Fun at a March Convention – Anime Festival Sydney 2020

-Mattiese- Saturday the 7th of March started out real poopy. I ripped my pants, just barely made the train, and the camera ran out of storage half way through our first interview; Kane and I had to walk to buy a new SD card, and then walk all the way back to the convention, and boy was I already tired. None of this was ideal, and I started worrying what else would happen to me throughout the rest of the day. It was about 12pm when we finally stepped foot into the convention, and I already felt as if my worries were lifted. Cosplayers, stalls, and panels are what made up Anime Festival Sydney 2020; and man was it enjoyable. The first thing we did was head to the “Live Drawing with Shingo Adachi” panel, and boy is that guy talented. Adachi drew a few popular Sword Art Online characters (as he was character designer on the series), while answering questions related to his work. At the end of the panel, they let fans ask …

Butterflies Dream – Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth – Hacker’s Memory – Humble Opinions

Digimon. Digital Monsters, if you will. A fictitious collection of creatures that captured the hearts and minds of children long ago, by taking the concept of virtual pets and asking one simple question: What if they could fight? Then they did. Then there was an anime and they saved the world. Then they did it again. Then Chiaki J. Konaka got involved and things got dark. Then they got lighter. Then a few petitions cropped up and the video game side of the franchise reappeared in the Western market, resulting in another World and a rather interesting Story. However, we all know that stories are not one-sided endeavours, leading to yet another question asked and answered: What was happening, like, two meters to the left of the protagonist of Cyber Sleuth? Just so there are no misconceptions about what this game is, Hacker’s Memory is rather heavily tied into its predecessor in terms of both setting and story. Though the tale of this game is one unto itself, far too many references to Cyber Sleuth …

Bandai Shows Off The Digimon 20th Anniversary V-Pet’s Tag Battle System In New Video

Months ago, Bandai revealed to the world that they would be re-releasing their original Tamagotchi off-shoot, the Digimon V-Pet, in celebration of its 20th Anniversary. This comes as a follow up to three other Digimon Digivice upgrade and redistribution projects and I have a sneaking suspicion that it wont be the last. The new device, titled Digimon 20th Anniversary V-Pet, will not only be a physical replication of the original but will come with heavily upgraded gameplay mechanics that will give Tamers access to a slew of Digimon, new and old, as well as new levels of Digivolution, and new ways to battle with friends. One of which happens to be the “Tag Battle” system that has been coded into the device’s software so as to allow four monster battles. The Japanese video game pop culture website 4Gamer recently held quite the interview with the staff in charge of the Digimon 20th Anniversary V-Pet, and whilst many of the questions answered were done so in a mostly vague manner, only revealing information already done so through …

Digimon World: Next Order – Review

Japan, 1997: The Birth Of Digimon – Bandai took the world by storm with its Tamagotchi variant directed at young males. With a focus on training and fighting, it quickly became not only a great alternative to pet ownership but a competitive craze that would dominate the year as well as the few that followed. Japan, 1999: A Whole New World – Bandai releases Digimon World for the PlayStation. A spiritual follow-up to the Sega Saturn title Digital Monster Ver. S: Digimon Tamer which would, one day, be lost in the shadow of what many consider to be the quintessential Digimon video game. Digimon World sucked Tamers into the world of the Virtual Pets they loved so much, introducing us all to a brand-new world. Japan, 2012: A Missed Opportunity – Another addition to the Digimon World line; Digimon World Re:Digitize was released across Japan, but never in any other regions. This game saw Tamers, once again, return to the Digital World in much the same way as its descendant. While many other Digimon games had come …

Japanese Video Game of the Year Awards – 2016

It’s that time of year (give or take a few weeks) where we all take a second and ponder the year that was. However, rather than use this time for introspection or self betterment, why not just think about which games were most fun? Which ones took you by surprise, which ones met your expectations and which ones exceeded them by far. If only there were some already completed list to help spark your though process, complete with pictures and individualised blurbs… Why, who put this here? What luck! A (somewhat) well thought out list of Japanese based video games that made 2016 fun. Talk about a lucky break. Why not give it a look? I’ll meet you down at the bottom of the page. Have fun! GOTY – Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth 2016 was, in the eyes of many fans, a year dedicated to the long-running Monster Taming franchise Digimon. At the forefront of it’s year-long victory was none other than this year’s Game Of The Year; Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth. The first worthwhile …

Digimon World: Next Order “Un-Hatch Your Destiny” Trailer Released + Boltbautamon Introduction

Digimon World: Next Order is only about a week away from an official release outside of Japan, and yet thanks to the Western world getting a higher quality PlayStation 4 version of the game Japan has decided to follow suit with their own “International Edition” with that release to coincide with our own. Now despite it not being too far away, Bandai Namco Entertainment are continuing to roll out trailers for the upcoming game, which doesn’t surprise anyone, as well as introducing us to brand-new Digital Monsters that we assume have been designed specifically for Next Order. The new trailer, titled “Un-Hatch your Destiny”, is another overview video of Digimon World: Next Order that focuses on the death, rebirth, and Fusions features of the new game, showing partner Digimon perishing in battle only to be reborn though this time as the result of a Fusion between their dwindling data. The trailer IS in English, and can be seen just below this paragraph wherein which I have provided it: Bandai Namco Entertainment Japan today also revealed …

Everything We Know About Bandai’s 20th Anniversary Remake Of The Original Digimon V-Pet

Some time ago, Bandai Japan updated the official Digimon: Digital Monsters website to feature a countdown timer alongside an interesting graphic sporting both series mainstay Tyrannomon accompanied by the original V-Pet, released in 1997. The timer was obviously counting down to the re-release of the V-Pets we came to know and love in our youth. Not only was it the images that gave it away, but the long line of re-makes and re-releases that Bandai have been rolling out over the past year. Well today that timer finally hit zero, and with it came the reveal of what is indeed a pair of very exciting re-makes. Now, I have spent a great deal of my day attempting to translate the onslaught of information that came with the announcement, but that is not the hardest feat I have attempted to accomplish today…it is this; relaying it to you all in an understandable and concise manner. Considering I do not read, write, or understand Japanese, I have had to use a series of translation applications to discover …

Compare the Pair – Digimon World: Next Order Presents Vita and PS4 Graphics Side by Side

Oh how refreshing it is to be back in a world where Digimon games are seeing a Western release. No sarcasm there, simply genuine happiness. Doubly so considering that it is one of the few franchises that has tried to make use of the PS Vita, otherwise known as the world’s most under-utilised gaming device. That being said, Bandai Namco’s latest trailer for Digimon World: Next Order may just show reason for people’s aversion to the console. Handheld in nature, the Vita has never, and will never, compete visually with its more powerful, home-locked brother. Combined with the comparative lack of large scale releases, the Vita has seen far less attention outside of Japan. Of course this is a self fulfilling prophecy, as the lack of sales results in companies not porting to the Vita, resulting in a lack of sales, resulting in a lack of ports to the console. Nothing new there. Regardless, the Western release of Next Order shall apparently only see a PS4 release and the trailer that is about to follow ultimately …

Digimon Universe: Appli Monsters Heading To The West Courtesy Of Toei Animation

Ever since I was a child, stretching up to this very day, I have been in love with Bandai’s Digimon. The Anime series, the video games, the Virtual Pets, and even it’s Trading Card Game, it seems as though Digimon is just one of the few franchises that will stick with me for the rest of my life. Reading that alone, you can see why the next step into the Digital World, known as Digimon Universe: Appli Monsters, is so exciting to me, and people like myself, who simply cannot get enough of what the franchise has to offer. Until today, I was convinced that the new Anime series, accompanied by the Video Game and merchandise related to it, would never make it outside of Japan, but it is thanks to Toei Animations news that I’m able to toss those thoughts out the window, replacing them with some more positive than the last: Perhaps you’ve never heard of this, but there is a yearly convention called “MIPCON” which is, in basic terms, a tradeshow that …

