Dragon Quest X Set To Hit The 3DS This September

Do you love ‘Dragon Quest’? How about Massive Multiplayer Online games? Do you love them? If your answer was ‘yes’ than you’re in the right place because ‘Square Enix’ today announced that their supremely popular MMORPG “Dragon Quest X’ will soon be making it’s home on the Nintendo 3DS. The game, which fuses the RPG elements of the ‘Dragon Quest’ series with the communal gaming style of a modern MMO, was released some time ago on the Wii and Wii U as well as on Android and Windows mobile devices but only now has it been announced to be making its way to the 3DS.

This seems quite strange but overwhelmingly exciting; an MMO on a handheld console! Has this ever been done before? This is the first I’m hearing of it! What is odd about this particular release is that the game requires you to connect to the internet every couple of hours as offline play doesn’t offer nearly as much as it’s online counterpart. This will make it hard for traveling gamers, most of which would own a 3DS because of this reason, to fully enjoy the game. Much like the smartphone version of the game, the 3DS version will be playable using cloud stream software. The upcoming game will be unable to utilize the system’s 3D capabilities so players will just have to readjust to the flat visuals that the 3DS has tried so hard to eliminate.

‘Dragon Quest X’, like most MMO titles, features a monthly subscription fee. The game itself will be sold for ¥3,800 (US$38), a 3-day pass for ¥350 (US$3.50), a 10-day pass for ¥650 (US$6.50), and a 30-day pass will cost players ¥1,500 (US$15). Unfortunately this is news just for Japanese gamers, nothing has been said about a Western release for the title but seeing as it’s predecessors never made it to local shores, I doubt this one will be any different. Remember though; I don’t know everything and, in fact, I hope I’m wrong as I’d love to see this game get a release outside of Japan. I suppose we’ll just have to wait and see…stay hopeful, reader, you never know what is just around the corner.
