Disgaea 5 Reveals Second Trailer & Some New Classes

With hype already this high, despite having only released one trailer, Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance is looking to be another hit in Nippon Ichi’s line-up. Like every Disgaea before it. As such, eager fans may be happy to know that a new trailer has just been dropped and that it runs for just over six minutes. Yep, no twenty second teasers, we’re getting into the details now folks. Said trailer features footage of a number of the game’s elements, from combo attacks, to the item world, to the character world, to even establishing smaller squads within your army for added perks. But if you feel like checking out some information in a less animated medium, why not check out the pictures of some newly added classes. They’re awesome, they’re weird, they’re kinda cute. Typical Disgaea. -30-

Lupin The Third: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine – Complete Box Set Review

Pop culture does something with showing the life of a criminal that makes it look so appealing. Whenever we’re shown a character who lives a life of crime, they’re always very good at it: They never get caught, they’re always on the move and any time they’re in danger they always find a way out of it. Why is it that we’re constantly confronted with such romantic views of felonious lifestyles? Is it so we’re conditioned not to fear that which we should fear? No. Probably not. I think that maybe experiencing stories about semi-kindhearted badguys is a lot more enjoyable than watching another movie about a knight in shining armour. At least, that’s the conclusion I came to after watching the critically acclaimed Anime series from 2012; “Lupin The Third: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine”, which has been recently released in Australia as a complete collection thanks to Hanabee Entertainment. “Lupin The Third” has been around longer than many people can even remember but it is “The Woman Called Fujiko Mine” that has brought this almost …

Winter 2015 Anime Season Watch Guide

With the Winter 2015 anime season imminent, we will be taking a look through the best and worst upcoming series set to premiere this season. We will be detailing which series you should watch, which series you should consider and which series you should avoid all means necessary. So without further adieu, here is SnapThirty’s handy Winter 2015 anime season watch guide. Watch These are the series that look to be the cream of the crop, these are the series that you must watch: Death Parade (Madhouse, January 10th) In 2014 we were treated to something rather unique in the anime world, a billiards anime. Now here we stand at the threshold of 2015 with that very same OVA now getting a full fledged series. Death Billiards (as the OVA was known) was a suspenseful thriller that saw two unlikely bar flies finding themselves wrapped up in the most important game of bar room billiards of their lives. Now that same concept will become a full length series. What possibilities await leaves me highly curious for this upcoming …

World Trigger Volume Two – Review

Here we are at “World Trigger” volume two. My likes and dislikes are, surprisingly enough, divided by pretty simple guidelines: Give me something that piques my imagination and allows me to escape just as much into my own head as into the world of the story I’m reading, watching or playing and it gets an everlasting spot in my “Like” list. Give me something that is one-dimensional, ill-explained and overall boring, and I’ll simply forget it which, in turn, will land it on my “Dislike” list. “World Trigger” I never thought would be a series I’d continue reading. In fact, I never even thought about picking it up until Madman Entertainment offered it to us but here I am, onto volume two and before I’ve even finished I’m already in the mood for more. Like any other Manga series, volume two continues directly off of volume one so I’d suggest you read the first before moving on, or at least read my review of volume one of which you can find by Clicking Here. …

Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth – Get It Early And Nab Yourself An Omnimon Zwart…Eventually

There’s this awesome new trend in the video game industry where publishers and developers will offer certain bonuses to people in the world who pre-order one of their titles or who buy it as quickly as they possibly can. We call these “Day One Bonuses”, “Pre-Order Bonuses” and other variations of that because, well…that’s exactly what they are. Most games will offer quick buyers some sort of reward for doing so like an alternate costume for the main character, some powerful weapons to put you ahead of the game or even some new levels to play through. Either way, it’s all a marketing campaign to get people to buy the game straight away and, as long as they’re giving me free stuff, I couldn’t care less. Bandai Namco Games Japan (soon to be Bandai Namco Entertainment) announced that their upcoming PlayStation Vita title “Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth” is going to have its very own “Day One Edition” which gifts players two extra Digimon to add to their team at the start of the game: Black …

World Trigger Volume One – Review

It’s been a very long time since I last read a Manga by famed publisher Shonen Jump. I used to be a huge fan back in my teen years which, coincidentally, is the target demographic for Shonen Manga’s like “Bleach” and “Naruto” but as I continued to grow, my love for these series’ began to dwindle. This is why I found myself in a very odd place when Madman Entertainment reached out to us an offered a copy of “World Trigger” volume one. For some reason I figuratively lunged at the chance to review a contemporary Shonen Manga despite my dislike for the recently-aired Anime adaptation and for the Shonen genre as a whole. Something deep within forced me onto “World Trigger” and, for the life of me, I cannot figure out just what it was. I just hope doing so doesn’t lead me down a path of review copies I can’t even stand to pick up…but Madman hasn’t let me down before so I’m hoping they won’t start now with “World Trigger”. (Written before …

One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 Announced for Western Release

Yohohoho! Calling all prospective Pirate Kings (who live in Europe, Middle-East and Australasia) who feel like getting down to some serious business in 2015. For those of you who want to bring the fight to ludicrous amounts of enemies (and you own a PS3, PS4, PS Vita or Steam) why not check out a graphically enhanced Pirate Warrior 3? Experience the tale of Luffy as he takes on numerous villains on the path to become King of the Pirates. This time around however, the story continues a little further forward as everyone’s favourite straw hat wielding pirate takes on the terrifying Heavenly Demon himself; Donquixote Doflamingo. But fear not, because one of Luffy’s long lost allies may just be joining in on the festivities. Who is it you ask? Well I’ll give you a hint; it’s Sabo. In regards to this third jaunt down pirate combat lane, Herve Hoerdt (Vice President of IP Strategy at Bandai Namco Games Europe) said: “After two successful episodes for the “Pirate Warriors” brand, Bandai Namco Games and Koei Tecmo Games decided …

Short Peace Review

Storytelling is an age old art. From the moment that time began, people have wanted record of the events that transpire. Such is history. But stories go a step beyond that, exploring situations that may not have existed and using them to convey a message. Or just create a sense of enjoyment. But what makes a story? Is it the dialogue of characters? Is it the path that they follow? Is it the visuals that media utilises? The sound? Short answer; it’s all of these and none of these. It’s whatever you want it to be and it’s however you want to show it. First things first, Short Peace is not a concurrent film. It is a collection of four short films that each exist unto themselves and possess their own inherent personality. That being said, each is linked together by one overarching theme; Japan. Though set throughout various points in time, from the distant past to the ever further distant future, all of these adventures take place in the Land of the Rising Sun. The …

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya Review

In the topsy turvy domain that is anime, most anyone can save the world. From slackers, to former villains, to the ever popular high schooler. But, it takes a select few who can save the world and look cute doing it. Enter the Magical Girl. Because why fight for justice in anything other than a brightly coloured skirt/frill collaboration? That being said, not all of these maidens of justice assume the role willingly. Sometimes there are forces at work that spread far beyond the confines of daily life…or any kind of life. Meet Illyasviel von Einzbern, your typical high school girl with your typically atypical anime heroine name. Spending her days studying, watching anime (ironically of the magical girl genre, though we’ll come to that later) and quietly pining after her brother…who is adopted, so it’s…ok? I don’t know, it’s anime, we just have to deal. Anyway, after a brief introduction to her daily schedule, Illya’s life is thrown for an absolute loop when a magic wand plummets towards her house. Said wand, dubbed Kaleidostick …

Kill la Kill Volume 2 Review

We’re back at Honnouji baby! The most ridiculous school to ever grace the realm of anime. Don’t believe me? Then you clearly haven’t watched Kill la Kill. Which is weird considering that you’re reading the second instalment of a review. But I won’t judge, the more the merrier as they say. So sit back, relax and hold on tight as we take another trip into a dictatorship that prides itself on snazzy clothes. Just when you were getting a handle on how Hannouji works and where those within the system stand, boom, mysterious figure straight from left field. He buff. He’s got a red Mohawk. He’s got super needle machine guns that weaken Goku Uniforms. But worse than all of that, he’s got his sights set on Ryuko. She cannot catch a break can she? Though her opponents have been rather pedestrian of late, Tsumugu (Mohawk guy) serves as one hell of a wake-up call…to all off us. With a vendetta against Senketsu, due to the nature of his creation, Tsumugu proves relentless in his …