A Second Trailer Has Been Released For Upcoming Digimon Universe: Appli Monsters Game

While many Digimon fans from across the globe are busy attacking and defending the new multimedia project Digimon Universe: Appli Monsters, many of us are just glad that such an addition to the long-running series exists. Scroll through any comment section of any given article regarding the new Video Game or Anime and you will understand just how divisive Digimon Universe: Appli Monsters is. There’s a clear three-way split in the fandom; a third of which will attack it for either been too different or not different enough, another that will defend it tooth and nail regardless of the facts, and a final that is simply happy that the franchise has yet to perish in the shadow of more popular franchises like Pokemon and Yo-Kai Watch. This particular piece of news goes out to the latter of the fanbase specifically: Bandai Namco Entertainment have released a brand-new full-length trailer for the upcoming Nintendo 3DS game, aptly titled Digimon Universe: Appli Monsters, that showcases many of it’s features, most of which have never been seen in previous …

Digimon Adventure Tri. D-3 Digivice Now Up For Pre-Order Courtesy Of Bandai

Heck, I could’ve been a Digidestined, you know? Had I believed hard enough…and taken enough mind-altering hallucinogenic drugs to the point wherein which I was locked in a perpetual state of disconnection from the real world. That could’ve been me saving the world, dammit! Still, despite my regrets, I do want to be a Digidestined, and thus I take alternative routes. Quite some time ago, Bandai released a “proplica” (prop/replica) of the original Digivices held by Tai and Matt of Digimon Adventure. These Digivices, different from the working video game Digivices, light up and play sounds recognisable from the original series and also, because of it’s release, from the new set of films; Digimon Adventure Tri. Well, because they sold so darn well, Bandai are planning on releasing another version of those Digivices, this time though they will be modeled after the devices seen in the series’ second season. You know, with Davis, and Ken, and Cody, and T.K., and Kari…again. That one! Those Digivices, also known as the D-3, have now been put up on …

An Old New World – Digmon World: Next Order Set to Head Overseas in 2017

The Digital World, home to programs, annoying pop-up advertisements and an assortment of monsters who range from cute hairballs to titanic dragon knights whose very existence threatens the stability of whichever world it lives in. So, knowing that, of course you want to visit it…right? Of course you do, so let’s go! Back to a world we all (obviously) remember from the days of old when PlayStations had no number after their names and controllers had an option to turn off analog sticks. It was a weird time. Still, it was one that bore the original Digimon World, a game which allowed us to live our dreams of venturing into a plane unlike our own, travel with an ever changing friend and build an awesome city that absolutely had a shop that specialised in slabs of meat and another that was a tournament legal fighting ring. Every child’s dream. Well, get ready to dream again, because we’re going back, perhaps to the very same world which we once left behind. Having not extensively researched the …

First Promotional Video Released For Digimon Universe: Appli Monsters 3DS Game

Being one hell of a big Digimon fan, it’s days like this one that remind me it’s good to be alive. Waking up this morning to discover that Bandai Namco Entertainment have released the very first proper promotional video for their upcoming Nintendo 3DS game Digimon Universe: Appli Monsters signifies, to me, the beginning of what is looking to be a fantastic day. Up until this point in time, most of what Bandai have shown audiences around the world are teaser trailers, promotional images, and vague videos simply explaining that Digimon Universe: Appli Monsters is going to be a multi-platform project like no other. This has all changed with the release of a the game’s first sizeable promotional video. As you may already be aware; the upcoming game is a light RPG that revolves around building a deck of Applimon that can be applied in battle in several different ways. Choosing a main Applimon, players are tasked with building a deck around it so as to make it more powerful in-battle. As in Digimon fashion, …

Digimon Universe: Appli Monsters – Bandai Namco Introduces The World To Two More Appli Monsters

As a twenty-two year old living in an age of cynicism, it’s not often that I wake up of a morning, catch wind of an exciting piece of news, and am rendered giddy in delight as a cause of it, but it is franchises like Digimon that have a certain grasp on me that I feel will never let go. Overnight, Bandai Namco Entertainment have updated the official Japanese site for their upcoming video game based upon the multi-media franchise expansion; Digimon Universe: Appli Monsters. This update, whilst insignificant to some, introduces audiences to two more Appli Monsters based on both Online and Offline gaming, whilst also re-introducing us to those who were first revealed alongside this cross-media project. The screenshots featured below are taken from the upcoming Nintendo 3DS title that will use the same name, Digimon Universe: Appli Monsters, but the Digimon shown will not be exclusive to said game, they will appear in every facet of the project. Onmon: Onmon is a Game-Type Appli Monster that adores not only online gaming but anything that …

Digimon Adventure Tri. Hits North American Cinemas This September

Now, reader; what is better than a Digimon Adventure Tri. official English dub release? The answer; a theatrical release of said English dub! Film Distribution company Eleven Arts have come together with Toei Animation for not only an English dub of the series of movies but to detail plans on their theatrical release throughout North America, of course, starting with the very first of the films; Reunion. It is clear to both companies that there are still fans of the franchise floating around in the West, and it seems as though they’re more than willing to, for lack of a better phrase; give a dog a bone. Working with Fathom Events, a cinema-centric company that organises events for specialty films, Eleven Arts have revealed that they will be hosting one-time screenings of the movie across 300 North American theatres on the 15th of September, but if you cannot make it to the one-night showing, do not stress; Eleven Arts also have plans to give the film a proper theatrical release soon after that of the …

Everything You Need To Know About Digimon Universe: Appli Monsters – Tokyo Toy Show 2016

Today is the day that Digimon fans the world over stand up in support of what’s to come next with Digimon Universe: Appli Monsters. This new multimedia project was teased some time ago with the random appearance of a website that gave us little to no information, but built an incredible swell of hype almost instantaneously. It was soon revealed that this site was a teaser for the next step in the Digimon: Digital Monsters franchise titled “Digimon Universe: Appli Monsters“. The reveal boasted a cross-media project the scale of which we’ve never seen before. Just a few days ago an official Twitter page was started for the ambitious project that highlighted the protagonist of the Anime series, alongside some of the flagship Digimon that will appear throughout it, but today we have gotten way more than we expected thanks to Bandai’s presence at this year’s Tokyo Toy Show. Follow me as I take you through everything that was revealed over the course of Bandai’s Digimon Universe presentation, delivering you all the “need to know” information from …

First Look At Digimon Universe’s New Digital Monsters And Protagonist

Tomorrow marks the official kickoff of the Tokyo Toy Show 2016, so as you can imagine; sites like us based all around the world are preparing for some interesting product reveals alongside some tasty news that will surely excite the world as a whole. Us here at SnapThirty are moreso looking forward to the new information said to be released regarding the upcoming addition to the long Digimon lineage which is now under the new name; Digimon Universe: Appli Monsters. Last month, Bandai teased us with the creation of the official Digimon Universe website that, apart from some mostly-opaque images, showed us nothing about the new multimedia project. Today though, Bandai have created a Twitter account for the new project that features a couple of pictures that, until this point, were never before seen. Two images; one serving as the account’s banner image, and the other serving as the accounts display picture have revealed to the world the protagonist of this project alongside the flagship Digimon and a few others. Unfortunately, no information has been disclosed …

Multimedia Project Digimon Universe: Appli Monsters Revealed

It’s amazing to imagine that, in the palm of our hands, we each have the collected consciousness of the known world. Past and present both reside within these small mobile devices that each of us considers an absolute necessity to have in this day and age. Does it not fill you with awe as you look towards your iPhone or your Samsung or your Android and see it as a tool to aid in the constant expansion of your mind? Not only are there apps that allow you to access the World Wide Web, which in and of itself contains literally all known information, but there are ones that allow you to learn different languages, keep a record of your schedule, help you navigate to places unknown, predict the upcoming weather patterns; if there’s something you can conceive…there’s already an app for it, and it is a fact that is somehow both exciting and frightening! Bandai, Bandai Namco Entertainment, and Toei Animation have just revealed something wonderful; the next big step in the Digimon: Digital …

