Monster Hunter Celebrates 10th Anniversary with Golden Felyne

On the Venn Diagram of life, the crossover of video game fans and those with gratuitous amounts of money to burn is somewhat of a mysterious area. But if you should happen to fall within that realm, have I got some news for you. Are you a fan of Monster Hunter? Do you like gold? Do you possess at least 2,990,000 yen? If you answered no to any of these questions then I’m afraid you shan’t be the owner of a brand new 24 karat Felyne statue, which stands at 3.5 inches and weighs 0.26lbs. If you however emphatically answered in the positive, I feel it necessary to inform you that there is a limit of 10 statues per customer. Pretty limiting am I right? (Note: That was a joke, these things are mondo expensive) [via Siliconera] -30-

NIS America Releases A New Batch Of “Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair” Screenshots

NIS America have pleased fans, once again, today by releasing a brand-new batch of screenshots from their upcoming ‘Danganronpa’ title ‘Goodbye Despair’. With only a month or so left until the game gets an official release, NIS America have decided that their fans deserve a little more enticement so they’ve gone ahead and released a series of eight new screenshots which just so happen to depict some of the upgraded gameplay mechanics that will feature in the new game. ‘Logic Dive’, ‘Hangman’s Gambit’ and the ‘Rebuttal Showdown’ each get their fair share of the spotlight in these screenshots as they’re introduced to the audience for the very first time. The ‘Logic Dive’ is a gameplay state where players must ride a mental skateboard down the path of truth as they’re confronted by questions from others which must be overcome to be able to continue on your way. The ‘Hangman’s Gambit’ is a type of spelling side game that has you try your hand at spelling out a word using singular letters that are flying across …

Each of which will come battle-ready with all four attack slots filled and a nature that suits the ‘Pokemon’ itself. This event will run from the 13th of August all the way up until the 17th of September and will coincide with a special Mega Stone distribution event which will be run by Gamestop stores around the country. Stop in at any Gamestop between the 18th of August and the 31st of August to receive a special code that, once put into the game, will …

“Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth” Overview Trailer Released

Bandai Namco haven’t exactly shown us a great deal of what we’re to expect in the upcoming PlaStation Vita title ‘Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth’, but what we do have is just enough to whet our appetite and get us excited for what’s to come. Over the past couple of months, Bandai Namco have slowly but surely been releasing small batches of screenshots and short gameplay trailers just to get fans of the franchise into somewhat of a hype frenzy. Over the weekend the Japanese branch of Bandai Namco released a new trailer for the game that basically compiles most, if not all, of what we’ve seen up until now into a neat little package for us all to enjoy. It shows both the female and male main characters as well as their friends and possible ‘Digimon’ partners. The game is set for a Japanese release sometime in 2015 with no word as to whether or not it will be getting a Western release but hopefully, thanks to the signatures on THIS petition, we may actually …

“Digimon All-Star Rumble” – Gameplay Videos From Bandai Namco Event

Bandai Namco dropped a bomb over the weekend, one that has ‘Digimon’ fans the world over locked in a state of great anticipation and semi-disbelief. A brand-new fighting game was announced, titled ‘Digimon All-Star Rumble’ for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, but what makes this announcement as exciting as it is would probably have to be the fact that it is heading to the West within the next couple of months. ‘Digimon’ fans have been longing for a video game from the long-running series as of late and only now where we thrown a bone. That doesn’t matter though, I’m just happy we got something at all. After the morning of the anouncement, Bandai Namco games held a small event where players could try out new and upcoming games, one of which just so happened to be ‘Digimon All-Star Battle’. An event attendee got some time playing and managed to snag some fairly nice footage of the game. This user posted them up on Youtube and we’ve provided them for you just below. The …

“Mega Man Battle Network” Now Available On The Wii U + More Games To Come

If you’ve been following recent news very closely you may be aware that today Capcom has official re-released the ‘Mega Man’ GameBoy Advanced title ‘Battle Network’ on the Wii U. It was announced just over a week ago that the game would be getting a release and you probably thought that would be the most exciting thing about today but it isn’t. Alongside making ‘Mega Man Battle Network’ available for those of you lucky enough to own a Wii U, Capcom also announced that they have plans to release one ‘Mega Man’ game for each week in August. That’s fantastic! What’s more fantastic? They’ve gone ahead and revealed what games will be coming to the console and they’re as follows: ‘Mega Man 5’, ‘Mega Man 6’, ‘Mega man X3’ and ‘Mega Man Battle Chip Challenge’. This is brilliant news for fans of the ‘Blue Bomber’, it’ll be like a month-long Christmas and every week you can buy yourself a new present. For now, I say go ahead an enjoy ‘Battle Network’ which, once again is …

Persona 4 Arena Ultimax – Trailers Released For Akihiko Sanada and Aigis

ATLUS have done it again! It’s been about a week at this point in time since ATLUS last released screenshots or a gameplay trailer for their upcoming action title ‘Persona 4 Arena Ultimax’ which means that it is time for yet another pair of character spotlight trailers with these two focusing on ‘Persona 3’s’ very own Akihiko Sanada and Aigis. ATLUS never let too much time go by without tossing out more hype-inducing news regarding one of their titles and I think that’s why the world loves them. The brutal boxer Akihiko Sanada and the Anti-Shadow android Aigis are back and ready to brawl in these new trailers for the upcoming game and even though the trailers are entirely in Japanese I think audiences will get the gist of what is going on…these two rock ultimate! ‘Persona 4 Arena Ultimax’ is set for a North American release on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 this Autumn/Fall with a European release to follow shortly after that. Akihiko Sanada: Aigis: -30-

Square Enix have today announced that players around the world who are curious about their recent ‘Final Fantasy’ Massive Multiplayer Online title ‘A Realm Reborn’ but don’t know enough about it to invest money into the game have a chance to try it out for free! This 14-day free trial allows players to jump into the much-loved new MMORPG without any monetary commitment. This is a fantastic little campaign that has worked well for video games of this kind in the past and I can imagine it will work just as well for the fantastic people over at Square Enix. This free trial will offer most features of the game with small limitations like a level twenty cap on your character, but apart from that you basically have a 14-day pass to do whatever it is that you want within the game, including partaking in the vents of the latest add-on content titled ‘Defenders of Eorzea’. Square Enix want new players to be able to fully experience and appreciate the game before jumping right in …

“Tears To Tiara II: Heir Of The Overlord” Coming To Europe This November

NIS America, in association with ATLUS, has today announced that their critically acclaimed tactical RPG/visual novel “Tears To Tiara II: Heir Of The Overlord” will be making it’s way over to Europe on the 13th of November this year for the PlayStation 3! this is fantastic news seeing as how loved this title is over in Japan. The game features a fantasy-style story that has players follow the story of a young man named Hamilcar Barca, a lover and somewhat of a fighter that discovers a hidden evil within himself after seeing a poor innocent girl killed by the Empire he’s come to trust. Going into a rage that can only be quelled by the spilling of wicked blood, Hamilcar sets off on an incredible journey to free his people from the grasp of tyranny. Along the way he’ll come into contact with odd and interesting creatures all of which have their own reasons to follow him on his journey for freedom. Be they human, beast or even God, Hamilcar accepts them for who they …

“Digimon All-Star Rumble” Announced For The West

This is absolutely amazing! For so long now ‘Digimon’ fans have been begging video game publishing companies like Namco Bandai to bring some sort of ‘Digimon’ game over to the West and finally they’ve answered our call with the announcement of a brand-new ‘Digital Monsters’ video game title that will actually be made available in both North America and Europe! Yosha! The newly-announced brawler title is called ‘Digimon All-Star Rumble’ and is somewhat reminiscent of the PlayStation classic ‘Digimon Rumble Arena’ a game I bought, loved and sorely miss to this day. The fighting game will feature a 4-player battle system that’ll have you and three of your best ‘Digi-Pals’ going head-to-head-to-head-to-head in the first ever “Digimon Evolution Tournament”. The game’s story is quite simple but seeing as it IS a fighting title I don’t think it necessarily has to have a story: The ‘Digital World’ is finally at peace. ‘Digimon’ are living in harmony and the forces of evil are nowhere to be seen, though…the ‘Digimon’ still long to take the next step in …

Sheik Brings The Noise In The Latest “Hyrule Warriors” Character Trailer

There’s nothing more beautiful than the soft melodies of a harp. There’s nothing more deadly than a shinobi-type assassin ready for the kill. Mix those two things together and you’ve got yourself one hell of a badass gameplay trailer! Last week Tecmo Koei games introduced us, once again, to the mysteriously fierce assassin known only as ‘Sheik’…that is, for those of you who don’t know her true identity. She came to us originally as a bunch of screenshots that showcased her moveset well but left a great deal to the imagination…that’s all changed now thanks to a new trailer for ‘Hyrule Warriors’ that shows off her cut-throat fighting style. She also plays some music which is nice for the enemies to hear before they’re put to their deaths. Rest in pieces. This Wii U exclusive is soon to be hitting up local video game store shelves in Europe on the 19th of September and after that in North America on the 26th of September. It’s only just around the corner. -30-

Heads Up, European Gamers! “Shin Megami Tensei IV” Is On It’s Way!

