Steins;Gate Writer & Infinite Stratos Character Designer Set to Collaborate For Plastic Memories

Yep, you read it right, it would appear that Naotaka Hayashi (Steins;Gate) and Okiura (Infinite Stratos) are to work together on the upcoming series Plastic Memories, to be produced by Aniplex. Set in a future where robots have become a normal part of society, the series will follow one particular android who is not as reliable as their fellow machines. Though the term machine may or may not be offensive in regards to those presented in the series, what with it being a tale of love and all. A true sci-fi rom-com. So keep an eye out as more information comes to light. In the meantime enjoy some sketches and wonder what will happen when Steins;Gate storytelling meets Infinite Stratos visuals. via Otakomu -30-

The series follows Meliodas, the leader of the Seven Deadly Sins, a ragtag band of assassins who must help Princess Elizabeth reclaim her kingdom from the sinister Holy Knights who have taken control and oppress the masses. It is a traditional shonen adventure in every sense but with its unique medieval setting and straightforward approach, there …

Kenka Bancho 6: Soul & Blood – First Trailer And Story Info Released

Yosha! This is what I’ve been waiting for! Last week it was anounced that a brand-new ‘Kenka Bancho’ video game title by Spike Chunsoft is set to be released on the Nintendo 3DS sometime in the near future and fans of the series the world over threw up their bloody hands in an act of pure excitement. This week, today to be specific, Spike Chunsoft has officially opened up the website for the game and with this comes the games very first trailer as well as a story synopsis alongside some of it’s more interesting features. The trailer, though incredibly short, is good enough to get any true fans heart racing and features everything that made the series popular but with what looks to be a whole bunch more, including upgraded graphics and a new style of cell-shaded cutscene made to look like the pages of a Manga. There’s still been no word on a release date for Japan or otherwise, but Western fans are still hoping that we get lucky enough for the game …

‘Fairy Fencer F’ Review

Fairy Fence F is a JRPG from Compile Heart, the wildly popular Japanese developer who brought you games such as Record of Agarest War, Cross Edge and the iconic Puzzle Mate! It mixes the visual novel style with dungeon crawling RPG elements making what is a niche experience that some will love while leaving others feeling that this game has very little to offer. Despite the fact that this game is not for everyone, for those who are into this style of game prepare to devote an insane amount of hours of your life to the wonderful world of Fairy Fencer F. The game follows Fang, a fairly generic protagonist, rude and ridiculously straightforward but could be considered honest, he also tends to laze around and also has quite an insatiable appetite. Basically the badass character from nearly every anime ever. The story revolves around the aftermath of a conflict between two gods. The gods created special weapons known as furies and the only people who can wield the furies are fencers, the furies are said to be very …

Nekomonogatari White – Review (DVD/Blu-Ray Combo)

The interesting thing about cats is that they always land on their feet. I suppose heights don’t really bother them that much. It’s not like they can easily die of head trauma due to falling. Even better is that they’re also thought to have nine lives so if one of those times the cat doesn’t live up to its reputation and unfortunately is killed, at least they have another eight to enjoy before true demise. That’s great…when the cat is a simple family pet and not a supernatural presence brought about by extreme stress. To be completely honest; I’m more of a fan of dogs. Cats aren’t really my thing and I think I have an idea why: They’re conniving, they’re sneaky and they’re elusive. They also, according to ‘Nekomonogatari White’, make for some pretty dangerous apparitions. Come on. It‘s time to wake from this nightmare. Tsubasa Hanekawa’s curse has just morphed itself into a tiger. A great white beast, that seems to only bring misfortune to Tsubasa in its wake. It’s first victim? Her …

‘Space Dandy’ Final Thoughts – Staying Dandy, Baby

I expected Space Dandy to go out with a bang, but with its series finale it did more than that, it went out with a big bang – literally. Over the course of 26 fantastic episodes, broadcast over just under a year, we have gone on many adventures with Dandy and his faithful space crew in space. It was only fitting that Space Dandy saved its biggest and most ambitious adventure for last. After spending the entire series raising questions about whether all of this nonsense actually mean something, we finally get a definitive answer here from Space Dandy. Yes it does. In retrospect it is hard to have imagined where Space Dandy would journey as a show, but it has explored both philosophical and humorous territory over its run, but it has always been at its best when it manages to find common ground between the two like it does in this series finale. The finale revolves around the idea that the Gogol Empire has finally captured Dandy after spending the entire series playing Team …

First Thoughts: Terra Formars – The Good, The Bad And The Censored

I really, really, really hate insects. Like REALLY hate insects, I’m not sure you can fully understand just how much I despise the creepy crawlies. Apart from spiders, I’d have to say that cockroaches are the highest on my fear list so when a series like ‘Terra Formars’ is brought to my attention, I cannot help but look forward to seeing some gruesome bug-killing action. Now over here in Australia only the very first volume of the Manga has been released (Click Here to read my review of it) so it’s exciting for us to see an Anime series adaptation so ‘early’ in the piece. Obviously Japan has known about ‘Terra Formars’ for quite some time but it’s new to us and it’s very exciting to see on the big screen…that is, if you have a big screen to watch it on. Streaming on Crunchyroll across the globe, the first episode was released on the 26th of September and is arguably one of the more anticiapted Anime series’ to feature in the Fall lineup. Two …

‘Seraph of the End’ Anime Announced, ‘Attack on Titan’ Studio Handling Production

Fans of the popular shonen vampire manga Seraph of the End have reason to be excited with the announcement of an anime adaptation of the series coming through. To make matters even more interesting is that fact that the anime is to be handled by none other than WIT Studio of Attack On Titan fame. Seraph of the End follows Yuichiro and his friends who live in a dark underground city inhabited by vampires. Yuichiro must fight against the vampiric forces to stop the vampire uprising that will surely enslave and ultimately destroy humanity as we know it. Viz Media releases the manga series in the West. Stay tuned for more information on this upcoming anime series as it comes to light. -30-

Bakemonogatari – Box Set Review (Blu-Ray)