A Look Into The Strange World Of Japanese Beetle Fighting

Japan is a country known, above all else, for it’s incredible eccentricity. Most people you talk to about Japan will instinctively refer to it as being quite a bizarre place, focused on the abnormal, with a tendency to do what other cultures would consider unsavoury. This is, fortunately, the view only of those uneducated in the rich culture of this fine land, be it pop or otherwise. In many cases, yes, Japan does indeed fit into the stereotype that many people intuitively designate, but there is much more to the country’s culture than that of cute, illustrated girls. Much, much more! For every Pokemon, Dragon Ball Z, Sailor Moon, and Astro Boy that makes it outside of the great country, only to impact the rest of the world in immeasurable ways, there are countless facets of Japanese (pop) culture that remain only in the country of birth. The worst thing about that is…these are some of their most interesting and charming cultural features, and we don’t often get the chance to experience them, living in Western countries. …

A Nostalgia-Driven Trip To The 90s: Hands-On With Bandai’s Tamagotchi Friends

It’s 1996 and a team of visionaries working for Bandai have come up with an interesting idea: To make a device that allows children the opportunity to raise their own pets, without the real-life responsibility that comes with actual pet ownership. This idea gave birth to the very first of it’s kind; the Tamagotchi, who’s name comes from the amalgamation of the Japanese word for egg, tamago, with the English word watch. The Tamagotchi, thanks to it’s incredible rise in popularity, then gave birth to the well-known Digimon, which, in and of itself, spawned a countless number of handheld video games that took the world by storm. For the West, this virtual pet craze was short-lived, piquing in popularity during the late 90s, leading up to the early 2000s. Over in Japan, as is usually the case, the love for Tamagotchi never saw as steep a decline, with a new model being released periodically since the original made it’s mark on the world. The funny thing about us as human beings is that, while we …

Meet The Seven New Digimon Headed To Bandai Namco’s Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth

Bandai Namco Entertainment recently did the West a huge solid by releasing the incredibly popular PlayStation Vita title Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth, this time on both it’s original console and on the PlayStation 4. Released in Japan quite some time ago, this game is not only a fantastic Digimon video game title, but simply a great Japanese role-playing game in general which brings a tear to my eye because I’ve been waiting for this title ever since it was first announced for Japan. Almost sixty hours in, I’m still finding more and more to do within the detailed realm of Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth. Not only is there plenty to do within the game’s main story, but it also has an incredibly high number of side quests, making this one of the longer games I’ve played in recent times, but Bandai Namco Entertainment have been doing something to elongate our experience with this long-awaited game; they’ve been releasing free downloadable content that add more intriguing side missions to the game, and I’m not just talking …

Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth – PlayStation 4 Review

Chances are, if you’re reading this, you’re totally into Digimon, which is, like, the cutest because, FYI…Digimon is, like, totally into you too. It’s been many years since a proper Digimon video game was released in the West so, as you can imagine, us wannabe-DigiDestined are pretty excited to have this title in the palm of our hands. Finally. Now the reason I say “proper” Digimon video game is because the last Digimon title us Westerners got wasAll-Star Rumble and – I’m sorry about this, Bandai Namco Entertainment – but that game was a breathtaking flop. Thankfully, that has been entirely made up for with the release of Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth; a Digimon game about crime, mystery, theDigital World, and a sexy lady in what looks to be just a button up business shirt. How could you possibly turn your attention away from that? The answer to that question: You can’t! Once again, I would like to thank Bandai Namco Entertainment not only for providing us with a copy of the new game for review, …

Toei Animation Releases Second Preview For Digimon Adventure Tri: Determination

While most, if not all, Digimon fans living around the world are focused on the recently-released Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth courtesy of Bandai Namco Games, Toei Animation thought it would be a good idea to sneakily release another preview for the upcoming Digimon Adventure Tri film Determination. The second in a series of six films, Determination focuses heavily on that of Jo Kido and Mimi Tachikawa alongside their digital pals Gomamon and Palmon. Mostly shrouded in mystery, it looks as though this second film will feature the Digimon Emperor as it’s main antagonist, despite the fact that, years earlier, his reign on the Digital World was thwarted and he joined the second generation of DigiDestined as Ken Ichijouji, who you may all know is the partner of Wormmon. Seemingly controlled by the Digimon Emperor is that of Imperialdramon who, although scary enough as he already is, looks fearsome under the dark control of this mysterious but deja vu-inducing hero. Determination will mark the very first time both Gomamon and Palmon’s Mega evolutions will be shown …

Digimon Adventure Tri Part Two: Determination First Preview Trailer Released

If you’re Digimon fans who have not yet watched the first film of the Digimon Adventure Tri series, well…I’m very disappointed in you, and that includes my fellow writers Kane Bugeja and Luke Halliday who also have not found the time to experience possibly one of the best pieces of Digimon media in the modern day. It’s fine though, you all have time to catch up before the second movie, Determination, gets it’s release, which has just been announced for March this year alongside the reveal of a preview trailer that only serves as fuel to the digital fire burning in my soul. March 12th is when the next movie will get a theatrical release across the great country of Japan, with Crunchyroll possibly picking it up for legal Western distribution sometime after. I mean…it’s what they did with the first movie, an educated assumption is that they’ll do the same with the second. Unlike the first film, Determination will not entirely focus on the character of Yamato (Matt) and Taichi (Tai). No, this film will …

Going Digital Once More – Digimon World: Next Order Releases New Trailer

Since the Digital Monsters first graced our collective childhoods, there has been a desire to witness the world in which they live, a desire met by the handily titled Digimon World. Spun into a franchise across the years, these games have provided stories to whet the appetites of those who wish to take their favourite Digimon friends and hit evil really, really hard, often in the face or faces  (depending on their respective constitutions). Of course, the more recent of these do good adventures have been limited to Japanese audiences, what with localisation and all, though hopefully the soon to release in the west Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth will bring a resurgence of the franchise outside its country of origin. Owing to its place within a pre-established franchise, Next Order promises gameplay elements similar to those that have graced Worlds prior. Providing the player with a protagonist male or female protagonist avatar and two digital companions, the game also promises a story of combat, villainy and mystery, or so it is gathered from the trailer. …

Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth Set To Be Released In North America This February

Here we go, we’ve finally got a date courtesy of Bandai Namco Entertainment who’ve today announced that the upcoming PlayStation Vita/PlayStation 4 exclusive Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth is set to hit local shelves across North America on the 2nd of February next year. Up until this point in time, all we knew about the release of this game is that it was going to be made available sometime in 2016, which seems so far away despite the fact that 2015 is quickly coming to an end. Bandai Namco Entertainment announced alongside the release date that Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth’s PlayStation 4 version will be made available both digitally and physically, with the physical version coming with some exciting pre-order bonuses that include a couple of costumes for the main character’s Agumon, a set of items thrown together to help the player out during the beginning of the game, with additional Digimon partners like BlackAgumon, BlackGabumon, Beelzemon, and Cherubimon. Unfortunately the PlayStation Vita version of the game will only be getting a digital release therefor you cannot …

Bandai Namco Entertainment Announces Digimon Linkz SmartPhone Game

It seems as though Digimon is making a comeback. According to Japan, it never really left, but anyone who knows anything about the long-running monster-raising franchise will know that it has obviously seen better days. Most notably; back in 90s when it was first conceived and released. As of late, though, the franchise has been resurrected thanks to a whole bunch of new video games developed specifically for those of us who grew up with Digimon, and those of us who still have a place for it in our hearts. Digimon World Re:Digitized, Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth, Digimon World -Next 0rder-; these are just a few of the worthwhile new Digimon games that Bandai Namco Entertainment have delivered to the Digital Monster-loving fans…and they’ve got one more to announce, but unfortunately it wont be as exciting as the titles I listed just above. The new game is called Digimon Linkz; a SmartPhone title that has players build their own village, raise their own Digimon, and battle others to see just who truly is the master …