Finally! It’s situations like this that make European gamers feel a little left out. North America and Japan get everything and we’re left here in the dark! No, no, no, I’m being silly. If you think about it properly Europe has been getting a couple games here and there before North America so I shouldn’t be complaining about things like this. You see, reader, I jumped the gun a little above because Europe has been waiting for ATLUS’ ‘Shin Megami Tensei IV’ for what seems like ages at this point in time! Well, it’s only been just over a year, but that doesn’t mean we haven’t been longing to get our hands on this beauty of a game! ‘Shin Megami Tensei IV’ follows the story of a young samurai named Flynn. He, alongside his other samurai pals, are tasked with ridding the world of demons and they do this by using their amazing Bushido-style teachings. This game has received quite a positive reception in it’s time being available to the public and it’s made European …

One Piece: Super Grand Battle! X – First Screenshots Released

Last week a brand-new ‘One Piece’ action title for the Nintendo 3DS was announced and with it came a whole bunch of hype and a community of Anime fans feeling nothing but pure excitement. The game, titled ‘One Piece: Super Grand Battle! X’, is a super stylish brawler title that pits players against players in a way much like the favored ‘Super Smash Bros.’ series. The new game will feature over fifty of your favorite ‘One Piece’ characters, each with their own unique movesets and special techniques that you must master so you can truly become King of the Pirates! Ganbarion, the developers of this new game, unveiled the teaser site for the game just a few days ago and today we’ve been given our very first look at the game through a set of four screenshots that were released by the developer. The new title truly does like similar to that of ‘Super Smash Bros.’ but hopefully audiences will look past it’s similarities and enjoy it for what I can imagine it will be; …

Monster Hunter 4 – Capcom Reveals Weapon Design Contest Winner

It was a while back and you may not remember but Capcom started up their very own weapon design contest for their upcoming video game release ‘Monster Hunter 4’. Though the game has already been released in Japan, Capcom decided that they would give their Western hunters a chance to be immortalized in the next big hunting title. The contest was opened up to designers from both North America and Europe with a European winner being announced a while back. This Hunting Horn titled, ‘The Emperor’s Speech, was designed to resemble a pig sitting on a throne which oinked when used. The winner from North America’s weapon design took a different route, trading comedy for ‘badassitude’, for lack of a better word. This glaive-type weapon is titled ‘Clockwork Contraption’ and comes with it’s very own robotic beetle…if having a huge steampunk spear wasn’t cool enough for you. This weapon will feature in the Western release of the game, alongside ‘The Emperor’s Speech’, which will get a release in North America and Europe on the Nintendo …

Be The Hero You Want To Be! Link’s Equipment Confirmed For Monster Hunter 4 Western Release

You know, reader, I actually hunt monsters for a living. Yeah, I actually do…in my mind, but that doesn’t mean it is any less real! OK…it kind of does, but that doesn’t mean I shouldn’t dream of one day being a world-renowned monster hunter! Ok…it kind of does. Luckily for dreamers like myself longing to take down the beats of mythology, there’s a video game called series called ‘Monster Hunter’ by industry royalty Capcom and it’s latest iteration, simply titled ‘Monster Hunter 4’, features an armor and weapon set that’s quite familiar. Nintendo and Capcom have come together once again to bring S-Rank hunters something very special and immeasurable exciting. It was just announced that hunters outside of Japan will be able to get their hands on an equipment set for their character that almost perfectly resembles the ‘Hero of Time’ himself, good ol’ Link. Now hard-core fans of the series will know that this was announced for Japanese versions of the game long ago but now they will feature on Western version of the …

“Hyrule Warriors” Character Recap Trailer Released

Here’s something to think about, reader: I, as a man who writes about things like video games all the time, sometimes find it hard to keep up to date with every single information update regarding new titles, especially in this day and age where developers and publishers are more than happy to bombard us with as many screenshots and gameplay trailers as possible. Though, as a writer, my job is to scour the internet and catch up on everything I possibly can before moving on to something else. Tecmo Koei games have, over the weekend, done people like me a serious solid with the release of a new ‘Hyrule Warriors’ trailer that actually compresses each and every one of the character introduction/spotlight videos into one awesome piece of ‘Legend of Zelda’ footage that will both bring you up to date on all the characters that will feature in the game as well as making you immeasurable excited for the pure awesomeness to come! Link, Zelda, Impa, Midna, Lana, Agitha, Fi, Ruto, Darunia and Sheik, the …

Multiplayer “Tag Climax Mode” Announced For Bayonetta 2

Playing games alone can be pretty…lonely. It is even worse when the video game you’re playing happens to be one of the best to ever grace the industry! It’s like torture not being able to actively share the experience with a friend. Torture, I say! It delights me to bring you the news that Platinum has today revealed that there will be a co-op/multiplayer mode in their upcoming video game sequel ‘Bayonetta 2’ where you and a friend can team up to fight hordes of enemies or some seriously powerful boss-types. This feature titled ‘Tag Climax’ Mode’ will allow you to choose from a whole bunch of environments and battles from the game’s story to play on with a friend but you must first reach the points of those particular environments and battles on your own before they become available to play as a duo. This is the same for characters, weapons and equipable accessories. Basically the more into the story you are, the more you can do in multiplayer mode. Each stage, which are …

“Mega Man Battle Network” Wii U Release Date Revealed

Megaman.EXE is absolutely a program I’d love to have on my personal computer but, unfortunately, something that amazing has yet to have been developed though I’m hoping that some sort of P.E.T-style device will be put out on the market sometime in the near future. Now if you have no idea what I’m talking about, that’s ok, it just means you’re not a fan of the surprisingly highly-popular ‘Mega Man’ spinoff video game series ‘Battle Network’. This series takes ‘Mega Man’ and makes it entirely digital in ways somewhat reminiscent of the ‘Digimon’ franchise. Unlike the original line of ‘Mega Man’ titles, this series of GameBoy Advanced/Nintendo DS games this follows a version of Mega Man who isn’t quite a robot boy but he IS a pivotal part of a wave of futuristic technology that is sweeping the world. So in some ways he’s the same old Mega Man, just with a new twist. Follow the story of Lan, a young boy who must fight the forces of WWW (World Three) in order to save …

New Batch of “Hyrule Warriors” Screenshots Introduce Us To “Ocarina Of Time” Greats

For a game like ‘Hyrule Warriors’ to stand out as another fantastic high-octane action title, it needs to have a cast of highly-likable, bad-ass characters…well, if anything, it has that and so much more! Three new characters for the upcoming game were revealed but a week ago through Japan’s ‘Famitsu’ magazine, you may know them, they each play somewhat pivotal roles in the ‘LoZ’ Nintendo 64 classic ‘Ocarina of Time’: Sheik the mysterious assassin, Darunia the Goron warrior and Princess Ruto the Zora beauty were all announced as playable characters but with their announcement came no real show of just what it is they will be able to do in-game, well…that’s all changed now thanks to Tecmo Koei’s latest batch of ‘Hyrule Warriors’ screenshots. These new images focus on each of the newly-announced characters and shows them in true HD, taking down enemies left, right and center. The way it should be! This Wii U exclusive is set to hit Japan this August, which will be followed up by a European release on the …

Akiba’s Trip: Undead and Undressed Reveals Two New English Trailers

By now I’m sure you’ve all heard about the vampire hunting game that shows a little something extra. If not, I’m talking about Akiba’s Trip: Undead and Undressed, wherein players must rid blood sucking foes of their pesky clothing so that the sun may perform its vampire eradicating duty. See, the logic checks out…at least, that’s what I’ll keep telling myself. Akiba’s Trip: Undead & Undressed tells the story of a young man named Nanashi who was lured into a trap and transformed into one of the walking undead. Lucky enough to be spared the worst of his fate by the kiss of a mysterious Synthister hunter named Shizuku, Nanashi is sworn to rid Akihabara of the Synthister threat. Together with the rest of his companions in an organization unofficially dubbed the “Akiba Freedom Fighters,” Nanashi and Shizuku must uncover the truth behind the Synthister plague and save Akiba from being overrun by their kind. So if this is the kind of game that piques your interest, check out the two brand new English trailers …

Set Sail With “One Piece: Super Grand Battle X” Just Announced For The Nintendo 3DS

Here I was, settling in, enjoying my copy of ‘One Piece: Unlimited World Red’, thinking to myself; “wow…life can’t get much better than this”. I jump onto the computer to see if any work is to be done and I come across a piece of news straight from Japan’s ‘Jump’ magazine announcing a brand-new ‘One Piece’ video game titled ‘Super Grand Battle X’ for the Nintendo 3DS. I haven’t even been able to finish ‘Unlimited World Red’ and already I’ve been given something to even more excited about! I’m so full of joy that I’m actually on the verge of being angry. ‘One Piece’, why do you haunt me so! The announcement of the upcoming game comes in the form of a magazine scan from, as mentioned above, ‘Jump’ magazine. The scan shows the ‘Straw Hat’ crew in all their chibi glory and also happens to feature some screenshots from the game itself and they look to be sticking with the ‘Super Deformed’ style. Players will be able to choose from 85 of their favorite …

Level up!” – ATLUS has today released three short trailers for their upcoming action/brawler title ‘Persona 4 Arena Ultimax’, each of which showcases another of the already-announced characters, this time in full English audio! North America To Get A PS4 Release Of “Akiba’s Trip: Undead And Undressed”