Not everything is how it seems. I now realize that as an open-minded twenty year old: Life isn’t just what you can see. There are layers upon layers of human thought that can be sifted through and explored in and of yourself that, as a young man, I refused to do. I instead took everything at face value and, in all honesty; it was a boring way to live. I now like to imagine that all things are possible, both the physical and metaphysical. Why believe in one deity when you can believe in them all? Why only try to understand one system of belief when you can try to understand many? Ghosts are real. Aliens are real. Monsters are real. Creatures are real. I cannot prove this and, to be blunt, I’m not even sure I entirely believe this BUT wouldn’t it be awesome if I was right? That’s why we watch things like Anime, because it is leagues more exciting than real life and it’s series’ like ‘Bakemonogatari’ that perfectly blend the natural …

Yakuza 0 – Money, Women, Power Trailer

It’s not quite a quote from Al Pacino’s ‘Scarface’ but it’s close enough for me to draw a connection. Sega have today updated the official ‘Yakuza 0’ website to now feature a brand-new trailer that will take audiences on a wild seven minute ride through what is looking to be one of the greatest brawler titles of the new generation. The trailer titled ‘Money, Women, Power’ will show you, well…money, women and power. ‘Yakuza 0’ tells the story of a young Kazuma Kiryu as well as a just-as-young Majima Goro, both of which we’ve seen countless times throughout the series. The game, which is set for an exclusive Sony release (PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4), takes place in 1988 and will tell the story of how these two young men came to be. This new trailer takes viewers through each of the most important aspects of the new games and showcases some of the updated gameplay mechanics as well as just how damn good the graphics are looking. Unfortunately it is in full Japanese with …

Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth – Sexy Lady Detective Character Revealed

Flowing blonde hair, open shirt, short shorts, high heels and one tough looking muscle car. I think I’ve found my dream girl, reader. The latest issue of Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump has introduced Japanese readers to a brand-new character who’s set to star alongside the protagonist of Bandai Namco’s upcoming PlayStation Vita title ‘Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth’. This ‘beautiful detective’, as she’s called, goes by the name Kyoko Kuremi but you can call her Miss Kuremi. This newly revealed character is an ace detective and you’ll be seeing her a great deal throughout the game as she will be giving you, the ‘Cyber Sleuth’, all of your investigative missions. She, like you, has heard about the recent incidents involving young men and women traveling to the ‘digital world’. It’s piqued her interest and she now wants to figure it out as best she can…that’s where you come in. Not much more is said about this glamor but she’s interesting enough to have caught the attention of many ‘Digimon’ fans around the world. We can’t wait …

Persona Q – Shinjiro Aragaki and Yukiko Amagi Character Trailers Released

Both dressed in red; one’s a stone cold beast and the other is a bodacious babe. Isn’t it obvious who I’m referring to? It’s Shinjiro Aragaki from ‘Persona 3’ and Yukiko Amagi from ‘Persona 4’. They’re just two of the many stars of the upcoming ‘Persona’ Nintendo 3DS title ‘Shadow Of The Labyrinth’ and ATLUS thinks it’s about time they get their chance to shine bright with their very own character trailers. Aragaki and his Persona pal Castor are head-to-head brawlers. They take no back seat to the action and are always willing to act as any team’s vanguard duo whereas Miss Amagi and her Persona Konohana Sakuya prefer to take a stand somewhere in the rear guard, using magic to back up their teammates. Both characters will be able to work together brilliantly with one backing up the other as they mow down the enemies that stand before them. Don’t take my word for it though because, who knows, I could be wrong. What you should do is check out the two character trailers …

“Tales of the World: Reve Unitia” Brings Heroes Of Series Past Together In Epic Cross-dimensional “thingy”

A trailer for the upcoming Tales Of series installment, Tales of the World: Reve Unitia has made its way online thanks to Bandai Namco of Japan and boy oh boy does it looks fantastic. Tales of the World: Reve Unitia looks to bring all the legendary heroes of the storied series’ past together in one epic game. How do they all wind up in the same world you ask? Details are a little vague on that front so lets just says dimensions did it. The trailer for the game is a cornucopia of nostalgic delight for fans of the series as it rolls through the figurative hall of fame of Tales Of heroes. Interesting to note is the game’s combat style which seems to be replacing the action RPG system of old with a strategy RPG system not unlike that seen in Fire Emblem. Check it out in the trailer below to see for yourself. Tales of the World: Reve Unitia hits the Nintendo 3DS in Japan on the 23rd of October, 2014. Stay tuned …

One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 – Tokyo Game Show Trailer Posted Online

Bandai Namco Games alongside Tecmo Koei Games have today released the first trailer for the upcoming ‘One Piece’ video game title ‘Pirate Warriors 3’. Announced about a week ago, the next in the ‘Pirate Warriors’ line of games goes all the way back to the beginning of the ‘One Piece’ series and looks as though it will cover the entire story from the first arc all the way up until the most recent. Bandai Namco Games, at this year’s Tokyo Game Show, showed this trailer to a lucky crowd of people who were fortunate enough to get a spot at their expo panel. Well now, after a week, the video game distributor have released the first trailer online in full HD for everyone not at TGS 2014 to enjoy and we’ve provided it for you below. ‘One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3’ will be the first game from the series to get a release on all current Sony consoles – the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita – and you can expect to see it …

Devil Survivor 2: The Animation – Complete Collection Review

Three kids, a God, and a plan for universal domination. This is ‘Devil Survivor 2: The Animation’. Many of you out there are probably thinking that you’ve heard this name before, well you have because it was originally a game for the Nintendo DS which, funnily enough, has just been announced to be a getting a remake for the Nintendo 3DS sometime next year. I suppose Hanabee, the Australian Anime distributors, knew something we didn’t as it is only now that this series is getting a release ‘down under’. Originally released over a year ago in Japan and streamed for the West thanks to Crunchyroll, it was an interesting experience being able to watch this series again in full English audio and without having to wait week by week. Before even putting the disc in I took a moment to think about what I was getting into: Does it still hold up after a year of animation progression and newer series’? Will I be able to appreciate the English voice acting when I’ve already heard …

