creator of the series) himself feel as though there’s always room for more. That is why the new movie Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F has been made and already released across Japan. Madman Entertainment, one of Australia’s leading Anime and Manga publishers, thinks that Japanese audiences aren’t the only …

Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection Of F – Goku’s New Super Saiyan God Form Revealed

The latest “Dragon Ball Z” film “Battle Of Gods” probably made you all think that the highest level a Saiyan could acheive is that of a Super Saiyan God. I know it made me think that, so why wouldn’t it be the same for everyone else who watched it? Here we are, thinking that there’s no possible way Goku could get any stronger than he already is. As it turns out…we are very much mistaken. The latest issue of Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump over in Japan has revealed that Frieza wont be the only “Dragon Ball Z” character to get a colour change in the upcoming feature film “Resurrection Of F”. Oh no no! Now that Frieza is a Golden God, it means that Goku has to get stronger to be able to match him. Allow me to introduce you to the most redundant power up name to ever come from the “Dragon Ball” series, Goku’s new form; the “Super Saiyan God SS”. The “SS” obviously standing for Super Saiyan…meaning that the full name of …

J-Stars Victory Vs + – Official English Website Now Live

We’re all very excited for the Western release of “J-Stars Victory Vs +”; it’s the game Anime fans the world over have been waiting for since the last Shonen crossover title “Jump Ultimate Stars” and even THAT never made it to local shores so you can probably imagine the high level of excitement long-time fans of “Naruto”, “Bleach”, “Dragon ball Z” and so many other series’ are. Well today Bandai namco games officially opened up the English website for the upcoming game and even though it going live didn’t come with some sort of specific release date for the game it did come with a trifecta of gameplay videos that, once again, show off some of your favorite heroes in action. Of the three videos released; one shows the legendary battle between Frieza and Goku from “Dragon Ball Z”, another shows an odd but aggressively awesome bout between Oga from “Beelzebub” and Taro Yamada from “Chinyuki”, and the final shows a smaller scale battle between Arale Norimake from “Dr. Slump” and Lucky Man from the …

Dragon Ball XenoVerse Review

The good guys have won. Evil is vanquished and the citizens of the globe can return to an era of peace and tranquility. Unless of course a villain were to, oh I don’t know, travel throughout time and systematically erase our heroes’ victories from existence. That, my friends, would be a very bad day for justice. One we couldn’t stop… But what’s this? A mysterious warrior, born from a wish and empowered by a desire to see the new wrongs of the past rewritten, back to the story they love. That’s right, it’s us. The customisable, multi-existence that is the Dragon Ball Z fanbase, one that now has an avatar into the series. Summoned forth by Trunks himself, we are the newest recruit in the Time Patrol, a group of inter-chrono do-gooders who make sure history happens the way it should. Thus, we set forth to quash a divergent timeline in which Raditz survived, rid history of a Ginyu Force led by Vegeta of all people and even take on an angrier version of Buu…because …

New ‘Dragon Ball Z’ Movie Revives Most Evil Person Ever, Also They Are Gold Now

Cha-la head is gold-la, cha-la Frieza’s evil-la. That’s right Dragon Ball maniacs, the Z Fighters are back in action with the latest Dragon Ball Z movie, Dragon Ball Z: Revival of F (the F referring to Frieza, not to be confused with my younger, stronger, cooler and better Dragon Ball Xenoverse character FROZED). This movie is particularly of note due to the fact that the most evil villain ever in Dragon Ball is revived by the Dragon Balls and this time this isn’t even Frieza’s final form. In fact, Frieza got gold now. The movie is set to hit Japanese theaters next month and will feature the long awaited return of Frieza as Goku and friends must battle it out in the final ultimate clash in Dragon Ball history, until Dragon Ball GT happened and they had that fight with Android 17 again. Also I heard that Dragon Ball AF is happening soon, trust me my friend told me that his cousin’s uncle works at Toei Animation and knows Akira Toriyama the creator of Dragon …

Dragon Ball Z: Super Extreme Butoden Announced For The Nintendo 3DS

In my humble opinion; the more contemporary handheld consoles like the PlayStation Vita and the Nintendo 3DS don’t get as much “Dragon Ball Z” love as they should. Yes, it’s true, “Dragon Ball Z” games for the 3DS over in Japan aren’t as “rare” as I made them sound but they don’t necessarily get as much publicity as those that get a release on bigger consoles like the PlayStation 3, 4, the Xbox One and the 360. This is always a huge disappointment for people like me who love handheld gaming and want to see the titles released specifically for the consoles shine. This is why I’m very excited about the upcoming Nintendo 3DS fighting game “Dragon Ball Z: Super Extreme Butoden” which has only just been announced through the latest issue of V-Jump. Boasting a roster of one hundred plus characters, I have a feeling deep in my gut that this will be the game to break the localisation barrier and get a release the world over. Why? Not only does it resemble older “DBZ” …