Final Fantasy Type-0 HD and Final Fantasy XV Net New Trailers

Courtesy of a little shindig known as Jump Festa 2014, the duo of upcoming Final Fantasy titles have received new trailers. Highlighting some of the title’s fast paced combat, Type-0’s trailer presents Class Zero’s struggle against those who would attack the Dominion of Rubrum, as well as the trials they faces as students of war. The innate maturity of which is captured by the haunting song that overlays the trailer’s opening, though it later fades into a more triumphant tune, not that it makes it any less sad. Not to be outdone, Final Fantasy XV also presents some of its exciting features and familiar faces, complete with full English voiceover. Additionally, you may enjoy looking at the towns that populate the game and create the world at large and showcase the more industrial vibe of the game…also there’s a giant Eidolon. It’s name is Titan and it’s big. -30-

Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth Is The Game We’ve Always Wanted And The New Trailer Proves It

So Japan are getting themselves a new game in the March of next year. Maybe you’ve heard of it; it’s called “Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth” and it features everything a long-time “Digimon” fan like myself could have ever asked for. Not only is it a contemporary “Digimon” video game (which is enough to get anybody excited) but it also plays host to some of the most awesome graphics I’ve ever seen in a franchise title as well as some of my favorite “Digimon” of all time. It also helps that it is a PlayStation Vita game, of which I happen to be a huge fanboy. Well Bandai Namco Games Japan have today released a new trailer for the upcoming game that goes for a whopping five minutes and basically outlines, in video form, all the information we’ve been delivered over the past few months in written form only. For those of you who’ve been living under a rock, or something large and solid similar to a rock: “Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth” follows a young hero, male or …

No other anime this year redefined the very definition of what anime is and could be more than Space Dandy. Helmed by legendary director Shinichiro Watanabe it was almost a given that Space Dandy was going to be good. Regardless of that I don’t think anyone could ever have expected the impact this crazy space comedy could possibly have had …

J-Stars Victory Vs+ Is Westward Bound!

Do you like shonen? Do you like videogames? Do you like action (which I guess goes hand in hand with the whole shonen thing)? Well good news! J-Stars Victory Vs+ is making its way to the west, you know that place that’s not the east? Well it’s heading there…I mean here and for the PS3, PS4 and PS Vita no less. With over 30 series building the roster of this battle royale, you may recognise a few familiar faces from One Piece, Naruto, Bleach, Dragon Ball Z and a whole bunch more. While you’re at it, why not take the fight to some locales from said series, like Namek for example (that place has a pretty good track record for combat). You are also free to choose between a few different game modes to alter their experience. J-Adventure Story Moe for example allows you to battle through different worlds to determine the strongest character. Or, if you want some companionship, take on the 2 vs 2 Team Battle Mode that lets four players duke it out for bragging rights. …

SnapThirty Presents: SnapCast Episode 13 – AOTY Awards

In this episode, Kane, Frank and Luke (or whatever they’re calling themselves these days) decide which series deserve to receive a prestigious SnapThirty Anime of the Year Award. Granted, it is weird that the guys stay on point and actually discuss anime, but fear not because they also prove that, no matter the topic, they are not a serious bunch. Astro Boy Reboot Receives First Promotional Image

No you didn’t read that wrong, Astro Boy is getting a reboot. Now, this raises two distinct bases of fan: those looking forward to seeing anew instalment in one of anime’s most classic franchises and those who believe it should be left alone. But whatever your stance, you’ll have to wait a little longer to formulate your opinion because we have but one image at this point in time. Set to be a 2D/3D visual mix, the series has permission to depart from the original and create its own original story, a first for new Astro Boy media. As such, a few new characters are set to join the series along with, “positive things from the past version,” as stated by Cedric Biscay, founder of Shibuya Productions (the company behind the reboot).

Haikyuu!! Second Season Announced

Spikers, blockers, liberos and setters get ready because Haikyuu!! is coming back for a second season. Yay. Though information is decidedly sparse at the moment, I’m just kinda amped that it’s coming back. Last season left us wanting to see a little more of that Karasuno spirit in action and the crazy plays it creates. But for now all we have is the one visual…I’m not really sure what else to say here. So until more details come to light, all we can do is wait and ponder what will happen next. My money’s on more volleyball. -30-

Dragon Ball Xenoverse Gameplay Trailers Showcase Some Powerful Combatants

Hey, do you like Dragon Ball? If you answered yes, then you’ll enjoy what comes next. If not, you can read it anyway. With Xenoverse soon to hit consoles, a few gameplay videos, three to be specific, have been released showing some not-yet-classic matchups from the more recent media. Following off from the lastest film, the game shows us a rematch between Super Saiyan God Goku and Beerus, God of Destruction. Then, just for the fun of it, Beerus, the God of Destruction versus Whis, Aide to Beerus, the God of Destruction. then Super Saiyan 4 Goku versus Super 17 because why not? -30-

New Blood Blockade Battlefront Trailer Showcases Cast

With the anime series on its way, Blood Blockade Battlefront has received a new trailer that shows off a few of the main characters as well as why this is looking to be a top series, apart from the fact that the name is just so much darn fun to say. As one might expect from a series with “blood” and “battle” in the title, the trailer features action, explosions, punching of stuff and a bunch of cool looking men and women causing all around awesomeness. So sit back and enjoy the mayhem. Though if your feeling a touch curious, you could always check out the seiyuu for the series. I’ll just leave the list right here. Klaus Von Reinhertz: Rikiya Koyama Leonardo Watch: Daisuke Sakaguchi Zap Renfro: Kazuya Nakai Chain Sumeragi: Yu Kobayashi Steven A. Starphase: Mitsuru Miyamoto K.K.: Ai Orikasa Gilbert F. Altstein: Shinji Ogawa Sonic Speed Monkey: Yuuma Uchida Femt, the king of depravity: Akira Ishida -30-

Seraph of the End Anime Gets English Subbed Trailer

As the release draws ever closer and those smug vampires begin to quake in their (presumably) expensive boots, Seraph of the End has extended its reach to those of us who need subtitles to understand anime. Thus we may now enjoy the trailer that sets up the events of the series to come, featuring vampires, vampire slayers, big monster thingies and high school. Pretty standard fare in the world of anime, which goes to show you how insane said world is. Anywho, to accompany those handy dandy subtitles, more details regarding the cast have been announced. So I will now show them to you. Yoichi Saotome: Nobuhiko Okamoto Shiho Kimizuki: Kaito Ishikawa Mitsuba Sangu: Yuka Iguchi Mikaela Hyakuya: Kensho Ono Guren Ichinose: Yuichi Nakamura Felid Bathory: Takahiro Sakurai Shinoa Hiiragi: Saori Hayami Now I will show you the trailer, partly because I’m a swell guy but mainly because that’s what I wrote in the title of the article and I don’t want to be a liar. Lying is wrong…also this series is cool. -30-

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders Teases Return

That’s right travel buddies, that ragtag group of intrepid adventurers is heading back to your screens. Having finally made it to Egypt, JoJo v3 and crew are prepped and ready to take down the infamous Dio Brando and save Holly Kujo, the one person in the entire JoJo universe who is unable to cope with the power of a stand (but that’s a complaint for another day). But of course if you know the franchise, this final Stardust arc is set to introduce a character of great importance, one who stand stronger than even Jotaro himself (or so he claims). Of course I can be talking of only one person, a hero of the ages and champion of all: Iggy…the dog. So watch your faces and ready some coffee flavoured gum because this canine is ready to stand beside the manly men of the the JoJo brigade. Oh yeah, also there’s some other new characters in the trailer…I think they’re bad guys or something. -30-