Ohohoho! What do we have here? A saucy little update on the upcoming action/adventure sequel “Akiba’s Strip: Undead and Undressed” that has the game supposedly hitting the PlayStation 4 in North America like it has already done in Japan. This…is…fantastic! Originally the game was just announced to be getting a release on both the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita which isn’t at all a bad thing, we were just glad to be getting it, but now it has been revealed that North America too will be able to play this ultra sexy, ultra stylish game in it’s full HD glory on the PlayStation 4. If you’ve no idea what this game is, allow me to explain: You play as a young man named Nanashi who has recently been…killed. Well not killed, it’s more like he’s become a zombie but not the type of zombie you see in cheesy 80s films, he’s kind of just no longer alive, yet still kind of alive. It’s a little confusing but bare with me as we hack and slash …

The game will still be hitting Europe digitally for those of you who prefer to keep each and every one of your games on the console but will now also be literally hitting local shelves. Fred Dutton, SCEE Blog Manager, announced this particular piece of news by referring to the large amount of people voicing their opinions on the previously digital-only release for the game. Mr. Dutton stated that there are many gamers outside of Japan that would love to see this game physically and, well…Sony Computer Entertainment see’s what the people want and gives it too them. Clearly. Sony has yet to announce a Western release date for …

Celebrate The Music Of “Final Fantasy VII” With The New Trailer For “Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call”

I’ll be honest with you, reader; ‘Final Fantasy VII’ is really the only video game from the series that I actually know about in, somewhat, great detail. It isn’t that the series never piqued my interest, it is simply that I’m a product of my environment and, while growing up, it was never really saturated with the ‘Final Fantasy’ series. Now, as an adult, I feel as though I’m too separated from the series to get into it now…but I still love me some ‘Final Fantasy VII’ which somehow impacted my video game-playing life like no other storyline from the franchise. Square Enix has today released the third episode of ‘The Legacy of Music’ a trailer-style video series that basically focuses on one of the ‘FF’ games featured in the upcoming ‘Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call’ Nintendo 3DS title and this time around it just so happens to showcase some of the music from the high-acclaimed ‘Final Fantasy VII’. The video, of which you can see just below, takes the audience on a short ride …

Even though the franchise has died off over here in the West, it is still going strong in Japan with a massive fanbase that just keeps demanding more games. Two new gameplay videos were just released and both focus entirely on the battle system of the new pair of games that are quite reminiscent of previous ‘Medabots’ titles but with little tweaks and changes to make the combat mechanics smoother and more enjoyable. Follow Beck again as he blasts, smashes and dashes his way through countless enemies. It’s only a short video but if you’re a die-hard fan of Mr. Inafune’s work, like me, you’ll be happy to see more of the new ‘blue bomber’. As an added bonus, the Kickstarter page was also updated with a bunch of great art from fans around the world. Click Here to head …

Nippon Ichi Software’s Greeting Card Possibly Features First Image Of “Disgaea 5”

Twitter is wonderful! You must understand this! It isn’t just ‘another social media site’ at all. It is something that constantly surprises and delights. With the click of a link you could be sent on an adventure like no other. Personal information is at your fingertips and, so long as there are still good-hearted world citizens using it, I will continue to recommend Twitter to everyone I meet! The fantastic Twitter user GILGAMESH501XX yesterday ‘Tweeted’ out a picture of a NIS (Nippon Ichi Software) greeting card, sent out to some lucky people as a nice, warm, Summer salutation. Gilgamesh, as I will call him, noticed something interesting about the image featured on this greeting card; the characters shown aren’t that familiar but the way they look, now…that’s a different story. https://twitter.com/GILGAMESH501XX/status/490437511638839296 At first glance they simply seem like typical ‘Disgaea’ characters with the most prominent of the group looking quite similar to each of the previous game’s protagonists. Like some sort of incredibly protagonist fusion, but I’m not exactly sure that’s what it is. The …

“Danganronpa: Another Episode” Official Website Update Information

How would you deal with a robot bear uprising? Hide in a corner until you’re inevitably found and killed or stand tall and fight back against the fuzzy force that oppresses you?! I would probably go with the ‘hide in corner’ option but in the recently announced ‘Danganronpa’ third-person shooter title ‘Another Episode’, you don’t really have a choice. Set in between the games ‘Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc’ and ‘Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair’, this game tells the story of Komaru Naegi as she fights to survive in the now-apocalyptic Towa City. The forces of Monokuma, the series antagonist, have risen up and taken hold of the once peaceful city, killing all those who stand their ground. Spike Chunsoft, Japanese video game developer, have today updated the official website for the game revealing more information regarding the new characters which were showcased in the latest issue of Japan’s ‘Famitsu’ magazine and explaining more about the odd but affective weapon of the game’s hero. Komaru, as you may already know, wields a weapon made specifically to take …

There’s A New Saiyan In Town! “Dragon Ball: Xenoverse” Screenshots Showcase Future Saiyan Warrior

There’s a heavy burden that comes with the option of time travel but if you had the ability to speed back through time, helping out the ‘good guys’ in each and every situation of conflict, would you not do so? There’s a new character that has been ‘shown’ to be quite pivotal in the upcoming ‘Dragon Ball: Xenoverse’ fighting game published by the wonderful Bandai Namco Games, and he just so happens to be a time traveler. He has been described as a ‘mysterious figure’ who journey through the timeline of the ‘Dragon Ball’ universe, aiding in the battle against benevolent forces hell-bent on destroying all that is good. In other words; every single antagonist from the ‘Dragon Ball’ series. Playing as this ‘mysterious future warrior’, you will take part in every single fate-deciding battle from the highly-acclaimed Shonen series. You will fight alongside each of the ‘Z Fighters’, helping them along the way and most likely changing certain outcomes including their inevitable deaths along the way. As much as we know about this ‘mysterious …

Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair for PS Vita gets Release Date and Trailer

NIS America have today confirmed the release date for the upcoming PS Vita title Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair. The game is said to be slated for a release on September 12th, 2014. Alongside the announcement of the release date, NIS America also dropped a brand new trailer for Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair to build up some hype for the upcoming game. The game follows on from the success of Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc the first game in the series. Check out the trailer below and say Goodbye to Despair. With this title the future certainly is beginning to look brighter for the struggling PS Vita which has unfortunately struggled to find its footing in the handheld market since its launch back in 2012. It is great to see that companies such as NIS America are supporting the platform with great titles such as this. -30-

Next Nippon Ichi Software Video Game Title Teased By Countdown Site

There are certain things companies can do in this industry to raise hype: Some choose to release trailers of their new games, others decide to simply advertise that there will be a new game but there are a special few that, well…they just like to tease fans. Nippon Ichi Software, also known more commonly as NIS, have today launched a website that is essentially counting down to an the announcement of their ‘next big thing’. The website, which you can check out by Clicking Here, is pretty bare bones when it comes to actual information. Really, it’s just well-composed photograph of a a beautiful woman of oriental background in traditional garb holding a PlayStation Vita. Next to her is what looks to be a chest of gold, as you can clearly see in the picture above. This website will be updated every day at exactly 12:00am (Japanese time). Whether or not the ‘update’ will just bring about another picture similar to the last or some actual information on the title is beyond me at this …

“Hyrule Warriors” – Second Princess Zelda Trailer Released

The lovely princess is back in all her kick-arse glory! Tecmo Koei has today released another Zelda-centric character trailer for their upcoming Wii U exclusive ‘Hyrule Warriors’ and I must say she is looking damn fierce! The difference between this trailer and the last? Well did the glamorous princess wield the ‘Wind Waker’ in the last trailer? No, I didn’t think so, but she does in this one! Take control of the wind as you slice your way through hordes of enemies with Princess Zelda, the lovely heroine that is ultimately as cool and powerful as the hero Link. That doesn’t surprise me though, the game IS named after her so really she should be the best out of all the characters. The new trailer shows off all her moves as she dishes out some smack down to all the canon fodder standing in her way. It goes for about a minute and a half and is sure to scratch your ‘Hyrule Warriors’ itch. The game is set for a release in Japan on the …

‘Fatal Frame: The Black-Haired Shrine Maiden’ gets Trailer and gets Scary!

