Sailor Moon (Season One) Part One – Review

Okay, I think this is better to get out of the way early: I, Frank Anthony Inglese, have never seen the hit Magical Girl Anime series Sailor Moon…until now. Yes, I know, it’s incredibly irregular that an Anime fan such as myself has not seen the series that breathed new life into the sub-genre that it is now known for almost single-handedly defining. What makes this piece of information all the more peculiar is that I co-run a website dedicated to the love of all things Japanese pop culture, of which Sailor Moon is undoubtedly at the forefront even after all these years. As the team sat down to discuss which of Madman Entertainment’s products we would be interested in reviewing, this thought came to me, and I felt as though it is my duty to experience this much-loved series once and for all. It doesn’t help that my partner happens to be a die-hard fan of the series who, on an almost daily basis up until that point, had been pressuring me into experiencing …

‘ERASED: Boku Dake Ga Inai Machi’ gets anime trailer that you’ll want to ‘rerun’

To say that I am excited for the anime adaptation of Boku Dake Ga Inai Machi, (also known as The Town Where Only I Am Missing or by its official english title ERASED) would be an understatement. I am over the moon that this manga is getting an anime adaptation and seeing the newly released trailer in action I was quick to hit the rerun on it. For those who are out of the know, ERASED: Boku Dake Ga Inai Machi is about a 28 year old struggling mangaka who has the uncontrollable ability (or responsibility?) to relive events in a groundhog day style loop until he changes the course of fate and saves lives in the process. He has little idea of how he gained this ability which he refers to as ‘reruns’ nor as to why he must continue to save lives, it is almost as if he is making up for something? The original manga which serves as the basis for the anime series has received critical acclaim for its complex plotting …

Koei Tecmo Releases Three Gameplay Trailers For Upcoming Attack On Titan Game

It’s the game all, if not most, Anime fans have been waiting on for quite some time. Up until this point in time we’ve gotten a few teaser trailers, batches of screenshots, countless pieces of information, but no good gameplay trailers like the ones that have been released today. Well, these aren’t so much “gameplay trailers” as they are informative videos detailing the deep gameplay mechanics of the upcoming PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Vita action title. It looks as though Omega Force, the developers behind the new title, have gone above and beyond to make this game as realistic as humanly possible, that is…in accordance to the series. The omni-directional manoeuvre gear physics seem tight and somewhat easy to use, and the titanic take-downs can almost be felt without even having played the game. Chances are, this new Attack On Titan game is going to be one that will be remembered for quite some time to come, just like the series! Three videos were released by Koei Tecmo: The first gives audiences a look …

La La La at Rock Bottom – Review

Pain hits us all in different ways. Sometimes it aches slowly over time accumulating as the days go by. Sometimes it hits us with all the force of a baseball bat to the head. Sometimes it hits you without you ever noticing, eating you alive from the inside. When you’re at rock bottom, pain is always a companion. What you do with that pain is what defines you. La La La at Rock Bottom has been on my mind for weeks now since I initially saw it. I just couldn’t put my feelings on this film into words because it all felt so very real. These characters, the lives they lead and the journeys that they take are all a genuine and sincere representation of a side of Japan that is all too often forgotten about it Japanese cinema – the underclass heroes who toil away and suffer under the weight of the world all the while never losing grasp of the glimmer of hope that guides them on in life. Pooch as portrayed by …

My Hero Academia Volume Two – Review

Heroes are cool. Swooping in whenever and wherever they are needed most, vanquishing evil and keeping the innocent safe. What the populace is not privy to however is the behind the scenes effort that goes into forging these stalwart beacons of hope. I  speak of training, the necessary evil in producing champions of the highest caliber. Sure running sprinting drills isn’t the most awe inspiring task in a world filled with an immeasurable number of super powers, but it just might be that hundredth dash that gave that hero the extra fraction of a second they needed to arrive in the nick of time. It may be cliche, but though everyone is not born equal, their actions may make them greater than the sum of their parts. As with every hero story ever put to paper, we began with the origin story, the answering of the call to action that sets up any great protagonist big or small, empowered or not. That being said, My Hero Academia is, in its own conception, an origin story, so …

Team Gurren Rolls Again? Tengen Toppa Website Promises New Project

Not even sure what to say about this one really, it slid in pretty hard from far left field. What I want to say personally is something along the lines of, ” Can you believe it? Can you believe it? I have no idea what this is about, but I’m excited anyway.” However, the semi-professional in me deigns a more appropriate approach, so here we go. The official Twitter account of the well known Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann anime recently posted this sneaky little link: https://t.co/vjpEvr3FRO — 天元突破グレンラガン公式 (@Gurren_Project) December 21, 2015 When followed, said link leads to a familiar, yet all too mysterious website showing the skull and glasses insignia of Team Gurren, the boisterous heroes of the anime in question. With little more than “Coming Soon…” written beneath, many are abuzz pondering just what this announcement could be about. The leading theories revolve around the “ps” located in the website’s address, and what it could possibly stand for. Some believe it is a sign for an upcoming PlayStation game, others think the letters …

Tokyo Ghoul Volume Three – Review

When this world was created, by any deity you choose to believe was the cause, do you think all living things were made as equals? Chances are, if you answered “yes” you may be the type of person who doesn’t necessarily eat meat of any kind. Slaughtering and devouring an animal is akin to believing you have the right, as a superior being, to take another creatures life for the sake of prolonging your own…some believe. Others, like myself, tend to consider this act a simple part of the natural food chain. Much like a lion hunts a gazelle, we feed on cattle, and though there are ways to survive without taking the life of another beast, there are also clear differences, both intelligence and otherwise, between us and the animals we choose to call “food”. Now what if our food was as intelligent, if not moreso, than ourselves? Does that make it wrong to hunt, kill, and feed on said creatures for sustenance? Granted, when referring to the Ghouls of Tokyo Ghoul, some more …

Bandai Namco Releases Five Minute Trailer For One Piece: Burning Blood

We know, we know, you’re all pretty freaking jazzed about the upcoming One Piece fighting game Burning Blood. How do we know? Well, hell…because we’re damn excited to! Often when a One Piece game is developed, it’s usually handled by Omega Force who love to make Warriors-style titles that pit one against many. That’s why we have three One Piece: Pirate Warriors currently available for purchase across almost all home consoles. Japan are fine, they seem to get handheld One Piece fighting game titles, so to them Burning Blood is just another one to add to the long list, but for us here in the West, well…this is on par with being a miracle. Burning Blood, unlike other mainstream One Piece video game titles, does not have players facing off against countless enemies, attacking horde after horde until one area is liberated, then moving onto another. Oh no no, One Piece: Burning Blood is a full-on fighting title that pits Logia Users against Haki Masters in ways we’ve yet to see until now. Bandai Namco …

Going Digital Once More – Digimon World: Next Order Releases New Trailer

Since the Digital Monsters first graced our collective childhoods, there has been a desire to witness the world in which they live, a desire met by the handily titled Digimon World. Spun into a franchise across the years, these games have provided stories to whet the appetites of those who wish to take their favourite Digimon friends and hit evil really, really hard, often in the face or faces  (depending on their respective constitutions). Of course, the more recent of these do good adventures have been limited to Japanese audiences, what with localisation and all, though hopefully the soon to release in the west Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth will bring a resurgence of the franchise outside its country of origin. Owing to its place within a pre-established franchise, Next Order promises gameplay elements similar to those that have graced Worlds prior. Providing the player with a protagonist male or female protagonist avatar and two digital companions, the game also promises a story of combat, villainy and mystery, or so it is gathered from the trailer. …

Shine On! JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Part Four Promo Released

Oh JoJo, that series that reminds us that not all families are conventional and that sometimes it takes the help of friends to see your goals through to the end. Of course it helps if said friends and family possesses tremendous abilities that skirt the border of reality, time, space, fiction and good sense, but the message of companionship is still underlying…I think. I’ll admit, things got a little hazy for me when the Stardust Crusaders had to fight the Sun, but that’s a story for another time. Much to the joy of Diamond Is Unbreakable fans, David Production has continued their JJBA streak by revealing their plans for the first ever anime adaptation of said fourth part of the ever expanding epic of the Joestar bloodline. Jumping ahead a little from the previous part, Diamond Is Unbreakable takes place in 1999, continuing the trend of progressive eras in the JoJo franchise (keeping in mind that Part One took place in the 1880s). With new JoJo Josuke Higashikata at the helm, the series will follow …

