Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain – Launch Trailer Released

Hideo Kojima and Konami have been prominent figures in the video game industry ever since the first Metal Gear Solid rose to fame in mid 1998. Ever since then, the two have grown together with Kojima at the helm of each and every Metal Gear Solid title, proving to the world almost single-handedly that there’s no such thing as a “bad sequel“. It’s too bad that, as of late, the two juggernauts of the video game industry have been at odds, with Kojima’s name being taken off of most promotional imagery of the upcoming Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain in a suspicious act of defiance against the man who made this all possible. Either way, The Phantom Pain is very close to getting a full release, in fact, it will hit shelves local to all of you reading on the 1st of September this year as a part of a worldwide release.

To celebrate the almost-release of what is looking to be a true Hideo Kojima masterpiece, Konami have posted an early launch trailer on their Youtube page directed by the series’ creator himself. Featuring a soft song countered by some incredibly violent and hard-hitting visuals, it’s clear that this will truly be Hideo Kojima’s magnum opus. With footage from every mainstream Metal Gear Solid title to date, ending with the aforementioned Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, this trailer does indeed make it seem like this is the end for not only Metal Gear Solid but, in a way, for Hideo Kojima himself. Even as someone not too invested in the video game series, I found myself emotionally unstable thanks to this incredible trailer, which I have provided for you all below.

As mentioned, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is getting a worldwide release for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One and Xbox 360 on the 1st of September alongside the game’s companion app for smartphones that allows you access to a palm-sized map as well as much more. This is Hideo Kojima’s legacy in one trailer, a legacy in it’s final days but one that will live on in our memories for an eternity.