Spike Chunsoft Announces New “Kenka Bancho” Game

Here’s the deal: If you’re a constant reader of the site than you’d know how big a fan of the video game series ‘Kenka Bancho’ I am. The first and only time the West was able to legally get their hands on a video game from this series was all the way back in 2009 with the release of ‘Kenka Bancho: Badass Rumble’ on the PlayStation Portable thanks to the wonderful people over at ATLUS. Ever since then there’s been a hole in my heart than can only be filled by experiencing the punky action of juvenile Japanese delinquents going head-to-head in fist fights. About a month ago, in the last ‘Nintendo Direct’ video presentation, a new game was teased that had fans of the series the world over scream out in hopes that what they were seeing was a new ‘Kenka Bancho’ title, well thanks to the latest issue of Famitsu online publication it has finally been confirmed. The game is called ‘Kenka Bancho 6: Soul & Blood’ and it is going to be …

Crunchyroll Picks Up Streaming Rights For “Terra Formars” Anime

Arguably one of the most anticipated Anime series’ of the Fall season, ‘Terra Formars’ has just been picked up by online Anime distributor Crunchyroll. The series, based on Yu Sasuga and Kenichi Tachibana’s Manga series of the same name, follows a crew of ‘astronauts’ who have been sent to Mars on an extermination mission of which they may not return. Two OVA episodes have already aired in Japan and serve as somewhat of a prequel to the Anime. What was shown in the two episode arc was that of what happened in the first Manga volume so my suggestion is that you pick it up and give it a read through before you head to Crunchyroll to watch the series. No actual episode count has been released as of yet so when it comes to that we’re pretty much in the dark. My hopes: The series goes on for as long as it possibly can. I reviewed the first volume of the Manga (Click Here to read) and immediately fell in love with the series …

Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call – Review

Music really does make a video game. There are some titles out there that are absolutely brilliant: They’re exciting, they’re engaging, they’re simply fun to play BUT they’re also missing something fatal…music. A good soundtrack could turn an ‘OK’ game into a ‘great’ game but I feel as though it is a video game aspect that is sometimes overlooked. I’ve seen plenty of games fail due to a boring or badly composed soundtrack but one series that doesn’t fall victim to this is ‘Final Fantasy’. Back in 2012 we saw the first culmination of the great series’ music. It came in the form of a spin-off title called ‘Theatrhythm Final Fantasy’. Playing like a typical rhythm game, ‘Theatrhythm Final Fantasy’ featured an abundance of songs from many of the different ‘Final Fantasy’ games and also played host to odd but interesting gameplay mechanic that made it feel more like an RPG. Well the game did very well and Square Enix decided that maybe they should go ahead and develop another one. This game is called …

Siren Visual license RahXephon and Nadia: Secret of Blue Water

Through their official Facebook page, Siren Visual have confirmed the acquisition of two anime classics, RahXephon and Nadia: Secret of Blue Water. RahXephon, a series which has been out of print for quite some time will be getting a brand new release from Siren Visual with the complete series being collectively released across 7 DVDs in January 2015. The series focuses on the conflict between humanity and an alien race known as Mu. RahXephon is touted as a mecha anime epic and a must watch for fans of the legendary Studio BONES. Nadia: Secret of Blue Water is one of most critically acclaimed anime series of all time to never see the light of day on Australian shores, until now that is. The series comes from the famed anime director Hideaki Anno and was in fact one of his earliest anime works, even preceding his biggest hit Neon Genesis Evangelion. Nadia is inspired by the novel 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne and was animated the good old fashioned way by GAINAX way back …

Original Characters Set to Appear in Dragon Ball Xenoverse

Having already revealed that players can personally add to the world of Dragon Ball via Xenoverse’s Avatar system, Bandai Namco has showcased yet another divergence from the character norm. That is to say that a few brand new faces are about to join the roster. Mira, Towa, TokiToki and the Supreme Kai of Time. Mira, the artificial creature trying to be the strongest creature in the universe, and Towa, a dark scientist coming from a demonic world, seem to be up to no good… They are currently planning to change the Dragon Ball universe as we know it. Just like the evil magician Babidi in the past, they are trying to gather as much “Kiri” as possible. For what purpose…? Only Supreme of Kai Time knows. After discovering their plans, Trunks was looking for someone worthy enough to take on those new foes and stumbled upon YOU, the player. The Supreme Kai of Time looks like a child but is far from being this young… Indeed, 75 000 000 years ago, this deity showed up for the first …

Fullmetal Alchemist (3-in-1) Volume 2 Review

Life is a journey. An ever stretching path that leads into uncertainty. For most who walk this path, there are a few surprises, some unexpected turns that serve to remind them of existence’s inherent unpredictability. And then there are the others. Those who deign to set a waypoint in the mystery, a goal to strive for, regardless of the road that rises to meet them. Though noble in its conception, there are instances where such desire leads to the road better not travelled, a way of mistakes, a way of pain. But whether or not one walks a path of light or darkness, or even refuses to walk at all, there remains one irrefutable fact: there is no turning back. As their quest threw them into a world of secrets and subterfuge, the brothers Elric discovered the truth that had eluded them for so long…along with the horrifying details of its origin. Torn between their innocent desire, born from their hubris, the brothers found themselves pitted against enemies who tested both their minds and bodies. …

My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU Review

Hell is other people. The source is My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU, a misanthropic corrupted romantic comedy. Don’t let the silly name fool you, My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU is far from the usual drivel that has become commonplace to the genre. In fact it is actually a deadset deconstruction of the entire genre itself thrown through a wood chipper and seen through a cynic’s critical gaze. It’s a tough pill to swallow but My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU tackles the less than lighthearted dark side of high school life with a sense of vitriol glazed in hopefulness. The series follows Hachiman Hikigaya a self confessed misanthrope who hates just about everything for no good reason other than his belief that everything hates him back just as much. He has no friends and doesn’t care to make any. His past attempts at love and friendship have all crashed and burned leaving him humiliated and more and more reclusive each and every time. On the opposite side of the spectrum is Yukino Yukinoshita, the prettiest girl in …

Bravely Second – Meet The Three Musketeers

Seeing as how well Square Enix’s ‘Bravely Default’ Nintendo 3DS video game sold, it’s no surprise that a new one had already already announced to be in development only a few months after initial release. With new games, obviously, comes new stories and the tale that is prepped to be told in the upcoming sequel ‘Bravely Second’ is one that centers around three skilled warriors who call themselves the ‘Three Musketeers’. Yuu, Jean and Nikolai will occpy most of your team in ‘Bravely Second’ and will be utilizing their combat training to help you cut down every enemy that stands in your way. Square Enix have today released a new Japanese trailer for the game that introduces you to these three men. Though entirely in Japanese, I’m sure you’ll all somewhat understand what it is that’s being said. It helps that information regarding these characters have been floating around on the web for a while now. Japan will be getting ‘Bravely Second’ sometime this Winter and us in the West will hopefully be getting it …