Suit Up! My Hero Academia Promo Teases Main Cast

It’s no secret that the writers of this fair site, myself very much included, are fans of the My Hero Academia manga that resides within Shonen Jump. As such, it’s pretty neat to know that an anime project based on said manga is set to launch in March of 2016, placing it within the Spring season. With tidbits released here and there, attentive news goers have probably seen character art depicting five of the main characters and, more recently, a listing of their respective seiyuu. Well, as is so often the case with upcoming series, more information has come to light…okay, not so much new information, but more coherent. That is to say that a new promo has streamed that showcases the character’s voices in action, along with a nice glimpse of their hero costumes. Not a whole lot more to be said about that that can’t be gleamed from actually watching the promo so, instead of wasting your time with inane banter, I’m just going to relinquish typing and put the video below. Also …

Schwing! – This Strange Hisoka Figure From Hunter X Hunter Has Exciting Potential

Have we all seen the hit Anime series Hunter X Hunter? If you haven’t…make sure you don’t tell fellow site writer Luke Halliday. He is ravenous when it comes to all things Hunter X Hunter. Chances are, even if you haven’t had the opportunity to experience this hard-hitting Shonen series for yourself, you probably know quite a bit about it. It’s only one of THE most popular series’ of all time, you’re bound to know a little bit about it. There’s a character named Hisoka who, I suppose, you could fit into the category of ‘Bad Guy’, but not for long enough to cement him in as a detrimental part of protagonist Gon’s overall journey to find his father. In fact, often at times, Hisoka actually helps. Regardless, good or bad in action, Hisoka is a terrible human being at heart. Everything he does, he does strictly for his own pleasure and benefit. If that just so happens to help one party, than I suppose it’s their lucky day. Simply as that. Hisoka has this strange …

Much Like The Might Phoenix, Kojima Productions Rises From The Ashes

It’s been a bit of a slog but finally Hideo Kojima, creator of the video game series Metal Gear, has finally been released from his contract with the now infamous video game publisher/developer juggernaut Konami. So what happens now that Kojima has finally made his departure from Konami and his former studio, Kojima Productions, has been disbanded? Well, the answer to that is quite simple; he starts fresh…with the creation of the new Kojima Productions. While Konami has kept the rights to Kojima’s critically acclaimed Metal Gear series, his own name stays with him, and that is why he has titled his new studio after his old, proving that certain special things in life cannot truly be killed. Kojima, as expected from many of those rooted deep in the video game industry, has taken with him a whole team of former Kojima Productions workers who will now accompany him as he, once again, makes a name for himself, this time separate to that of Konami. With the help of Sony Computer Entertainment, who have recently revealed that …

Assassination Classroom Promotes Second Season, Students and Fans Pleased as Punch

As readers of the site can attest, Assassination Classroom is a pretty popular series. Taking a rather unique premise and combining it with a literal class of characters, the series has gather quite the fanbase through its manga and initial anime season. Announced long ago that it would be back for a second season, the series in question has received a new key visual that showcases the happy gaggle of assassins just kind of hanging around. Just your typical hype shot that reminds the anime watching world what is coming around the seasonal corner. Along with this image also came the news that season two will run for twenty five episodes, putting it three above the run of season one. More story to get through I suppose. Though the non-symmetry of it does give a perhaps baseless sense of hope that twenty five episodes is what the season needed to run through its content, or maybe season one was an anomaly in its episode count. I’m not entirely knowledgeable on that one, just enthusiastic. On …

SnapCast Episode 44 – Best Worst Awards Show

It’s that time of year folks, that joyous period when friends and family sit down together and discuss the greatest, and not so, anime and games of the year that was. Who won you may ask? Well, if you truly wish to know, and don’t mind spending an inordinate amount of time listening to three guys with questionable knowledge and authority on the matter say words, then listen on to what is technically an awards show. -30-

Street Fighter’s Akuma To Be A Playable Character In Tekken 7: Fated Retribution

Characters crossing over between Tekken and Street Fighter is something that has actually happened a fair few times in the past. Hell, there was even a game that brought both fighting titles together, so it’s not crazy to think that a Street Fighter character would be featured in the recently announced arcade followup title Tekken 7: Fated Retribution. The very first trailer for the new edition of Tekken 7 has just been posted online courtesy of Bandai Namco Entertainment and it just so happens to feature Street Fighter’s Akuma who must, apparently, defeat Heihachi Mishima before he destroys the world…seeing as nobody else can. It’s far to say that, out of any character, Akuma being the one to take down Heihachi is quite fitting, I mean…he’s the embodiment of all evil, and also the “Supreme Master Of The Fist”. As of right now, nothing has been said regarding the specific date of this arcade title’s release, nor whether or not it will be hitting home consoles anytime soon, but it is unlike Bandai Namco Entertainment …

Lisa Lisa from Part II’s Battle Tendency takes the lead …

Play As Gear Fourth Luffy In Bandai Namco’s One Piece: Burning Blood

Bandai Namco Entertainment announced, through this week’s issue of Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump, that Luffy’s Gear Fourth form can be used as a playable character in their upcoming fighting title One Piece: Burning Blood. Revealed as the protagonist’s latest and greatest form at the very end of the Dressrosa Arc, this evolved combat style mixes the brute force of Luffy’s Busoshoku Haki (Armament Haki) with his incredible speed in a way that makes him almost unbeatable…except for the fact that his stamina is easily drained while in this mode, forcing him to return to normal after a short amount of time. Burning Blood is really busting down barriers with the way that it is being presented to audiences. It is a game that focuses on the fighting variants of Devil Fruit users in realistic (in accordance to the series) ways, but not only that; it is also introducing characters to the world of One Piece video games that have, before this, never been seen. X Drake, General Franky, and now Gear Fourth Luffy will all …

It’s getting very close to the release date of the upcoming game, and Bandai Namco Entertainment aren’t even close to being done with the slow release of their fifty plus character-specific game trailers, so they’ve had to speed up the process and release two at once every day. Final Fantasy VII Remake is Unreal…and Episodic?

A few days ago, Square Enix struck the gaming world right in its nostalgia zone by releasing the first true look at the upcoming, and long awaited, remake of Final Fantasy VII. There was dancing in the streets and a resounding cracking of knuckles as the lovers and the haters prepared to voice there opinions, as internet goes tend to do. However, the Playstation experience was not the end of FFVII Remake news, with a few juicy tidbits sliding relatively under the radar in the days proceeding. Starting off with the elephant in the room, the long desired remake of the adventures of Cloud and crew will apparently be “told across a multi-part series”. Of course, this information will drive a very large wedge between a very large group of people, namely those who approve and those who, put in the nicest way possible, don’t. To finish on a higher note, let’s begin with the negative aspects of this release schedule. First an foremost, players will not be able to see their game through start to finish …

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Eyes Of Heaven – Mariah and Narancia Ghirga Character Battle Trailers Released

Bandai Namco Entertainment are super excited for their upcoming JoJo’s Bizarre AdventuretitleEyes Of Heaven, and to celebrate it’s almost-release they plan on posting character-specific videos that span the game’s entire roster which, last time I checked, is at least fifty strong. So far the list of names is fairly thick, but it’s only going to get thicker! It seems as though Bandai Namco Entertainment have decided that one character trailer each day simply isn’t enough, and considering the fact that the game isn’t too long from getting at release, it’s obvious that there won’t be enough time to cover each of the fifty plus characters that are set to feature in this game. Today set of trailers focus on another two odd but powerful Stand users: Mariah from Part …

Up until this point in time, these particular trailers have been coming out singularly, but it seems as though Bandai Namco Entertainment have decided to give us all a little treat and release two at once. Yosh! Not only are there two videos to sink our teeth into, they both happen to focus on a couple of awesome characters; one being author insert Rohan Kishibe, and the other being an older, wiser, yet younger-looking Jotaro Kujo …

SnapThirty Crowns Best Dog In Japanese Pop Culture

For years, pop culture fanatics have been at war with each other. Countless relationships have been ruined over talks of who is best this and who is best that. For example: While some of us tend to think Persona 4’s Chie is Best Girl, others may believe it is Sword Art Online’s Asuna. The problem with this ongoing debate is that it is one fought entirely on a biased foundation, meaning that there can never be a proper resolution. This conflict is one that seems as though it is never going to end, but us here at SnapThirty want you all to know that we will be the ones to bring peace back into the pop culture world…one character at a time. On episode 43 of the SnapThirty podcast, the boys decided that they were going to run a series of tournament brackets to decide once and for all who from Japanese pop culture truly are the best of the best. While Best Girl is indeed the most sought after title in all of history, …

