Assassination Classroom – Key Anime Visual Released

When a violent alien crashes to Earth, hijacks a class of young students and threatens to destroy the world if it is not killed within a year, what the hell do you do? I would personally run, hide and begin praying to every single God I know because there’s no way I have what it takes to kill an extra terrestrial! Luckily for me, the ‘Assassination Classroom’ Anime is on it’s way and maybe it might be able to give me a few pointers on how to keep my composure in such high-pressure situations. Last week my fellow writer Luke Halliday brought you news of the Anime’s confirmation (read the article here) which was officially unveiled through the most recent issue of Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump today. Alongside the official reveal came the Anime’s very first visual of which I’m sure you’ve already taken a nice look at. To make this set of announcements even sweeter, the magazine also brought us news of a live-action adaptation of the Manga. Fans of the series must be …

Hayao Miyazaki and Toshio Suzuki Invited To Join U.S. Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences

There’s no stopping for Studio Ghibli. It was only a few days ago that Hayao Miyazaki was inducted into the Science Fiction and Fantasy Hall Of Fame, and now it has been revealed that the man alongside his old friend and Studio Ghibli’s general manager Toshio Suzuki have both been invited to join, as the title says; the U.S. Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Joining the Academy would mean that these two industry legends will be eligible to vote for the Academy Awards. This seems like it would be a big deal for them but, reader, you must remember that Hayao Miyazaki has been invited to join the Academy many times in the past only to respectfully decline. Maybe now that Miyazaki-sensei has retired, he and Suzuki-sensei will accept the invitation to join. It has been said in the past that the reason Miyazaki declined last time was because he believed the invitation insinuated that he was near the end of his career. Sometimes things get taken out of context, he may …

Natural Doctrine – Western Release Date Announced

Haven’t heard of ‘Natural Doctrine’? That’s ok, until a week or two ago I was in the same shoes as you. ‘Natural Doctrine’, like a lot of RPGs out there, is set in a fantasy world populated by a slew of different races and species, some nice but others evil. As the player, you control a guard soldier named Jeff who’s main job in life is to venture out into dangerous places, wiping out benevolent forces and making it safe to travel to therefor opening the area up to be examined and excavated for its natural resources. Jeff’s life gets turned upside down one day when his crew and he run discover something that could mean the destruction of his kingdom. This game – developed and published by Kadokawa Games – was released in Japan back in April and, while it received good scores by critics, sold poorly. NIS America recently picked up the publishing rights to the title for North America and Europe, and has just recently announced the official release dates for the …

Mecha Naruto To Make An Appearance In Anime Special

We all love ‘Naruto’. Even if you hate Naruto, you still love…’Naruto’. Sentences like this don’t entirely work when the main character has the same name as the series but I’m going to just push through it anyway. I’ve met many fans of the hit Shonen Jump series ‘Naruto’ in the past that, while in love with the series, don’t entirely like the main character. I happen to be one of those people but I pride myself on being able to see the good as well as the bad, even if the bad is a ninja wearing a bright orange jumpsuit. There isn’t anything ‘stealthy’ about that. If you’ve been following recent news you may be aware that there is a brand-new ‘Naruto’ fighting game heading to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 very soon. It’s a game called “Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution’ and it features a new playable character that stands out above the rest. While you, reader, may be excited about throwing done as one of the past Hokages or maybe …

Psycho-Pass Complete Series Review

If justice had a psycho-pass it would only be in shades of grey. Such is the alchemy of a series such as Psycho-Pass, set within a future society ruled by an absolute authoritarian governing technology known as the Sybil System, it becomes quickly apparent that there are no real rights and wrongs, only the shades of grey that lie between. The series follows Akane Tsunemori, a young detective assigned to the Public Safety Bureau with the task of commanding a team of Enforcers (latent criminals forced to work for the PSB as ‘hunting dogs’) in order to deal with situations regarding civilians whose psycho-pass assessment reads in the negative. The titular psycho-pass is a instantaneous scan of a person’s crime coefficient, or in laymen terms, their likelihood to commit a crime. Yes, you read that right, the detectives are tracking down and detaining or in some cases executing suspects that have not even committed a crime yet. That is the very nature of the Sybil System, it parades as a black and white justice system but …

Beelzemon Replica Jacket Announced For Digimon’s 15th Anniversary

About two days ago (from the time this article was written) we got word from Bandai themselves that they, for the 15th anniversary of ‘Digimon’, will be releasing something very special. Now this piece of news came in the form of a teaser image that depicted two silhouettes reminiscent of the original ‘Digivices’ which belonged to characters Tai and Matt. This particular product has yet to be official announced but we here at SnapThirty have a pretty good idea of what it is. Here’s the thing; we thought that was going to be the end of it. We thought they would tease a huge release and that’s it but we were silly for doing so because news has come out of Japan today which details another ‘Digimon’ release related to it’s 15th anniversary. It was announced that a replica Beelzemon jacket alongside a leather card holder and t-shirt both designed around the leather-clad biker will also be released as part of the celebratory period which will last hopefully from now until at least the end …

This is my jam! Aiko’s latest single ‘Ashita no Uta’ is smooth, baby!