A new trailer for the upcoming Fatal Frame video-game has made it’s way online and boy oh boy is it spooky! The game is titled Fatal Frame: The Black-Haired Shrine Maiden and is coming exclusive to the Wii U, implementing the Wii U GamePad into the game’s iconic photography gameplay. The game looks scary as all hell and will no doubt be a must-play game for Wii U owners. You can check out the trailer for Fatal Frame: The Black-Haired Shrine Maiden below. Are you afraid of the dark? Because my friend, with Fatal Frame you are heading into the heart of it. -30-

One Piece: Unlimited World Red – “Quest For Money” Paid DLC Announced

Ah yes, the pirate’s life surely is the life for me. You’re off the land, journeying the sea, man, life is pretty free. The pirate’s life…wow, what a life to lead. Bandai Namco Games today announced the first paid DLC for their newly-released ‘One Piece’ multi-platform title ‘Unlimited World Red’ and the ironic thing is that you’ll be paying real money for a mission called ‘Quest For Money’. The mission will have you and your merry band of pirates running about searching for a treasure you could never imagine, not even in your wildest dreams! Is it the treasure of ‘One Piece’? Is this Gol D. Roger’s treasure?! No, but it is a pretty awesome booty to chase…’booty’, is that the right word? From what Namco Bandai have said, you and your friends will be searching for “a massive treasure…of at least a handful of berries”. So…maybe not a ‘massive’ treasure but one that you’ll at least have fun trying to find…right? No, all jokes aside, this DLC sounds like a whole bunch of fun …

Person 4 Arena Ultimax – Teddie and Elizabeth Spotlight Trailers Released

Two new trailers for ‘Persona 4 Arena Ultimax’?! Oh man! I’m about to go BEAR-zerk! ATLUS has today released two new character spotlight trailers for their upcoming fighting game sequel and they just so happen to focus on ‘Persona 3’s’ Elizabeth and ‘Persona 4’s’ Teddie who is also known as Kuma in Japan. Yesterday brought some screenshots of the newly announced character ‘Marie’ in all her fighting game glory but today we’re to focus on these two fan favorite characters, both of which are making a return to the arena. The two videos are short but they show us everything we need: Elizabeth is, once again, accompanied by the Persona Thanatos who you may know actually belongs to the protagonist character of ‘Persona 3’. Fans all over the web have spoken out in protest at the fact that Makoto Yuki isn’t featured as a playable character in the new game but I suppose we all should take solace in the fact that at least Elizabeth is still partnered up with Thanatos. That’s as close as …

Freedom Wars – Update Details Released

Do you remember a couple of weeks ago when certain news regarding Japanese gamers finding ‘Freedom Wars’ too hard was floating around the web? Do you remember when video game producer Junichi Yoshizawa came out and said that the development team were currently working on an update to fix the difficulty problem? You do?! Well it doesn’t actually matter because this update has absolutely nothing to do with the aforementioned bug. Japan’s ‘Famitsu’ magazine recently posted an information page up on their online publication which both announces and details a massive update for the game. Now, as mentioned, this update does nothing about the insane difficulty level but it does add a couple extra features that will surely boost overall gameplay value for the Sony Computer Entertainment title. The new update will add the ‘Internet Co-Op Play’ feature which will allow players to do exactly that; play matches over the internet with anyone around the world rather than just through ad-hoc. Don’t stress if you’re more of a ‘close proximity’ gamer because the ad-hoc multiplayer …

Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth – ‘Mysterious Boy’, ‘Eater’ and New Character Yuuko Introduced

The digital world of the ‘Digimon’ franchise seems as though it’s a pretty straightforward plane of existence: It’s data precisely engineered to produce the monsters and environments that populate the world. What we tend to forget is that, much like real programs, the digital world can sometimes come across certain problems and I’m not just talking about the ‘Virus-type’ Digimon that exist in the digital world, I’m speaking of course about glitches. Famitsu’s online publication has released a couple of screenshots and some general descriptions for two new ‘apparitions’ that will be appearing within the upcoming game’s digital world. The ‘Mysterious Boy’ and the ‘Eater’, both of which are the sources for their own urban legends, are two glitches in the overall digital system said to be the cause of death and/or disappearance for many digital monsters and humans wandering too far down into the depth of the digital world. The ‘Mysterious Boy’, as he’s so blatantly titled, is a ghostly figure that appears before wanderers and essentially signifies their disconnection from the real world …

Marie Announced As DLC Character For “Persona 4 Arena Ultimax” [UPDATE]

I never expected a roster addition like this…I’m not sure anyone did! It was announced today through Japan’s ‘Famitsu’ magazine that the new addition to the ‘Persona’ series who was introduced to fans through the ‘Persona 4 Golden’ PlayStation Vita title will be made available as a DLC character soon after the release of the upcoming ‘Persona 4 Arena Ultimax’ fighting game. I’m sure you all already know who it is I’m referring to seeing as it is in the title but I’ll say it once more just to drive home the point: Marie of ‘Persona 4’ has been announced as the next playable character to join the already extensive roster and fans of the series the world over could not be more excited! I know I am! The punky young girl with the mostly-blue outfit will join her new friends in the arena for what is looking to be one hell of a massive ‘Persona’ brawl. Much like ‘Felix The Cat’, Marie is armed with a bottomless bag from which she can pull all …

Listen well Final Fantasy Fanatics because your next instalment of Theatrhythm is just around the corner. Owing to this, Square Enix has released a new trailer to showcase some of the new tunes that lie behind the curtain. Focusing on an earlier era of finality, said trailer focuses on FFIV-FFVI, with a little snippet of Mystic Quest thrown in at the end. Enjoy! The 16 bit debut of FINAL FANTASY was heralded by FINAL FANTASY IV, which showed to the world that that an RPG could tell a compelling and powerful story. This game and those that followed introduced a host of multi-faceted characters that faced real-world choices and consequences along their journeys. The Active Time Battle system also made its first appearance in this generation, giving a more real-time feel to the combat. Musically, some of the franchise’s most memorable themes made their debut, including Battle on the Big Bridge, which has had many triumphant series returns in a variety of styles. -30-

“Akiba’s Trip: Undead & Undressed” Is Coming To Europe!

‘Akiba’s Trip: Undead and Undressed’ is an odd yet immeasurably popular game that has gained quite a great deal of positive reception in the West as of late and guess what? It’s going to be making it’s way over to Europe very soon thanks to ‘NIS America’! You play as a young man named Nanashi who has recently been…killed. Well not killed, it’s more like he’s become a zombie but not the type of zombie you see in cheesy 80s films, he’s kind of just no longer alive, yet still kind of alive. It’s a little confusing but bare with me as we hack and slash our way through it. Before fully succumbing to the darkness, Nanashi is saved by a young maiden who just so happens to work for an organization called the ‘Akiba Freedom Fighters’ who have dedicated their lives to stopping the vampire invasion one blood-sucker at a time. As Nanashi, you join the ‘Freedom Fighters’ and help in their mission to rid Akihabara of it’s vampire problem. These vampires, or ‘Synthesizers’, …

Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire Trailer Shows Gym Leaders, Pika-Cosplay and New Mega

Is everyone still excited for Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire? I know I am. Should you be amongst those who have let news of the Hoenn remakes drift into the periphery of your thoughts, Nintendo has released yet another trailer showcasing snippets of the upcoming remakes. I’ll start with the big news: Pikachu Cosplay. I mean, if there’s one thing that has been sorely lacking from Pokemon, it’s costumes right? Though screenshots express said costumed mouse in the Pokemon Amie function, there has been no specifics given as to the limitations of these outfits. Due to Hoenn being the region that first brought us Pokemon Contests, along with a seemingly related sentence in the trailer, it wouldn’t be that far of a stretch to imagine cosplay will be ramped up a notch in these games. We also do not know if it is only specific Pokemon who will have the ability to dress up, or if there are any other costumes. After all, each screenshot released thus far specifically features a female Pikachu, one would …

“Fire Emblem: Awakening” Stars Join The New “Super Smash Bros.” Roster Alongside Veteran Fighter Captain Falcon

We’ve been waiting for some new characters to be announced for the upcoming party brawler ‘Super Smash Bros.’ for the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, well here they are! Nintendo, through a live streaming event, released a brand-new character introduction trailer for the upcoming fighting game but, to the delight of audiences around the world, it wasn’t a trailer only introducing a single character like the teaser for this stream detailed…no, we got something much more than that! Lucina, Robin AND Captain Falcon have now been confirmed as playable characters for the new game! Robin, in case you are a little confused as to who this actually is, is the main character from the ‘Fire Emblem: Awakening” game. This character is one that you customize to your liking, making it look however you want it to and naming it after yourself, if you so wish. He/She alongside the game’s mysterious protagonist Lucina will come together for ‘Smash Bros.’ to fight the forces of evil on whatever stage it is they choose…also, Captain Falcon who puts …

“Super Hero Generation” Gets A Bunch More Screenshots and A Confirmed Character List

Bandai Namco, you’re magnificent! A few weeks ago Bandai Namco announced a brand-new crossover title called ‘Super Hero Generation’ that came alongside a couple of screenshots just to whet our appetite (Click Here). This game brings together the universes of ‘Kamen Rider’, ‘Gundam’ and ‘Ultraman’ into one action-packed tactical RPG the likes of which we haven’t seen since ‘Project X Zone’ which, in my personal opinion, was an extremely under-appreciated game but I’m not here to talk about ‘Project X Zone’, I’m here to deliver you a whole bunch of new screenshots for the upcoming superhero-centric title and that’s exactly what I’ll do! Below you’ll be able to see a gallery of all the newly-released screenshots courtesy of Bandai Namco Games but before you head down there I urge you to keep reading as the game’s publisher has also revealed a list of confirmed characters so far and they are as follows: Gundam: Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn Mobile Suit Gundam AGE: Memory of Eden Mobile Suit Gundam 00 Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Mobile Suit Gundam …

Tekken 7 Announcement Trailer Unveiled

Well who saw this one coming? Probably a great deal of fighting fans in the world who were moreso hoping for a new ‘Tekken’ game rather than simply anticipating. It was announced at this year’s Evolution Championship Series (a.k.a ‘EVO’) that ‘Tekken 7’ is now in development and has been for a little while at this point in time. Alongside the announcement came the teaser trailer for the upcoming fighter which, unfortunately, showed absolutely nothing of the actual game but set up a pretty serious storyline. Now the teaser does happen to feature the words ‘the final battle’ quite close to the end but I’m not so sure this will be the last ‘Tekken’ game. It’s a series that has lasted this long, I highly doubt it is going anywhere anytime soon. The game is supposedly being created through the Unreal Engine 4 which game producer Katsuhiro Harada had a little bit to say about: The power and flexibility means that we can focus our efforts on making Tekken 7 the best possible game without …