Nobunaga The Fool: Part Two – Review

It’s often hard reviewing two part Anime series’. Why? Well, the perfect example is this here review: Nobunaga The Fool: Part One was, let’s say, lacklustre at best. It’s now been months since I reviewed it, and my overall view of the series is that it has the potential to grow and change between releases, but the reality of the situation is that, well…it really doesn’t. Some Anime will take you by surprise with a second season, but with releases like this that split one season into two parts; chances are, if there was something wrong with the first than there’ll be something wrong with the second. That’s simply the way it goes. Bar some amazing story development, Anime like this don’t usually get much better, but in saying that, for the sake of this review, I’ve tried to keep my mind open to the possibility of this series’ second half blowing me away. Thanks to Madman Entertainment who’ve released both parts one and two down here in the great land of Australia, I’ve been …

Square Enix Releases The Very First Full Trailer For Final Fantasy VII Remake

The newly announced remake of Final Fantasy VII is probably one of the most anticipated RPG releases of contemporary times. While many of us have been holding out for Final Fantasy XV for what seems like years, I feel as though it’s VII that we’ve all secretly hoped would make it’s return first. While that may not actually be the case, the closest thing to a full release is the release of a trailer which gives us a glimpse at the Nirvana we long to reach. Square Enix dropped a bomb at the PlayStation Experience keynote over this past weekend; they released the very first full trailer for the Final Fantasy VII remake that not only shows off just how damn good this game is going to look but also how it is going to play, which may actually prove to be quite a divisive addition to this rerelease. You’ll notice, after watching through the new trailer, that Final Fantasy VII will no longer be played like a turn-based RPG. Square Enix have gone the …

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Eyes Of Heaven – Esidisi Character Battle Trailer Released

Bandai Namco Entertainment are super excited for their upcoming JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure titleEyes Of Heaven, and to celebrate it’s almost-release they plan on posting character-specific videos that span the game’s entire roster which, last time I checked, is at least fifty strong. So far the list of names is fairly thick, but it’s only going to get thicker! Before jumping in and catching a glimpse of the latest spotlight characters, why not check out those who came before it:  Jonathan Joestar, Robert E.O. Speedwagon, Jotaro Kujo,Okuyasu Nijimura, Bruno Buccellati, Joseph Joestar, Dio Brando, Gyro Zeppeli, Josuke Higashikata, Enrico Pucci, Rudol Von Stroheim, and Trish Una. I’m the type of person who always thinks about why an antagonist is just so…evil. What made them this way? When I think about the Pillar Men from JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Part II: Battle Tendency, I don’t necessarily ask myself why they’re so darn evil. I feel like if I were stuck in stone pillars for thousands of years, I’d be pretty damn pissed too! Out of the four main antagonists of Battle Tendency, Esidisi was by …

Konami Forbids Hideo Kojima From Attending 2015 Video Game Awards

I’m almost too embarrassed to write this article, but it seems as though I have to for the sake of, well…jeez, if this isn’t news than I don’t know what is. Last night, Los Angeles played host to the 2015 Video Game Awards; a gala affair wherein which the best of the best in the industry gather to celebrate the high-quality video game releases of the year. It’s your standard award ceremony, just with video games. Fairly self-explanatory. Now if you follow the industry at all, chances are you were expecting a certain few titles to be nominated for several different awards throughout the night. One of those games would have undoubtedly been Hideo Kojima’s Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. If you had guessed that it would have won at least one award, you would be right…but unfortunately the man behind the series could not make it there to accept any accolades awarded to the game for it’s excellence. Well,it’s not that he simply couldn’t make it to the ceremony…it’s that he wasn’t allowed. …

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Eyes Of Heaven – Trish Una Character Battle Trailer Released

Bandai Namco Entertainment are super excited for their upcoming JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure title Eyes Of Heaven, and to celebrate it’s almost-release they plan on posting character-specific videos that span the game’s entire roster which, last time I checked, is at least fifty strong. So far the list of names is fairly thick, but it’s only going to get thicker! Before jumping in and catching a glimpse of the latest spotlight characters, why not check out those who came before it:  Jonathan Joestar, Robert E.O. Speedwagon, Jotaro Kujo,Okuyasu Nijimura, Bruno Buccellati, Joseph Joestar, Dio Brando, Gyro Zeppeli, Josuke Higashikata, Enrico Pucci, and Rudol Von Stroheim. Today’s character-specific Eyes Of Heaven trailer focuses on one of the many memorable gang members from the series’ Part V storyline Vento Aureo with a strange ability that can work well in almost every single situation…maybe apart from one. This young “Mafiosa“, a girl named Trish Una, is part of Bruno Buccelati’s gang, and the daughter of the original boss of the mafia family; the Passione. Her stand, Spice Girl, can manipulate matter in a very …

Yo-kai Watch’s Jibanyan was inspired by tragic death of real life cat

Anyone who has watched the Yo-kai Watch anime or played the game of the same name know of cat spirit Jibanyan’s tragic backstory. It is one that is all too familiar to many pet owners out there and series creator Akihiro Hino has just confirmed that the character was inspired by a real life tragedy that he had himself witnessed. Jibanyan is the spirit of a cat that had been hit by a truck when crossing an intersection with his owner Amy. Having passed on, Jibanyan remained at the intersection haunting the spot and fighting trucks as they would pass by relentlessly hoping to one day be strong enough to stop the truck. Hino has confirmed in a recent interview that he once saw a stray cat on the side of an intersection, he played with it, became enamoured by its cuteness and wanted to take it home. Unfortunately didn’t believe he would be allowed to keep the cat so he left it behind. He would later return to that very spot to tragically discover …

Yo-kai Watch has sold over 10 million units globally, Yo-kai is Why

Everybody knows how popular Yo-kai Watch is in Japan and with the series slowly being rolled out to the rest of the world Yo-kai mania has hit a fever pitch with the series now hitting the milestone of 10 million units sold worldwide since launch. Since the first Yo-kai Watch game hit stores across America in early November after just one month the game has topped 1.7 million units sold in America alone. That is indeed an impressive feat considering it is effectively a new IP for Nintendo and Level-5 and it has simply proven to be a colossal success with more units expected to sell as we move into the Holiday season. The game is slated to hit shelves across Australia on December 5th and Europe in early 2016. With Yo-kai Watch breaking sales records across the globe many are left in awe at its success, but the answer to its success is as simple as Nintendo’s slogan puts it: Yo-kai is why. -30-

V3 Promoted and 3 Announced, Danganronpa is a Busy Franchise

Danganronpa, that oddball little series that relishes in the term dark comedy and throws subtlety out of the highest window it can find. Ah, but what fun that makes. Well, luckily for those Trigger Happy Havocers out there, the third numbered title (fifth actual, or fourth if you discount the Japan only iOS game) New Danganronpa V3: Everyone’s New Semester of Killing, has received a brief promotional trailer. Though the visuals don’t show a tremendous amount, they’re enough to know that the game will continue with the style of the main series games. The accompanying information however says that gameplay will be an “evolution” of the previous system, leaving plenty of room for everyone to speculate just how Monokuma will screw us over this time. That bear jerk. The video itself also posses the question as to whether or not you can use lies, as they change the world, leading at least myself to believe that there may be more than one way to reach the desired judgement during a trial, but that’s merely supposition on my …

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Eyes Of Heaven – Rudol Von Stroheim Character Battle Trailer Released

Speedwagon, Jotaro Kujo,Okuyasu Nijimura, Bruno Buccellati, Joseph Joestar, Dio Brando, Gyro Zeppeli, Josuke Higashikata, and Enrico Pucci. There’s nothing more advanced than Nazi technology…apparently. When the world is threatened by three naked Egyptian men born from stone pillars for a purpose which is still unbeknownst to me, who can you call to defend it? Obviously…the Nazis, and there’s one regime-lover who stands above all others thanks to the millions of dollars pumped into developing technology that could be used to replace his lost organs with countless deadly weapons. His name is Rudol Von Stroheim, and according …