Gear Up for NJPW’s Wrestle Kingdom 9

This website is all about Japanese pop culture, and you’ve seen this place cover music, anime, video games, and manga… so what’s this pro wrestling doing in your Nippon culture haven? Don’t worry, we won’t be discussing the CM Punk Retrieval Arc any time soon… but we do want to bring your attention to the wonderful world of Japanese grappling. It’s not surprising that nearly everyone associates professional wrestling as a defining feature of the North American sports and entertainment industry, and of course most people would also appreciate the Mexican heritage of the phenomenon given the fascination with the athletic styling of Lucha Libre (and lest we forget Jack Black’s take on the art form in Nacho Libre). That said, to say that pro wrestling is as deeply embedded in Japanese history and culture just as it is in North America, Mexico, and even Great Britain, would not be an overstatement at all. In fact, Japan has such a huge pro wrestling industry that it has has dedicated fans all over the country from all generations. …

New Filler Arc Announced For The “Naruto” Anime Tells The Story of The Chunin Exams

I’m sure you’re more than aware but there was indeed a time in the “Naruto” universe where our hero simply wasn’t around. It was an angsty time for young Naruto and Sasuke who both left the village after a mighty battle wherein which the boys taught each other a true lesson about power and emotion. Sasuke left to do his own thing, joining Orochimaru who promised him a level of power that no one else could provide, with the goal that he would one day return to the Hidden Leaf Village and burn it to the ground. Naruto, on the other hand, left with one of the other legendary Sannin Jiraiya who spent two years training our hero to be the man he is today. Two similar paths that are also worlds apart: A fantastic metaphor for the relationship that these two young boys shared together. Just because the two characters left the village they grew up in, doesn’t mean that nothing happened while they were gone. Actually, according to this announcement, a great deal happened …

“Yokai Watch” To Air In North America and Europe

People, this is the news we’ve all been waiting for! Well, at least, this is the news Luke Halliday and I have been waiting for. If you’ve not heard of the video game/Anime series “Yokai Watch” than we’re very disappointed in you because even though it’s a young franchise, it has quickly become one of the most beloved video game and Anime series’ of Japan, and now that this announcement has been made, it will quickly come to take over the entire world. Originally, “Yokai Watch” was just a simple Nintendo 3DS game from the developers Level-5 who you may know have produced the games “Fantasy Life”, “Attack Of The Friday Monsters”, “Ni No Kuni: Wrath Of The White Witch” and many other much-loved games. This simple 3DS title, which has been compared to that of the “Pokemon” series of video games, follows the story of a young boy or girl who comes into contact with an ancient ghost living in a gashapon machine that gifts him/her something called the “Yokai Watch”. This watch allows the young …

Silver Spoon Review

If you’d have asked me what sort of series Hiromu Arakawa would make after her shonen epic Full Metal Alchemist I think I’d be forgiven for not thinking immediately of ‘farming manga’. But that is exactly what Arakawa has done. In what is essentially the furthest thing from what brought her to the game, Arakawa has went all in on the farming concept with Silver Spoon, one of the most delightful slice of life series in recent memory. Silver Spoon follows Hachiken a city boy who one day decides to enrol in an agriculture school out in the boonies named Ezono. Many of the students at the school have been born into the farming business and Hachiken’s decision to join this school was rather simple, it had its own dormitory and it would get him out of the city. Why he wanted to do just that serves as a driving mystery for the series as we see Hachiken struggle to adapt to the farming life. What follows is one of the anime equivalent of easy …

Danganronpa: Unlimited Blade – The Very First Mobile Game In The Series

Now THIS is what “Danganronpa” fans have been asking for ever since the release of the first game! Yes, this is true; Spike Chunsoft have today announced that they will soon be releasing an iOS/Mobile game titled “Danganronpa: Unlimited Blade” which, unlike the rest of the titles in the series, will feature no real puzzle solving and, in fact, none of the gameplay elements fans of the series have come to know and love. This upcoming free-to-play game will star the main cast of the first “Danganronpa” game and will play host to a gameplay style somewhat similar to that of “Angry Birds”. Basically you choose a team of your four favorite characters and use slingshot-like touch controls to send them flying into enemies. Spike Chunsoft have also said that each of the characters are going to have spoken dialogue lines during “action scenes”, whatever that means, and that each of the voice artists from the main game will reprise their roles for this one. As of right now that’s all we really know about the …

Bandai Namco Games Is Getting Another Name Change

I’ve been alive for about twenty years at this point in time and, I’ve got to be honest…I’m getting pretty bored of my name. Frank…that’s kind of simple. I really should change my name. Maybe I should change it every couple of years to stave off the monotony of having a single name for my entire life. You know who has it right? Bandai Namco Games. Well, no actually, what I should be calling them is “Bandai Namco Entertainment” because, starting in April of next year, the video game developer/publisher is changing their name once again! Originally it was Namco Bandai Games for many years but in recent times the company leaders decided that fans of the industry juggernaut needed to be about twenty percent more confused when referring to them so they changed their name to Bandai Namco Games. Now, at the end of 2014, the company has come out and announced that they will be changing their name once again to fit in with their new image that doesn’t necessarily just revolve around …

Final Fantasy Type-0 – Traitors Of Orience Trailer

Like any real-life war, propaganda is used to boost the morale of a certain side’s men and women while simultaneously breaking the spirit of the enemy. Despite “Final Fantasy Type-0” being, well…a fantasy title, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have an air of truth about it. Coming only a day after the “Orience News Special Report” trailer which showed just a few of the main cast in a positive light, Square Enix delivers us another trailer which introduces us to more of the crew but is set out like an enemy propaganda film, showing these freedom fighters as cowards and backstabbers. “Final Fantasy Type-0” is set for a release in 2015 on the PlayStation 4 both in and outside of Japan but seeing as how it’s still a little while away, I’d say just enjoy what trailers we have right now and prepare for one hell of an RPG. -30-

The Japan Film Festival is Done And Dusted For Another Year, Here’s How It Went

Another year, another film festival. One Piece: Super Grand Battle! X – More Amiibo Costumes Revealed

A few days ago, fellow SnapThirty writer Kane Bugeja reported on a piece of news that detailed the newly released “One Piece: Super Grand Battle! X” fighting game’s ability to use the recently released line of Amiibo intractable figurines to change the costumes of certain characters to resemble the character model connected to the game. Luffy can be dressed up as Mario and Luigi, Zolo can be dressed as Link and Sanji can be dressed as Fox McCloud. Well, Nintendo and Bandai Namco Games have gone ahead and revealed the rest of the Straw Hat crew and their Amiibo costumes and they’re looking just as good, if not better, than the ones revealed three days ago. In the image you can see Nami as the Wii Fit Trainer, Franky as Donkey Kong, Brooks as Marth, Chopper as Kirby and Robin as Samus Aran. As of right now, this game has only been announced for Japan and has already been made available in the great country. We don’t know whether or not the game is going to get …

Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 – Gameplay Footage Released

I know this is what you’ve been waiting for, reader. I’ve been checking the site statistics and most people visiting this site are doing so because of our “Naruto” content. As of late, most people have been coming thanks to our news on the upcoming “Naruto” fighting game for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One “Ultimate Ninja Storm 4” and so I know for a fact that you’ll enjoy this little video that we have for you today. Bandai Namco Games Japan, through the Youtube user PS360HD2 have begun showing the demo for the upcoming game and luckily for us living outside of the great country they have also begun releasing little clips from the game to come that show off just how good it is going to look on release. Now the video below does indeed go for just over a minute…but what you’re seeing is basically the first twenty seconds repeated over and over again. It’s still a damn good twenty seconds though, so don’t skip out on it! This small clip shows …

Final Fantasy Type-0 HD – Orience News Special Report Trailer

It’s almost the end of 2014 which means 2015 is just around the corner which means, again, there are a whole bunch of games just over the horizon that are prepped and ready for a release in the brand-new year. One of those games happens to be Square Enix’s much anticipated “Final Fantasy Type-0 HD” which features fourteen playable characters that can be traded in and out at you, the gamers’, will. With such a huge main cast it can sometimes seems as though you won’t even get a chance to fully learn about just who these people are. We know they’re part of the elite team of fighting students and we know that they’re ultimately fighting for the freedom of the country but who are they really? What are their likes and dislikes? Why did King decide that he wanted to look like Macklemore with a mullet? All these questions are ones that keep me up at night but Square Enix look as though they’ve got us covered with the first of what will …