Digimon Adventure Tri: Reunion – Second Teaser Trailer Released

Chances are, if you grew up with Digimon…you’ll never grow out of Digimon. How do I know this? Because literally everybody I know of that loved Digimon as children still have great feelings for it now, that’s why the prospect of these Digimon Adventure Tri films is so exciting! Now let me ask you a question: Who was the first enemy Digimon the DigiDestined and their partners faced off against when they discovered each other in the Digital World? If you said Kuwagamon, you’d be right. If you said “Who cares! Let’s just see the new trailer!” you’d also be right. Digimon Adventure Tri’s first movie, subtitled “Reunion“, sees the original DigiDestined crew, well…reunite with their long lost digital pals. Fact is; troubles not too far around the corner. Before the group even get a chance to fully embrace each others’ company, they’re attacked by none other than Kuwagamon. The same Kuwagamon? Perhaps, but unconfirmed. Agumon, like he did in the very beginning, springs to action and takes on the gargantuan beetle once again, ending …

Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth – Kyoko Kuremi Story Overview Trailer Released

The fact that Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth has already been released over in Japan hasn’t stopped Bandai Namco Entertainment from promoting it across the rest of the world. Tokyo Game Show 2015 has only just begun and already we’re catching wind of some amazing new video game announcements and updates. One of the more exciting ones is the new trailer for the upcoming PlayStation Vita and PlayStation 4 title Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth which is, surprisingly, making it’s way to the West sometime in 2016. Narrated by Cyber Detective Kyoko Kuremi, the trailer’s dialogue is spoken entirely in English and goes on to detail the game’s story; something we’ve seen time and time again in Japanese trailers but never in English. While the trailer doesn’t exactly show anything new about the game, the fact that it was put together just for Western audiences really drives home the point that this game is indeed on it’s way to local shelves. Tokyo Game Show 2015 has only just begun so there’s still plenty of amazing video game …

Digimon World: Next Order – Tokyo Game Show 2015 Trailer

Tokyo Game Show 2015 has only just begun, but it has done so in quite an explosive way. Japanese pop culture fans know TGS as one of the better video game expos of our generation and there’s a huge reason why; some of the most exciting stuff comes out of it, including the latest trailer for Bandai Namco Entertainment’s upcoming PlayStation Vita title Digimon World: Next Order, stylised as “Next -0rder-“. Running just a little over two minutes long, the trailer showcases what it will be like playing as both the male and female protagonists, with the male having Agumon and Gabumon as his digital companions, and the female having Biyomon and Palmon. The trailer also gives audiences an extensive look at the world of Next Order with some nice throwbacks to the original Digimon World PlayStation 1 title. Set for a Japanese release on the PlayStation Vita sometime in 2016, nothing has been said by Bandai Namco Entertainment regarding a Western release; something that may actually never come. Either way, we have a fantastic …

Female Protagonist Revealed For Digimon World -Next 0rder-

Yes, back when the Digimon line of virtual pets were first released they were marketed towards young boys, but it’s now 2015 and a lot has changed between then and now. Not too long ago, Bandai Namco Entertainment revealed their next Digimon video game title, Digimon World -Next 0rder-, for the PlayStation Vita and since it’s reveal we really havn’t gotten much in terms of extensive information. Yeah, Bandai Namco Entertainment released a teaser trailer and some fairly uninteresting screenshots, but that’s about it…until now. The latest issue of Shueisha’s V-Jump magazine features a nice spread revolving around the new game that has introduced audiences to it’s Female protagonist; a young girl named Shiki. Like a lot contemporary additions to game series’ of this type (Pokemon, Yo-Kai Watch, Etc.), Digimon World -Next 0rder- will too allow you to choose between a Male and Female protagonist, both of which are looking damn funky! Also revealed in the magazine is another character from the upcoming game who you’re NOT in control of. Kota Hirose is another young …

The Attendees of SMASH! 2015 – Cosplay Compilation

The cosplay community is a large, thriving collection of incredibly dedicated and hard-working fans of pop culture. Preparing months (sometimes even years) in advanced, these men and women put countless hours into constructing costumes modelled after their favorite characters from the world of pop culture, but…come on, you know this already, right? Cosplay has been around for many, many years. It’s so popular in the modern age that I honestly cannot imagine it ever dulling in popularity…nor should it. At every pop culture convention, one of the more amazing sights is that of a crowd of cosplayers not only enjoying their own costumes but the costumes of others and the convention itself. When it comes to prime cosplayers, it seems as though SMASH! truly is the place to be. Each and every year the quality of cosplay you see on the show grounds continues to grow ever higher, with those living the dedicated cosplay lifestyle continuing to develop as craftsmen and craftswomen. SMASH! 2015 was no different. Each and every cosplayer present put clear effort into their …

It’s Time We Head Back – First Trailer Released For Digimon World: Next Order

My experience with the original Digimon World video game is that of an odd one: I never had a PlayStation therefor I never owned the game, but my next door neighbour had both and, as a fan of the series, you could imagine I spent most of my time there playing it…but I had no idea what I was doing. Battles were impossible for me, my Digimon would constantly die, the town wouldn’t expand, it was a video game that was simply too difficult for my tiny brain to comprehend and yet I stuck with it for so long. Bandai Namco Entertainment Japan recently revealed that there is a brand-new Digimon World video game on the horizon; Digimon World: Next Order. When I first heard of the news I simply thoughts this was just another Digimon game that would fail to reach Western shores and therefor only work to disappoint me; a huge fan of the Digimon franchise. Bandai Namco Entertainment North America and Europe recently announced that they will be bringing the previous PlayStation Vita …

New Video Shows What The Digimon Adventure Tri Complete Selection Animation Digivice Can Really Do

About a week ago, I brought you news of Premium Bandai’s latest and greatest piece of Digimon merchandise; The Digimon Adventure Tri Complete Selection Animation Digivice. Yes, the name IS unnecessarily long, but that doesn’t make this product any less exciting, that’s for sure! Though it does make it hard to write a concise article title. Over in Tokyo, the powers at be held their very of Digimon Adventure Festival wherein which they celebrated everything Digimon Adventure, much like what the event’s title states. During this festival, Bandai elaborated on just what it is this new device can do by releasing a full video literally showing what it can do! Contrary to what was once thought about this Digivice, it is unlike the 15th Anniversary version announced months ago which actually features a video game function much like the Digivices released all those years ago. Despite the Complete Selection Animation Digivice not being “playable”, it does have a set of functions unique to this “proplica”. If you’d read the previous article you’d already know that …

See An Iconic Battle Revisited In The First Full Trailer For Digimon Adventure Tri Part One

Over this past weekend, Tokyo held it’s very own Digimon Adventure Festival that, as a Digimon fan and a guy who writes about Japanese pop culture, I was very surprised to find out about. Never before had I heard of the Digimon Adventure Festival, but I’m damn glad it exists because, thanks to it, we (the fans) have been given a nice look at the first of six Digimon Adventure Tri movies through a full trailer rather than more teasers, which I couldn’t handle for much longer. With a distinct lack of dialogue, the trailer features the movie’s theme song “Butter-Fly” by Koji Wada; the theme song of the original Japanese dub of the series which will make a return for the new films. It also features scenes from the first film, obviously, that show the re-igniting of a battle between our hero Greymon and the mysteriously evil Kuwagamon which you’ll remember was the first big battle in the original Digimon Adventure Anime series, going down in history as one of the most iconic Digimon …

