Sin and Bear It – Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony – Humble Opinions

To kill, or not to kill? That is the question that has been presented to us since Danganronpa first graced our consoles in years gone by. Now, the are very clear arguments for not slaughtering your fellow humans based solely on the statements of an animatronic bear, however those tend to fall by the wayside once the killing begins. Not a very fair balance of reasoning, I know, but fairness seldom rears its head in a Killing Game. But we shouldn’t have to worry about all of this, right? Danganronpa is over. The saga of Hope’s Peak wrapped itself up over a multitude of formats and brought closure to the chaos of Junko Enoshima, so she may never darken our minds with feelings of Despair…right? Okay, so the drama of that introduction loses some of its lustre considering you all know Danganronpa is definitely not finished (if not, congrats for making it this far without reading the title). But I’m going to ignore that and just relish in the melodrama of it all regardless, partly …

Danganronpa the Animation – Review

Ever had one of those days? You know the one, when nothing goes your way, when the seconds slowly tic toc away all of your energy and you just wish for that timely pal night to roll around. Everyone has had at least one twenty four hour block like that. But then there are those other days, the ones that bleed into each other and cause your bad day to become a bad week, then a bad month, then further and further up the temporal scale until the bitter end. Be they forces external or in, the ends most assuredly outweigh the means. But don’t get to glib on me friendos, because as cliche as despair is within the collective psyche of the world, so too is hope, the older brother of negativity who turns up to whip people back into a forward stride. Sure he might not be on time and sure he could use a little work in the tact department, the fact remains that hope still turns up eventually. Of course fiction …

V3 Promoted and 3 Announced, Danganronpa is a Busy Franchise

Danganronpa, that oddball little series that relishes in the term dark comedy and throws subtlety out of the highest window it can find. Ah, but what fun that makes. Well, luckily for those Trigger Happy Havocers out there, the third numbered title (fifth actual, or fourth if you discount the Japan only iOS game) New Danganronpa V3: Everyone’s New Semester of Killing, has received a brief promotional trailer. Though the visuals don’t show a tremendous amount, they’re enough to know that the game will continue with the style of the main series games. The accompanying information however says that gameplay will be an “evolution” of the previous system, leaving plenty of room for everyone to speculate just how Monokuma will screw us over this time. That bear jerk. The video itself also posses the question as to whether or not you can use lies, as they change the world, leading at least myself to believe that there may be more than one way to reach the desired judgement during a trial, but that’s merely supposition on my …

The Despair Continues – Spike Chunsoft Announces Danganronpa V3

Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls has finally been released across the globe. Spike Chunsoft, the developers of the Danganronpa series of depressing but enjoyable video games, understand that the world has now been given the chance to thoroughly enjoy their last amazing title, but what they also understand is that, because it was so enjoyable…people want more of it. That is what makes the announcement of Danganronpa V3 at the Sony Computer Entertainment Japan Asia Press Conference so much sweeter! Yes! Danganronpa V3! The despair continues perpetually! Not much about the game was actually revealed at the conference. Although Spike Chunsoft did reveal a teaser trailer for the game…not much was said or shown. All Spike Chunsoft have told the world is that there’s going to be a new Danganronpa game set in a new school, and it will be released not only on the PlayStation Vita like it’s predecessors but also on the PlayStation 4. That is all. Regardless of the lack of information detailed to worldwide audience…I’m sure everyone interested in Danganronpa …

Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls Review

Hope versus despair. Despair versus hope. An ever present, ever shifting conflict that takes place beneath the surface of humanity. Undermining everything, determining how people view the world and those who reside within it. But is it as simple as all that? Of course not. People rarely stop and take the time to think about these driving forces because, in all honesty, it isn’t necessary in day to day life. Stopping and stalling to mull over the truths of the world each and every time you make a choice is woefully inefficient and probably not too good for mental health, existentially speaking. But what about those moments where deep thought rears its head and barrels towards shallower waters? When people are forced to bear all and witness themselves? What happens then? Of course, said situation may or may not also be compounded by a merciless army of mechanical miscreants, throwing yet another wrench into the proverbial, hypothetical machine…but we’ll deal with that if it happens. Sooo…it happened. that thing I mentioned earlier, about the army …