The Awakened Fate Ultimatum Announced For A North American/European Release

There exists a place between the land of the good and the land of the evil but this place is occupied by beings that fall under both categories. It’s a place we call “the real world” but little do we know that this world may not even truly be the “real” one. When Heaven and Hell clash, there are really only human casualties that get caught in between the crossfire and with the upcoming NIS America title “The Awakened Fate Ultimatum”, which has just been announced to be making its way to the West in 2015, you’ll be able to experience what it is like to be a God that must go to way with the forces of the malevolent for the sake of both the human world and the plane of existence where Heaven lies. “The Awakened Fate Ultimatum” is just another RPG title that NIS America is bringing to the West in 2015 and, to be entirely honest…I’m so very excited for it. As of late I’ve found myself loving RPGs more and …

Operation Abyss: New Tokyo Legacy Announced For A North American/European Release

When you do something great, it’s stupid for you to stop doing those things to start doing something else. The great Renaissance artist Michelangelo didn’t stop painting and instead begin making music. No…he became a Ninja Turtle but that was much later in his life. What I’m saying is that you should stick to what you’ve mastered and the team over at Experience Inc. are living up to their name and using that experience to, once again, bring us another great dungeon-crawling RPG and it goes by the name “Operation Abyss: New Tokyo Legacy”. You may have heard of these guys and gals if you’re familiar with the recent PlayStation Vita title “Demon Gaze”. Well Experience Inc. made that and now they’ve developed “OA: New Tokyo Legacy” with, thanks to NIS America, will be hitting North American and European shelves in the Spring of 2015 exclusively for the PlayStation Vita. NIS are trying to dominate the gaming market of 2015 and I cannot complain at all, but when it comes to explaining just why it is …

Disgaea 5 Announced For A North American/European Release

Hype has been swelling around the the newly announced “Disgaea 5” as of late but with all that hype came soft thoughts of whether or not the new tactical RPG title will actually be making it to the West, especially with the comments made by Nippon Ichi Software regarding their financial situation which, rumour has it, is a false statement. With so much uncertainty floating around it’s hard to put your finger on some solid information but NIS America have announced something that will bring a little bit of thought stability to fans of the series: “Disgaea 5” WILL be making its way to the West in the Fall/Autumn of 2015 exclusively for the PlayStation 4. With some awesome updated graphics and the same gameplay mechanics you’ve come to know and love but with a few tweaks for a fresh new take, it’s pretty hard to pass up the new “Disgaea 5” but don’t take it from me, NIS America know exactly why their upcoming game will be legendary and this is why: Alliance Attacks: …

Kingdom Hearts 2.5 HD Remix Review

Kingdom Hearts fans are used to waiting. It was nearly a decade ago that Kingdom Hearts II was first released and nearing 15 years since the original Kingdom Hearts game was released. Yet in spite of all of that, fans have found their appetite for more Kingdom Hearts sated by spin-offs and remakes all on the long road to the highly anticipated Kingdom Hearts III. So what is it about Kingdom Hearts that keeps fans coming back for more? Why is it that a remake such as Kingdom Hearts 2.5 HD Remix becomes essential gaming for Kingdom Hearts fans new and old? It’s quite simple really – this is Kingdom Hearts perfected. There is no two ways about it, this is the definitive Kingdom Hearts experience. As far as the story of Kingdom Hearts goes, it is more than a little bit complicated. At times the series has become convoluted with the multiple spin-offs set in different time periods and worlds. The effects of that are clear here in Kingdom Hearts 2.5 HD Remix which …

Bandai Namco Games Announces “JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Eyes Of Heaven” Fighting Game

Di molto! It was announced today through Japan’s V-Jump Magazine that there’s a new “JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure” game on its way and goes by the name “Eyes Of Heaven”. Labelled a “follow up” to the PlayStation 3 fighting game “All-Star Battle”, “Eyes Of Heaven” is set for a release on both the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4, and will feature a character roster similar to the original game but with some extra additions, two of which have already been revealed: The partial dinosaur Diego Brando (“Steel Ball Run”) and the worlds least-hated Nazi soldier Rudol Von Stroheim (“Battle Tendency”), though if this game is anything like “All-Star Battle”…those names will probably be changed by the time it gets localised. Diego will be voiced by Takehito Koyasu and Stroheim will be voiced by Atsushi Imaruoka, but as far as information on the new game comes…that’s about all of it. There is a new battle mechanic called the “Dual Heat Attack” which leads me to believe we’ll be able to perform combination techniques of some calibre but that’s yet to …

Chi’s New Address Review

Home. The place where you go when you want to feel comfortable, to feel calm, to feel safe. A place you can always go back to after you’re finished whatever business you have within society. But what happens when that place changes? When you move? What does it take for a new house to become a home? Chi. The cat that could, would, but probably shouldn’t do whatever she wants. Having cemented her place in the Yamada family through a combination of endearing actions and unarguable cuteness, Mum and Dad Yamada are finding it immensely difficult to hand Chi over to a family who can look after her without fear of repercussions from a landlord. Thus they arrive at the only option that they can both agree on: move. To find a place that will allow pets indoors and thus alleviate all of the stress that their rambunctious new family member has placed them under since their fortuitous meeting. Especially when they try to keep her quiet. Thus they move. Thus the title of the series. …

Bandai Showcases Star Wars Movie Realisation Samurai Figures

Ever wonder what would happen if Star Wars met traditional Japanese culture? Well regardless, wonder no more because Bandai is set to release their Samuraidaishou Stormtrooper and Darth Vader figures in May 2015. Though, as of now, the figure is only slated for a Japanese release, setting people back 8,424 yen and 9,504 yen respectively. As one might expect from their classification, these figures feature the classic villains of Star Wars rendered in samurai garb. Which looks awesome. Also rather fitting given that Darth Vader’s armour is said to be based of said attire already. It’s probably the helmet. -30-

Street Fighter V to See the Return of Charlie Nash

Though not much footage has been released regarding the upcoming instalment in the Street Fighter franchise, one particular trailer features vision of a character absent from the roster since Alpha 3. Apart from that, the trailer depicts a classic match-up between Ryu and Chun-Li. That being said, it has been stated that the game will feature a number of secrets that have yet to be revealed. So enjoy what has been announced whilst you wait for the news to come. -30-

New Yu-Gi-Oh! Film Set for 2016

No you didn’t read wrong folks, a new Yu-Gi-Oh! film is headed our way circa 2016. Having been previously teased by an official countdown clock, it has finally been revealed that said movie will feature an original story featuring two characters crucial to the franchise; Yugi Muto and Seto Kaiba. Don’t those names just take you back? No word yet on the specifics of the film, but you can be sure that more info will be revealed all the way until its release. But for now, all we’re left with is one visual and the promise that the King of Games and the King of Business will return. -30-

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate and Some Street Fighter II Collaborate for Cuteness

Now when you hear the title Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, what is the first thing that comes to mind? That’s right, cats in cute costumes. Why, what’d you think it was, monsters or something? Regardless, Capcom has announced that MH4U is collaborating with…itself to provide two brand new cosplays for your Felyne companions. So prepare for battle as two smaller, furrier versions of Chun-Li and Blanka join your party. So I think the only question left at this point is who do you choose? -30-

DmC: Devil May Cry & Devil May Cry 4 Set for PS4/XBox One Release

Get ready to dust off your revolvers and bust out the style because everybody’s favourite red cloaked demon slayer is back in action…kinda. Well, it’s action you’ve seen before but at 60 frames-per-second in 1080p…so it’s better. That’s right folks both DmC: Devil May Cry and Devil May Cry 4 are headed to the next/current generation of home consoles in what are being respectively labelled Definitive and Special Editions. As one might expect from the use of the word definitive, the new release DmC will feature all previous DLC, along with a few additional extras. So trade in red for blue and delve into Vergil’s Bloody Palace Mode, switching up protagonists and carrying on the story of Dante’s twin brother. Those who feel like challenging themselves, or those who just enjoy a masochistic gameplay experience, can check out the Gods Must Die difficulty, Must Style Mode and Hardcore Mode, which is set to play more like classic Devil May Cry games. Which blends nicely with the newly available classic costumes for the twin brothers. Capcom has …