Smooth as silk and soft like it too, Aiko’s unique vocal alchemy is a striking one at that and with her latest single ‘Ashita no Uta‘ getting a music video, I feel it is my personal obligation to say: damn man, this is my jam! Aiko released her latest album back in May which featured ‘Ashita no Uta’ as the lead track on the album. The song has a certain swing to it, a jazz influence that flows from one beat to the next seamlessly. Her soulful voice carries the melody tenderly. Aiko is a veteran of the Japanese music scene and her latest album has really solidified her legacy as one of Japan’s best vocalists. Check out the music video for ‘Ashita no Uta’ and let Aiko take all your worries away with her soulful performance, even if its only for a few minutes. You can thank me later. -30-

Attack on Titan Collection 1 Review

Wow. This series doesn’t pull any punches does it? Beginning with the everlasting message that humanity is merely a helpless and directionless speck caught in the ever moving current known as the universe, our spirits are swiftly crushed yet again. For even in a harsh reality, personal tragedy may still accrue. However, once we’re sufficiently devoid of joy, Attack on Titan reveals yet another truth of existence: As long as there is a glimmer of hope, good may triumph. All you require are those willing to take a stand…and also yell a lot. Seriously, if there’s one thing you can take away from this experience, it’s that humanity’s bark is as loud as it’s bite. When we first meet our heroes, they are nought but children who are forced to live within the confines of a wall. Though all that stands between humanity and imminent extinction, these walls serve as ever present reminders that mankind is not free. If you haven’t guessed by now, Attack on Titan doesn’t exactly convey the world as a joyous place …

The Shrinking Borders of the Digimon World: The Woes of Western Localisation

Cast your minds back, if you would, to a magical time known as 1999. The 21st century was still on the horizon and virtual pets were all the rage. Born out of some kind of business trickery that convinced children responsibility was fun (which it kinda was), these digital companions created a bond between man and machine that would never be undone…until the pet passed on and was immediately replaced by another. But then that bond would stand the test of limited time, until you left it alone to go to school, or play with friends, or watch TV…man, games used to be very clingy. But we loved ’em and one thing that Digimon had over Tamagotchi (the heavy hitters in virtual pet technology) was simple: battling. Boy was that fun. Raise your pet to be happy and healthy? Cool. Raise your pet to be happy, healthy and powerful? Awesome. But wait, what is that? Is it…an anime? Why yes, I believe it is. An anime born from a virtual pet, who would’ve guessed? But whatever …

Hayao Miyazaki – Welcomed into the Science Fiction and Fantasy Hall of Fame

Ah yes, the wind truly DOES rise. For Hayao Miyazaki, this wind zooms past his feet and pushes him to legendary heights. As the co-founder of Studio Ghibli alongside his long-time friend and confidant Isao Takahata, Miyazaki-sensei has added volumes of meaning-filled content to the world of cinema. There’s something amazing about the films Hayao Miyazaki creates. He brings a sense of beauty and wonder to the screen, much like the way I believe Disney used to…unlike Disney though, Mr. Miyazaki’s films have stayed true to themselves and have continued to provide what I believe to be the most exciting movie-going experience ever. It’s just unfortunate that they barely ever get theatrical releases down here in Australia. Regardless of that, we all know Hayao Miyazaki to be animation royalty, this is a truth that cannot be disputed and it looks as though the nice people over at the Science Fiction and Fantasy Hall of Fame agree with me because today they have welcomed Mr. Miyazaki into their all-star ranks alongside director Steven Spielberg and writer …

Sword Art Online II promo trailer shoots things, also Kirito is a girl now

Getcha head in the game! Sword Art Online became a blockbuster success in 2012 with its ‘trapped in an MMORPG’ concept striking a chord with a generation of anime viewers who find themselves in the very same situation. The series explored the world of Sword Art Online for its first cour and then decided to turn all the characters into elves for the rest of the first season as they flew around in some strange fairy world trying to save Asuna from some horny slime-bag trying to marry her comatose body. So yeah it did kind of go off the rails there, but forget all of that because Sword Art Online II is set to premiere on the 7th of July and it looks to course correct by replacing swords with guns and replacing Kirito’s penis with a vagina. Wait.. what? Whether you love it or you hate it, you cannot deny the cultural impact of Sword Art Online on anime. The brand new trailer for Sword Art Online II can be seen below. Get …

Sheena Ringo’s new single ‘NIPPON’ encourages you to yell for Samurai Blue in World Cup