Class is in Session Again – Danganronpa Another Episode Nets Some New Screenshots

Some students just can’t catch a break can they? Just when you think all of the craziness is over, when all of the problems of the world are on their way towards a solution, Monokuma pops his 50/50 face back into frame and stirs things up once more. This particular jaunt of chaos, Monokuma has stands alongside a group of unique children who have decided to create their ultimate paradise…by removing all adults. Owing to its nature as “Another Episode” this particular instalment in the Danganronpa franchise takes a divergence from the established gameplay mechanics, adding some more action to the courtroom. Namely, this is done by giving you a Hacking Gun and taking you out of the courtroom…hooray for the justice process. In more official, and relevant-to-this-particular-article, terms: “This new batch of screenshots demonstrates the power of the eight types of Truth Bullets in your arsenal. Switching between bullets such as Break, Burn, Dance, Detect, Knockback, Link, Move, and Paralyze, the player can control Komaru and utilize these in order to traverse Towa City. …

Are you ready to feel absolute despair? Too bad! NIS America has today announced that the upcoming PlayStation Vita title Danganronpa: Another Episode – Ultra Despair Girls is set to hit the West this September. Yes, the publisher/developer has revealed the official release dates for both Europe and North America today, and they’re a great deal closer than you would have imagined. September 2015 is officially despair month seeing as most of the people playing the game aren’t going to be feeling anything but depression until they finish this twisted title. Different to the mainstream Danganronpa titles, Another Episode is not the courtroom simulator you think it is, in fact, it’s the total opposite. This new game takes players on a wild third-person shooter adventure set in a time wherein which the apocalypse has come about and the Earth is now ruled by those who worship despair. Your mission? Well, …

Good Grief – NIS America Reveals Danganronpa: Another Episode Limited Edition Pack

The Danganronpa series of despair-inducing video games is all about gruesome murders, heart-pounding trials, and watching the people you’ve come to call friends slowly betray you in every single way they possibly can…so why the hell are we always so excited for another game in the series to come out? All it ever does is bring is pain, but I guess it’s that good kind of pain, the one you feel when you get punched in the face by someone you love; it hurts a whole bunch but you still love them so you let it slide. NIS America have today revealed the Limited Edition pack for the upcoming Danganronpa Spin-off Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls which takes a nice break from the usual court-based gameplay of your standard Danganronpa game and replaces it with some pretty rad-looking third person shooter mechanics. It’s kind of hard to hate that right? Look, you should know about all this already because it was announced a long time ago and ever since then Nippon ichi Software have delivered …

Danganronpa 3 Is In Development…But You Won’t Be Seeing It For Quite Some Time

I woke up this morning feeling pretty happy. I went to bed early, I got a good sleep, I got up feeling refreshed, but something just wasn’t right. If anything, I was TOO happy and I needed to nip that in the bud before I got any happier. Thank the Lords above that this news came about because a little despair is exactly what I needed to bring back down to the level. Kodaka Kazutaka, while conversing with some very lucky people over at Polygon, revealed that the third “Danganronpa” video game is indeed in development but that a huge percentage of it is still very much in the early stages. As of right now, says Kazutaka, the game has yet to have been written but that’s what the team is working on presently. Fact is; “Danganronpa 3” IS coming…it will just be a while before we actually see it completed and released. That’s fine though, because all the good fans need to know is that it is indeed on the way. After the incredible …