Final Fantasy XV Trailer Receives English Dub

That’s right friends, XV is still on the way. It’s been quite a while since we first saw vision of Noctis rolling around town in his chauffeured car and a lot has changed since then. Namely the titular number. Anyway, the last TGS revealed to us a new trailer featuring what may be the FF franchises first ever road trip, just a bunch of friends hanging out, fighting monsters and showing us all the environments that we will come across when we eventually play the game ourselves. Speaking of, Square Enix has just re-released said trailer with one noticeable difference; an English dub. So sit back and enjoy your first hint of what the cast will sound like throughout your next 50+ hour JRPG adventure. -30-

Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 Is Coming To The West

Bandai Namco Games have just revealed that they already have big plans for the Western release of the recently-announced next addition to the “Naruto” video game franchise “Ultimate Ninja Storm 4”  and it comes in the form of a true next generation console release. When announced through Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen jump just the other day, “Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4” had only been noted down as a PlayStation 4 release. Well, Bandai Namco Games are going to change that with their localization of the game, announcing that it will be coming to both the Xbox One and the PC (through Steam) as well as for Sony’s latest console. Labelled the “final massive strike”, audiences are lead to believe this is the final “Naruto” game ever, but I stand a little more sceptical. Not shown in the announcement from Shonen Jump but provided by Bandai Namco Games is the official box art for the upcoming fighting game which, unfortunately, has already been met with a level of dislike from fans the world over due to how …

‘One Piece: Super Grand Battle X’ is the First Non-Nintendo Game to Feature Amiibo, Thanks Bandai Namco!

Bandai Namco will be the first third-party developer to make use of Nintendo’s blockbuster success of the Amiibo figures by implementing them into the upcoming One Piece game, One Piece: Super Grand Battle X. The game is slated for the 3DS and will make use of the New 3DS’ Amiibo functionality by bringing the colourful world of Nintendo into the One Piece realm with unlockable costumes and abilities for the Straw Hat Crew. While it appears that there isn’t any plans as of yet to bring this to the West, Bandai Namco are really breaking down the door when it comes to taking advantage of this incredible technology. With potential for other developers to jump in on the fun, the possibilties are endless. Thanks must be given to Bandai Namco for taking a leap of faith on this intriguing new tech. I hope to see it put to more use by third party devs because damn would an Amiibo friendly RPG game be awesome or what? Tales Of Amiibo anyone? -30-

Mamoru Hosoda’s new film ‘The Boy and The Beast’ is brimming with charm

The Boy and The Beast is the latest film from acclaimed film director Mamoru Hosoda. Ahead of its premiere a trailer has launched online and boy oh boy is it brimming with that classic Hosoda charm. Hosoda is of course the famed director of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Summer Wars and the heartwarming Wolf Children. The film follows a young boy who stumbles upon a sword wielding bear and accepts an offer to become his apprentice, The Boy and The Beast chronicles his training as he lives between two worlds, Shibuya (Human World) and Jutengai (Monster World). You can check out the trailer below for a glimpse into Hosoda’s latest fantasy world in The Boy and The Beast. The film is set for release on July 11th, 2015. As a fan of Mamoru Hosoda and having been privileged enough to meet him and talk at length with him on all manner of subjects I have no doubt in my mind this is the must-watch anime film of 2015. Hosoda is a special mind …

The official countdown website for the upcoming 15th anniversary anime series Digimon Adventure Tri has revealed a key visual art featuring the complete cast of digidestined now clearly older yet still filled with that youthful spirit that embodied these characters during the shows original run 15 years ago. The character design work for the series is being handled by Atsuya Uki the man behind the sublime anime series Tsuritama. On top of that Keitaro Motonaga of Date A Live fame will be directing the series. No specific launch date has been set as of yet for Digimon Adventure Tri but this digimaniac hopes that it comes sooner rather than later. You can check out the key visual art showcasing the matured digidestined below. Anyone else feel a little bit of a chill on the nape of the neck? No, just me? -30-

“Final Fantasy X/X2 HD Remaster” Is Coming To The PlayStation 4 In 2015

And we’re very excited about it! The PlayStation Experience event took place over the weekend in Las Vegas and from it came a few awesome announcements of upcoming PlayStation titles set to be released in 2015. We already know that “Final Fantasy VII” is set to be hitting consoles in the coming year but today Square Enix has officially announced that another “FF” title will be joining the PlayStation 4 family and it just so happens to be the previously-released “Final Fantasy X/X2 HD Remaster”. Already available for both the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita, this upcoming PlayStation 4 version of the same game is said to come with some system-exclusive features that have yet to be detailed by Square Enix but my assumption is that, as usual, the audio and visuals are going to be a little more crisp. Apart from that, I have no idea what else we’re to expect from this re-re-release but I’m sure, in due time, Square Enix will give us a little more information. Like “Final Fantasy VII”, “Final Fantasy X/X2 …

Have You Met Killia? – “Disgaea 5” Character Introduction Video Released

Nippon Ichi Software have come out recently and said that the continued existence of the video game developer and publisher now relies solely on how well “Disgaea 5” does upon release. Though sad to see such a wonderful and much-loved company going through some hard times, I like to find fortune in the unfortunate and I think the fact that “Disgaea 5” is going to be their “Hail Mary” is going to work out so well for them. At least, I very much hope so. As a way of promoting the game that could mean life or death for the company and to raise hype for what I’ve quickly come to look at as the next best thing in tactical RPG gaming, Nippon Ichi Software have begun releasing character introduction videos with the first to get the spotlight obviously being the main protagonist of the game…Killia. If you don’t know who Killia is; he’s a young Demon Lord who’s out for revenge and will stop at nothing to exact it. Shirtless and fearless, this Dragonewt …

Pokemon the Movie XY 2015 Promises a Clash of the Primals and…Hoopa?

Welcome once again to the theatrical world of Pokemon and prepare to bear witness to yet another Legendary conflict. It’s no secret that Groudon and Kyogre have had their differences throughout the eons, having even accidentally created the world’s layout during their battles. Luckily for everyone else however, Rayquaza tends to turn up and put a lid on things. Well the Weather Trio is back once more and sporting their Primal and Mega forms in the teaser for the upcoming movie, still tentatively titled XY 2015. However, these primordial forces may find themselves facing yet another Legendary opponent this time around. Though pure speculation at this point, one might wonder if those portals are being created by someone. I guess you could call them hoops if you wanted to… Hoopa. I’m talking about Hoopa. One of the three secret Legendaries added in XY, that of course failed to remain secret for any period of time. Regardless, from those who understand how to enter the code of the Pokemon universe, it has been revealed that Hoopa …

Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja 4 Announced For The PlayStation 4

“Naruto” is done. Yes, that’s it. It is over forever and you’ll never see any more “Naruto” content. That’s just something you’ll have to deal with. Forever. No “Naruto” stuff. “Naruto” is dead and gone. No…it’s not. The franchise is still going strong and even though the Manga has now officially ended there’s still so much more of “Naruto” to come, making it a series that will truly never die. Not that people want it to. “The Last: Naruto The Movie” started showing in Japanese theatres last weekend and has met quite an awe-inspiring critical and financial reception. There’s still a Manga series to come regarding the next generation of Ninja from the series and, only announced today, there’s a brand-new game on the way but this time it’ll be getting a release on a “next gen” console…the PlayStation 4. So, as you can see, there’s no real lack of “Naruto” in the world right now. In fact, I think there’s probably so much more circulating now thanks to the Manga ending than there ever …

“Akiba’s Trip: Undead and Undressed” for the PlayStation Vita and the PlayStation 3 has already been released worldwide but NIS America just want you to know that you havn’t seen anything yet, not until you’ve laid eyes on the upcoming PlayStation 4 version of the stripping game many people the world over love so dearly. Yes, in case you havn’t heard; there IS a PlayStation 4 version of this game that comes loaded up with a whole bunch of gameplay extras as well as some fantastic graphics that just couldn’t be seen on the PS3 and PS Vita thanks to their inferior visual capabilities. That isn’t the case anymore though. The PlayStation 4 version is on the way and with it will come a whole new gameplay experience that NIS America boasts people who’ve already played the game will still enjoy. “Undead and Undressed” has already been released on the PlayStation 4 in both Japan and in North America with the next in line to get the game being Europe. NIS America announced today that the …