Mighty No.9 – “Beck Springs Into Action” Videos Released

Keiji Inafune and his team over at Inti Creates never leave their fans wanting for too long. It was only last week that we were given some awesome news regarding the MIghty No.9 animated series and the beginning of another Kickstarter campaign, as part of that campaign we have today been given a closer look at just what it is that Beck can do with a series of videos all falling under the title; “Beck Springs Into Action”. Inafune and Co have released four clips, each of which running for exactly thirty seven seconds, just enough time to Beck to strut his stuff and show us just how formidable a hero he truly is. See Beck run, jump, dash and smash enemies in some of the flashiest ways. The blue bomber would be proud of his spiritual successor…it almost makes me…want to cry. Below we’ve provided all four of the videos so head down there to check them out. ‘Might No.9’ isn’t set for a release until sometime next year so there’s still a long …

Making Up For Lost Time – Frank Plays The “Pokemon Trading Card Game” (3DS)

Reader, I don’t know about you but my friends and I used to be Pokemon card masters. We never actually played the proper game but we did buy at least one booster pack a week. A game we used to call ‘flips’ spread across the playground like a plague. It was a simple game where two combatants would go head-to-head, with each of the players would play with one of their own cards. The aim of the game was to flip both cards and have them land the same way up. This would result in you taking both the cards. It was our form of gambling back then. We used to bet our best cards and the winner would always walk away with a pocket full of another child’s precious Pokemon. I remember the bigger kids in my life actually playing the TCG (Trading Card Game) and, from the view of a small child, they were Gods among men. Never once did I try to learn how to play this game, I just stuck …

Pokemon Trading Card Game Now Available On The European Nintendo eShop

Time to dust off my Nintendo 3DS and get back into the swing of handheld gaming because Nintendo has today re-released the old-school ‘Pokemon Trading Card Game’ as Virtual Console classic. This new/old title has just been made available through the European eShop. It was first released in the West back in 2000, a time where I was too young to understand real strategy and instead chose to buy booster packs of Pokemon cards simply because they looked cool. I never had the intention of playing the actual TCG (Trading Card Game) which meant that this particular game went right over my head. What I simply child I was. With the re-release going for a measly $6.50, it was hard for me to pass up the chance to make up for lost time. The game does actually have any contemporary editions, it is essentially just a port and I think that’s perfectly fine. It has an 8mb download size and will take you no more than ten seconds to download so there’s no real reason …

Persona 4 Arena Ultimax To Be Region Free Upon American Release + New Trailer

I’m all fired up for this news because, believe it or not, I was burned once before by the original ‘Persona 4 Arena’ region-locked system and I’m so excited to see that the American version of the ‘Persona 4 Arena Ultimax’ game will be entirely region-free. Do you know what this means? It means as long as you have an American PlayStation Network account you can download and play the game as soon as it is released no matter where you live in the world. This is brilliant news for European gamers like myself who were unable to get the first game at the same time as our American counterparts . We live in a world where the ‘global village’ is a reality, not just something we learned in school as a part of the English class curriculum. No longer do friends have to be located in the same street to be able to play together, the world’s citizens are all connected and now we can all get up to some hardcore brawlin’ thanks …

“Super Hero Generation” – First Screenshots Released

I’m somewhat ashamed to admit this but I actually have no experience with the ‘Kamen Rider’, ‘Ultraman’ and ‘Gundam’ series’ but the prospect of a crossover video game between the three got me excited enough to want to write about it! While I’ve never actually experienced any material in regards to the three series’, I have heard a great deal about them and, like a true pop culture freak, I’ve done my research. Bandai Namco announced this game not too long ago, it is called ‘Super Hero Generation’ and it looks to be a tactical RPG-type game that features some incredible looking cinematic action sequences. Famitsu, the Japanese video game magazine, has today posted online five screenshots for the newly-announced game. This images are the first we’re seeing of the crossover title and, while focusing on what looks to be action sequences, it does give us somewhat of an idea of just exactly how this game is played. Unicorn Gundam, Ultraman Ginga and Kamen Rider Wizard take center stage for their very own screenshots but …

Mega Metagross Reveiled For Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire

Let me be honest; we all knew this was coming, what we didn’t know was when it’d be coming. New scans, courtesy of the Japanese ‘CoroCoro’ magazine, have today revealed the next Pokemon to obtain itself a ‘Mega Evolution’ and that Pokemon is none other than the mighty Metagross! A whopping tank-like creature, Metagross is an intelligent Pokemon that knows how to use it’s brute strength to pin down it’s prey and devour them with it’s jaws of steel of which are located almost underneath it’s body. With a nice type combination of ‘Steel’ and ‘Psychic’, Metagross is a force to be reckoned with and now it has unlocked the power to evolve once more making it a force of nature no other Pokemon can stand against. Though laced with glare, these scans allow us to clearly see just what a behemoth this already-devastating Pokemon has become. Though no real info about the evolution itself was divulged, we do know that it belongs to Steven Stone and that his particular ‘Mega Stone’ is located on …

Digital Devil Saga Review

Age is a demon we must all face, the same can be said about Digital Devil Saga, the PlayStation 2 Shin Megami Tensei RPG. Now a decade since it’s initial Japanese release date, Digital Devil Saga thoroughly shows its age, but it still has a wicked sense of style that stands in defiance of the hands of time. Here we are with the digital PSN re-release of Digital Devil Saga and the game invites a new generation into The Junkyard for a devilish journey they are likely not to forget. Digital Devil Saga takes place within The Junkyard, a desolate wasteland that serves as the battleground for the war between a multitude of tribes all vying for ascension to ‘Nirvana’. During a troubled battle between tribes, Serph and his companions become ‘infected’ by a strange force. Shortly after they each gain the ability to transform into devils, from there the battle for ‘Nirvana’ takes a hellish turn. Seeing how these characters deal with the situation they have found themselves in makes for some very compelling …

Secret Bases Make A Return In Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire

You know, reader, sometimes when I get into a fight with someone I love I just want to run away but that’s hard when living in the Pokemon world because at any moment you can be attacked by some sort of fire chicken or mariachi monster. That’s why every single Pokemon trainer must have their own secret base, a place where they can go when they can’t stay at home, a place where you can escape all your worries, a place where you can be in your own company and a place where you can store your plush toy collection without anyone giving you crap about it…I just like the way they feel, OK?! After months of speculation, it was finally revealed that the ‘Secret Base’ feature from the original generation three games will make a huge return in the ‘Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire’ video game remakes. Alongside the reveal of this returning features comes a bunch of great-looking screenshots that both show off the feature in all it’s new graphics glory …

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn – Defenders Of Eorzea Patch Now Available

You know what rocks about Massive Multiplayer Online games? There’s just so damn much to do and even when you feel like you’re getting close to doing it all, the development team go ahead and release extra content for it. It is the game that keeps you gaming and it is clear as to why the genre has some of the most dedicated players in all of the video game world. ‘Square Enix’ has gone ahead and done just that with the release of the next ‘Final Fantasy: A Realm Reborn’ patch titled ‘Defenders of Eorzea’. This is patch 2.3 and, for the most part, is just a general upgrade to the game but will feature some special additions that will have hard-core players jumping for joy. When the world is thrown into chaos, who will rise to defend those too weak to defend themselves? The Sahagin summoned Leviathan, Lord of the Whorl, that the unbridled fury of the sea would wash away those who would threaten their livelihood. Eorzea’s people turned to the Warriors …

Japanese Gamers To Receive A Hefty New “Bravely Default” Demo

If you’ve been reading articles on this site ever since it first went live, you’d know that I consider the Japanese gaming population to be quite a lucky one. They get everything! Us living in countries outside of Japan are lucky to get even half of the video game releases they do and even then we usually miss out on certain things like DLC. ‘Square Enix’ today revealed that they will be releasing a new demo for their highly popular contemporary RPG title ‘Bravely Default’. It is odd for a video game demo to be released long after that of the full game’s but, well…here we are! There’s something different about this demo though. ‘Square Enix’ have done something quite gutsy while at the same time extremely intelligent; they’ve rereleased the ‘Bravely Default’ demo but this time players will be able to access the first four chapters of the game which actually tells about half of the story. Keep in mind that this is a 50+ hour RPG title. This means Japanese gamers will be …

Dragon Quest X Set To Hit The 3DS This September

Do you love ‘Dragon Quest’? How about Massive Multiplayer Online games? Do you love them? If your answer was ‘yes’ than you’re in the right place because ‘Square Enix’ today announced that their supremely popular MMORPG “Dragon Quest X’ will soon be making it’s home on the Nintendo 3DS. The game, which fuses the RPG elements of the ‘Dragon Quest’ series with the communal gaming style of a modern MMO, was released some time ago on the Wii and Wii U as well as on Android and Windows mobile devices but only now has it been announced to be making its way to the 3DS. This seems quite strange but overwhelmingly exciting; an MMO on a handheld console! Has this ever been done before? This is the first I’m hearing of it! What is odd about this particular release is that the game requires you to connect to the internet every couple of hours as offline play doesn’t offer nearly as much as it’s online counterpart. This will make it hard for traveling gamers, most …