Premium Bandai Reveals Official Replica Of Tai’s Signature Goggles

Happy days for Digimon fans living in Japan! Premium Bandai, over the past few months, have been rolling out the awesome merchandise in celebration of the upcoming Digimon Adventure Tri series of animated films, each item looking better than the last with the latest being a full-scale replica of the original DigiDestined leader’s signature goggles. Incase having a fully-functioning Digivice wasn’t quite enough to make you feel like a true DigiDestined, surely these goggles will! As you may remember, Taichi “Tai” Kamiya was the original wearer of this legendary piece of eye-gear back in Digimon Adventure, but then passed it down to Daisuke Motomiya (Davis) so he could start his adventure as the DigiDestined leader in Digimon Adventure 02. This pair of goggles started a trend that has only been broken once throughout the series thanks to my personal favorite DigiDestined Marcus Damon (Masaru Daimon) of Digimon Data Squad, who refused to don his own pair of icon leader goggles. Officially titled The Memorial Digimon Goods: Taichi Goggles, this new item is now up for …

Bandai Premium Reveals The Digimon Adventure Tri Complete Selection Animation Digivice

Don’t be confused by the long name, and don’t be confused by the product itself, this is not a crazy knock-off toy, and this is NOT the same Digivice model Bandai announced quite some time ago in celebration of the franchise’s 15th anniversary…this product is on an entirely different level.  Most fans of Digimon, back when it first burst onto the scene, got the rare chance to grab themselves one of the original Digivices. I, unfortunately, was a little late to the party, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy the snacks and drinks. A while back, Bandai revealed that they will be releasing two new versions of the original Digivice; one modeled after Tai’s unit and the other modeled after Matt’s. Those, as mentioned above, were developed and released in celebration of the franchise’s 15th anniversary. While they did have some connection to brand-new series of movies titled Digimon Adventure Tri, they were mostly brought back to build hype and excite those of us who were fans long ago. As if that weren’t enough to get …

New PlayStation Vita Title Digimon World: Next Order Just Announced

No! No! This just isn’t fair! It seems like every single time the West gets even a little closer to Japan…they engage rocket boosters and speed off into the distance. Since the announcement of Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth, Western fans of the franchise have longed to get their hands on it. Finally, a Digimon game for the older fan! Bandai Namco Entertainment throws us a bone and announces that the game will indeed be coming to the West on both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita, albeit next year some time. Not a month after that, we’re hearing word of a brand-new Digimon game that’s in development; one called Digimon World: Next Order. The latest issue of Japan’s V-Jump magazine featured a two page spread regarding the new title yet, despite that, not a great deal of information on the game’s story or setting was revealed. What we know of the game is that it will centre around a young Digimon fanatic who’s two partners are Agumon and Gabumon, possibly meaning that the appearance of …

Digi-Prayers Answered – Bandai Namco Announces Western Release Of Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth

I woke up in a pretty good mood today but it has now been multiplied by a million thanks to some news straight from Bandai Namco Entertainment’s RPG panel at Anime Expo 2015 regarding the Western localisation of a Digimon video game that fans have been waiting for ever since they first dreamed of a more mature piece of Digital Monsters media. The game is called Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth, and it revolves around a young man or women, depending on your choice, who must travel between the real world and the Digital World in order to uncover the secrets behind a mysterious virus that’s spreading from human to human causing sickness and death. Of course, there to help are a whole bunch of Digimon who you’ll have to befriend, raise, train, and evolve in order to restore balance and retain peace in both worlds. Canada’s Amazon portal recently listed this Adventure/RPG as a PlayStation 4 title and fans finally found a shred of hope. Now, thanks to Bandai Namco Entertainment’s panel, we’ve been given something solid …

Could Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth Really Be Coming To The West?

The 2015 Electronic Entertainment Expo is now more or less over for the year. Fans were rocked by some incredible announcements and left unimpressed by others; much like the expo from last year, the year before, and every other one prior to that. It’s simply how these things go. Bandai Namco Games really brought their A-Game this year by announcing Dark Souls 3, alongside some other big titles, but one of the video games fans were hoping to hear about was simply not mentioned at all. That game is the PlayStation Vita’s own Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth; a Digimon video game made for the generation that grew alongside the franchise from conception to current times. This RPG title has been in the hearts and minds of the fans ever since it was announced and it will continue to stay that way until it is firmly in our hands. Well although it wasn’t spoken about at E3, it seems as though Amazon Canada want people in a bit of a fact-finding frenzy seeing as they’ve listed …

We’re Going Digital – New Digimon Figurines Revealed For Franchise 15th Anniversary

The more things change, the more they stay the same. Fifteen years later, Digimon: Digital Monsters is still going as strong as ever and while it’s presence here in the West isn’t as solid as it was back in the late 90’s, over in Japan it remains as one of the top monster taming franchises of all time. It’s no lie that other series’ similar to it like Pokemon and Yokai Watch are indeed taking over in terms of popularity, but Digimon still has one hell of a large fan base, and I feel as though it always will! At least…I hope it does. Most fans of Japanese pop culture will know that we’re currently celebrating the series’ 15th Anniversary, which seems as though it has been going on for longer than you’d usually celebrate something of this type. Because of this momentous occasion, many manufacturers out there have decided that now is the perfect time to release some brand-new merchandise lines. Smart! Ever since the anniversary celebrations began we’ve seen things like new figurines, …

Digimon Adventure Tri – First Anime Preview Released

It’s taken months of hype-building and a release delay but today marks a wonderful time in the lives of all Digimon fans the world over because we’ve just been gifted the very first look of what the actual Anime production is going to be like! Up until now all we saw were teaser images and videos that worked very well to get the hearts of the fans pumping, but left them wanting so much more…I suppose that’s the whole point of a teaser, right? It doesn’t matter! When I comes to Digimon, I’m the type of guy who wants all or nothing! The great country of Japan has been hosting a television marathon of the original Digimon Adventure Anime which ended with the preview that I’ve provided for you just below this post. Shocking audiences and causeing some to even break down and cry, this preview shows off the entire main cast, their Digimon pals, and the voice talents who will be lending their mastery to their respective characters. It was also revealed that this …

Netflix Available In Australia, Now Another Source Of Legal Anime Streaming

Despite what Nexflix WANTS you to believe…it is a service that allows you to watch a great deal more than just “Orange Is The New Black”. The fantastic movie and series streaming service has only just hit Australian shores and at only a day in I’m sure most Australians with a good internet connection have signed up for their one month free trial. The first thing I did when I loaded it up on my PlayStation 4? I checked to see what Anime series’ are available to watch as a whole. The second thing I did was, once again, watch the final episode of “Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood”…the third thing I did was cry myself to sleep because, no matter what I do in life, it will never compare to the majesty of that series. Obviously there’s a lot more on Netflix than Anime, if anything, thew medium is greatly outnumbered by Western productions which is fine because, well, it’s only just now picking up a mainstream Western audience. It’s only natural. A lot of what you …

This New “Digimon Adventure Tri” Promotional Image Looks Oddly Familiar

We’re now in March; the third month of the new year. This means, in only a months time, the new season of “Digimon Adventure” will begin airing and long-time fans of the series will finally be able to catch up with their long lost friends; the original Digidestined. Just incase hype for this new addition to the already expansive “Digimon” lineage wasn’t already at an all-time high, a new official image from the upcoming Anime has surfaced just over the past couple days and what we’re seeing is all too familiar. To the right of this article, as I’m sure you already know, is the newly released promotional image from “Digimon Adventure Tri” which shows the main cast of the Anime just “hanging out” in and around an abandoned train car. This is not the first time we’ve seen something like this from the original Digi-crew, in fact, we’ve seen this train car quite a few times over the series and it only ever seems to get more decrepit. I suppose that’s what it is …

Bandai Releases A New Trailer For The Classic Digivice, Praise Jesmon!