NIS America Is Bringing “Danganronpa: Another Episode” To The West This Fall

With every good video game there comes a sequel, with a great video game series like “Danganronpa” there comes not only sequels but spin-off titles, with every in-depth series there comes unanswered questions, and with every unanswered question there eventually comes a suitable answer. Surely by now you’ve heard of the story-bridging “Danganronpa” title “Another Episode” right? Well, if you haven’t, it’s a third-person shooter that follows a cast of new and old characters in the “real world” the “Danganronpa” series is set. With no “Trials” or “Investigations”, your job as the main character is to fight off the forces of the terrorising Monokuma robots and try your darnedest to help the rebels take back the world which has been plunged into darkness. Komaru Naegi, little sister to Makoto Naegi, has been imprisoned inside a mysterious apartment for over a year. One day, she is rescued by Byakuya Togami of Future Foundation, but the rescue is derailed by a sudden attack of hundreds of Monokumas. Komaru soon discovers that the city has been taken over …

Danganronpa: Unlimited Blade – The Very First Mobile Game In The Series

Now THIS is what “Danganronpa” fans have been asking for ever since the release of the first game! Yes, this is true; Spike Chunsoft have today announced that they will soon be releasing an iOS/Mobile game titled “Danganronpa: Unlimited Blade” which, unlike the rest of the titles in the series, will feature no real puzzle solving and, in fact, none of the gameplay elements fans of the series have come to know and love. This upcoming free-to-play game will star the main cast of the first “Danganronpa” game and will play host to a gameplay style somewhat similar to that of “Angry Birds”. Basically you choose a team of your four favorite characters and use slingshot-like touch controls to send them flying into enemies. Spike Chunsoft have also said that each of the characters are going to have spoken dialogue lines during “action scenes”, whatever that means, and that each of the voice artists from the main game will reprise their roles for this one. As of right now that’s all we really know about the …

There’s a New Addition To The “Danganronpa” Franchise – We’re In For A Whole New World Of Despair

I woke up this morning thinking to myself; “how can this world get any sadder?”, that’s when I discovered that there’s going to be a new addition to the devilish “Danganronpa” series and it’s NOT going to be another game.  No, this time the world will be getting a serving of despair in the form of a novel written by the critically acclaimed Japanese writer Yuya Sato. Sorry to mislead you but my inner Monokuma forced me to. This was announced through the novelists Twitter where he stated that he has begun working on a novel that will extend the already huge “Danganronpa” universe. I’m not too sure who it was that actually hired Sato to begin writing but my assumption is that it is Monokuma himself who, as you may know, is the pinnacle of death, destruction and despair in the world right now…bar none. No details regarding the actual story of the novel have been released but I’m very much hoping that we’ll hear something about it very, very soon. My assumption? It’s …

Danganronpa: Another Episode – Overview Video Released

Spike Chunsoft and Nippon Ichi Software’s upcoming ‘Danganronpa’ video game spinoff title ‘Another Episode’ is slowly approaching it’s official release and it’s driving fans of the series absolutely crazy simply because it looks so damn good! Bridging the gap between ‘Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc’ and ‘Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair’ which has just been released around the world, ‘Danganronpa: Another Episode’ tells the story of what was happening in the outside world during the time of the Monokuma invasion. This is something that doesn’t get detailed too greatly in the main video games. Switching from the puzzle genre to the third person shooter genre, ‘Another Episode’ puts players in the shoes of Komaru Naegi as she tries to survive in a world where robot bears are uprising and killing all who stand in their way. She, alongside a team of freedom fighters, must now battle day and night in the hopes that they can overthrow what is looking to be one of the most powerful tyrannical regimes in fictional history. Armed with a modded bullhorn, you …

Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair – Now Available Across Australia and New Zealand

Awww yiss! It is finally here, people! Get ready to be sent into a world filled only with death and sadness, but one that you’ll have a good time trying to survive in. NIS America are extremely proud to announce that their beloved video game sequel ‘Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair’ has finally been made available through the Australian/New Zealand PlayStation Network for all wannabee detectives to finally sink their teeth into. The rest of the world has already gotten their copies of the game and now it’s time for us to prove just have good we are at solving murders. For those of you who aren’t aware, I’ll give you a little hint; we’re very, very good at solving murders…VERY good. Unfortunately the only way we’ll be able to get this game is digitally seeing as it will not be released down here physically. That’s fine though because with a file size that’s just over 1500mb, there wont be one of you who’ll miss out due to a ‘lack of space’. Why are you still …

Not A Fan Of Fighting? That’s OK! ‘Danganronpa: Another Episode’ Has Got You Covered!

