Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire Feature One Of The Greatest Video Game Openings Of All Time

Now every gamer, apart from those living in Europe, SHOULD have their hands on the new “Pokemon” video game remakes “Omega Ruby” and “Alpha Sapphire”. The game will be hitting local shelves around Europe within the next couple of days. “ORAS”, as the duo have been abbreviated as, has been one of the most anticipated video game duos of the year and it has arrived without a hitch, delighting new and old fans of the series the world over…once again, apart from Europe. For Now.

The games feature a whole line of upgrades both as remakes and as the two latest games in the “Pokemon” franchise to be released. With all these upgrades comes a sense of nostalgia as you look back on what the original games were and how far the series has come. From a high quality Professor Birch being chased by a Poochyena to the updated designs of both Archie and Maxie, everything about this game seems to be bringing smiles to “Pokemon” fans’ faces across the globe but, for me, nothing has made me grin more than the very beginning of the game. Yes it’s nice seeing that little glob of water slide down the leaf and into the puddle of water, especially with these 3DS graphics but that’s not the opening I’m referring to. For those of you who’ve played it, you know exactly what it is that I’m talking about.

At the start of every single main “Pokemon” game you’re introduced to the world by the Professors of their respective regions. The first was Professor Oak and the most recent (X and Y) is the depressingly attractive Professor Sycamore. “ORAS”, being a remake, opens up with a familiar sight: It’s Professor Birch! We all saw that coming though, this is “Ruby” and “Sapphire” after all, but what we didn’t see coming was the low-res quality of his introduction. Unless I’m mistaken, it looks as though this is from the original games. My heart began to pound and I called out to both my fellow SnapThirty writers Luke Halliday and Kane Bugeja. They came rushing over and as soon as their eyes met the screen of my Nintendo 3DS they knew exactly what it was that was going on.

Just as our smiles began to grow unbelievably big, the footage from the original game is pulled away from you, revealing that it is the character of the remakes that was playing it on the new multi-purpose device which soon came into use the bottom screen of the 3DS functioning as your map, PokeDex, PokeNav, Battle and Trade function and so much more. This opening alone solidified this new games in as the two greatest 3DS titles to be released this year as well as two of the greatest video game remakes of all time. Obviously there’s so much more to be impressed about but nothing hits home more than directly seeing the past and the present in the one place at the one time. I practically had tears in my eyes and this is coming from a man who feels nothing for nobody or anything.

Whoever didn’t get a kick in the heart when they saw that doesn’t deserve to call themselves a true Pokemon fan :P