You may not quite be aware but this year marks the 15th anniversary for the much-loved monster taming series “Digimon: Digital Monsters”. What started off as a range of combat-ready virtual pets developed specifically for young men has now become one of the world’s most well-known merchandising juggernauts second only to that of “Pokemon”, and I’m not even sure that’s entirely correct. Despite it’s drop off in popularity here in the West, “Digimon” has stayed in the hearts of all the fans that grew up with it and has continued to thrive over in it’s birthplace Japan. Fifteen years later, the pop culture world is preparing to celebrate the franchise’s many years of growth and prosperity. Bandai, the company behind “Digimon”, is very much leading those preparations by releasing a slew of new “Digimon-based” items as well as re-releasing some of the “classics”. One I’m sure you all know about is the original “Digivice” which has undergone a bit of an upgrade and is on the verge of a secondary release to contemporary audiences. Despite hearing of …

Always Wanted To Be A DigiDestined? These Replica Tags And Crests Can Help With That!

It’s obvious that you remember the original “Digimon Adventure” Anime series. If you didn’t know what it was I don’t think you would have even clicked through to the article but I know for a fact that anyone who did will not be disappointed! Bandai have just announced that they are planning to release a special new item as part of their “Digimon” 15th Anniversary celebrations that will go very well with the remakes of the original “Digivices”. I bet, if you’re anything like me, you were one of the kids that looked at the glowing necklaces of the “DigiDestined” and said; “Dang! I wish I had one of them!”, well now in 2015 you’ll be able to get yourself an official Bandai-made replica. Yes, the new item that has already been put of for pre-order is indeed a replica of the original Tags and Crests from the first “Digimon Adventure” series. Courage, Friendship, Love, Sincerity, Knowledge, Reliability, Hope, Light, and Kindness are all featured, with every purchase also landing the buyer a 70cm necklace so …

Digimon Adventure Tri – Taichi And Agumon Full Character Designs Revealed

Let’s start from the top: So far, what we’ve been shown regarding the latest “Digimon” Anime instalment “Digimon Adventure Tri” isn’t actually that much. We’ve seen a silhouette of the main cast, we’ve seen a confusing promotional image that pretty much hid most of their full designs by interlocking each of the characters, and we’ve seen a lot of teasers that make you think you’re going to see something awesome but instead your just left with the teaser. Hence the title “teaser”. It’s all starting to change though thanks to the latest issue of Shueisha’s V-Jump Magazine which has finally revealed, in full view, the designs of both Taichi Kamiya and Agumon. Now the first big thing you’ll pick up on is that, surprise, they both look very different from the first season. Yep, that’s because Taichi is a few years older and has been designed by an entirely different person. Ever heard of the hit sci-fi movie “Cencoroll” which was basically developed by one sole person? Well that one sole person, Atsuya Uki, is …

SnapThirty Presents: Two Idiots Play “Digimon World”

Hey, everybody! Remember all those video games you would go to your friends places to play back when you were a little younger? Yeah, all those games that you didn’t have but you knew someone else did so you’d go and hang out with them just to get the chance to have a go? Well, seeing as I didn’t have a PlayStation One as a kid, the game that kept me going over to my next door neighbours house was none other than the original “Digimon World”. I was never as lucky as my fellow writer Kane Bugeja, he had a PlayStation One AND “Digimon World” but back then the only way he could have gotten through it is by using cheats. Many years after the game was first released, Kane and I decided we’d do a little something special in celebration of the upcoming “Digimon Adventure Tri” Anime series which is set to air this year; we took a trip back in time to play “Digimon World” as adults and, without giving too much away…it …

Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth – Get It Early And Nab Yourself An Omnimon Zwart…Eventually

There’s this awesome new trend in the video game industry where publishers and developers will offer certain bonuses to people in the world who pre-order one of their titles or who buy it as quickly as they possibly can. We call these “Day One Bonuses”, “Pre-Order Bonuses” and other variations of that because, well…that’s exactly what they are. Most games will offer quick buyers some sort of reward for doing so like an alternate costume for the main character, some powerful weapons to put you ahead of the game or even some new levels to play through. Either way, it’s all a marketing campaign to get people to buy the game straight away and, as long as they’re giving me free stuff, I couldn’t care less. Bandai Namco Games Japan (soon to be Bandai Namco Entertainment) announced that their upcoming PlayStation Vita title “Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth” is going to have its very own “Day One Edition” which gifts players two extra Digimon to add to their team at the start of the game: Black …

Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth Is The Game We’ve Always Wanted And The New Trailer Proves It

So Japan are getting themselves a new game in the March of next year. Maybe you’ve heard of it; it’s called “Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth” and it features everything a long-time “Digimon” fan like myself could have ever asked for. Not only is it a contemporary “Digimon” video game (which is enough to get anybody excited) but it also plays host to some of the most awesome graphics I’ve ever seen in a franchise title as well as some of my favorite “Digimon” of all time. It also helps that it is a PlayStation Vita game, of which I happen to be a huge fanboy. Well Bandai Namco Games Japan have today released a new trailer for the upcoming game that goes for a whopping five minutes and basically outlines, in video form, all the information we’ve been delivered over the past few months in written form only. For those of you who’ve been living under a rock, or something large and solid similar to a rock: “Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth” follows a young hero, male or …

First Look at the New ‘Digimon’ Anime, How Do The Digidestined Look After All These Years?

The official countdown website for the upcoming 15th anniversary anime series Digimon Adventure Tri has revealed a key visual art featuring the complete cast of digidestined now clearly older yet still filled with that youthful spirit that embodied these characters during the shows original run 15 years ago. The character design work for the series is being handled by Atsuya Uki the man behind the sublime anime series Tsuritama. On top of that Keitaro Motonaga of Date A Live fame will be directing the series. No specific launch date has been set as of yet for Digimon Adventure Tri but this digimaniac hopes that it comes sooner rather than later. You can check out the key visual art showcasing the matured digidestined below. Anyone else feel a little bit of a chill on the nape of the neck? No, just me? -30-

Digimon All-Star Rumble Review

Digimon. Digital Monsters. Digimon are the champions. If your read that in tune then congratulations, you’re awesome and we are now friends. If you didn’t, then you must be a newcomer to the Digital World. Which makes me a little sad, but we can still be friends. Anyway, welcome to the Digital World, a place jam packed with wondrous creatures who possess the ability to transform into even more wondrous creatures at will. It’s kinda the coolest. But such a world is not without its problems. Though, they may not be the ones you’d expect… Peace. The ultimate goal of good guys everywhere. If you stand for justice, you stand for peace, you fight for peace, you sacrifice for peace. So, what happens when you actually get peace? I mean, the battle is over, the adventure is done, what’s left? These are all questions that the Digimon now find themselves plagued with. Having defeated evil multiple times, the Digital World is experiencing a long running and well deserved break from chaos and combat…and man is it boring. …

Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth – Introducing Rie and Crusadermon

There’s not much that excites me more than the prospect of a new ‘Digimon’ video game. Unfortunately for me and my ‘Digimon-loving’ brothers and sisters, the last couple of games to be announced and released…never made it out of Japan. I know…soul crushing. That’s OK though because we’re all keeping up hope. We’re praing to all the Digi-Gods we know as we practically beg Bandai Namco Games to bring some of these titles out West. The latest piece of news from the upcoming ‘Digimon Story’ game, ‘Syber Sleuth’, is the addition of two new characters to the story. One being a human and the other being a high-level ‘Digimon’, these two will play quite a set of important roles in the events of the game. Why else would they be introducing us to them early? Previously revealed was a character named Kyoko Kuremi who, if you dont recall, is a super sexy female detective with legs that go on for ages…*cough cough*…Excuse me. Well the new character introuced today happens to be just as sexy …