One-Punch Man Creator to Add Another Notch to Anime Adaptation Belt

First things first, if you haven’t heard of One-Punch Man, then I welcome you to the first words you’ve ever read on the internet.  For the rest of you, the creator of said apathetic hero is going to have another of his creation brought to the realm of animation, via well trodden studio Bones. The series itself, named Mob Psycho 100, revolves around a character dubbed Mob. In addition to being titular, the name is in reference to his lack of impact and propensity to blend in with a crowd. However, there lies a secret behind his bland features, a terrible psychic force that will cause him to explode if his emotions reach 100%. How one quantifies emotions is a fact that escapes me at this current time, but if this series carries with it any of the charm, humour and unique energy contained within One-Punch Man, this may just be another anime season stand out. At the very least there is already an in-built fanbase, as Mob Psycho 100 was a winner of a …

Bandai Namco Europe Launches Online Store, Brings Back the Pac (Among Other Favourites)

Lovers of games and merchandise rejoice, especially if that love is specifically for content that falls under the banner of Bandai Namco, such as Tales of, Tekken or the tried and true classic Galaga. In the ever spreading trend of digitising the world, shoppers will be able to enjoy an online marketplace through which to purchase posters, canvases, coffee mugs, hoodies, t-shirts and phone cases. You know, the essentials. More specifically, the 35th Anniversary of Pac-Man is being celebrated by a series of unique designs created by 35 artists. Now why they chose that number is beyond em, but I’m sure there’s something to it. In regards to the new online storefront, Hervé Hoerdt (VP of Marketing and Digital at Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe) said: “We are all super excited about this long awaited store dedicated to our biggest fans! Our goal is to provide high quality, exclusive and unique items that have been carefully selected to communicate and represent our passion and love around iconic IPs. This is just the beginning as we are planning to work …

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Eyes Of Heaven – Enrico Pucci Character Battle Trailer Released

Speedwagon, Jotaro Kujo,Okuyasu Nijimura, Bruno Buccellati, Joseph Joestar, Dio Brando, Gyro Zeppeli, and Josuke Higashikata. Today’s video highlights a character that, long after DIO’s death, still wishes to see his divine plan through to the very end. First appearing in Part VI: Stone Ocean, Enrico Pucci is a priest at the Green Dolphin Street Prison of which main character Jolyne Cujoh is a prisoner. Being a devout follower of DIO, Enrico Pucci has a mental state that is, let’s say, less-than-stable. This man will do anything to live life according to the word of DIO, …

The Newest Trailer For Mighty No. 9 Says “Bring It!”

It’s nearly the end of the year, and Keiji Inafune’s long-awaited MegaMan spiritual successor Mighty No. 9 is set to be released on the 9th of February 2016. This means people are, once again, starting to get hyped for a video game that will hopefully be very much worth the wait. The pop culture world actually hasn’t heard from Inafune, Comcept, or Mighty No. 9 as a whole for quite some time, then all of the sudden a trailer is released that shows, we assume, the final product. I have to say…I’m pretty damn excited, despite the fact that we’ve had to wait quite a long time for it’s release. Usually, with articles like this, I try to add as much attitude in as possible. You know, just to give the news a little bit more personality. After watching the new trailer…it doesn’t look like that’s necessary at all, considering the narrator does a better job at giving the audience a bit of likable attitude than I ever could. My hope is that it disarms …

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Eyes Of Heaven – Josuke Higashikata Character Battle Trailer Released

Speedwagon, Jotaro Kujo,Okuyasu Nijimura, Bruno Buccellati, Joseph Joestar, Dio Brando, and Gyro Zeppeli. Today’s featured character is another member of the Joestar family that has a Stand who’s abilities I’m honestly not sure I entirely understand. Josuke Higashikata is the main protagonist of Part IV: Diamond Is Unbreakable, which is a story that follows the lives of three young boys as they hunt down a cereal killer who’s taking countless innocent lives in their small town. His stand, called Crazy Diamond, is much like Star Platinum in the way that it is both fast and …

Tokyo Ghoul Season One Collection (Uncut) – Review

Humanity is a fickle thing, especially when seen through the lenses of media, both factual and fictitious alike. Mired in a sense of arrogance for having broken the hold of nature, humankind is often shown as a force bent on betterment, no matter the cost. But then you get series like this, series that decide to mix up the tentative balance of the world as it stands and posit a rather complex question; What would happen if humanity fell a link in the food chain? As so many anime do, Tokyo Ghoul begins with the average daily exploits of a high school boy, who in this instance is named Kaneki. Unlike most anime however, we open with our protagonist actively making plans to ask out the girl of his youthful dreams. Now, whilst this doesn’t sound too major in text, anime fans will realise that this mindset is but a sign that romance will be the last thing this series will focus on, lest it wishes to be ten minutes long. Lo and behold, not ten …

Food Wars! (Shokugeki No Soma) Volume Eight – Review

The final pages of Food Wars! Volume seven left readers in a state of anticipation thanks to the cliffhanger ending that saw protagonist Soma finally about to go head-to-head with his Fall Classic arc nemesis Akira Hayama; the self-proclaimed master of curry. Volume seven served as an introductory volume that set up a great deal of the story that leads directly into the confrontation between these two culinary juggernauts. That then transitions almost seamlessly into the next, and possibly final, segment of this tournament-arc. Thanks to Madman Entertainment, once again, for allowing us the opportunity to review the latest release in this much-loved Manga series.   The battle of the Fall Classic preliminaries comes to a thundering close! Can Soma conjure up a curry masterpiece brilliant enough to surpass a dish from the master of fragrance, Akira Hayama? This volume also includes a bonus story about the adventures of a certain someone during her lazy summer vacation! – Madman Entertainment Volume eight took an entirely different approach to story development than volume seven which, …

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Eyes Of Heaven – Gyro Zeppeli Character Battle Trailer Released

In the JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure universe there’s this ancient technique called the Ripple that allows any master of the practice to harness the power of the sun to defeat their foes with an array of interesting and incredible weird techniques. Jonathan and Joseph Joestar both know their way around the supernatural art, as well as others like Will and Caesar Zeppeli who, unfortunately, both died for the sake of their individual Joestar family members. After a handful of story arcs, each differing greatly from the last, the world of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is re-written. No longer is there such thing as the Ripple, but there is something that supersedes it…a little technique called Spin. You know what’s going on, right? Come on, surely you do! The latest spotlight trailer focuses on the …

Twin Star Exorcists Volume Two – Review

Like it or not; we all have things from our past that we simply cannot escape. Bad memories, bad experiences, things that tested us both physically and mentally; often we wish that they could simply be erased, so we run from them. The problem is…we cannot run forever. Eventually the things we fear so gravely will catch up to us, this is an inevitability. For the Twin Star Exorcists Rokuro and Benio, their pasts are filled with nothing but tragedy; memories they wish they could escape, but never will. Volume two of Twin Star Exorcists has just been released down here in Australia thanks to Madman Entertainment, and with it comes the bombshell of a lifetime that has truly kicked this Shonen Jump Manga into second gear, readying it for the first big arc of the series; something a seasoned Shonen reader knows can make or break a Manga. Hopefully it’s not the latter. Twin Star Exorcists volume two stays in much the same realm as the first volume with it’s Shonen story elements mixed …

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Eyes Of Heaven – Dio Brando Character Battle Trailer Released

I’ve done about seven of these articles at the time of writing this one. I try my hardest to put a little bit of character specific flair into each and every one by referencing their personality types, battle tactics, etc., but with Dio Brando…all I can do is make the same jokes everyone else has already made. You know the whole “it was I, Dio” thing, yeah, it’s kind of gotten old, and yet here I am fighting with myself because, well…damn, I want to make some of those jokes too, so here I go: [Insert Dio Meme Here] Bandai Namco Entertainment are doing this interesting thing wherein which they’re periodically releasing character-specific trailers in the lead-up to their upcoming action title JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Eyes Of Heaven. So far we’ve seen about seven of them, of which I’ll make sure to specify in the latter sections of this article, and we’re only going to be seeing more and more, considering there are over fifty playable characters, and I’m fairly certain they want to get …

Seraph of the End: Vampire Reign Volume Six – Review

It has been a long held saying that the enemy of my enemy is my friend. Now, whilst this is true enough in most scenarios, the waters are noticeably muddied in conflicts containing an ever increasing number of factions. Wherein one moment you may find yourself standing shoulder to shoulder with necessitous allies, the next you may notice a blade placed firmly between your shoulder blades. Such is war in an ever crumbling society I’m afraid although, if you are particularly fortunate, you may just happen upon a few who are allies in the truest sense of the word, and ones who will leave your back remarkably un-stabbed. With vampires being the apparent jerk bags that they are, humanity is in rather swift need of a truly powerful strike force, capable of relieving a certain blood sucking sect of the world of their metaphorically big heads and well over inflated senses of ego. Luckily for this particular fictitious, apocalyptic world, Shinoa Company are here and, by way of protagonistic power, are just the ragtag team …