Vagabond (Vizbig Edition): Volume Two – Review

“An emotion induced by a threat perceived by living entities, which causes a change in brain and organ function, and ultimately a change in behavior…”, is the official definition of fear. It’s a feeling that exists within all of us. The strong and the weak both find themselves afflicted by its crippling grip. It’s an invisible force that can turn the most confident of people into the most meek and if volume two of Madman Entertainment’s ‘Vagabond (Vizbig Edition)’ taught me anything, it’s that nothing can stop it. ‘Vagabond’ is a Manga series written and illustrated by famed Mangaka Takehiko Inoue who’s most famous for his Shonen sports series ‘Slam Dunk’. Based off of the novel ‘Musashi’, ‘Vagabond’ tells the story of real life figure Miyamoto Musashi; the worlds most well-known and masterful samurai. Volume two continues Miyamoto’s journey through Japan. Already storming his very first samurai school but making it out barely alive, he decides to continue on path of the blade thanks to his ignorant and stubborn nature. Heading to Nara, he intends …

Cosplayer Shot Dead by US Police

Tragic news has just come through with SBS reporting that an innocent cosplayer has been shot dead in cold blood at shopping mall in Saratoga Springs, Utah. Equally shocking is the fact that the men who pulled the trigger were Saratoga Springs police officers. At the time of his death, the cosplayer, Darrien Hunt, a young man aged only 22, was cosplaying as a sword-wielding anime character, apparently from the popular anime and manga series Bleach. Police retain that shots were fired when Hunt apparently lunged at them with a sword, despite the fact that autopsy reports pertain that Hunt was shot a total of 6 times in the back, dying instantly. On top of that, the sword in question was merely a plastic replica. All of which brings into question the motives of the police officers for this cold blooded fatal act on an innocent man. The Hunt family’s lawyer Randall Edwards commented on the incident stating, “I just can’t believe that this kid in the costume was somehow posing such a threat to the officers …

Gangsta Volume Three – Review

History is such a huge factor in the growth of a relationship, platonic or otherwise. There are some things within ones past that simply cannot be overlooked and, as humans, these are things we will never forget. This is just the way we are. We use what has happened in the past to define how we will grow into the future. Sometime for the better but other times for the worst. ‘Gangsta’, for those of you not in the know, is a new Manga series that follows the story of two men living in a town entirely occupied by killers, thieves, con men and criminals of all different types. Ergastulum, the city, is teeming with these ‘bad eggs’. What makes this place even worse is that some of its citizens happen to be the remnants of a civil war wherein which humans were turned into super soldier-type beings through the implementation of drugs. These are known as ‘Twilights’ or ‘Tags’. Worick, a gigolo and human memory card, has known his partner Nic, a deaf samurai …

Persona Q – Chie Satonaka and Akihiko Sanada Character Trailers Released

What’s more exciting than one protein junkie? How about TWO protein junkies?! It’s a beautiful morning in Sydney Australia and I’ve woken up, much like many others, to a new pair of ‘Persona Q: Shadow Of The Labyrinth’ character spotlight trailers courtesy of ATLUS themselves. I tell you, there’s no better way to start the day. Both ‘Persona 3’ and ‘Persona 4’ feature a character type that are focused on one thing and one thing only; one of them happens to be a freak for meat and the other surely spends most of his free time at the gym. I think you all know who I’m talking about…it’s Chie Satonaka of ‘Persona 4’ and Akihiko Sanada of ‘Persona 3’! One is a world renowned ‘kick chick’ and the other could definitely give Rocky a run for his money and they’ve both come together today to share the spotlight in their very own character trailers. ‘Persona Q: Shadow Of The Labyrinth’ isn’t too far away from being released but that doesn’t matter to ATLUS, they’ll keep …

Persona Q – Yosuke and Mitsuru Character Trailers Released

We all know the drill by now right? ATLUS, the Japanese video game developer and publisher, have a huge audience and they’re not the types to leave their fans wanting more for too long. That’s why almost every single week they release something new regarding their upcoming video game releases. While most publishers do this, none do it as frequently as ATLUS and I think it’s safe to say that’s why we love them. Well ‘Persona Q: Shadow Of The Labyrinth’ – the ‘Persona 3/Persona 4’ crossover title for the Nintendo 3DS – is only just around the corner and ATLUS have today released two new English trailers spotlighting just two of the many characters to take center stage in the upcoming RPG. Yosuke Hanamura and Mitsuru Kirijo have returned for this new game and they’re looking cuter than ever! Along with the return of the characters themselves comes the return of their voice actors and actresses, of which you’ll be able to hear in the do of trailers we’ve provided for you below. ‘Persona …

Sega have gone and done the world of video games another huge solid today by releasing two brand-new trailers for their upcoming prequel title ‘Yakuza 0’, the first ‘Yakuza’ game to explain the origins of two of the series’ most pivotal characters; Kazuma Kiryu and Majima Goro. ‘Yakuza 0’ is set in 1988 and will tell the story of how these two young men came to be. It will take place in the well-known city of Kamurocho as well as Soutenbori, both of which are known for their high rate of Yakuza activity. Alongside the release of the two trailers – one titled ‘Introduction’ and the other titled’ Story’ – Sega also discussed the power of money in the latest addition of the highly popular series. It has been said that currency will be just as crucial as combat and that players must make some thoughtful decisions on how they will be using their in-game cash. Be it property investments or helping to run your very own business, money is most certainly power in ‘Yakuza …