Digimon All-Star Rumble – New Trailer and Screenshots Straight From NYCC

Bandai Namco games have done the ‘Digimon’ fandom a real solid and released a brand-new trailer alongside some seriously exciting screenshots of their upcoming fighting game title ‘Digimon All-Star Rumble’ ahead of this weekend’s New York Comic Con where we’ll be seeing much more from the much0loved video game developer/publisher. The trailer, much like the initial one that was released, takes audiences through a couple battles between ‘Digimon’ series favourites like Veemon, Gomamon and Gatomon. It shows ‘Digivolutions’ and special techniques that can be pulled off in-game. It’s the new screenshots, though, that are the more exciting of the new information because they introduce the world to the ‘Digimon All-Star Rumble’ story mode. This gameplay mode, featured in many if not all fighting games, will serve is the single player experience wherein which you’ll choose your favorite digital partner to take on a whole bunch of different enemies before going head-to-head with a ‘Digimon Rival’ which will signify the end of a level. Supposedly playing through the story mode will bring more about the games …

Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth – Sexy Lady Detective Character Revealed

Flowing blonde hair, open shirt, short shorts, high heels and one tough looking muscle car. I think I’ve found my dream girl, reader. The latest issue of Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump has introduced Japanese readers to a brand-new character who’s set to star alongside the protagonist of Bandai Namco’s upcoming PlayStation Vita title ‘Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth’. This ‘beautiful detective’, as she’s called, goes by the name Kyoko Kuremi but you can call her Miss Kuremi. This newly revealed character is an ace detective and you’ll be seeing her a great deal throughout the game as she will be giving you, the ‘Cyber Sleuth’, all of your investigative missions. She, like you, has heard about the recent incidents involving young men and women traveling to the ‘digital world’. It’s piqued her interest and she now wants to figure it out as best she can…that’s where you come in. Not much more is said about this glamor but she’s interesting enough to have caught the attention of many ‘Digimon’ fans around the world. We can’t wait …

Digimon All-Star Rumble – Bandai Namco Reveals ‘Digicard’ System

We’re here, people. Tokyo Game Show is happening as we speak and from the expo comes a whole bunch of news about some awesome upcoming Japanese video game titles, one of which just so happens to be my most anticipated; ‘Digimon All-Star Rumble’. The game, which was announced by Bandai Namco about a month or so ago, pits Digimon against Digimon in much the same style as the PlayStation 2 ‘Digimon’ fighting game ‘Digimon Rumble Arena’. Featuring characters from the original season all the way up until the latest season, this game is the first from the ‘Digimon’ franchise in quite a while that WILL be getting a Western release. Bandai Namco Games today, at the Tokyo Game Show, released a whole new batch of screenshots and character models from the game that not only show us more of what it has to offer but also introduces us to the ‘Digicard’ system which is a gameplay mechanic that allows players to add special bonuses and upgrades to their digital partner. Two ‘Digicards’ can be equipped …

Digimon Adventure Anime Sequel – New Teaser Image Revealed

The official website for the upcoming Digimon Adventure Anime sequel was only just updated and it now features a new teaser image/message that is, in short; so very heart-warming. Heading over to the site, you’ll be confronted by a furry little guy called Botamon who happens to be the baby form of the franchise mascot Agumon. Clicking on the egg which appears on the site, will have Botamon hatch. After it hatches you can interact with it by petting the cutie. After it has had its fill, it will offer you another clickable icon which, when clicked, will open up another browser window that just so happens to feature the image you can see above. Appearing in both Japanese and/or English, this little message to the Digimon fans basically outlines the start of a 17 year old Tai’s morning of which I assume we’ll be seeing once the first episode of the Anime airs. Though short, it’s written beautifully and really gets the heart pumping. When there’s hype to be built, this seems like the …

Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth – Fear The Eden Syndrome!

‘Digimon’ shouldn’t be the only thing a human is scared of, especially when they’re living in the world of ‘Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth’ where a digital disease is more damaging than any metallic monster you’d see wandering the net. Being a ‘Digidestined’ used to be easy: A beam of benevolent light would shine down upon you, a small device would appear in your hand and you’d eventually find a digi-pal to hang with while you battle the forces of evil…That’s not so much the case in the upcoming PlayStation Vita exclusive. 4Gamers, the Japanese online publication, today updated their site to include a bunch of extra information regarding the upcoming game, most of which happens to revolve around this strange new disease and a monochromatic character you’ll meet while investigating. Heading into cyberspace in ‘Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth’ is actually quite bad for your health, so check yourself before you digi-wreck yourself. Those who have come into contact with ‘Digimon’ and are constantly coming back and forth between the real world and what is …

Yammering About Yokai – The Tengu And Its Pop Culture Influences

In my opinion, there’s nothing more influential to Japanese Pop Culture than that of the country’s rich, folkloric past. While Western productions seem to have a tight grasp on more European myths and legends, Anime, Manga and Japanese-made video games are obviously more in tune with their own mythological history. When thinking back on mythology, a great deal of focus tends to lie in that of the Greeks and the Egyptians but I believe the most interesting folkloric people to be the Japanese. It is here I say “goodbye” to video games like ‘God Of War’, movies like ‘The Mummy’ and TV shows like ‘The Walking Dead’ to instead focus my time on the most influential and interesting mythos world history has to offer. Yokai are supernatural apparitions or creatures and usually the focus of stories passed down through history. They appear in many different forms and usually come with their very own specific supernatural powers of which the people within those stories are deathly afraid of. One of the more powerful Yokai, a being …

“Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth” Overview Trailer Released

Bandai Namco haven’t exactly shown us a great deal of what we’re to expect in the upcoming PlaStation Vita title ‘Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth’, but what we do have is just enough to whet our appetite and get us excited for what’s to come. Over the past couple of months, Bandai Namco have slowly but surely been releasing small batches of screenshots and short gameplay trailers just to get fans of the franchise into somewhat of a hype frenzy. Over the weekend the Japanese branch of Bandai Namco released a new trailer for the game that basically compiles most, if not all, of what we’ve seen up until now into a neat little package for us all to enjoy. It shows both the female and male main characters as well as their friends and possible ‘Digimon’ partners. The game is set for a Japanese release sometime in 2015 with no word as to whether or not it will be getting a Western release but hopefully, thanks to the signatures on THIS petition, we may actually …

“Digimon All-Star Rumble” – Gameplay Videos From Bandai Namco Event

Bandai Namco dropped a bomb over the weekend, one that has ‘Digimon’ fans the world over locked in a state of great anticipation and semi-disbelief. A brand-new fighting game was announced, titled ‘Digimon All-Star Rumble’ for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, but what makes this announcement as exciting as it is would probably have to be the fact that it is heading to the West within the next couple of months. ‘Digimon’ fans have been longing for a video game from the long-running series as of late and only now where we thrown a bone. That doesn’t matter though, I’m just happy we got something at all. After the morning of the anouncement, Bandai Namco games held a small event where players could try out new and upcoming games, one of which just so happened to be ‘Digimon All-Star Battle’. An event attendee got some time playing and managed to snag some fairly nice footage of the game. This user posted them up on Youtube and we’ve provided them for you just below. The …

“Digimon Adventure” Is On It’s Way Back With A New Anime Series In The Works

Now, OK, I’m kind of shaking while writing this right now but I’m going to try my best to keep as much composure as possible. It’s going to be hard though because this is downright the greatest news I’ve heard for quite some time. Avid ‘Digimon’ fans may be aware that this year marks the 15th anniversary of the ‘Digimon’ franchise. As celebration for this momentous occasion, we seen a few awesome ‘Digimon-centric’ releases, one of which being an actual re-release of the original ‘Digimon Adventure’ ‘Digivices’ which have been upgraded ever so slightly to bring audiences a new experience while also allowing them to tap into the deep seeded nostalgia that comes with it. Yesterday an event was held for the anniversary of the franchise where it was announced that plans to make an Anime series that will continue on from the story of the first season of ‘Digimon Adventure’ are already in the works. This series is set for a release in the Spring of next year and will star a seventeen year …