Gun Gale Online DLC Announced For Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment

Are you watching the latest Anime season? Trick question, reader! Of course you are! Let me guess; I bet you’re following ‘Sword Art Online II’ right? Why else would you be here?! Fans of ‘SAO’ listen up because this is news specifically for you. While us here in the West are waiting in high anticipation of the upcoming PlayStation Vita title ‘Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment’, Japanese gamers are living it up with their copies of the game. Not only that, a new DLC pack for the game was just announced and, if you ask me, it is pretty damn cool. The standout feature of the new DLC pack is arguably the two Gun Gale Online-themed costumes for both Kirito and Sinon. This has come at a perfect time seeing as the new series has just begun but that’s not all the DLC has to offer! Oh no, not even close! Alongside the aforementioned costumes come a level capacity upgrade (with players being able to now reach level 250), brand-new weapons to obtain, more difficult …

One Piece: Unlimited World Red Review

Set sail once again for One Piece, with Bandai Namco’s latest video-game adaptation of the wildly popular One Piece franchise, One Piece: Unlimited World Red. The latest installment looks to expand upon many elements present in past One Piece titles all the while taking it in some different directions. For this review we received a copy of the game on PlayStation 3 and as such our views are based upon that particular version of the game. The first thing that struck me with One Piece: Unlimited World Red was how much inspiration it takes from the Monster Hunter series. It was hard not to be reminded of the epic clashes and quests of Monster Hunter when tackling the Punk Hazard Dragon in an arduous battle. The game incorporates a lot of RPG elements that are highly reminiscent of games like Monster Hunter and the quest elements of the game definitely do mirror those seen in that series. One Piece: Unlimited World Red does have a story mode, but like most One Piece games, the story is …

Agarest: Generations Of War Review

Gods rise and Gods fall, much like that of the Earth’s sun. When the forces of good plummet, the forces of malevolence begin to take reign. It is as clear as the different between night and day. A war of divinity took place at the birth of the universe with the virtuous only wishing to create a world in which positivity may prosper but their counterparts stood for death, destruction and an existence as bleak as the dystopian wastelands they envisioned. It was a battle beyond human understanding. It was a battle that raged for what seemed like an infinity. It was a battle that good lost…and then the world we come to know was born. This is the setting of ‘Agarest: Generations Of War’, a game that I have been given the pleasure of reviewing thanks to British publishers Ghostlight who are known for the much beloved ‘Shin Megami Tensei’ many of which were distributed in Europe thanks to this fantastic company. ‘Agarest: Generations Of War’ is a tactical role-playing game based in a …

‘Demon Gaze 2’ Said To Already Be in Development

Old-school dungeon crawling at it’s finest, ‘Demon Gaze’ was released in Europe only a few months ago, with it’s release in Japan obviously being earlier than that, and already it has been announced that a sequel to the game is already in development. Publisher Kadokawa and developer Experience, have come out over the weekend and said that plans for the game’s sequel have already been set into motion with an estimated release date simply being sometime in late 2015. The sequel is set to be released on the PlayStation Vita like it’s predecessor with Hajime Chikami (president of Experience) saying that there may be a release on other consoles though their focus as of right now is strictly on the PlayStation Vita, which is fantastic because the Vita doesn’t get as much attention as I believe it deserves. NIS America brought the RPG dungeon crawler to North America in Europe and hopes are that they do the same with it’s sequel. If you’ve yet to play the game but have somewhat of an interest in …

‘Mighty No.9’ Animated Series Announced + Inafune Sets Up New Kickstarter Campaign

The lords of pop culture are truly smiling down upon us. It’s a Monday over here in Australia so it is Sunday over in North America, that means Anime Expo is still in full swing and, like all pop culture conventions, it’s going to go out with a bang! The legendary Keiji Inafune held his very own panel at the expo over the weekend and there he announced some very exciting news regarding his latest video game project but, unlike the announcements that came before this, it has nothing to do with the ‘Mighty No.9’ game. Mr. Inafune and his associates revealed that they have plans to make their very own ‘Mighty No.9’ animated series. Isn’t this amazing!? I’ll put money on it that no one from the Inafune fandom ever thought this is what the man would be announcing at Anime Expo 2014 but I’m sure a few had their suspicions. This shocked me but I’m so glad I was able to wake up to such a brilliant announcement! Digital Frontier, who are a …

“Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax” Announced For The PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita

Yes! Another tasty crossover title has just been announced for home consoles and, man, am I hoping it gets a release in the West. Nonetheless, news of it’s release is still exciting enough to write about so I hope it’ll make you excited just by reading about it. It was announced today that the formerly arcade-only brawler title ‘Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax’ will be getting a home console release sometime in the fourth quarter of 2014. It has been set for a release on the PlayStation 3 and the PlayStation Vita with fans hoping this means it will have some level of cross-connectivity. The game is a collaboration title between Sega and Dengeki Bunko which, if you don’t know, is a Japanese light novel publisher famous for works like ‘Accel World’, ‘Black Bullet’ and ‘Durarara!!’. Remniscent of games like ‘Sunday vs Magazine’, which had lesser known Shonen characters throw down for ultimate supremacy, and ‘Jump Super Stars’, which had the more popular Shonen Jump series characters going head-to-head, ‘Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax’ will feature a …

Rooster Teeth is Making A RWBY Game

RWBYtes rejoice! Your favourite chromatic squad of heroes is leaping, spinning and shooting its way into a new format: a video game. You heard me right, the company that’s all about games is now making their own. How awesome is that? Very…it’s very awesome. The game itself began life as a fan made title, created by 19 year old Jordan Scott. Monty Oum and the rest of the RWBY team were so impressed with Scott’s efforts that they hired him and brought the game in-house. Fans of Rooster Teeth may already recognise the game, previously (or currently still) known as RWBY: Grim Eclipse, as Monty played it during a stream. Mat Hullum (Rooster Teeth CEO and Co-Founder) said: “RWBY is a natural choice for us to focus on for our first in-house produced video game. Fans can expect that we will bring the same level of originality in action, comedy and design to the video game that has made the RWBY animated series such a hit. We’re excited about expanding the RWBY universe, and also excited …

Criminal Girls: Invite Only and The Awakened Fate Ultimatum Coming To The West In 2015

It’s the most wonderful time of the year. I’m walking about the Anime Expo weekend…not Christmas. Andy Williams had you all fooled. A huge part of the convention’s festivities are it’s panels and with those panels comes some awesome announcements regarding video games, Anime, Manga, whatever! It’s all there! At NIS America’s panel this year, the American publisher revealed that they will be bringing both ‘Criminal Girls: Invite Only’ and ‘The Awakened Fate Ultimatum’ to North America and Europe sometime next year! No specific date was revealed. ‘Criminal Girls: Invite Only’ will be getting a release on the PlayStation Vita whereas ‘The Awakened Fate Ultimatum’ will find it’s home on the PlayStation 3. Both of these title were only ever released over in Japan but, come 2015, that is all going to change. ‘Criminal Girls: Invite Only’ is a quite a special release. It was originally a game for the PlayStation Portable but has now been brought to the Vita with a huge overall upgrade that boosts graphics quality and upgrades gameplay mechanics, as …

Persona 4 Arena Ultimax – Naoto and Kanji Character Spotlight Trailers Released

If you’re anything like me you can never get enough of the ‘Persona’ video game franchise. Lucky for us crazed fans of the series, ATLUS doesn’t leave too much of a gap between general information releases for it’s games so we’ve always got something to scratch our ‘Persona’ itch. With the release of ‘Persona 4 Arena Ultimax’ only just around the corners, players in anticipation of the game are more excited than ever. We want to see more and ATLUS is always happy to oblige. Today they have released two more character-specific trailers for the fighting game and they just so happen to focus on the true ‘beauty and the beast’ team; Naoto Shirogane and Kanji Tatsumi. These two, who you may know from ‘Persona 4’, are back again to lay the smack down in an almost elegant way, at least…that’s how Naoto does it. Kanji, on the other hand, is a little sloppy. The duo are looking absolutely awesome in this new game. With some kick-arse moves and their Persona partners at their sides, …

Freedom Wars Proves ‘Too Hard’ For Japanese Gamers

It’s a well known fact that Japanese gamers are some of the most hardcore players in the world. If ever you think you’re good at a game…there’s probably someone in Japan that can play it way better than you can. Way better! The PlayStation Vita exclusive ‘Freedom Wars’ was released about a week ago over in Japan and already comments have been circulating the web regarding the difficulty of the game with most players saying that the game is massively unbalanced. It is yet to be confirmed as to whether or not this unbeatable difficulty level was a purposeful addition to the game but regardless of that, series producer Junichi Yoshizawa has commented on these complaints saying that the production team will soon begin looking into this ‘problem’. “It has come to my attention that the current players find the degree of difficulty to be too hard. In regard to the matter, we’ll be looking at countermeasures in the next few days. With all due apologies, please wait a little longer for corresponding details and …