Horizon In The Middle Of Nowhere Series Collection – Review

War is a reality. It’s something we as humans have come to somewhat understand, and we know that it isn’t good. It spreads death and sadness, and benefits no party. The unfortunate truth is that there will always be war and the cast of ‘Horizon In The Middle of Nowhere’ know this all too well. The inhabitants of Earth were once able to soar high up into the heavens and across the galaxy, but one fated day this ability was taken from them and they were cast back down, forever locked to the confines of the planet’s gravitational reach. Ages later, the remaining Earth countries take place in a perpetual war that rages from land to land with death tolls that are constantly on the rise. To say ‘Horizon In The Middle of Nowhere’ follows only one main character would be an error on my part. Something odd but ultimately interesting about the Anime is that – despite the front cover only featuring the two ‘supposed’ leads – it actually gives most of the characters …

The Severing Crime Edge Series Collection Review

Throughout history, there have been those whose actions allow them to exist far beyond their lifespan. Records, memories, stories, any number of medium detailing how one person managed to leave a mark on the world. Though not all are remembered in a positive light, having left their mark on the world in blood. Though, despite the horror of these past figures, solace can be taken in the fact that they are long passed. I mean, it’s not like there’s a collection of cursed weapons infused with their souls, ready to infect their descendants with a murderous rage… Oh wait, there totally is. But we’ll get to that in a bit, first let’s meet some characters. Namely Kiri Haimura and Iwai Mushanokoji. So Kiri, he’s a highschool student who…ummm…really likes hair and the act of cutting hair. Yes, in that way. So when he hears a story about a ghost possessing tremendously long, silky hair, he has no choice but to check it out. Of course there’s no such thing as ghosts (that’d be silly), instead Kiri …

Upcoming ‘Hajime No Ippo’ Game Gets Its First Batch Of Screenshots

Gloves up, fighters! As the referee for this bout I want as clean a fight as possible. No tricks, no cheap shots and no combat delay due to introspective thoughts of your past, you hear me?! I suppose that’s a hard rule to place an a ‘Hajime No Ippo-style’ boxing match, not one goes by without some sort of reflection on ones self. About a week ago, Bandai Namco Games announced that they will be releasing a brand-new ‘Hajime No Ippo’ video game for the PlayStation 3, a fighting title based closely off of the Anime and Manga series by the same name. Before today we had seen nothing of this game, bar a short teaser trailer that showcased the motion comic style of storytelling that is to feature. Bandai Namco Games today, however, have released a huge batch of images from the upcoming game which include both screenshots and art assets like character models and their hand-drawn designs. The new ‘Hajime No Ippo’ game is set for a release in Japan on the 11th …

Many people have thought about how popular Shonen Jump pirate manga One Piece could possibly end and until now the only man who know the answer to that has been the creator himself Eiichiro Oda. Now we can say that another person knows the ending to the shonen epic, that person is none other than young Hinati Fujinami, a life-long One Piece fan who is sadly suffering from terminal lung cancer. JapNation AniManga is reporting that Fujinami was a part of the Make-A-Wish program and had only one wish, that being to know how his favourite manga will end. In an amazing act of kindness, Eiichiro Oda was more than happy to oblige and met with Fujinami in his hospital room to grant his wish. Oda reportedly struggled to hold back his tears upon seeing the condition of the young child, but in a private one on one chat, revealed the rest of the manga and its ultimate ending to the young boy. Following their chat, Fujinami was said to be smiling and crying at …

The Tales Of series has been around for quite some time, roughly 20 years in fact. The series has taken fans on many fantastic adventures to different worlds meeting unforgettable characters along the way and now we reach the latest installment in the series Tales of Zestiria. Tales of Zestiria is heading to the PS3 and looks to bring the series back to its roots with a more fantasy style setting rather than the cyberpunk-esque world of the Tales of Xillia games. The Japanese TV Commercial for Tales of Zestiria has begun airing on screens across Japan and can be seen below. Could Tales of Zestiria mark a rennaisance of sorts for the Tales Of series? I for one, hope so. -30-

Yu Yu Hakusho Manga Getting a Reprint?

Seeing as the Hunter x Hunter anime is coming to an end and the manga going on another hiatus until god knows when, Viz Media has decided to give fans a Yoshihiro Togashi fix and will be reprinting Togashi’s Shonen Jump hit Yu Yu Hakusho. Yu Yu Hakusho tells the tale of Yusuke Urameshi, a high school delinquent, who is hit by a truck trying to save the life of a child. World Trigger Anime Trailer Crash Lands

Shonen Jump manga series World Trigger is far from the first series one would guess to get an anime adaptation considering the fact that it is relatively unpopular in Japan and only has a small following in the West despite it’s regular serialization in the Shonen Jump app. World Trigger revolves around a world under invasion from other-dimensional alien monsters called ‘Neighbours’. Some say this has the makings of the next Attack on Titan, but whether that turns out to be the case is anyone’s guess at this point. Check out the trailer below for a gander at what is on offer in this wild shonen action anime. Could this be the sleeper hit of Fall 2014? I say that it is too soon to say boys and girls, but it doesn’t mean I won’t hype it up anyways. It’s World Trigger yall! -30-

Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution – Review

The world is never and will never be short of ‘Naruto’ fighting games. This is a truth all Anime and Manga fans have come to understand, and most of them are more than grateful. Every two years or so the good people over at Bandai Namco Games in conjunction with video game developer CyberConnect2 create and distribute a brand-new ‘Naruto’ fighting title. Each new game brings about new characters, upgraded battle mechanics and improved graphics BUT every single time a new one is released reviews say mostly the same thing; it’s not that different from the last game. This almost seems like a curse for the franchise seeing as it has been this way for years but does the latest addition, ‘Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution’, throw off the balance and break the hex of perpetual monotony? It’s quite possible. Unlike it’s predecessors, ‘Revolution’ does not fall victim to the habit of Anime-based video games simply retelling the story of the series. It is good thing to implement when it is the first or …

Super Smash Bros. For 3DS and Wii U – Let’s Check Out The Full Roster

Today started off really well, reader. I woke up, I had myself a coffee and some toast, I started answering e-mails and then I remembered that Japan will be getting the new ‘Super Smash Bros.’ game for the 3DS on Saturday…yeah, what a way to wreck what would have been a nice morning. Don’t get me wrong; I love Japan and the Japanese people, my gripe comes from the deep and violent jealousy I feel because they’ll be getting the new ‘Smash Bros.’ a month before everyone else. I thought I was a grown up and I could wait for things like video games but it turns out when it comes to titles like this…I want to be the first to have it. Putting my petty  envy aside, the real point of this article is to detail the leaked character roster image which has come straight from an unknown Japanese gamer who has managed to get themselves an early copy of the game. Not only that, they have also already finished the game and unlocked …