Persona Q: Shadow Of The Labyrinth – Review

For me, there’s no greater video game than a crossover video game. If you sit back and think about it, it’s basically a fan fiction story come to life. I cried when “Marvel VS Capcom 3” got released, “Street Fighter X Tekken” had me naked by the title screen and “Project X Zone” made me wet my pants. Yeah…I love crossover titles THAT MUCH. When I heard about “Persona Q: Shadow Of The Labyrinth” I was institutionalised for a period of three weeks but I managed to get myself out of the straight jacket and back at my work desk with enough time to research the characters of “Persona 3” just so I’d be able to enjoy the game a little more. Having only played “Persona 4 Golden” but absolutely loving it, I was very much excited for “Q” but still felt as though I needed to do my homework before jumping in “half prepared”. North America, those lucky bastards, got the game before us here in Australia and an influx of reviews flooded the net. …

“Under Night In-Birth EXE:Late” Is Making Its Way To Australia And New Zealand

Released in Japan last year and already announced for distribution in North America, “Under Night In-Birth EXE:Late” is a fairly unheard of fighting game developed by the same studio that brought you “Melty Blood”…another semi-unheard of Japanese fighting game. Though it dominates Japanese arcades, it doesn’t necessarily have much of a presence outside of the great country and that’s probably because it simply doesn’t get that much promotion in the West. Well that’s all about to change soon because today NIS America, who distributes the game across Europe, has announced that “Under NIght In-Birth EXE:Late” is heading down to Australia and New Zealand in 2015 and they want you all to get ready for one hell of a twisted fighting game! Since time immemorial, the organization known as the “Night Blade” has acted as guardians in what is known as the “Hollow Night”. While resting from her eternal labors in a non-descript town that the Princess of the Night Blade, Linne, meets a young boy named Hyde, who is in possession of the fabled sword …

Square Enix Announces “Theatrhythm Dragon Quest”

For every good video game, there’s an equally as enjoyable soundtrack. This is something I’ve believed for the entirety of my career as a critic and it’s not a mindset I’ll be dumping anytime soon. Any game that lacks good musical style is a game not worth playing in my opinion and I think it’s safe to say that Square Enix has this aspect of video game making mastered. “Final Fantasy” games almost always feature a booming orchestral sound that fits the “high fantasy” style of story that has been around for countless years but it’s not just “FF” that features the good stuff. Oh no! If you’ve played any game from the “Dragon Quest” series you’d understand that each and every Square Enix game is done to the highest calibre and that always includes a damn good soundtrack that fits like a surgical glove. While a little different from the tracks heard in “FF” games, “Dragon Quest” titles feature lovely songs that will now be compiled and made playable thanks to the upcoming Nintendo …

“Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2 – Record Breaker” Coming to The West Early 2015

We all know who ATLUS is don’t we? Yeah, they’re the Japanese video game publisher and developer famous for the “Shin Megami Tensei” series of dungeon crawlers and RPGs but lately it seems they’ve really only been focused on their “Persona” series of games what with the latest addition to the already extensive catalog “Persona Q: Shadow Of The Labyrinth” being released. Well, according to the PR e-mail we were sent, they want to make a little bit of a change and instead bring the world news of a different video game…”Devil Survivor”. More specifically; “Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2 – Record Breaker” (“Break Record” in Japan). It turns out this Nintendo 3DS remake will not only be getting a Japanese release but a Western release too! So far it has only been announced for North America but recent history has proven to me that whatever America gets, the rest of the Western world gets. It’s especially reassuring in this day and age where Japanese games are hitting local shelves around Europe and the …

One Piece Film: Z Review

Everybody has a dream. That specials something that they strive for with all of their heart. The self proclaimed goal of their life. But what happens when dreams clash? People are not alone in the world and as a result desires overlap, contradict in the most unwanted ways and threaten to cease. So what do you do when faced with such an antithesis? Do you spare yourself the pain and give in? Or do you throw all of your faith into your own strength, and fight to the bitter end? For as long as One Piece has existed, Marines and Pirates have opposed each other. The ultimate battle between unbridled freedom and respectful adherence to the law. But what of those that fall between these sides? How do those who do not believe wholeheartedly in either side act? Well, in Z’s case it’s violently…very, very violently. Driven to extremism through a series of traumatic events, Z stands as the self appointed head of the Neo Marines, a group with one simple goal: the eradication of all …

Countdown Begins for New Yu-Gi-Oh! Film Project

Yu-Gi-Oh!, an anime that showed a generation that card games are not limited to blackjack and poker…though considering kids were watching it they probably shouldn’t have known about those games anyway. 52 pick-up, that’s an innocent one. It showed people that card games are not limited to 52 pick-up. Anyway, it’s looking like some members of the original series are on their way back into our lives, with the announcement that a new film project is in the works. A teaser site has revealed a countdown set to end on December 14th (Pacific Standard Time). No word yet on what the project will actually detail, but we won’t have to wait too long until the truth is revealed. I’m excited. Are you excited? If you are, why not keep an eye on the countdown site? I know I will. I mean, I’ll do other things to, but I’ll still keep an eye on it. -30-

Kenka Bancho 6 Trailer Details Gameplay

Banchos. A tough, no nonsense force to be reckoned with. Usually identifiable by their gruff exterior, piercing gaze and cool longcoats. At least, that’s what anime has taught me. “Final Fantasy VII” Is Back And This Time It’s Coming To The PlayStation 4

I consider “Final Fantasy VII”, over all other “Final Fantasy” titles, to be the one that will never die. Every once in a while we get another addition to the ever-growing story of the game, or we get an offshoot of it in mobile gaming form, or we get a re-release of it with the last one being for the PC. Square Enix announced over the weekend that arguably the most loved numeric in the “Final Fantasy” family is getting another re-release but this time it will be heading to the PlayStation 4! As mentioned, a PC port of the game was released a while back that featured a few significant upgrades from the original release on the original PlayStation, well the PlayStation 4 version will upgraded once more to perform and look better than that of the PC version making it a whole level more superior than the original. Released alongside the announcement was a video of which we’ve provided below. Square Enix have marked “Final Fantasy VII” down for a Spring 2015 release …

Next Naruto Project To Begin In The August Of 2015

Let’s be honest, Japanese citizen or not you are very much aware that “The Last: Naruto The Movie” began its theatrical run in Japan over the weekend and, whether or not you’ve found a way to watch it, you’re immeasurably existed that somewhere in the world someone has. This is the calibre of the “Naruto” fandom; a mass of crazy fanatics with enough power to bring down OTHER fandoms. Thanks to Marvel films, the world has now been conditioned to stay until the very end of the credits to nab a sneak peak of the next project to come which makes me hate going to see movies with fellow SnapThirty writer Kane Bugeja because we could be seeing a re-release of the movie “Love Actually” and he’d make us wait all the way until the end to see if something happens…not that we’d be going to see it or anything. Well those who went to go see “The Last: Naruto The Movie” this weekend were delivered a little message after the film that stated the …

Sabo To Feature As Playable Character In Upcoming One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3

While I was always fairly excited to get my hands on the upcoming “One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3” game, I’ve never been more excited than I am right now thanks to this! Fans of the series, both Anime and Manga, will know that the hero of the story, Luffy, has two adoptive brothers; Ace and Sabo. Those not too invested in the series may know who Ace is because he’s in every single piece of “One Piece” media but they may not know who Sabo is. Those up do date with the story will know who this mysterious young man is and also just how damn awesome he can be…especially in a fight. Recently re-introduced into the main story as a man once thought dead, Sabo comes to the aid of his brothers, both dead and alive, as the Chief of the Revolutionary Army; a title he will wear well in the upcoming “Pirate Warriors” game seeing as he’s going to be in it as a playable character. As of right now, all we have …