Allow me to start off by saying; I actually know a couple of people who enjoy video games but don’t enjoy video game combat, so it makes sense that some people out there would just rather experience a story instead of unnecessarily slaughtering waves and waves of enemies. Me? Well…I’m a little different, violence is kind of my thing. The upcoming video game spinoff title ‘Danganronpa: Another Episode’ recently got a bit more interesting with Spike Chunsoft releasing information regarding a couple of the game’s difficulty settings. The most intriguing of the trio would have to be the easiest mode that allows for players to take a non-combat approach to the game. In ‘Genocide Mode’, players will be able summon the insane Genocider Jill who you may remember from the first ‘Danganronpa’ game. Good ol’ Genocider will jump out of nowhere and carve up all the enemies in your path allowing you to stroll on through the beautiful environments until you reach a cutscene. This can be done approximately infinity times throughout the game, also…there’s …

NIS America Releases A New Batch Of “Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair” Screenshots

NIS America have pleased fans, once again, today by releasing a brand-new batch of screenshots from their upcoming ‘Danganronpa’ title ‘Goodbye Despair’. With only a month or so left until the game gets an official release, NIS America have decided that their fans deserve a little more enticement so they’ve gone ahead and released a series of eight new screenshots which just so happen to depict some of the upgraded gameplay mechanics that will feature in the new game. ‘Logic Dive’, ‘Hangman’s Gambit’ and the ‘Rebuttal Showdown’ each get their fair share of the spotlight in these screenshots as they’re introduced to the audience for the very first time. The ‘Logic Dive’ is a gameplay state where players must ride a mental skateboard down the path of truth as they’re confronted by questions from others which must be overcome to be able to continue on your way. The ‘Hangman’s Gambit’ is a type of spelling side game that has you try your hand at spelling out a word using singular letters that are flying across …

“Danganronpa: Another Episode” Official Website Update Information

How would you deal with a robot bear uprising? Hide in a corner until you’re inevitably found and killed or stand tall and fight back against the fuzzy force that oppresses you?! I would probably go with the ‘hide in corner’ option but in the recently announced ‘Danganronpa’ third-person shooter title ‘Another Episode’, you don’t really have a choice. Set in between the games ‘Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc’ and ‘Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair’, this game tells the story of Komaru Naegi as she fights to survive in the now-apocalyptic Towa City. The forces of Monokuma, the series antagonist, have risen up and taken hold of the once peaceful city, killing all those who stand their ground. Spike Chunsoft, Japanese video game developer, have today updated the official website for the game revealing more information regarding the new characters which were showcased in the latest issue of Japan’s ‘Famitsu’ magazine and explaining more about the odd but affective weapon of the game’s hero. Komaru, as you may already know, wields a weapon made specifically to take …

Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair for PS Vita gets Release Date and Trailer

NIS America have today confirmed the release date for the upcoming PS Vita title Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair. The game is said to be slated for a release on September 12th, 2014. Alongside the announcement of the release date, NIS America also dropped a brand new trailer for Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair to build up some hype for the upcoming game. The game follows on from the success of Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc the first game in the series. Check out the trailer below and say Goodbye to Despair. With this title the future certainly is beginning to look brighter for the struggling PS Vita which has unfortunately struggled to find its footing in the handheld market since its launch back in 2012. It is great to see that companies such as NIS America are supporting the platform with great titles such as this. -30-