It’s that time of year! An exciting time of year where we, the general public, finally become privy to the film list that will feature at this year’s ‘Japanese Film Festival’ held by none other than Australia’s own ‘Japan Foundation’. In past years this film festival has proven to simply be one of the very best and is actually the biggest Japanese film festival outside of the great country itself. That’s quite a description for something homegrown like this and the people behind the scenes could not be more proud. This year’s ‘JFF’ will kick off in Adelaide on the 10th of October with the musical comedy ‘Lady Maiko’ which tells the tale of a young  girl with big dreams of one day becoming a Geisha. Though she’s from the countryside and doesn’t quite posses the proper finesse of a Geisha, she has a great chance at fulfilling her dream thanks to one Professor Kyono, a linguistics specialist and her only way of becoming a proper lady. The festival will run all the way up …

Taking time away from the busy schedule that is to be expected of an anime heavyweight, Bones co-founder Toshihiro Kawamoto held a panel at SMASH! 2014 to answer a few of the questions that fans wish to know. Harking back to his humble beginnings, Kawamoto began the panel by answering a fan question regarding how he began his career in the anime industry. He expressed that he has always possesses an interest in drawing, a simple fact that provided him with a respect of those who forge a career in the artistic field. More specifically, Kawamoto cited Yoshikazu Yasuhiko, the character designer of Mobile Suit Gundam, and Macross as early sources of inspiration. See anime fans, even the biggest names have to start somewhere, it’s as grounding as it is interesting honestly. Leading on from Gundam, Kawamoto briefly explained just how he, along with some close friends, broke away from their respective companies in order to start what would become one of the most successful studios in the anime industry. Whilst working on Cowboy Bebop, …

Ghostlight To Bring Way of the Samurai 4 to Steam

Who here likes samurai? Well if you answered in the positive, have I got some news for you (though even if you answered negative I still have news for you, you just won’t enjoy it as much). Regardless, Ghostlight has revealed that they will be bringing Way of the Samurai 4 to PC (via Steam) later this year. Having won the Famitsu Gold Award, not to mention the prodigious sales of the Way of the Samurai franchise, Ghostlight have expressed their delight in being able to bring this title to PC, a platform the series has yet to explore. Though the previous titles have seen PSP, PS3 and Xbox 360 releases, Way of the Samurai 4 is the first to break this pattern, in no small part due to the work of Acquire and Spike Chunsoft, along with Ghostlight and Laughing Jackal (the team that will be handling the port). THE FOURTH ENTRY OF THIS THRILLING SERIES is set in the mid 19th century, as Japan has begun to open its borders to the Western world.   …

Kotono Mitsuishi Panel at SMASH! 2014

The name Kotono Mitsuishi is one that at first may not ring a bell to everyone, but it is her distinct voice that has captured the hearts of a generation of anime fans across the globe. Having portrayed countless roles in classic anime series, Kotono Mitsuishi is a veteran voice actress in Japan, with credits including series such as Sailor Moon, Evangelion and even Gundam Seed. At SMASH! 2014, Kotono Mitsuishi graced Australian anime fans with her presence, taking to the stage for a special panel hosted by MC Morris. Mitsuishi even wowed fans in the audience with her voice acting talent by performing a few live dubs. However the major bulk of her panel appearance was a question and answer session with MC Morris. Throughout the panel, MC Morris would introduce Mitsuishi to a number of Aussie items, which garnered a few good laughs from the audience. Especially when she teased beating Morris up with a boomerang if he did not stop his line of questioning. It made for a humorous little bit of …

Disgaea 4: A Promise Revisited – Review

A man only has two things in this world: His word and his balls. Any good man wouldn’t break either for anybody. That’s a lesson that I was originally taught by Al Pacino in his role as Tony Montana from the hit 80s film ‘Scarface’. Now, at the ripe old age of twenty, I’ve been given the chance to play the PlayStation Vita port ‘Disgaea 4: A Promise Revisited’, a game that features a main character who just so happens to feel the same way as the Colombian drug lord himself. While Valvatorez the vampire doesn’t deal with narcotics, he was once called a tyrant…that was, until he made a promise to a young girl named Artina to never drink the blood of a human again. Being a demon doesn’t mean he has no morals. Valvatorez agreed and never again touched the sweet blood of a human being, teaching us that a promise is never to be broken. ‘Disgaea 4’ was originally released on the PlayStation 3 back in 2011 under the title ‘A Promise …

Digimon Adventure Anime Sequel – New Teaser Image Revealed

The official website for the upcoming Digimon Adventure Anime sequel was only just updated and it now features a new teaser image/message that is, in short; so very heart-warming. Heading over to the site, you’ll be confronted by a furry little guy called Botamon who happens to be the baby form of the franchise mascot Agumon. Clicking on the egg which appears on the site, will have Botamon hatch. After it hatches you can interact with it by petting the cutie. After it has had its fill, it will offer you another clickable icon which, when clicked, will open up another browser window that just so happens to feature the image you can see above. Appearing in both Japanese and/or English, this little message to the Digimon fans basically outlines the start of a 17 year old Tai’s morning of which I assume we’ll be seeing once the first episode of the Anime airs. Though short, it’s written beautifully and really gets the heart pumping. When there’s hype to be built, this seems like the …

Bandai Namco Games Announce Captain Earth: Mind Labyrinth PlayStation Vita Game

Captain Earth, for those of you who aren’t ‘in the know’, is an Anime series that is currently airing in Japan. It’s story revolves around a team of young heroes, a majority of which have the ability to pilot their own huge robots which they then fly into space to defend Earth from other huge robots; something the Anime community has never seen before one hundred and fifty times. The leader of this small team, a boy named Daichi Manatsu, is THE Captain Earth, well…at least that’s what I refer to him as when I can’t quite remember his name. When a series about dueling mechs comes along, audiences can’t help but imagine being in control of their very own fighting robot. Bandai Namco Games have just announced that they will be releasing a PlayStation Vita game based on the highly-popular Anime series on the 26th of February next year in Japan. It’s titled, as you have already seen, ‘Captain Earth: Mind Labyrinth’ and will feature the gameplay mechanics of a…visual novel…so, there’s not going …