Street Fighter V – Announcement and Gameplay Videos Released

Welcome to the world of “Street Fighter V”! Prepare for battle! Capcom has, over the weekend, confirmed a piece of leaked information regarding the next video game in the “Street Fighter” series and that is that this new game actually exists. As you can probably imagine, it’s called “Street Fighter V” and as a way to combat the leak Capcom has gone ahead and released an official announcement video as well as the very first piece of gameplay footage. The gameplay video, with no information regarding a release schedule apart from 2015, shows series mascot Ryu going up against femme fatale Chun-Li. At about a minute and a half long, this is a great trailer for the game especially seeing as, not that long ago, we didn’t even know it existed. The announcement trailer isa little less about the showing the new game and a lot more about the emotion behind a long-running franchise and the release of its newest title. That doesn’t make it any worse of a video though, in fact, I’m probably …

Rurouni Kenshin: The Legend Ends Review

The third and final chapter of the Rurouni Kenshin trilogy is aptly dubbed as The Legend Ends, picking up right where the cliffhanger finale of Kyoto Inferno left off. A fair spoiler warning to those who are about to read on, there will be references to the previous films so tread carefully. Kyoto Inferno ended with the frightening unveiling of Shishio Makoto’s ultimate weapon: a battleship equipped with modern warfare. Something that is completely alien to Japan. Shishio Makoto uses this powerful weapon to showcase the true extent of his terror, giving him the ultimate trump card against the crumbling Japanese government. What’s interesting is that this war machine was also introduced in the original anime series, except that Shishio never even got to use it because Sanouske somehow managed to sink the damn thing. Now in this movie adaptation the ship is put to great use as a compelling plot device. This is where The Legend Ends demonstrates a rare instance where taking liberties with the source material, and even executing ideas differently, can lead …

Vagabond (Vizbig Edition): Volume Three – Review

“If you wish to control others you must first control yourself”, an excerpt from Miyamoto Musashi’s “The Book Of Five Rings”. With every new volume of “Vagabond” comes another lesson about combat and about life, as well as a very happy Frank Inglese because recently “Vagabond” has quickly become one of my favorite Manga titles of all time. Based on the true-to-life story of Miyamoto Musashi, “Vagabond” follows the young warrior on his way to worldwide supremacy as history’s greatest master of the sword. From the battle of Sekigahara all the way up until his death, famed Mangaka Takehiko Inoue takes us on a visual journey through the blood-filled times of an ancient Japan and thanks to Madman Entertainment I’ve, once again, been given the chance to review the latest volume. Musashi suffers a humiliating defeat against Inshun, the second-generation master of Hozoin Temple. To prepare for a rematch, Musashi undertakes an intense spiritual and physical training regimen with a most unlikely teacher – Inshun’s predecessor, the founder of the Hozoin Spear Technique. To …

Set for a January 5th release on DVD and Blu-Ray, Dog & Scissors has had its English dub cast detailed by Sentai Filmworks. Kazuhito Harumi: Blake Shepard Natsuno Kirihime: Jessica Calvello Suzuna: Joanne Bonasso Toji: John Gremillion Maxi Akizuki: Brittney Karbowski Yayoi Honda: Monica Rial Afro Gomez: Chris Hutchison Sumitani: Julia Traber Genji, Fumio Honda: John Swasey Sarai, Hami: Luci Christian Sakura Honda: Nancy Novotny Sachi Moribe: Carli Mosier Madoka Harumi: Juliet Simmons Munakata, Daimon: David Wald Macho: Leraldo Anzadula Momiji Himehagi: Emily Neves Harumi Kazuhito could spend days at a time with his head buried in his beloved books, and little would make him happier than perusing the pages of his favourite author. Unfortunately, when Harumi gets himself killed he inexplicably finds himself reincarnated as a dog… which might not be so bad if he could read, or his new owner didn’t have the unfortunate twin predilections of playing with scissors and tormenting her new pet! But what truly makes this strange reincarnation the worst of all possible worlds is that she’s also his favourite …

Fan Begins Making “Pokemon” Game Specifically For Use With The Oculus Rift

This truly is the future, people. While not an official Nintendo production, that doesn’t make this little video any less exciting for “Pokemon” fans the world over. Youtuber and amateur video game maker misterbunbun has recently uploaded a new video onto his Youtube page which just so happens to showcase a little project of his that revolves around the creation of a “Pokemon” game that can be used with the Oculus Rift. This game, while not anywhere near close to completion, shows misterbunbun himself playing the game and using a Pikachu to battle and capture a Magnemite. Now  Nintendo doesn’t exactly like it when people do stuff like this so I’d take the chance to watch it as soon as possible before it may be taken down. I don’t know why you’d put it off though, it’s such an awesome concept and for something not officially developed by Nintendo themselves it is looking damn awesome. We’ve provided the video below so check it out and make sure to follow misterbunbun if his stuff is what …

“Etrian Mystery Dungeon” Is Coming To The West!

Maybe you’ve yet to hear, but there’s a new “Etrian Odyssey” game on the horizon for the Nintendo 3DS that is set to get a release in the Spring of 2015. This new game, titled “Etrian Mystery Dungeon”, is going to be a mix between both the “Etrian Odyssey” and “Mystery Dungeon” series of RPG-style video games…just in case the name didn’t quite give it away. This was recently announced for Japan but, in even more recent times, it has been announced for North America which means, like many other games, there’s a very high chance it will be making its way around the rest of the Western world. ATLUS announced this just today and with that they also released a bunch of screenshots from the English version of the game for us to all enjoy. If you’ve played any of the games from either of the series’ you may have a pretty good idea of what’s to be expected with this new title. Hell, if you’ve played games from BOTH of the series’ you …

Time Killers: Kazue Kato Short Story Collection – Review

You know, reader, I really like the Manga “Blue Exorcist”. Actually I moreso like the lady behind “Blue Exorcist”. A Mangaka named “Kazue Kato” who, like anyone in some sort of artistic spotlight, started on her career a very long time ago but only in the last decade or so gained mainstream success. This is the plight of all who want to do something creative for a living. Singers, musicians, artists, film makers, actors, each of these careers follows a long and arduous road that many never reach the end of. Kazue Kato has reached that end with her Manga “Blue Exorcist” but has decided it is about time she shows her fans exactly where it was she started and she’s doing it with one of Madman Entertainment’s more recent Manga releases; “Time Killers: Kazue Kato Short Story Collection”. Thanks to the Australian Anime and Manga distributor, we’ve been given the chance to experience the life of a Mangaka from her first concept all the way up until the one that eventually lead to her …

Terra Formars Volume Two – Review

For weeks now I’ve had a bad taste in my mouth thanks to the appalling Anime adaptation of a Manga I find myself very exciting to continue reading; “Terra Formars”. Riddled with censorship, the Anime has so far only worked to diminish what positive popularity the Manga had built. This hasn’t stopped me from wanting to continue the Manga, though. If anything, it has made me want to read the Manga even more with the hopes that it will explain more and show all the things the Anime refused to and thanks to our friends as Madman Entertainment I’ll be able to keep reading the Manga completely for free! Though…from what I’ve read so far, I would have no problems at all paying full price for every new release. Volume two marks the beginning of a whole new generation of characters and the third crew to be sent off to Mars. This time, though, they know what’s up there waiting for them and they’ve made some pretty serious preparations to avoid the slaughter that occurred …

‘Ghost in the Shell’ 25th Anniversary Edition Review

It has been a colossal 25 years since the world was first introduced to the cyberpunk future of Ghost in the Shell. Originally a manga series from Masamune Shirow, the series has spawned an entire franchise worth of related media including this unforgettable 1995 feature length classic simply titled Ghost in the Shell. With allusions to sci-fi masterpieces such as Blade Runner, it was no wonder that Ghost in the Shell became a hit in the West just as much as it was in Japan. What really makes Ghost in the Shell such an unforgettable experience however is what lies underneath, an exploration of the nature of identity and its inherent relation to belonging. With this remastered edition, Ghost in the Shell is brought back to life in gorgeous Blu-Ray format. So does it still hold up after all these years? Ghost in the Shell has always been touted as one of the most thought-provoking anime stories ever put to the silver screen and after watching through this film for what is likely my 5th …