Naruto SUN Storm Revolution Gets Two More Promotional Videos

Slated for a September release, Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution is not too far away. Though it certainly is a mouthful to say. Heading to PS3 and Xbox 360, the title will feature over 100 of your favourite ninjas for you to pit against each other in mortal combat. “Realistically” speaking it might not exactly be fair to throw Madara Uchiha and Konohamaru into the ring together, but the game isn’t going to stop you. Enjoy yourself. The longer of the two promo vids showcases a number of features that lie within SUN Storm Revolution. Teams are divided into three subsets, known as Drive, Awakening, Ultimate Jutsu. Awakening allows characters to unlock their own latent abilities, such as Naruto’s Jinchuuriki forms, to dole out some serious punishment. Ultimate Jutsu on the other hand, relies on the members of each team, with various bonds providing unique attacks, the Uzumaki family’s True Taikyoku Rasengan for example. Finally, Drive types utilise cooperation in order to mete out pain…oh yeah, and seal opponents Awakening and Ultimate Jutsu capabilities. …

Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment Receives Western Release Date

The Western release announcements just keep flowing from Bandai Namco don’t they? In addition to Tales of Hearts R, Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment has also been designated a specific release date. The PS Vita title will hit North American shores on August 19th, whilst Europeans will have to wait a whole extra day before they can join the party. The game itself was originally released in Japan in the far flung days of April, so it’s been a bit of a wait for Sword Art Fans. Though hopefully this title will be worth the wait. Bandai seems to be hedging their bets by also including Sword Art Online: Infinity Moment within the release. I always knew it was a cool company. Originally released in Japan for the PSP (an underloved console in the West), Infinity Moment will receive an appropriate graphics boost when it takes to the Vita. So, are you going to pick up Sword Art Online and join the fray? Remember, it comes out in August so you’ve got plenty of time …

Tales of Hearts R to Hit the West in November

After receiving a rather broad release window, as in “Winter”, Tales of Hearts R has finally been dated for the West. The Americas will net the game on November 11th, while those in Europe will have to wait an additional three days, hence a November 14th release. See kids, addition is helpful. Having already been release in the bygone ere of 2008, this PS Vita port promises full 3D graphics, new anime cutscenes, full voice acting and a bunch of other features that are assumedly just as cool.As for the story itself, Bandai Namco summed it up thusly: Tales of Hearts R follows the story of Kor Meteor, a brave young man living in a small village by the sea, as he sharpens his fighting skills under the watchful eye of his grandfather. Impressed with Kor’s growing skill, his grandfather bequeaths to him a special type of weapon known as a Soma. Soma users must possess exceptionally strong Spiria, the source of all life from which the human mind and will are derived. Armed with his …

The Bots Are Back In This New Trailer For ‘Medabots 8’

Think back to your childhood. What do you remember? ‘Dragon Ball Z’. ‘Digimon’. ‘Pokemon’. What about ‘Medabots’? Is that ringing a bell? It should! it was one of the very best series’ of the late 90s and early 20s and it’s a video game series that is still running in Japan to this very day. In fact, a new game is about to be released and we’ve just been given a brand-new trailer for it. How awesome is that? I’m hoping you, reader, are just as excited as I am about this. I’m almost going nuclear just thinking about the prospect of a new ‘Medabots’ video game coming to the West, though…that has yet to be announced so don’t get TOO excited. The new game (‘Medabots 8’) was announced back in May and is set to be released on the 3DS in Japan on the 28th of August. The story will have players walk in the shoes of a young boy named Salt who is actually a junior detective. You alongside your Medabot partner – …

Adachi Announced as Free DLC For American Versions of Persona 4 Arena Ultimax

Adachi, you son of a gun! Why the heck are you in this game?! Before I move on, I am going to issue a spoiler warning so if you’ve yet to finish ‘Persona 4’ you may have certain things ruined for you because I’m sorry but I ain’t going to hold back! A few weeks ago it was announced that Adachi was added to the new ‘Persona’ fighting game ‘Persona 4 Arena Ultimax’ as a DLC character. At the time this was only announced for Japanese players who are lucky enough to get him for free at the launch of the game. It turns out North America shares the same luck because today ATLUS revealed that they will also be getting the same! Yes, this means North American players will too be getting the Adachi character DLC for free on launch. The only thing we’ve yet to be told is whether or not the rest of the Western world will be getting the same treatment but, at this point in time, I can only assume …

Missed The ‘Persona 4 Arena Ultimax’ Twitch Live Stream? We’ve Got It Right Here!

Last week ATLUS hosted a bit of a ‘mini-event’, as I’m calling it. This event took place on the world wide web, maybe you’ve heard of it. To be more exact; the live-streaming event took place on Twitch who, at this point in time, takes the crown for online video game streaming capabilities. Basically ATLUS used Twitch to show the world just how good their new game, “Persona 4 Arena Ultimax’, really is and damn did they show us! It isn’t like the world ever doubted the new fighting title’s brilliant but, even in saying that, we were still blown away with just how good it looked. There IS one bad thing about live broadcast though; not everyone will be able to watch it. Yes, so some folks missed out on the hour and a half of gameplay awesomeness, but that’s alright because ATLUS went ahead and recorded the whole thing which they then released online.Today. You can now watch the whole thing. For free. Ain’t that something? ATLUS never forgets their fans! What’s even …

Newely Announced PS Vita Game Has You Working Like A True Mangaka

Readers, allow me to open myself up a little bit, this will allow me to become closer to you while also serving as a perfect segue into the actual news: I, Frank Anthony Inglese, has always dreamed of being a Manga/Comic Book artist. It started when I was but a child; all I wanted to do was draw! Eventually I was introduced to Manga, well…that was the day my hobby exploded into a burning passion! Now, at twenty years of age, I still want to write and illustrate my own Manga/Comic Book but there’s always something standing in my way, something strong, something tempting, something…wonderful: Games. For too long games have stood in my way. They’re just so tantalizing dammit! Now though, that has all changed because a new game for the PlayStation Vita was announced, a new game that has players create their very own Manga Two worlds have finally collided! Stardom, here I come! The game, which has been titled ‘Manga Ka Keeru’, is currently in the middle of development and is being …

GACKT is making Let’s Play videos now for Nestle Japan

GACKT is a rather enigmatic man, considered by many as an icon of J-Rock music and more particularly the Visual Kei genre. That being said, it is rather odd that he has decided to launch a video series on youtube called GACKT’s Game Center, a series of Let’s Play videos featuring GACKT playing video-games while drinking fine wine besides his Lamborghini. Then again, maybe that isn’t odd at all for a man like GACKT. The series has launched its first episode which has GACKT stumbling his way through Mega Man 2, stone-faced and confused as all hell. It is definitely interesting to see GACKT kicking back and chilling out with some games and according to Famitsu he will be playing 5-10 games a month as part of GACKT’s Game Center. Perhaps the strangest part of this news is that his show GACKT’s Game Center is part of a promotion for Nestle, for some reason. But unless we want another Yellow Fried Chickenz incident it’s probably best not to ask too many questions. You can check out …

Freedom Wars Story Trailer Officially English Subbed

Hey everyone quick question: Do you like freedom? It’s pretty great right. Unfortunately for some of our digital brethren, such liberties are not so readily presented. Therefore I turn you to the aptly titled Freedom Wars. In a world where existing is a sentenceable offence, prisoners must literally wage war for what should be their inexorable right. Oh, did I mention that the game is filled to the brim with awesome enemy monsters? Because it’s totally filled to the brim with enemy monsters. Grab your weapon of choice, buddy up with fellow inmates and tear down your opponents. Awesome. Another cool little feature worth mentioning about Freedom Wars is the fact that it will actually see a release in the West. This year no less. That’s right fellow Vita owners, a new game to play. In anticipation of this, an English subtitled trailer was released alongside a note from Japan Studio Producer Junichi Yoshizawa. Wasn’t that nice of him. So get amped people, the war for freedom shall soon be upon us. How will you fight? Freedom …

Mighty No. 9: In Progress and Looking Good

If you’re one of the few (hundreds of thousands) of people who have been keeping an eye on Keiji Inafune’s latest project, you’ll be happy to know that some new footage has been released. Though still a work-in-progress, the video showcases some of Beck’s abilities as he takes on baddies in a side scrolling world of awesome. Comcept were also kind enough to reveal some more information on Beck’s accomplice, the bubbly yet determined Call. Showcasing some animated loops of her movement, the creators wish it to be known that this girl, whilst not built for combat, will do everything she can to help Beck out. Attention has also been drawn to the pink object adorning her back, you know, the one that looks like a sweet jetpack. Though we don’t yet know exactly what Call’s abilities entail, she will certainly be a valuable ally to Beck. Also, don’t you just love wordplay? Rock on Keiji Inafune.           -30-

Natural Doctrine – Western Release Date Announced

Haven’t heard of ‘Natural Doctrine’? That’s ok, until a week or two ago I was in the same shoes as you. ‘Natural Doctrine’, like a lot of RPGs out there, is set in a fantasy world populated by a slew of different races and species, some nice but others evil. As the player, you control a guard soldier named Jeff who’s main job in life is to venture out into dangerous places, wiping out benevolent forces and making it safe to travel to therefor opening the area up to be examined and excavated for its natural resources. Jeff’s life gets turned upside down one day when his crew and he run discover something that could mean the destruction of his kingdom. This game – developed and published by Kadokawa Games – was released in Japan back in April and, while it received good scores by critics, sold poorly. NIS America recently picked up the publishing rights to the title for North America and Europe, and has just recently announced the official release dates for the …