Surely by now you know that Bandai Namco Games’ upcoming fighting title “Dragon Ball Xenoverse” is so close to being released, but do you really think you’re ready for it? Bandai Namco says; regardless if you are or are not, they want you to be as prepared as possible for what is looking to be the best “Dragon Ball” video game to date. With a whole new storyline written specifically for the game, some incredible visuals developed for next generation consoles, and a cast of fan favorites making a return, it’s hard to look past “Xenoverse”. Chances are, if you’re an Anime fan, you WILL be getting this game, BUT there are still some of you out there who aren’t quite convinced. Well that’s about to change thanks to the newest trailer that has just been released because, at a whopping six minutes long, it will show you everything you can expect to experience in the game, and if that doesn’t win you over then I just don’t know what will. Getting a release on the 27th …

Latest Dragon Ball Xenoverse Trailers Shows How Raditz Could Have Survived The Special Beam Cannon

We all remember the first time Goku died in “Dragon Ball Z”, right? It happened almost as soon as he met his Saiyan brother and it was dealt to him by former enemy Piccolo. Goku locked his brother into a sturdy grapple and the green man fired a spiralling laser through both of the monkey men’s chests. Yeah, yeah, everyone remembers this. Do you remember every thinking to yourself; “Surely Raditz could have gotten out of that”? Because I do, and it has plagued me for years. From what I can remember, there was a lot of his body that Goku hadn’t locked up which surely could have been utilised to, you know…escape death. Well Bandai Namco Games Japan have released a brand-new trailer for their upcoming fighting title “Dragon Ball Xenoverse” that shows just how Raditz could have survived the dynamic duo’s team up and, well…it looks like he did it with ease. The video is meant to be showing off how “Dragon Ball” history is being altered in the story of the new …

Dragon Ball Xenoverse – Release Date Pushed Back Only Slightly

“Dragon Ball Xenoverse” seems as though it’s going to be the “DBZ” video game to end all “DBZ” video games. Not only is it the first of the series to be released on next/current generation consoles but it’s also the first that allows you, the player, to actively affect the flow of time in the “Dragon Ball” universe. People are pretty damn excited but now, thanks to the latest news from Bandai Namco Games, people are a tiny bit less excited. The juggernaut video game publisher/developer, over the weekend, released some information regarding the release date of the new title and, well…it’s been pushed back a whole entire week. A whole entire week! It was originally going to be released in North America on the 17th of February but it will now be on the 27th, the same day as it will be getting a release on Steam. For Europe, instead of the 13th it will now be released on the 27th, the same day as North America. Really…it doesn’t matter too much because it’s …

“Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection Of F” To Feature Punk Song “F” By Maximum The Hormone

The title of this article alone has gotten me more excited for the upcoming “Dragon Ball Z” movie than any piece of pre-release media ever could. Have you heard of the Japanese heavy punk band Maximum The Hormone? Maybe you have; one of their songs titled “What’s Up People” featured as the second “Death Note” Anime opening. Yeah! You know that odd but catchy metal-type song of which you have no idea what the singer is actually singing? THAT’S Maximum The Hormone and, like any other band in existence, they have more than just the single song. Of their extensive catalogue of toxic punk-style tunes, one of them is set to feature in the upcoming “Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection Of F” movie during what I assume will be one hell of an awesome fight scene. The song is called “F” and, in fact, was made with the “DBZ” enemy Frieza in mind. This makes the song quite fitting for the movie seeing as it focuses on Frieza’s return. In fact, Akira Toriyama, the man himself, made …

Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods Review

Destruction, a depressing yet undeniable factor in the circle of life. Without the threat of an end, life would become stagnant, void of any sense of urgency. Or so we mortal beings rationalise. But were it your role in life to bring about said destruction, how would you behave? Would you relish in the carnage? Despise your lot in life? Or simply accept existence as it is? Regardless, end is an inevitability…but that doesn’t mean it isn’t fun to fight it. Especially if said fights involve punching and explosions. The Dragon Balls, inciters of adventure and the trump card of the Z Fighters throughout a number of battles. Seven orbs of tremendous power, capable of summoning forth the almighty dragon Shenron, one who possesses the power to grant one a single wish. As you might expect, gathering these legendary relics is far from easy, spread across the Earth, the Dragon Balls have alluded countless seekers, driving many to deception, crime and ins…wait…Bulma found them all again. Of course, she wouldn’t have done so without an important …