Date A Live Season 1 Review

‘Kiss the girls, save the world.’ Who would have thought that tagline was literal? Well in the ridiculous world of Date A Live, the very fate of Planet Earth rests on the shoulders of a horny teen who must systematically make destructive spirits in the form of cute girls fall in love with him. It is harem anime turned up to 11; silly, packed with fan-service and just plain fun. Date A Live is preposterous at worst but at its best the series is actually capable of truly affecting emotion. While most of the situation regarding the spirits is played for laughs, when it is done for drama the story of these tragic figures will steal your heart as well. They are given a sense of character beyond archetypes, something uncommon in the harem genre. Their detailed characterization is a welcome breath of fresh air in this genre and Date A Live makes some major strides to bring a new flavour to trodden territory. The high stakes situation at the core of Date A Live involves …

Hunter x Hunter on Hiatus Until God Knows When

As we previously reported, the Hunter x Hunter manga went on hiatus due to Yoshihiro Togashi, the series creator, suffering severe back pain at his work desk. News has just broke through the latest Weekly Shonen Jump that the hiatus for Hunter x Hunter has continued because Togashi is still undergoing treatment in hospital. It was said that Togashi was even unable to sit at his desk as a result of the crippling back pain. As of now the manga is on hiatus indefinitely. No return date has been set for the manga and with the additional bad news of the anime’s imminent ending, I’d say it is a pretty crummy time to be a Hunter x Hunter fan. I for one hope he gets the treatment he needs and heals up soon. Stay tuned for more information on this developing story. -30-

The Origins of Dragon Quest Explained by Series Creator Yuji Horii

Square Enix has released a video featuring Yuji Horii, the creator of Dragon Quest, talking about the origins of the wildly popular RPG series. Before creating Dragon Quest, Horii had worked on adventure games almost exclusively. However he became interested in creating RPG games because he liked the ideas of character building, simplified gameplay and more complex story telling. He mentions that his original goal was to create a fun game that anyone could play. In my opinion he succeeded considering he has made generations of fans addicted to his games. You can check out the video below for Yuji Horii’s full comments on the origins of Dragon Quest. -30-

Disgaea 5 – Meet Kilia, Seraphine and Usalia

The Netherworld is a strange but wonderful place full of odd creatures both horrendous and cute. If you’re a human weighed down by sin you’ll be sent to the pits of the Netherworld where you’ll be broken down and built back up as a penguin-like creature called a Prinny. Some lucky otherworldly beings will be born as a demon wherein which they’ll spend the rest of their lives growing stronger, one day overthrowing their respective leaders and taking over as lords of the domain. Others fall under the category as monsters, while not as strong as demons these monsters do possess more power than humans but not quite enough to become overlords. What I’m saying is…the Netherworld is a mixed up place with many contradictory rules, more races than you can point an oversized blade at and a social hierarchy so corrupt and unfair it’ll make your head spin. 4Gamers, the Japanese online publication, has updated their website to include more information about Nippon Ichi Software’s (NIS) upcoming strategy RPG ‘Disgaea 5’. It was only …

Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth – Fear The Eden Syndrome!

‘Digimon’ shouldn’t be the only thing a human is scared of, especially when they’re living in the world of ‘Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth’ where a digital disease is more damaging than any metallic monster you’d see wandering the net. Being a ‘Digidestined’ used to be easy: A beam of benevolent light would shine down upon you, a small device would appear in your hand and you’d eventually find a digi-pal to hang with while you battle the forces of evil…That’s not so much the case in the upcoming PlayStation Vita exclusive. 4Gamers, the Japanese online publication, today updated their site to include a bunch of extra information regarding the upcoming game, most of which happens to revolve around this strange new disease and a monochromatic character you’ll meet while investigating. Heading into cyberspace in ‘Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth’ is actually quite bad for your health, so check yourself before you digi-wreck yourself. Those who have come into contact with ‘Digimon’ and are constantly coming back and forth between the real world and what is …

Compare The Pair – ATLUS Releases “Persona Q” Protagonist Trailers

Persona 3 or Persona 4: Which has the best protagonist? Is it the grey-haired, grey-eyed Yu Narukami, or is it the headphone-wearing Makoto Yuki who takes the cake as top main character? ATLUS’ upcoming ‘Persona’ title for the Nintendo 3DS ‘Persona Q: Shadow Of The Labyrinth’ has both the cast of ‘Persona 3’ and ‘Persona 4’ come together for one hell of a hair-raising adventure through a dark and mysterious labyrinth located under Yasogami High School. Because of it’s ‘crossover’ layout, the game has players chose one of the two main characters from their respective ‘Persona’ titles. Despite being two completely different characters, no matter which you chose, players will be able to follow the same overall story with small changes being in the way you interact with the rest of the cast. ATLUS have today released two English trailers for the game; one of which focuses on the ‘Persona 3’ protagonist Makoto Yuki and the other focusing on the ‘Persona 4’ protagonist Yu Narukami. The trailers showcase both the young men in combat and …

Goro Miyazaki: “I Can’t Be My Father”

At a recent publicity event for Ronia the Robber’s Daughter, the television anime series from Polygon Pictures in association with Studio Ghibli, Goro Miyazaki the son of legendary director Hayao Miyazaki, addressed living in his fathers shadow. Goro Miyazaki has previously directed Studio Ghibli films Tales from Earthsea and From Up On Poppy Hill. During the press conference when questioned on being his father’s successor he remarked, “I can’t, and don’t, think of myself as a writer. I can’t be a post-Hayao Miyazaki, there’s no way I can.”  He went on to discuss the differences between himself and his father, “I can do work if I’m given a theme and if I have the right circumstances. I can’t be like him and have my own studio and make things from original works, from my own ideas.” This has been a question on many Ghibli fans mind and it is honestly refreshing to see Goro Miyazaki lay it on the table so honestly. Personally I find Goro’s outing in Tales from Earthsea to be one of the most interesting …

Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sappphire – Japanese Overview Trailer Released