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Eyes Of Heaven – Joseph Joestar Character Battle Trailer Released

Tank top, check. Headband, check. Loose, flowing scarf…double check. Well damn, now you’re looking like Joseph Joestar! Bandai Namco Entertainment, to celebrate the upcoming release of their newest JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure fighting title Eyes Of Heaven, are periodically releasing different, character-specific gameplay trailers to show audiences just who they’ll be able to play as once the new game comes out and, of course, simply to build hype. The list so far is; Jonathan Joestar, Robert E.O. Speedwagon, Jotaro Kujo, Okuyasu Nijimura, and Bruno Buccellati, with the newest addition to the short but growing list being none other than Battle Tendency’s protagonist; Joseph Joestar. Oh my God! The masterful Ripple user has returned for Eyes Of Heaven stronger and more flamboyant than he’s ever been before! Whether he’s using his faithful tommy gun, his Cracker Volley technique, or the Ripple as a whole, chances are…it’s going to mean a bed time for anyone going head-to-head with this slab of man meat. Strong enough to survive the Pillar Men onslaught as a youngster, Joseph Joestar has had …

As The Gods Will – Review

Life…can be boring sometimes, let’s not kid ourselves. Between work, or study, or just a dreary kind of morning, some days just sort of drag on. Now, films will tell you a million times over that boredom is tantamount to sin in the world we live, with those bowing to monoty simply unable, or unwilling, to see the beauty in every second of existence. But movies, in essence, are fiction, stories born from reality often mired in the extraordinary, or near implausible serendipity. So how about a different approach? An approach that doesn’t so much lay the human condition bare, as it does grab it by the throat and beat you over the head with it. Takahata Shun is your fairly typical student, or at least typical of one sub-section. Less than enthusiastic about everything, Shun drifts through the days at a 1:1 pace, never revelling in excitement to send the hours flying. Heck, he even has procrastinatory plans about one day maybe asking his childhood friend out on a date. The quintessential no rush …

Rodea the Sky Soldier: We Reviewed it Thrice!

It started out as a review for the Wii U version of Rodea the Sky Soldier which, for all intents and purposes, is the primary edition of the game. But it ended up becoming a triple feature where all three versions of Rodea got their own review: Wii U, 3DS, and even the limited Wii release. The reason? They’re all very different games. All three versions may share the same story, levels, and bosses, but in terms of gameplay, mechanics, and design they are substantially different from each other, especially the Wii version. It’s also important to do this because Rodea the Sky Soldier is the biggest release by industry legend, Yuji Naka, in a very, very long time. Shigeru Miyamoto may have achieved more fame and commercial success, but during the great console war of the Nineties between SEGA and Nintendo it wasn’t just about SEGA vs. Nintendo, Mega Drive vs. SNES, Saturn vs. Nintendo 64, and Sonic vs. Mario… it was also about Naka vs. Miyamato: two creative geniuses attempting to outdo each other with innovative and fun video …

Rodea the Sky Soldier – Review (Wii)

Rodea the Sky Soldier was first announced as a Wii title many years ago, and after a slow development process and going through some publishers, it was effectively cancelled until Kadokawa Games, and later NIS America, jumped in to revive the project. In doing so, efforts were made to build an almost completely different the game for the Wii U and 3DS. Fortunately, however, the original incarnation of the game on the Wii received its final finishing touches, and was bundled with the first print copies of the Wii U release as a free bonus disc. So as it stands now, if you want to play the Wii version you need to grab a copy of the Wii U version while the first print stock lasts. As an additional, and very cool extra, you also get a reversible cover art with the Wii U art on one side and the Wii art on the other. The limited availability of the Wii version is a crying shame really, because out of all the releases the Wii version …

Rodea the Sky Soldier – Review (3DS)

It’s almost become customary to have a Wii U and 3DS edition of the same title launch simultaneously, with not only obvious cosmetic differences, but even differences in the controls and the way in which gameplay systems are implemented. We’ve seen this happen to Sonic entries on Nintendo platforms, with games like Sonic Lost World and more recently Sonic Boom. Capcom pulled this off with class when they launched Monster Hunter 3: Ultimate simultaneously on the Wii U and 3DS, with both versions being equally stellar. Rodea the Sky Soldier too joins this trend, as accompanying the main Wii U version is this 3DS version that shares most, if not all, of the gameplay systems and mechanics, albeit a few differences to make the experience more functional on the handheld. For all intents and purposes, Rodea the Sky Soldier on 3DS is the exact same game as the Wii U version, with all flaws and issues intact. That being said, Rodea on the 3DS does not feel like a watered down de-make of the Wii U game, …

Rodea the Sky Soldier – Review (Wii U)

Rodea the Sky Soldier on the Wii U is an unfortunate case of too little too late. For one thing, this was originally intended as a Wii game which then switched to the Wii U and not as a port either, but instead it was completely reworked in terms of gameplay systems and mechanics. Within the first moments into the Wii U release, you can’t help but admit that it looks like something that should have been released 4 years ago. Still, better late than never as the old saying goes, and the release of Rodea the Sky Soldier is most certainly welcome in Wii U’s ever expanding library of unique exclusives. That being said, Rodea the Sky Soldier is a very, very flawed release. It has moments of brilliance for sure, but for every moment of bliss there are at least five moments of irritating frustration to dampen the experience that Rodea the Sky Soldier intended to provide. Rodea the Sky Soldier  tells the story of  a great war between two kingdoms: Naga the Machine Empire …

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Eyes Of Heaven – Bruno Buccellati Character Battle Trailer Released

By now I’m sure you know the story, but I’ll reiterate quickly for the sake of consistence: Bandai Namco Entertainment, in the lead up to the release of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Eyes Of Heaven, are systematically releasing character-specific battle trailers that showcase the abilities of each and every individual addition to the new game’s roster. So far, we’ve seen trailers for Jonathan Joestar, Robert E.O.Speedwagon, Jotaron Kujo, and Okuyasu Nijimura, but today’s video focuses on none other than the zipper man himself; Bruno Buccellati. This young gangster made his first appearance in the one-shot Manga “Jolyne, Fly High With Gucchi” but became a fully fleshed-out character in the pages of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure – Part 4: Vento Aureo alongside main character Giorno Giovanna. His stand, Sticky Fingers, has the strange but applicable ability to zip open portals into any physical matter by manifesting a zipper over the area he wishes. His ability can be used to hide, making it easy for him to get the drop on his enemy, but it isn’t just this strange …

World Trigger Volume Seven – Review

A Shonen Manga with an engaging storyline and likeable characters is what drives people wild. It’s why series’ like One Piece, Naruto, and Bleach rose to such high levels of fame so early on in their release. World Trigger has all that, if it didn’t, it wouldn’t have gotten it’s own Anime and Video Game. People are absolutely loving it, and so am I, but it’s not just a good storyline accompanied by good characters that makes a Shonen Manga so enjoyable, not even close. A Shonen Manga has to have a certain level of edginess shown through countless battles that highlight the strengths and weaknesses of said characters, driving the story ever forward. A true Shonen staple is memorable battles, and in volume seven of World Trigger, well…we’ve found one of, I assume, many memorable battles. In volume seven, World Trigger takes a huge step forward into the more exciting bulk of it’s story by introducing audiences to a team of antagonists that, while not yet entirely established, show clear signs of hostility, and …

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Eyes Of Heaven – Okuyasu Nijimura Character Battle Trailer Released

I would say “make space for a new character” but it seems as though this particular juvenile delinquent can do that himself. As you know; Bandai Namco Entertainment are building hype for the upcoming release of their latest JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure fighting title Eyes Of Heaven. In the lead-up to the game’s release, the publisher is releasing character-specific trailers that will show most, if not all, of those who will feature on the roster for the new game, making sure to give the proper spotlight to those who maybe don’t often get it. So far, Bandai Namco Entertainment have given us trailers for Jonathan Joestar, Robert E.O. Speedwagon, and Jotaro Kujo. Today’s trailer focuses on one of the main characters from Part 4 of the series Diamond Is Unbreakable; Okuyasu Nijimura. This young man is an asset to anyone fighting by his side. His Stand, The Hand, has the ability to remove space from the universe, meaning that even long-rang fighters can’t get a chance at praying on what they though was this fighter’s weakness. …

Sword Art Online 2: Part Two – Review

The old saying goes; “never bring a knife to a gunfight“, but for Kirigaya Kazuto those words are nothing but empty letter jumbles. Kagemitsu G4 in hand, Kirito takes on each and every single gunslinger in the Bullet Of Bullets tournament with the hope of finding Death Gun; the renegade player killer and former member of the Laughing Coffin guild, stopping his murderous spree once and for all. Part two of Sword Art Online II takes place entirely in the Bullet Of Bullets events as players slowly get whittled away, and the true identity of Death Gun is inevitably revealed. If you’re in need of a quick refresh regarding part one of Sword Art Online II, I suggest taking a read of my review, which you can get to by Clicking Here. It’s worth taking the time, seeing as there will be some direct references to the comments I made in the review of the first volume scattered throughout this here review of volume two. This will be my second time watching through Sword Art Online …

My Hero Academia Is Getting It’s Very Own Video Game!?