Madman Comments On ‘Space Dandy’ Release Delays

Madman Entertainment’s release for Space Dandy Part 1 was originally slated for a release in October 2014, that was until it was unfortunately delayed until December 2014 due to circumstances beyond their control. Fans of the series with a keen eye have noticed that Madman’s official website now lists Space Dandy Part 1 for a February 2015 release, meaning the series is once again been delayed. We at SnapThirty reached out to Madman Entertainment for comment on the situation to try and get some clarity on what exactly has gone on with this highly anticipated release. Madman Publicity Manager, Ben Pollock replied with the following statement on the situation: I wish I could say it’s because he’s spending too much time on his hair – but it’s a simple matter of a delay in the materials we are sourcing for the release from the U.K. So there you have it. Bar any more unforeseen circumstances, Space Dandy Part 1 should be ready to warp into stores in February 2015. If anything changes however we will …

Pluto Volume 2 Review

Pluto continues to amaze with a fantastic second volume of manga following on from the shocking events of volume one. As the body count continues to rise, Gisecht turns to a familiar face for assistance in his investigation. The case grows more and more difficult as questions outweigh answers and Gisecht discovers that robot memory may not be infallible. It goes without saying that Urasawa is a brilliant mangaka, but having the incredible source material of ‘The World’s Strongest Robot’ arc from the original Astro Boy does go along way. The magic of Tezuka’s original translates incredibly well into Urasawa’s distinctive gritty style. What I find most compelling however is the way that Urasawa takes Tezuka’s work and gives it a new perspective. His look into this world where robots and humans must coexist is utterly tantalizing. This volume focuses in on the notion that what makes humans primarily different from robots is their ability to forget. What is most interesting about this idea is that Pluto immediately proceeds to break that idea down and …

SnapThirty Presents: A Chat with Kerrin O’Connor

In this short little bonus episode, Kane, Frank and Luke sit down with Bandai Namco Australia’s own Kerrin O’Connor (Product and PR Manager for Codemasters and Square Enix) to discuss games. More specifically, the guys try their best to learn a little more about the upcoming Final Fantasy Type-0 HD, whilst completely respecting the notion of secrecy, which they are able to do due to their highly professional nature and awesome humility. (Note: No jobs were harmed in the recording of this audio) -30-

A Look At…Final Fantasy Type-0 HD

A few days ago, we at SnapThirty were given the chance to visit the office of Bandai Namco Australia and take a look at the upcoming Final Fantasy Type-0 HD. Though not set to launch until March of 2015, we were also able to play a pre-release version of the game and get a feel for the next instalment of the FF franchise. Without getting too much into spoiler territory, the intro to Type-0 is quite the intense experience. Leaning heavily into the theme of war, the game presents a raw, emotional opening that isn’t all heroism and success. There really isn’t any majesty depicted in the world, with all of the magic and amazing technology being utilised for a violent purpose. As it is focused on a war between two powerful countries, the game does an excellent job of creating a propaganda feel to some cutscenes. Through a film reel grain filter and near emotionless narrator, the explanation of events past comes across with a historical air. This helps to set the mood of Type-0, and add information to …

Seraph of the End: Vampire Reign Volume 2 Review

Vampire slayer. It’s one of the oldest professions in the horror world. Those who take up the mantle of said profession are generally your rogueish types, those who have seen the violence spread by these fanged foes and learn the methods to end them. Now imagine if somebody decided to organise these hunters of the hunters of night. To create a trained group, a military if you will. Now bestow upon them weapons of immense power, add in a few high school students and you’ve got yourself one hell of an anti-vampire brigade. Did I mention the demons yet? Because there’s totally demons. Having proved himself against a rampant demon, Yu has officially earned his place in the Moon Demon Company, the best of the best. As did Yoichi, good for him. Of course, owing to Yu’s lone wolf philosophy on life, which he scarcely follows, he manages to immediately butt heads with fellow classmate Kimizuki. Actually, he manages to butt heads with him before he even gets to class. Impressive. Not wanting to waste …

Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods Review

Destruction, a depressing yet undeniable factor in the circle of life. Without the threat of an end, life would become stagnant, void of any sense of urgency. Or so we mortal beings rationalise. But were it your role in life to bring about said destruction, how would you behave? Would you relish in the carnage? Despise your lot in life? Or simply accept existence as it is? Regardless, end is an inevitability…but that doesn’t mean it isn’t fun to fight it. Especially if said fights involve punching and explosions. The Dragon Balls, inciters of adventure and the trump card of the Z Fighters throughout a number of battles. Seven orbs of tremendous power, capable of summoning forth the almighty dragon Shenron, one who possesses the power to grant one a single wish. As you might expect, gathering these legendary relics is far from easy, spread across the Earth, the Dragon Balls have alluded countless seekers, driving many to deception, crime and ins…wait…Bulma found them all again. Of course, she wouldn’t have done so without an important …

Final Fantasy Type-0 HD “The World at War” Trailer Released

With the launch of Type-0 still a ways away, Square Enix has released a trailer to bridge the gap between now and March. Dubbed “The World at War”, said trailer provides a glimpse at the chaos that threatens to tear Orience apart. A turbulent war of nations threatens to tear the land apart. Fuelled with propaganda, this show of power from the Militesi ruling incumbent, Marshal Cid, attempts to justify the Empire’s actions and discredit Class Zero, Rubrum and the other states. -30-

There’s a New Addition To The “Danganronpa” Franchise – We’re In For A Whole New World Of Despair

I woke up this morning thinking to myself; “how can this world get any sadder?”, that’s when I discovered that there’s going to be a new addition to the devilish “Danganronpa” series and it’s NOT going to be another game.  No, this time the world will be getting a serving of despair in the form of a novel written by the critically acclaimed Japanese writer Yuya Sato. Sorry to mislead you but my inner Monokuma forced me to. This was announced through the novelists Twitter where he stated that he has begun working on a novel that will extend the already huge “Danganronpa” universe. I’m not too sure who it was that actually hired Sato to begin writing but my assumption is that it is Monokuma himself who, as you may know, is the pinnacle of death, destruction and despair in the world right now…bar none. No details regarding the actual story of the novel have been released but I’m very much hoping that we’ll hear something about it very, very soon. My assumption? It’s …

Madman Entertainment, Australia’s leading Anime and Manga distributors, have just announced that they will be showing the upcoming Shonen Jump film “The Last: Naruto The Movie” in select cinemas across the great country in January of 2015 but they’re not quite done exciting “Naruto” fans. For more information on the exclusive screenings of “The Last: Naruto The Movie” check out this article which features everything detailed by Madman so far. Before jumping over to the other article though, first make sure you check out the trailer which we’ve provided for you just below. The moon is approaching dangerously close to Earth! Unless something is done, the moon will disintegrate, showering the earth with gigantic meteorites. …

Snow On The Blades – Review

“It is said the warrior’s is the twofold Way of pen and sword, and he should have a taste for both Ways.”, said Miyamoto Musashi in his novel “The Book Of Five Rings”. The legendary Samurai taught that a master of the sword shouldn’t only be a master of the sword. Instead he should strive to master the arts, poetry, philosophy, and anything else that can be used to advance him mentally as well as physically. A Samurai aren’t quite the ruthless killers we’re made to believe they are and if there’s any film that puts that across perfectly it’s “Snow On The Blades”. Featured as a part of the 2014 Japanese Film Festival lineup, spearheaded by the lovely people at The Japan Foundation, us here at SnapThirty have been given to review this new film and we couldn’t be more appreciative. There are many Samurai movies that have been shown at this film but none I’m more thankful to be given the chance to watch than this one. At Sakurada Gate in 1860, the …

Senran Kagura: Ninja Flash! – Series Collection Review

The Ninja have developed many powerful techniques throughout history. Some practical, others not so practical, but none as powerful as the art of…seduction. Combat can be sexy and there’s no people more prone to aesthetically pleasing battle than the Ninja which, if I’m doing this properly, means they’re the most beautiful people in existence. I never used to think this. In fact, I was more mentally sound until about two days ago when I started watching one of Madman Entertainment’s newest releases “Senran Kagura: Ninja Flash!”. Since watching, I’ve learned that the most important thing about shadow combat is how much skin you can show and, if I’m being entirely honest…it has really changed my world view. The “Senran Kagura” series of video games, for those of you who don’t know, revolves around a bunch of young, sexy, female Ninjas who battle and strip their way to Shinobi glory. The games, being so damn popular, have eventually lead to the production of this Anime which tells the story of the girl’s first big battle against …