The name pretty much says it all, people. Nintendo have, just today, released a brand-new trailer for the upcoming ‘Pokemon’ video game remakes that basically take audiences through everything we’ve seen of the game so far but in a little more detail, showing off the smaller elements of the game and doing a good job at getting me hyped the heck up! Though I’m sure you’re all feeling it too, I can’t be the only one who’s blood is red hot with excitement! It’s entirely in Japanese so, for the most part, you wont really understand what is being said but any true ‘Pokemon’ fan will know exactly what it is they’re looking at and what is being explained…sorry, non-Pokemon fans but if you’re not interested in the game then why are you reading this article? We’re now only two months away from the official worldwide release of the game on the 21st of November (28th in Europe…sorry, Euro gamers) and anticipation could not be higher! Let the trumpets sound as we fly back in …

Disgaea 5 Is Looking Damn Good! First Screenshots Released

It’s so close to the announcement of the game and already Nippon Ichi Software (NIS) have released the very first screenshots and character design images of their upcoming RPG title ‘Disgaea 5′. It’s clear that these guys and gals are on the freakin’ ball! Sony held a press conference just a couple of days ago wherein which they announced a bunch of new video games. One of those games happened to be ‘Disgaea 5’, a video game that NIS mentioned a while ago stating that it is on it’s way. Well they weren’t lying because only a couple of days later the world has been met with the very first screenshots of the upcoming series addition! Though we have no information about who these characters are or what exactly they do, what we do know is that the game is looking down right fantastic.   Alongside these screenshots comes an image which seems to show a special edition version of the game that looks to come with what looks like a soundtrack and art book. …

Bandai Namco Games Is Bringing “Mobile Suit Gundam” To The PlayStation 4

PlayStation consoles are by far the greatest platforms for gamers who are huge fans of Anime video game titles. Be they based on an Anime series or simply designed in an Anime style, you’ll always find a whole bunch of games that closely resemble or are based on the popular visual medium. It was a ‘Naruto’ fighting game that caught my attention as a young boy and it is what lead me to eventually be the PlayStation fan I am today. Hopefully you see where I’m going with this. Despite the amount of Japanese-made titles announced for the PlayStation 4 – Persona 5, Disgaea 5, Dragon Ball: Xenoverse, etc – the console does not feel complete. To get the true ‘OtakuXGamer’ experience, one must play games of all Anime-type genres…including ‘mecha’, and no Otaku-driven console is complete without a ‘Gundam’ game. Bandai Namco Games revealed, through Sony’s small press conference just a few days ago, that they will be bringing a brand-new ‘Mobile Suit Gundam’ game to the PlayStation 4 in 2015. Though it has …

“One Piece: Super Grand Battle! X” – Second Trailer Released

Want to finally determine who the most powerful ‘One Piece’ character is? I know I do and that’s why I’m so excited for Ganbarion’s upcoming Nintendo 3DS title ‘One Piece: Super Grand Battle! X’, the ‘Jump Super Stars-style’ action brawler that has been said will feature over 80 characters from the long-running series, including originals from it’s many movies. Before Tokyo Game Show which is just around the corner, Ganbarion have decided to release another trailer for the 4-player action title and it rocks ultimate! KABOOM! The developer, known for many ‘Shonen Jump’ video games, will hopefully show more of ‘One Piece: Super Grand Battle! X’ at the upcoming expo but for now they’ve given us a four minute trailer that takes viewers through each and every detailed aspect of the soon-to-be hit video game. Japan will be getting this game on the 13th of November but nothing has been said so far about a Western release. I’m hoping Bandai Namco Games, who have brought out a whole bunch of Anime video game titles including …

Choice. The constant that drives humanity forward and skews life down a path yet unseen. Be it as simple as choosing the words you speak, or as difficult as changing a life, everything builds towards a future. However, in the cruellest twist of irony and fate, when the time comes for you to lay your soul bare and grasp your own destiny, you may find that you have no choice at all. One year after the events of the previous game, we find ourselves stepping into the shoes of one Ludger Will Kresnik, a quiet, responsible man with a penchant for cooking. One day, Ludger sets out to work, with the simple intention of cooking for his customers and continuing his life (due to him recently failing the entrance exam for Sprius, a large organisation that at least requires its agents to be able to survive monster assaults). However, it would seem that fate has other designs, as he soon finds himself aboard a train that has recently been hijacked by the radical group Exodus. It is aboard …

‘Cross Ange’ mecha anime from the people behind ‘Gundam SEED’ and ‘Valvrave’ looks awesome

Sunrise’s upcoming mecha anime Cross Ange may very well be the most anticipated anime series of Fall 2014 when you consider its pedigree. The staff for the series is composed of former Valvrave and Gundam SEED staff, both of which are renowned as two of the most ground breaking mecha in anime history. Gundam SEED taking the Gundam franchise into new terrain, whereas Valvrave tore down mecha conventions and anime tropes at every turn. So what does that mean for Cross Ange? Well it has some huge boots to fill, but if its trailer is anything to go by, it looks to be awesome. The series follows the character of Ange, a girl who must pilot a mecha to fight against dragons among other enemies. Full details of the story are still relatively scarce at this time but more details are sure to arise closer to the premiere of the series. Check out the trailer below: The staff for Cross Ange includes Mitsui Fukuda as creative director, Yoshiharu Ashinu as director and Tatsuto Higuchi working on …

Battle Royale: Angel’s Border Review

Battle Royale shocked the world with its controversial subject matter upon its original release. Some countries flat-out refused to release or even acknowledge the film or novel. The story of Battle Royale is a shout into the void, a fist raised in the air against the messed up world we live in. It is that rebellious heart that captured the imaginations of audiences across the globe and with Battle Royale: Angel’s Border, fans of the original have some extended reading to attend to. Focusing in on one of the saddest parts of Battle Royale, the lighthouse scene, Battle Royale: Angel’s Border adds another layer of heartbreak onto what is already a tragic scene to say the very least. Diving deeper into the characters of the lighthouse girls, this manga explores the other side of the story for the ill-fated inhabitants of the lighthouse. Not unlike a Shakespearean play, Battle Royale: Angel’s Border plays out in Acts and chapters serving as scenes in each ‘Act’. Where the Shakespearean vibe really hits home is the inherent tragedy …