Look, it’s no secret that My Hero Academia (Boku No Hero Academia) is quickly becoming one of the most popular Shonen Jump Mangas of recent times. It features an incredibly detailed story with amazing characters and a protagonist that really puts all other who’ve come before him to shame. The Manga has just earned itself an Anime adaptation to be spearheaded by Studio Bones and now, as it has just been announced in this Week’s Shonen Jump over in Japan, the hit Manga will be getting it’s very own videog game for the Nintendo 3DS.  It’s called My Hero Academia: Battle For All and it’s currently in early development stages. It was only a matter of time before this superhero series got itself a video game and that time will surely be in 2016, though nothing was confirmed by Bandai Namco Entertainment who are publishing the game in Japan. Battle For All is said to be a battle title that will feature most, if not all, of the main characters from the Manga series, giving …

One Piece: Burning Blood To Feature General Franky And X Drake

Yeah, I bet you didn’t expect these two One Piece characters to be featured on the roster of the upcoming fighting title One Piece: Burning Blood. So far, the most we’ve heard about this game is that it will feature realistic battles between Devil Fruit and Haki users, with those of the Logia type being able to make themselves invulnerable and those knowing how to use Haki being able to activate and shut said Logia users down, but never once was it mentioned that there would be gargantuan characters like X Drake and General Franky thrown into the mix. The latest issue of Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump has just been released over in Japan, and between the pages of this much-loved weekly magazine lies this incredible news regarding the upcoming multi-platform fighter and it’s extended roster. The screenshots featured in the full-page spot shows X Drake in his Tyrannosaurus Rex form going head-to-head with the General Franky confirming that this game will at least have one large-scale battle between two damn big characters. X Drake has …

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Eyes Of Heaven – Jotaro Kujo Character Battle Trailer Released

Bandai Namco Entertainment, to celebrate the upcoming release of their brawler title JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Eyes of Heaven, have been systematically releasing gameplay trailers focusing on specific characters from the series’ long-lineage. The first two that were released highlight the battle prowess of both Jonathan Joestar and Robert E.O. Speedwagon, and the latest character battle trailer to be released focuses entirely on the most popular JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure protagonist, the ever-broody Jotaro Kujo. Now I honestly don’t think I have to explain much regarding the main character of Stardust Crusaders because, well…everyone knows who Jotaro Kujo is. He truly is one of the most well-known Shonen Jump characters of all time and his presence is so impactful, it’s hard not to have his name burned into the side of your brain. With his Stand Star Platinum at his side, this juvenile delinquent can pretty much trump any adversary that stands in his way, even the all powerful DIO, whom he decimated with a single punch…practically. Returning from Eyes Of Heaven’s predecessor All-Star Battle, Jotaru Kujo …

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Eyes Of Heaven – Robert E.O. Speedwagon Character Battle Trailer Released

Let’s be entirely honest, readers; Robert E.O. Speedwagon is everyone’s favorite JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure character. I mean, Jotaro Kujo is pretty damn cool with his rough hat and his long coat, but do you know what’s cooler? Pretty much everything owned by Robert E.O. Speedwagon and, yes, I WILL be referring to Robert E.O. Speedwagon by his full name throughout this entire article. It’s what Robert E.O. Speedwagon deserves. Nothing less. So, considering you’ve already read the title of this here article, I’m sure you are already aware that Robert E.O. Speedwagon will be a playable character in the upcoming Bandai Namco Entertainment brawler title JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Eye’s Of Heaven. A few days ago, Bandai Namco released a video highlighting the battle tactics of the long-running series’ original protagonist Jonathan Joestar, but it’s not time to make way for his first ever friend and greatest ally; Robert E.O. Speedwagon. If you’re the type of person who’s wondering how Robert E.O. Speedwagon would fight if he ever had the absolute need to, this is the …

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Eyes Of Heaven – Jonathan Joestar Character Battle Trailer Released

You know that there’s another JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure game coming out right? Yeah, I thought so. Anyone who’s anyone know’s that! It’s called JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Eyes Of Heaven and it’s a follow up to the previously released PlayStation 3 fighting game All-Star Battle. Well it looks as though Bandai Namco Entertainment think that we’ve all forgotten about the characters that appeared in All-Star Battle and are taking this chance to re-introduce us with a series of introduction videos that should highlight some of the new additions to the game’s roster while also taking a look back at some of the old favorites. The very first in this, possible, series of fifty videos (seeing as there are fifty playable characters in the upcoming game) focuses entirely on the very first notable Joestar; Jonathan. Having had to train to defeat his step-brother Dio Brando who, in true Dio fashion, turned himself into a powerful Vampire, Jonathan trained in the art of the Ripple; an ability that uses the power of Solar Energy to vanquish foes, especially …

Xenoblade Chronicles X Shows Its Sense Of Humour In New Trailer

Nintendo Of Europe recently posted a brand-new Xenoblade Chronicles X trailer online that shows both the upcoming video game’s quirkiness and it’s more action-packed side. Titled the “Do Something A Bit More Exciting” trailer, the video showcases just how open world the game is and how unique an experience it will be for individual players the world over by highlighting just a few of the features that, previously, weren’t shown. Catching a sleeping enemy monster, going for a dip in the New Los Angeles bay, catching your friends cooking another of your friends; it’s all a possibly in Monolith Soft’s Xenoblade Chronicles X…but then so is slaying said giant monsters, incredible weapon play, and over-the-top mech battles, so…it’s got a little of something for everyone. Xenoblade Chronicles X will get a release for the Wii U across both Europe and North America on the 4th of December. -30-

First Teaser for My Hero Academia Anime Release, You Can Be A Hero!

As the hype builds for the anime adaptation of Shonen Jump’s latest hit, My Hero Academia, more and more pieces of information have begun trickling out on the upcoming series. Not only have we gotten some cast details for the series we also have now got a teaser trailer showcasing the iconic ‘You can be a hero!’ moment. The teaser which you can see below features protagonist Midoriya as he explains that people in this world are not born equal, only to be told by his idol All Might that he too can be a hero. It was confirmed earlier this week that Midoriya will be voiced by Daiki Yamashita who is reprising his role from the VOMIC (video comic) and also known for voicing Sakamichi Sonoda in Yowamushi Pedal. As for All Might he is to be voiced by Kenta Miyake, famous for voicing Mohammed Avdol in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders. As a fan of the manga myself, watching this trailer gave me chills. I honestly believe that My Hero Academia is the …

Superbeat: Xonic – Review

I know, it’s strange. Those of you who follow the site, and have done so for a while now, will know that we’re all about Japanese pop culture. It’s our thing, it’s what we do, and if you don’t mind me saying…we do it damn well. So to see a review like this on the site; one developed by Korean company Nurijoy, I understand that it can be quite startling, but we aim to please, and seeing as one of our loyal follows (@R0LAN65) has shown great interest in this title, and one of our review copy providers, Mindscape, offered it to us like they do many others, we simply couldn’t say no. Even if that wasn’t the case; Superbeat: Xonic is a rhythm game developed by a company with many years of musical experience, and they’ve, once again, created a video game that has gotten fans of the genre living all across the globe excite for what it has to offer. There’s no way we were going to let that slip by us. No way! Thank …