Dragon Ball Xenoverse – Jaco The Galactic Patrolman Playable Character Announced As Pre-Order Bonus

If you’ve never heard of “Jaco The Galactic Patrolman”, allow me to explain: “Jaco The Galactic Patrolman” is a short Manga series by “Dragon Ball” creator that tells the story of an intergalactic authority figure named Jaco who crash lands on Earth only to discover that, despite what the rest of the universe is saying, the people on this planet aren’t too bad. Throughout the short series he gets up to no good as he tries to figure out the planet as well as its inhabitants. “Jaco The Galactic Patrol Man” isn’t as serious a series as Toriyama’s “Dragon Ball” but it does take place in the same universe. In fact, it is thanks to Jaco that young Goku made it to Earth safe and sound. You see, Jaco picks up on an incredible force heading towards the planet but decides against stopping its arrival resulting in the young Saiyan growing up as a good guy rather than as a savage, so Jaco’s just as much to thank as Grandpa Gohan I think. Anyway, it …

Dragon Ball Z 2015 Will Bring With it A Familiar Face

That’s right Dragon Ball Z fans…he’s back. One of the most iconic foes that Goku has ever faced. The former Tyrant of countless worlds, the destroyer of the Saiyans, the villain who showed us that one transformation just isn’t enough: Freeza. When two of Freeza’s henchman, who have somehow survived unnoticed since the Tyrant’s fall, reappear, they bring with them a plan. A plan which honestly isn’t that special in the world of DBZ, but if it works it works. Sorbet and Togama, the henchman, gather up the once difficult to locate Dragon Balls and make the worst wish in history…like as in bad for everyone, that kind of worst. Because let’s face it, Zarbon wishing for eternal beauty without immortality was a pretty big slip up…   Apparently, Akira Toriyama is also a fan of the band Maximum the Hormone, as it was when listening to their song “F” that he decided to name the film Dragon Ball Z: Revival of F. Which is pretty awesome, considering that the band has stated that “F” is …

Ocean Supposedly Set to Dub Dragon Ball Z Kai

So Dragon Ball Z is a popular series. For a lot of people, it was one of the first anime they ever watched, before they even knew that anime was different to western cartoons. That’s how it was for me at least. Anyway, fans of DBZ may recall more than one dub existing. Though FUNimation’s dub is the longest running, one cannot look past the original Ocean dub. Thus we are brought to the news at hand. With DBZ Kai bringing the series a new life, it has been revealed via the Twitterverse that a second dub shall come to be. An Ocean dub. As of yet, only two of the supposed cast have supposedly been announced. Richard Ian Cox as Goku and Lee Tockar as Frieza, the latter being the source of the supposition in the first place. After nearly 2 years I’m finally able 2 announce that I M playing Frieza in the new Ocean group version of Dragon Ball Kai coming out soon!! — Lee Tockar (@leetockar) November 4, 2014 Hopefully a more concrete …

Dragon Ball: Xenoverse – Release Date Trailer [UPDATE: American Release Date Announced]

You know, reader, with all this talk of time and space, I’ve really been thinking about when exactly ‘Dragon Ball: Xenoverse’ is set to hit local shelves and thankfully today Bandai Namco Games have answered my question. It’s a Friday which is already good enough in my books but it has been made even sweeter thanks to the video game developer/distributor. Not only have they revealed the European release date for the upcoming ‘Dragon Ball: Xensoverse’ game but they’ve also released one hell of an awesome trailer that takes audiences back through time as it describes just what the game is about. It also details some cool looking editions of the game but we’ll get to that in due time. The date has been set: Europe will be getting the new ‘DBZ’ title on the 13th of February next year which, if you ask me, is too far away! I need this game, but I’m sure any long-time fan of ‘Dragon Ball Z’ will be feeling the exact same as me right now. Also announced …

The Snap, Crackle And Pop Culture Show: Shonen Wrestling

The boys are back, once again, for another episode of the Snap, Crackle and Pop Culture Show! For those of you who’ve never seen an episode of this web series before; basically the boys sit down to have a little bit of a chat about the goings on in the Anime, Manga and Video Game world. This episode, Frank and Luke sit down to have a deep and thorough discussion about the similarities between modern day Pro Wrestling and Shonen Anime/Manga series’. Listen as I, Frank Inglese, attempt to do my very best Hulk Hogan impression as Luke Halliday explains to me why I should never do it again. Ever. Luke happens to be a huge fan of pro Wrestling, having been watching it ever since he was a young lad. I’ve only recently gotten into the world of Wrestling and no less than nothing about it BUT I do happen to know a whole bunch about Shonen series’…and that’s why we’re the perfect mix for this discussion. Follow us on a short journey through …