Mecha Naruto To Make An Appearance In Anime Special

We all love ‘Naruto’. Even if you hate Naruto, you still love…’Naruto’. Sentences like this don’t entirely work when the main character has the same name as the series but I’m going to just push through it anyway. I’ve met many fans of the hit Shonen Jump series ‘Naruto’ in the past that, while in love with the series, don’t entirely like the main character. I happen to be one of those people but I pride myself on being able to see the good as well as the bad, even if the bad is a ninja wearing a bright orange jumpsuit. There isn’t anything ‘stealthy’ about that. If you’ve been following recent news you may be aware that there is a brand-new ‘Naruto’ fighting game heading to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 very soon. It’s a game called “Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution’ and it features a new playable character that stands out above the rest. While you, reader, may be excited about throwing done as one of the past Hokages or maybe …

Persona 4 Arena Ultimax – Shadow Labrys and Chie Satonaka Gameplay Trailers

ATLUS, you magnificent son of a gun! You’re the gift that keeps on giving and today you’ve brought us, the pop culture world, another two gameplay trailers for your upcoming ‘Persona’ fighting game ‘Persona 4 Arena Ultimax’. Readers, if you’ve been following recent pop culture news, you’d know that ATLUS has been dominating when it comes to constant news updates regarding their latest video game titles. ‘Be it Persona 4: Dancing All Night’, ‘Persona Q: Shadow Of The Labyrinth’ or ‘Persona 4 Arena Ultimax’, not a week goes by that we don’t get some sort of trailer, screenshot or general info release and, ATLUS, we love you for it! The two videos – one featuring Shadow Labrys and the other featuring Chie Satonaka – have these lovely ladies duke it out with other fighters as they show off their moves and look damn good doing it. Fans will remember Chie, the plucky kick chick, from ‘Persona 4’ and Labrys, the shadow-annihilating weapon, from the previous fighting titles ‘Persona 4 Arena’. Well the girls are back …

Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth – New Screenshots and Info Released

When it comes to ‘Digimon’, I consider myself somewhat of a master. A ‘Digimon Master’, if you will. It’s a series that I, as well as countless people the world over, grew up with and it has stuck with me to this day. I find myself saddened because of it’s lack of presence here in the West but I’m also joyed when reading that the franchise is continuing to expand even though it is lost in countries outside of Japan. The more people I talk to, the more I realize that there is indeed a market for the series in Western countries and my faith in the taste of the masses is, once again, restored. It’s days like today, days when Bandai Namco Games grace my computer screen with more ‘Digimon’ video game news, that I truly feel the sense of elation I once did as a young boy following the series. Bandai Namco Games Japan today updated the official ‘Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth’ website to include information regarding the main characters of the game …

Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution – Sage Hashirama Joins The Fray

As far as ‘Naruto’ games go, ‘Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution’ would have to be the most in-depth. At least that’s what it is slowly making itself out to be. Over the past few months we’ve been, let’s say, ‘bombarded’ with ‘UNSR’ news, all of which has been pretty exciting stuff! As time goes by, like any game, we’re shown more and more of it with Bandai Namco Games slowly but surely releasing little nuggets of information here there and everywhere, all of which is massively exciting especially if you’re a ‘Naruto’ fan. Now even though my love for the series has almost entirely diminished, I still find myself wanting to see more of this game. Whatever Bandai Namco and CyberConnect2 are doing…they’re doing it damn well! The latest piece of ‘UNSR’ news comes in the form of a magazine scan portraying both Madara Uchiha as well as Hashirama Senju who is depicted in his ‘Sage Form’. This scan has confirmed that Hashirama will be playable in the new game alongside his ‘Sage Form’. Why is …

New “Afro Samurai” Game In The Works

Remember 2007? Good, because apart from ‘Afro Samurai’ I don’t actually remember much so maybe you could fill me in on what exactly happened that year. As a youngster still in High School, I used to troll the Anime section of any store that had one, buying random box sets or special editions. Really I wanted anything that was already complete, something I could watch in its entirety without waiting…and that’s when ‘Afro Samurai’ came along. It was a perfect release. It’s broadcast began early 2007 and by the end of the year it was on local shelves thanks to Australia’s own Madman Entertainment. Running for five episode, ‘Afro Samurai’ tells the story of a young man (voiced by non other than Samuel L. Jackson) seeking revenge on the gunfighter who killed his father. It’s set in an odd world that fuses hip-hop/rap culture with what looks to be ancient Japan, something we saw in the series ‘Samurai Champloo’ but something that was unlike the Watanabe series in so many ways. What initially attracted me …

“Freedom Wars” Japanese Launch Video Released

Imagine being born and within seconds of your new life you’re thrown into prison. That’s pretty damn terrible right? I mean, what did you do in there? You couldn’t have killed a guy, that straight up doesn’t make sense! *cough cough* Regardless of what it was that landed you in such ‘hot water’, you’re now a prisoner of the new world. Congratulations! From now until the day you die, you will be forced to battle gigantic, part-mechanical, demon monsters who’s only intentions are to wipe out what is left of the human race…at least you still get three square meals a day. Eating only bread and water is a good way to stay in shape, I hear. Don’t look at this too negatively though, you’re equipped with a whole bunch of high-powered weaponry to help you fight against these ‘Abductors’, as they’re called. Guns, swords, thick vines that shoot from your hand, you’ve got everything you need to be able to defend yourself against these genocidal beings so relax! You’ve also got yourself a nice …

Heads up, Australia! ‘One Piece – Unlimited World Red’ Hits Our Shores Tomorrow!

Are you all as excited as me about the Australian release of “One Piece – Unlimited World Red”?! Surely any good “One Piece” fan would be, not to say you’re a bad “One Piece” fan just because you’re heart isn’t about to beat out of your chest in such violent anticipation…moving on. It may be my intense love for the wonderful series that has forced me into this almost life-threatening state of anticipation, or it could be that I’m just glad to see that the PlayStation Vita is actually getting some attention…either way; tomorrow is the day that I can finally put my worries away and just get up to some no good pirate mischief. So this game, “One Piece – Unlimited World Red”, what’s so damn good about it? Good question, me. Allow me to explain: Developed by Ganbarion and published by Bandai Namco Games, this “One Piece” title, once again, takes players on the journey of a lifetime as they join the Straw Hat Crew on some familiar adventures. As of right now, …

Godzilla video game in the works for PS3

‘ROAR’ and ‘ARGHHH’ – Those are the famous words of the King of all Monsters. The hero that has inspired countless generations of monster lovers will be starring in his own brand new game from Bandai Namco Games. That’s right Godzilla will be getting a new video-game and it will be stomping a path onto the PlayStation 3. The announcement came through Famitsu magazine this past week. The magazine confirms that the game is currently 40% of the way through its development. Unfortunately the article neglects to mention whether or not that guy from Kick-Ass would rock up in the game and ruin it. I for one certainly hope not, I also hope to bleach any memory of his performance in the 2014 Godzilla film from my mind, but we aren’t all so lucky. The Godzilla video-game is set to destroy people’s wallets in Japan come Winter 2014. No word on whether it’ll be heading over to the Western front, but you know ole’ Zilla, he likes to get around. -30-

Dragon Ball Xenoverse – “Mysterious Character” Screenshots Released

Gosh I love “Dragon Ball Z”. I’ve always been a fan, even before I actually knew it was an Anime. I would love to say something along the lines of “I’ve bought every ‘Dragon Ball Z’ game” but there’s just so many of them! Maybe saying “I wish I owned every ‘Dragon Ball Z’ game” would be more accurate of a statement. Regardless, my love for the series and it’s games still burn bright so it comes as no surprise that I’m really excited for the upcoming fighting game title “Dragon Ball Xenoverse”. The first thing you notice about the game is it’s super bad-arse name…”Xenoverse”…dang. The other thing fans should have already noticed is the new character that featured in the announcement trailer of the game as well as in most of it’s press. This “mysterious character”, as he has been referred to as, has recently made another appearance around the web. Yes, he’s the star of his own batch of screenshot and, I must say; he’s one handsome fella! All jokes aside, Bandai …

Dragon Quest Awarded “Longest Running JRPG Series” Guiness World Record

The 2014 Electronics Entertainment Expo was held last week over in Los Angeles, America and with it came some incredibly exciting news regarding the next generation of gaming. Alongside a slew of new trailers and information about upcoming ‘next gen’ titles came news of a certain little video game series that has just broken the world record for, and I quote; the ‘longest running Japanese RPG series’. From us here at SnapThirty, we say ‘congratulations’ to Square Enix and their long-running, JRPG franchise ‘Final Fantasy’. Wait…I’m sorry, it looks like I’ve gotten ahead of myself a bit. The actual record breaker is ANOTHER ‘Square Enix’ video game series and the preferred JRPG of Manga writer Yoshihiro Togashi (Yu Yu Hakusho, Hunter X Hunter), of course I’m talking about a series called ‘Dragon Quest’. ‘Square Enix’, as mentioned, accepted the award from the ‘Guiness Book Of World Records’ as part of the E3 2014 celebrations and I guarantee that fans of the series could not be more elated. It’s actually quite hard to wrap your head around …