Shin Megami Tensei IV: Final’s Key Visual Features A Familiar Face

There’s nothing more exciting than a Nintendo Direct presentation. Nothing. Not a single thing. Well, maybe a few things, but it’s definitely close to the top of the list! While everyone is reeling over Cloud’s addition to the Super Smash Bros. roster, or the re-release of Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow, there’s a whole bunch of us out there who paid close attention not to the Western presentation but the Japan-only presentation that featured some pretty exciting little additions of which were left out of the stream only made available to us video game fans living outside of glorious Nippon. After going through the motions of a standard Nintendo Direct presentation, the video game juggernaut decided to throw us Shin Megami Tensei fans a little bone in the form of another trailer for the upcoming sequel Shin Megami Tensei IV: Final, which had only been announced a few weeks ago. Alongside this trailer, which doesn’t reveal TOO much about the upcoming game, the Nintendo Direct presentation also gave audiences a nice look at the game’s key visual …

The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess To Hit The Wii U As HD Remake

Usually I begin articles like this with some sort of preamble, detailing the history of the piece of media in question, but for news regarding The Legend Of Zelda…I don’t think any preamble is necessary. By this point in time, everybody’s very much aware that Nintendo hosted one of their Direct presentations today, using it as a chance to blow the minds of gamers all across the world. As a part of the mind-blowing, Nintendo announced that they will be re-releasing the much-loved Wii title The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess, this time as a HD remake to be released on the Wii U. Set for a release in North America on the 4th of March, the Twilight Princess HD re-release will come bundled with the newly-announced Wolf Link Amiibo which depicts the animalistic form of the Hero Of Time as he was shown in the aforementioned video game. As it turns out, the new game will not only allow the use of this particular Amiibo, but all of the other The Legend Of Zelda …

Mother 3 To Be Re-Released On The Nintendo Wii U…But Only In Japan

The latest Nintendo Direct presentation aired online today and, as usual, announced some new additions to the video game world that have brought many gamers worldwide to tears…or close to it. During the presentation, Nintendo revealed that they plan on re-releasing the Japan-only Earthbound sequel Mother 3, this time on the Wii U through the Virtual Console. Much like that of the game’s original GameBoy Advance release, the re-release seems to be only coming out in Japan…for now, or so many Western fans of the series hope. This news is just one of many that have caused countless people to break down like children, crying into their hands, and praying to the only Gods they know that Mother 3 finally gets a Western release. How do I know this? Well, I’m one of the weeping fans of this much-loved series, and I would give anything to have this Japan-only game make it’s way to local shores. Now you’re probably a little confused if you were one of the many people around the world to have …

No Longer Fantasy, Cloud Strife Rocks Up In Smash Bros. For Wii U and 3DS

Have you ever wondered what would happen if Cloud Strife from Final Fantasy VII were to fight Mario? No? Okay, me neither, but it is pretty cool that you can now pit Cloud off against many of video game’s greatest characters in what is undoubtedly the greatest video game crossover ever made. Cloud Strife has now been added to the roster of Smash Bros, joining the ranks of other legendary characters of the video game world such as Ryu from Street Fighter, Mega Man and even Dr Mario. For many gamers this has for a long time been but a dream. However it is now a reality and Cloud is officially a member of the Smash Bros universe. Nintendo promises further updates for the game in the future and has even revealed the long requested Lucas amiibo as well. You can check out the trailer for Cloud Strife below. Be sure to leave a comment below with some fantasy match up ideas. -30-

Pokemon Red, Blue and Yellow Headed to eShop, Can You Feel The Nostalgia?

Almost 20 years on from the first time we were introduced to the wonderful world of Pokemon and in many fans hearts you just can’t beat that first time. The original trilogy of Pokemon games have a great deal of nostalgic value for most Pokemon fans. They were the games where it all began and recapturing that feeling has never quite happened since despite the fact that each Pokemon game is generally always good. Well fear not, you can now relive the classics of Pokemon Red, Blue and Yellow without fear of your cartridge’s internal battery having died like mine did. Nintendo have announced they will be releasing the original trilogy on the 3DS eShop with some added wireless connectivity to make up for the lack of link cable on the 3DS. Get excited PokeFans, its time to head back to Kanto. The journey begins again. -30-

Legend of Zelda Fans Meet Linkle, The Female Version of Link

When the new Legend of Zelda game was first announced for the Wii U, many asked the question ‘Hey, is Link a girl now?’ after examining the very feminine looking protagonist for the new title. Well while Nintendo has neither confirmed nor denied that the new installment in the series will feature a female hero of time, they have however revealed Linkle, a female equivalent of Link who is set to appear in the upcoming Hyrule Warriors Legends on the Nintendo 3DS. Unlike her male counterpart, Linkle fights predominantly with duel-wielded crossbows. Her character design appears to be a half way between Link and Zelda, yet she bares a strong resemblance to the hero seen in the trailer for the new Zelda title, right down to the hoodie rather than the iconic cap. Many are speculating that Nintendo maybe giving us a taste of the new game’s protagonist in Hyrule Warriors Legends but who knows, Linkle may just be a Warriors exclusive character. Decide for yourself and watch the trailer below.

Tales of Zestiria – Review

For years now the Tales franchise has remained the last truly safe bastion of high fantasy JRPG. In a world that has become increasingly fascinated with cyberpunk sci-fi and techno-dystopias, the old guard has fallen to the way side with JRPGs focusing more on sci-fi settings and scenarios over the tradition magic filled fantasy of the genre’s past. The genre’s biggest series like Final Fantasy have shifted gears in recent times to science fiction and so too did the Tales series with the two Tales of Xillia games. Xillia released to a mixed reception with many claiming that some of the magic of Tales had been lost. With Tales of Zestiria, I can say for certain that the high fantasy Tales of old is back and it has never been better. Tales of Zestiria marks a significant return to form for the series as the game tackles a fantasy world once again. With influences of both medieval and biblical nature, Zestiria feels like a breath of fresh air for not only the franchise but the …

Library Wars: The Last Mission – Review

Ask certain people and they’ll tell you that war is a necessary element of existence. Laurell K. Hamilton in her novel Incubus Dreams writes: “They say there is no light without dark, no good without evil, no male without female, no right without wrong. That nothing can exist if it’s direct opposite does not also exist“. This, in and of itself, is an interesting theory, but when used in reference to war as a whole, well…it just becomes even more intriguing. Let’s say that, for the sake of this review, war is indeed a necessity. That maybe without it, the world could truly never be at peace; the direct opposite. Than what is worth fighting for? Some fight for love, others fight for what they believe is justice. Countries battle over land, oil, religious beliefs, and everything in between, but has a modern war ever been fought over…books? Library Wars: The Last Mission is the second in two films based on the Light Novels of the same name. These Light Novels, caused by overwhelming popularity, …

Assassination Classroom (Live Action) – Review

School can be stressful, we know this. Between the tests, memorisation and compressed social experiment that comprises the in-between, the youth of the world are understandably reluctant about the experience. And  that’s talking about a normal school, imagine what it’d be like if your teacher was an alien…and you had to kill them…for the sake of the world…and money. Okay, so it’s a pretty bizarre premise, but not one you have to develop yourself, because it already exists, in manga, anime and now, live action form. Society, whether we like to admit it or not, is often divided into segments. Now, whilst the aim of the righteous minded is to lessen and eventually erase this disparity, there are those who seek to deepen that particular line in the sand. It is from this twisted mantra that Class 3-E was born, and it is in this class that we find our story. Comprised of the lowest scoring children, this class is shunned by student and faculty alike, a living example of what not to become. It’s …

‘Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans’ The Subject of Complaints From Concerned Parents in Japan

If you have watched the new Gundam series, Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans, you are no doubt acquainted with the no nonsense iron-blooded protagonist Mikazuki, a product of his corrupt environment who has an almost biblical view of the world around him. Fans of the series would no doubt be familiar with the shocking scene in episode 3 in which the young teenage protagonist Mikazuki slays his commanding officers after they had fled battle leaving his comrades to die. While many fans found this to be an utterly compelling scene with immense implications and potential consequences down the line, some parents in Japan felt otherwise. The scene and the character of Mikazuki in particular have become the subject of a series of complaints made to the Japanese Broadcasting Ethics and Program Improvement Organization who claim to have received a cavalcade of complaints from concerned viewers over a scene depicting “several nonresistant prisoners and enemy soldiers are gunned down by the young male protagonist.” Interestingly the parents complaining about the scene feared that it would influence their children …