Be Yourself…Or Someone Else With The Customisation Mode In ‘Dragon Ball: Xenoverse’

Ever since I was a child, back in the days when the ‘Dragon Ball Z’ Anime used to grace television sets around Australia each and every weekday morning, I always wondered what it would be like to be one of the ‘Z Fighters’. I used to wish I could fight alongside my hero Goku, I used to dream of surpassing him by reaching the legendary ‘Super Saiyan 5’ of which I made up within my own mind, I used to ponder what my fighting style would be like and how I would beat each and every single one of the enemies that threaten Earth. Now, at the ripe old age of twenty, I realize that I don’t belong in the ‘Dragon Ball’ universe because, let’s face it, I’d absolutely be the guy to replace Yamcha once they decide to stop reviving him from the dead. Fact is…I’d be worse than Yamcha, so I let those dreams fade away. Now, thanks to the option to customize your very own character in the upcoming ‘Dragon Ball: Xenoverse’ …

Mysterious “Dragon Ball: XENOVERSE” Character Confirmed To Be…Not So Mysterious

Look, reader, I don’t want to sound too egotistical but…I called it! Though, let’s be honest, I’m pretty sure we all though the same thing. A while ago, at this point in time, the upcoming ‘Dragon Ball: XENOVERSE’ video game title was announced by Bandai Namco and featured a character of which no ‘Dragon Ball Z’ fan has ever seen before. Looking like a Saiyan and being ‘front and center’ for most of the game’s publicity, fans automatically began to believe that this particular Toriyama-esque creation is none other than the main character of the upcoming game. Something else I imaging many fans started thinking was that this character will actually be a digital representation of yourself that will be thrown into the battles of ‘Dragon Ball’ history so that you may be able to experience the life of a ‘Z Fighter’, somewhat, first hand. Well Bandai Namco Games have come out today and confirmed everything we’ve been thinking for the past couple of months by announcing that this ‘Mysterious Character’ IS exactly that: A …

Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods Gets New “Trailer”

People say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery…but that can be boring sometimes. After all, why be sincere when you can poke fun at something? Following this train of thought, I present to you the latest offering of Mega64. Commissioned by FUNimation themselves, this video takes the form of a live action trailer, showcasing all the great points of Dragon Ball Z. Like power ups, training sequences…ummm…even more power ups. You kinda just have to watch it. Trust me, if you didn’t want to see Battle of the Gods before… -30-

Extended Teaser Trailer For New “Dragon Ball Z” 2015 Film Is Pretty Damn Heavy

“The worst wish in history. Now, despair begins.” is the quote that ends the newly-released teaser trailer for the upcoming ‘Dragon Ball Z’ movie which has no title as of right now but has been simply referred to as ‘Dragon Ball Z 2015’ by fans and reporters. Not surprising in any way, this new ‘DBZ’ movie has piqued the interest of many Anime fans around the world. Series creator Akira Toriyama has previously come out and explained to the masses that he will be spending a great deal of his time over the coming year focused on the production of the film. It will feature a storyline he originally wanted to showcase in the original run of the Manga/Anime but which unfortunately fell to the wayside. This has gotten many people excited, simply knowing the legendary Mangaka will have as much ‘pull’ as humanly possible in regards to this new film. Others, however, only wish to ‘badmouth’ the industry loyal and focus strictly on the few failures of his career rather than the countless successes. …

Dragon Ball Z 2015 Film Nets First Teaser Trailer

Who doesn’t love Dragon Ball Z? I suppose if you answered “Me” to that question this news isn’t for you. But for the rest of us who love to see the Saiyans duke it out against aliens of increasing strength, it’s time to get excited for 2015. Having personally created the original concept, screenplay and character designs of the film, Akira Toriyama is rather excited about his latest offering. Claiming that he is “fussing over the smallest dialogue lines”, Toriyama promises that the 2015 film will be “utterly funny”. Toriyama has even noted that his first manga editor has praised him on his work thus far, something that he is said to rarely do. So if Toriyama is o amped about it, I look forward to see exactly how this film plays out. For the briefest of glimpses, check out the teaser below (courtesy of Fuji TV’s morning program Mezamashi TV). -30-