“Digimon All-Star Rumble” Announced For The West

This is absolutely amazing! For so long now ‘Digimon’ fans have been begging video game publishing companies like Namco Bandai to bring some sort of ‘Digimon’ game over to the West and finally they’ve answered our call with the announcement of a brand-new ‘Digital Monsters’ video game title that will actually be made available in both North America and Europe! Yosha! The newly-announced brawler title is called ‘Digimon All-Star Rumble’ and is somewhat reminiscent of the PlayStation classic ‘Digimon Rumble Arena’ a game I bought, loved and sorely miss to this day. The fighting game will feature a 4-player battle system that’ll have you and three of your best ‘Digi-Pals’ going head-to-head-to-head-to-head in the first ever “Digimon Evolution Tournament”. The game’s story is quite simple but seeing as it IS a fighting title I don’t think it necessarily has to have a story: The ‘Digital World’ is finally at peace. ‘Digimon’ are living in harmony and the forces of evil are nowhere to be seen, though…the ‘Digimon’ still long to take the next step in …

“Digimon: Digital Monsters” Season Two Collection Review

The sad truth is that, no matter what one does, evil will always be lurking within the darkness of shadows. The voices in our heads tell us to stand tall against adversity no matter how many times it tries to get you down and the only way to truly survive is to listen to those words and do as described. Never let the forces of negativity get you down. Always rise up time and time again because no matter how many battles you win, there will always be another just around the corner and this is all to evident for the cast of ‘Digimon: Digital Monsters’ who, after conquering the Dark Masters in the first season of the Anime, return alongside a group of other young ‘DigiDestined’ to save the ‘Digital World’ like they did all those years ago. Unfortunately this time they’ll be fighting a force much more formidable than the last. It has been three years since the events of the first season and we now follow a new group of ‘DigiDestined’ as …

15th Anniversary Special Edition Digivice Unveiled

A week or so ago Bandai released a teaser image on their premium online store that depicted two coloured silhouettes with a familiar shape. ‘Digimon’ fans the net over were quick to jump onto the idea that this ‘teaser’ depicted the original two ‘Digivices’ from the first season of the Anime series, one belonging to team leader Taichi ‘Tai’ Kamiya and the other belonging to the black sheep of the group Yamato ‘Matt’ Ishida. The teaser page on the website described this particular release as something older fans will remember but with certain features that are fresh, new and sure to get them excited. Today Bandai have updated their premium online store to no longer show a simple teaser image but the actual product itself and it’s exactly what we were all thinking…though it is still immeasurably exciting! This item is, for all intents and purposes, a re-release of the original ‘Digivice’ which you may remember featured in the first season of the long-running series. While looking almost exactly the same as they did fifteen …

“Digimon: Digital Monsters” Season One Collection Review

As a new man, barely in his twenties, I find myself looking forward to the future with hope in my heart and ambition coursing through my veins. With a positive outlook and an energetic disposition, day by day my anticipation and excitement of what is to come grows stronger but I constantly catch myself in daydreams of the past. Younger, better days. Times when the bulk of my focus was centered on a tiny, square, brick-like toy that had to do no more than ‘beep’ to get my attention. The days of the ‘virtual pet’; they were good ones indeed. The original ‘Digimon’ ‘V-Pets’, as they’re called, were basically Tamagotchis with ‘machismo’. You didn’t give your virtual pet a bow to wear or a ball to play with, that’s not how you train a killer! From the moment a ‘Digimon’ hatches it is put into rigorous training; shooting bubbles at punching bags or having to fight it’s own body double. Being a sequence of digital lines on a tiny screen is hard, especially when you’re …

Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth – ‘Mysterious Boy’, ‘Eater’ and New Character Yuuko Introduced

The digital world of the ‘Digimon’ franchise seems as though it’s a pretty straightforward plane of existence: It’s data precisely engineered to produce the monsters and environments that populate the world. What we tend to forget is that, much like real programs, the digital world can sometimes come across certain problems and I’m not just talking about the ‘Virus-type’ Digimon that exist in the digital world, I’m speaking of course about glitches. Famitsu’s online publication has released a couple of screenshots and some general descriptions for two new ‘apparitions’ that will be appearing within the upcoming game’s digital world. The ‘Mysterious Boy’ and the ‘Eater’, both of which are the sources for their own urban legends, are two glitches in the overall digital system said to be the cause of death and/or disappearance for many digital monsters and humans wandering too far down into the depth of the digital world. The ‘Mysterious Boy’, as he’s so blatantly titled, is a ghostly figure that appears before wanderers and essentially signifies their disconnection from the real world …

Beelzemon Replica Jacket Announced For Digimon’s 15th Anniversary

About two days ago (from the time this article was written) we got word from Bandai themselves that they, for the 15th anniversary of ‘Digimon’, will be releasing something very special. Now this piece of news came in the form of a teaser image that depicted two silhouettes reminiscent of the original ‘Digivices’ which belonged to characters Tai and Matt. This particular product has yet to be official announced but we here at SnapThirty have a pretty good idea of what it is. Here’s the thing; we thought that was going to be the end of it. We thought they would tease a huge release and that’s it but we were silly for doing so because news has come out of Japan today which details another ‘Digimon’ release related to it’s 15th anniversary. It was announced that a replica Beelzemon jacket alongside a leather card holder and t-shirt both designed around the leather-clad biker will also be released as part of the celebratory period which will last hopefully from now until at least the end …

The Shrinking Borders of the Digimon World: The Woes of Western Localisation

Cast your minds back, if you would, to a magical time known as 1999. The 21st century was still on the horizon and virtual pets were all the rage. Born out of some kind of business trickery that convinced children responsibility was fun (which it kinda was), these digital companions created a bond between man and machine that would never be undone…until the pet passed on and was immediately replaced by another. But then that bond would stand the test of limited time, until you left it alone to go to school, or play with friends, or watch TV…man, games used to be very clingy. But we loved ’em and one thing that Digimon had over Tamagotchi (the heavy hitters in virtual pet technology) was simple: battling. Boy was that fun. Raise your pet to be happy and healthy? Cool. Raise your pet to be happy, healthy and powerful? Awesome. But wait, what is that? Is it…an anime? Why yes, I believe it is. An anime born from a virtual pet, who would’ve guessed? But whatever …

There’s Something Special In Store For The 15th Anniversary Of ‘Digimon’

Can you believe it has almost been fifteen years!? You never really think about how long a franchise has been around until an anniversary celebration like this is announced. I remember my younger days, waking up early before I had to get ready for school, sitting down in front of the television and waiting for my favorite show to start; ‘Digimon Adventure’. From there my love for the series only grew. I collected every toy and game that I possibly could have. My folks, on the other hand, probably got sick of taking me to local toy stores every week looking for a specific character or digital device. I loved every minute of it; the anticipation, the travel, the wait in line and the obtaining of a new toy. There’s nothing like a child’s excitement and it’s something I’m sure Bandai is aware of. There has been a recent addition to the official Premium Bandai Store website which happens to feature a teaser image for an upcoming ‘Digimon’ release to celebrate it’s 15th Anniversary. This …

Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth – New Screenshots and Info Released

When it comes to ‘Digimon’, I consider myself somewhat of a master. A ‘Digimon Master’, if you will. It’s a series that I, as well as countless people the world over, grew up with and it has stuck with me to this day. I find myself saddened because of it’s lack of presence here in the West but I’m also joyed when reading that the franchise is continuing to expand even though it is lost in countries outside of Japan. The more people I talk to, the more I realize that there is indeed a market for the series in Western countries and my faith in the taste of the masses is, once again, restored. It’s days like today, days when Bandai Namco Games grace my computer screen with more ‘Digimon’ video game news, that I truly feel the sense of elation I once did as a young boy following the series. Bandai Namco Games Japan today updated the official ‘Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth’ website to include information regarding the main characters of the game …