Breaking News: Yo-Kai Watch Isn’t Pokemon, So Let’s Stop Comparing Them

As many of you long-time readers would know; us here at SnapThirty set our sights on Level-5 and Nintendo’s “next big thing” Yo-Kai Watch for as far back as we can remember. Ever since it first hit the big time over in Japan, we’ve kept a close eye on it, making sure to keep tabs on the “goings on” of this, at the time, exciting new franchise. It’s now been something along the lines of a year and a half, since the beginning of the website, and only now after all this time has the first of a series of many Yo-Kai Watch video games hit the West. North America is the first Western continent to get their hands on a localised version of Yo-Kai Watch and, like any die-hard fans, us here at SnapThirty have scoured the web in the hopes that the North American gamers who’re currently playing through the new game are enjoying it. Yo-Kai Watch is a Japanese role-playing game that revolves around battling and befriending quirky creatures, and it seems as though many …

Inari Kon Kon – Review

What if you could be someone else? Would you live life in someone else’s shoes? Would it be better if you weren’t you? These are some of the intriguing questions that Inari Kon Kon explores in its shape shifting love story that is just about as off kilter as anime romantic comedies can get. In spite of that, the series strays from ever achieving truly great heights that its core concept promises, choosing instead to play things safe, but even safe can be quite interesting in its own way. Inari Kon Kon follows a girl named Inari Fushimi who shares her name with the famous shrine of the same name. She had grown up around the shrine and as such felt a powerful connection to the holy grounds. She is your typical shojo protagonist – clumsy, hapless and harboring a mad crush on one of the boys at school. While she does gain the power to transform into other people, what really sets Inari apart is her innate self awareness. She knows that she has …

Bakuman (Live-Action Film) – Review

The Manga industry is one of Japan’s largest, and one of the few publications that stands almost at the very top of the popularity ladder is none other than Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump. This weekly collection of new Manga chapters has introduced the world to some of the most popular series’ of all times: Dragon Ball, One Piece, Naruto, Bleach, they have all once called the pages of Weekly Shonen Jump their home. Every Shonen Jump Manga shares common themes, those of which have existed from the very beginning, and those of which continues to burn bright well into the new age of Manga-making. Friendship, Effort, and Victory; these are the key components of any good Shonen Manga, but the positive battle attitude these themes represent aren’t just for the characters, nor are they just for the readers, they also give those behind the scenes the courage and perseverance to continue making the series’ we, more than often, take for granted. Takeshi Obata and Tsugumi Ohba are two names any fan of Shonen Jump should know. Not only …

Netflix Wants To Make ‘The Animes’ Too

Following the success of simulcasting and streaming of a variety of Aniplex anime series, Netflix has expressed their intention to join the anime business and make ‘the animes’ too. Netflix has seen major success with series such as Seven Deadly Sins, Knights of Sidonia and classics like Gurren Lagann all streaming on the service. They also plan to stream Ajin: Demi Human in 2016 on the service. While CEO Reed Hastings did not elaborate on the idea of producing original anime during his interview with New York Times, he did say that he hopes that they can make a great anime show. We also hope that they can as well because more anime is cool and stuff. What do you think about Netflix potentially being the next new anime studio on the block? What are you thoughts on Westerners making what is ultimately a very Japanese medium? Let us know in the comments below. -30-

They’re Lovers And Fighters – New Kenka Bancho Title Has You Dating Juvenile Delinquents

Any avid reader of this here website will know that I have quite a big “thing” for anything related to the odd but interesting Japanese juvenile delinquent sub-culture. Characters like Jotaro Kujo from JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders, Tatsumi Oga from Beelzebub, Yusuke Urameshi from Yu Yu Hakusho, and many other characters from your favorite Anime, manga or Video Games all fall under that particular category. Now that you understand exactly what I’m talking about, I’d like to draw your attention to a video game series developed by Spike Chunsoft called Kenka Bancho. This series of brawler video game titles mostly got a Japan-exclusive release, apart from one sole Western traveler; a game called Kenka Bancho: Badass Rumble, maybe some of you out there have heard of it. Well the same company that, in the past, made these incredible action titles have only just announced that they are adding another title to the long Kenka Bancho lineage, but it’s unlike any of the game that came before, this upcoming PlayStation Vita exclusive will not have …

Date John Cena in Hilarious New Visual Novel Dating Sim Games

We have had visual novel dating sims about seducing a flock of birds but it looks like things have officially jumped the shark in the world of visual novels. The latest dating sim that has taken the internet by storm is the hilarious bad John Cena’s Sexy High School Adventure, which is more ridiculous than its name implies if you could believe it. The game plays in the traditional Japanese visual novel style, with dialogue guiding the story over imagery, with your decisions taking the story into different directions. If you choose wrong you could get a bad end and if you choose right, well you might just get wrestled by John Cena (wrestling is a euphemism for sex in case you missed it). Not only has this insane visual novel taken the internet by storm but it has already gotten a sequel John Cena’s Sexy High School Adventure 2: AA’s Through Time, which is believe it or not a Back to the Future parody starring an entire cast of John Cenas throughout different time …

Haikyu!! Part Two – Review

If you possess even an ancillary knowledge of sports, then you know one thing; it’s not over until the clock ticks zero. Even when that happens, another game lies in the future, and another after that, such is the path of a player, and such is the path of Haikyu!! Having had their share of victories and losses in the past, the Karasuno Volleyball Club has no intention of slowing down. With preliminary matches, practice matches, and whatever other kind of matches occur in volleyball looming beyond the horizon, the characters of Haikyu!! all possess that never say die attitude that keeps a series going. Jumping off right where we left off (because that’s what happens when  a series is split in half by physical release), we meet the Karasuno team amped as ever to play some volleyball. Of course that’s not all that surprising, but it is the vast majority of this series, at least when they’re not actually playing volleyball. That being said, this is a series that manages to throw in a …

Exploring The History of Kamen Rider – Showa Era (1971-1989)

Kamen Rider is one of the most popular tokusatsu series in history. It goes without saying that Kamer Rider 1 is undoubtedly one of the most iconic characters in Japanese pop culture in general, with his distinctive grasshopper-like costume. However the series has never really made a dent in the Western world, with Saban attempting to cash in on the success of Power Rangers in the 90’s with the cheap imitation of the real deal, a series they called Masked Rider failing to capture an audience and quickly getting cancelled. That said the recent adaptation Kamen Rider: Dragon Knight did fair far better in the West, even winning an Emmy award for its stunt work, but it still failed to capture audience’s imaginations in the way that the series did in Japan. Looking in from the outside, Kamen Rider can be a difficult series to get into for a number of reasons. First and foremost there is no real legal channels in which the series is available however there are those dedicated fan groups who …

Do Androids Dream of Eclectic Sequels? – NieR: Automata Shows off that Platinum Flair

Ah NieR, the little game that looked like it wouldn’t, but then did, achieving success in the hands of the cult fans, an endearment that has led to this, a sequel. Now don’t get me wrong, I am personally a big fan of NieR, though I will admit it took me a while to get around to it. Still, I consider it a mark in the positive column that even five years after its initial release, it remains a fun and thought provoking RPG experience. So, for those of you out there who also underwent journeys through a dying world, relish and resound in the news that a sequel is very much real and very much titled NieR: Automata. Set sometime after the events of its predecessor, Automata tells the story of yet another war, this time between the remnants of humanity and an army of machines…who are from a different planet. That’s right folks, just when you though the quirky couldn’t get quirkier, robot aliens have come down to take over what is left …

Best Buy’s Pre-Order Bonus For Xenoblade Chronicles X Is High On Taste But Low On Nutrition

Most, if not all, video game retailers like to give small gifts as incentive for pre-ordering upcoming games. We call these pre-order bonuses, and they’re usually pretty sweet. Some new titles come with full-sized replicas of in-game weapons, others come with a redeemable voucher that unlocks extra download content for zero the cost. Whatever the case, the extras are usually good enough to entice you into sinking money into a title early. Nintnedo’s upcoming Wii U title, Xenoblade Chronicles X, is an Action/RPG about gigantic mechs fighting grotesque beasts on a planet in the process of being terraformed…so why is it that Best Buy is giving away ten dollar pizza vouchers to those who pre-order the game now? No, you didn’t misread: Best Buys all across North America, as a pre-order incentive, are giving away coupon codes that can only be redeemed through this website: Click Here. Instead of offering players a small figurine, or some extra costumes for characters, Best Buy feels as though the ultimate way to enjoy Xenoblade Chronicles X is by being …