There’s A New Saiyan In Town! “Dragon Ball: Xenoverse” Screenshots Showcase Future Saiyan Warrior

There’s a heavy burden that comes with the option of time travel but if you had the ability to speed back through time, helping out the ‘good guys’ in each and every situation of conflict, would you not do so? There’s a new character that has been ‘shown’ to be quite pivotal in the upcoming ‘Dragon Ball: Xenoverse’ fighting game published by the wonderful Bandai Namco Games, and he just so happens to be a time traveler. He has been described as a ‘mysterious figure’ who journey through the timeline of the ‘Dragon Ball’ universe, aiding in the battle against benevolent forces hell-bent on destroying all that is good. In other words; every single antagonist from the ‘Dragon Ball’ series. Playing as this ‘mysterious future warrior’, you will take part in every single fate-deciding battle from the highly-acclaimed Shonen series. You will fight alongside each of the ‘Z Fighters’, helping them along the way and most likely changing certain outcomes including their inevitable deaths along the way. As much as we know about this ‘mysterious …

New “Dragon Ball Z” Anime Movie Announced For 2015

Here’s the deal; if you’re not excited about the prospect of a brand-new ‘Dragon Ball Z’ movie, especially after seeing ‘Battle Of Gods’, I’m sorry but I don’t think we can be friends. Not that being my friend is a privilege of any kind. This particular piece of news was not meant to be officially released until Saturday where it will feature in the new issue of Shueisha’s ‘V Jump’ magazine but thanks to an unknown citizen of this great world ‘DBZ’ fans were given the announcement early by almost a full week! Coming next Spring, as part of the ‘Golden Week’ celebrations, a new ‘Dragon Ball Z’ movie will be released. Akira Toriyama, the series’ creator himself, has done a great deal of work for this movie with him being credited for the overall story concept, script and character design of who I’m assuming are some new friends and foes to be introduced in the upcoming film. The movie will feature an entirely new story much like that of ‘Battle Of Gods’ but something a …

Dragon Ball Full Colour (Manga) Volume 2 Review

I have been searching the skies and the seas below for volume two of the ‘Dragon Ball Full Colour’ Manga, and after weeks of longing for a glimpse at it’s sweet, colourful pages, Madman Entertainment has thrown me a bone…Quite literally! A lot of this generation’s Anime fans grew up on ‘Dragon Ball Z’. We were watching it before we even knew what Anime was. We were watching ‘Dragon Ball Z’ even though we had no knowledge of ‘Dragon Ball’, the series that came before it. It didn’t matter to us that certain things didn’t make sense, we just watched it for what it was and it, in turn, made us love it. Many, many years later I’m presented with the re-release of the original Manga that spawned an Anime that practically raised me to be the Anime fan I am today. Obviously I dropped to my knees and openly wept but after I gathered myself and cried every last tear I opened the book and began to read. Memories rushed back to me. Yes, …

Dragon Ball Xenoverse – “Mysterious Character” Screenshots Released

Gosh I love “Dragon Ball Z”. I’ve always been a fan, even before I actually knew it was an Anime. I would love to say something along the lines of “I’ve bought every ‘Dragon Ball Z’ game” but there’s just so many of them! Maybe saying “I wish I owned every ‘Dragon Ball Z’ game” would be more accurate of a statement. Regardless, my love for the series and it’s games still burn bright so it comes as no surprise that I’m really excited for the upcoming fighting game title “Dragon Ball Xenoverse”. The first thing you notice about the game is it’s super bad-arse name…”Xenoverse”…dang. The other thing fans should have already noticed is the new character that featured in the announcement trailer of the game as well as in most of it’s press. This “mysterious character”, as he has been referred to as, has recently made another appearance around the web. Yes, he’s the star of his own batch of screenshot and, I must say; he’s one handsome fella! All jokes aside, Bandai …

Rurouni Kenshin films to get Theatrical Releases in Australia

Madman Entertainment have announced during their Supanova Perth 2014 industry panel today that they have plans to release the final two live-action Rurouni Kenshin films alongside the animated film Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods in theaters across Australia at some point in 2014. While there is no solid date set for the release of the three films, the fact that Madman promises a 2014 release period is satisfying enough. Both Rurouni Kenshin films will be released simultaneously and bring the samurai tale to a close ending it as a trilogy. On the other side of the fence, Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods previously saw screenings in Australia last year as part of the Japanese Film Festival, so this will be its second go around. The only difference is that this time there could be a potentially larger audience with Madman’s distribution. Madman did state that they will be confirming more information on the releases in the future, so do stay tuned for that news when Madman decides to drop it. The final two …