With World Cup fever sweeping the globe, it isn’t any surprise that Japan, one of the premiere soccer nations in Asia, are in on the pandemonium. J-Pop idol Sheena Ringo has released a brand new single quite patriotically titled ‘NIPPON’. The song is Japan’s official theme song for their World Cup efforts and is played on heavy rotation during the NHK’s broadcast of the World Cup. The song is described by Ringo as having a “strong attitude of someone who is going for the win in a win or lose situation of life”. So like win and fight and stuff soccer ball kicking people of the world. For all those crazy Japanese soccer fans out there, Ringo encourages you all to yell for a Samurai Blue victory in the World Cup. After reading some of her comments on the song, I have come to the conclusion that Sheena Ringo is a pretty quirky gal. You can check out the song below to feel the Nippon pride flow through you. -30-

We all need a little bit of love in our lives right? The manga series has been critically acclaimed for its realistic take on teenage romance and sexuality. The film looks to recapture that realism by having One Direction playing at all times in the vicinity of any teenage girl. Just kidding of course, but One Direction do perform the film’s theme song ‘Happily’. The theme song is featured in the brand new promo trailer for the film which was released earlier today. To get a glimpse at this lovely film about love and other things that teenage girls are interested in, take a look at the trailer for the film below. Say ‘I Love You’ is set to hit the silver screen in Japan on July 12th, 2014. The anime series is available for streaming at Crunchyroll here. Hanabee Entertainment …

Glasslip anime gets promo trailer, looks rather peaceful

P.A. Works are the anime studio behind last year’s modern anime classic The Eccentric Family, more recently they worked on Nagi no Asakura, a fantasy slice-of-life series. Their latest series is called Glasslip, a peaceful slice-of-life series revolving around the life of a high school girl who dreams of one day becoming a glass artisan. Ahead of its premiere on July 3rd, a promotional trailer has hit the airwaves for the series and wowee does it look like a pleasant little romp. The series seems like a peaceful summer’s afternoon in anime form. Don’t believe me? Check out the trailer below and see for yourself. Who ever thought glass could be so wonderful? I for one certainly underestimated the beauty of glass and look forward to being taught a lesson or two in glass artistry in Glasslip, a peaceful anime about making glass into things. -30-

ATLUS, you magnificent son of a gun! You’re the gift that keeps on giving and today you’ve brought us, the pop culture world, another two gameplay trailers for your upcoming ‘Persona’ fighting game ‘Persona 4 Arena Ultimax’. Readers, if you’ve been following recent pop culture news, you’d know that ATLUS has been dominating when it comes to constant news updates regarding their latest video game titles. ‘Be it Persona 4: Dancing All Night’, ‘Persona Q: Shadow Of The Labyrinth’ or ‘Persona 4 Arena Ultimax’, not a week goes by that we don’t get some sort of trailer, screenshot or general info release and, ATLUS, we love you for it! The two videos – one featuring Shadow Labrys and the other featuring Chie Satonaka – have these lovely ladies duke it out with other fighters as they show off their moves and look damn good doing it. What’s Better Than The ‘Persona 4 Arena’ Fighting Game? A Stage Play!

No need to double check the article title, readers. I didn’t mistype nor did I misread source material. This is one hundred percent legit. It was today announced that the ATLUS fighting game ‘Persona 4 Arena’ is set to be turned into a stage play. Yes, a stage play. Now I know what many of you are thinking and, yes, both ‘Persona 3’ and ‘Persona 4’ inspired plays of their own but they were, in my opinion, more story driven than ‘Persona 4 Arena’ which, for all intents and purposes, is simply a fighting game. I hope that bigger fans of the game don’t snap me too hard for under exaggerating just how important the story may or may not be or how in depth they believe it truly is, it just takes me by surprise that a fighting game is getting it’s very own stage play. Shutaro Oku – who actually directed the ‘Persona 3’ and ‘Persona 4’ stage plays – will be returning as the director for the ‘Persona 4 Arena’ play. Jun …

Exploring Madman’s AnimeLab Streaming Service, The Future of Anime is Now

On May 28th, 2014, just about a month ago, Madman Entertainment launched their official anime streaming service AnimeLab. The service has made major waves in the anime industry all the while still being in beta phase. It has emerged as a true contender to the colossus that is Crunchyroll and it is arguably the first true dedicated Australian anime streaming service. While in the past Madman had their Screening Room, it was not without its flaws. A somewhat difficult navigation system and the fact that the service was tucked away in Madman’s website made it a difficult service to follow along with. There was always the feeling that it should have been its own website, its own thing separate from the Madman online store. Now here we are with AnimeLab, the next stage in the evolution of anime simulcasting and streaming. Upon signing up and jumping into the site, I found myself wowed by the impressive design of the site. It is very streamlined and robust, with a an appealing colour scheme to boot. But that …

There’s Something Special In Store For The 15th Anniversary Of ‘Digimon’

Can you believe it has almost been fifteen years!? You never really think about how long a franchise has been around until an anniversary celebration like this is announced. I remember my younger days, waking up early before I had to get ready for school, sitting down in front of the television and waiting for my favorite show to start; ‘Digimon Adventure’. From there my love for the series only grew. I collected every toy and game that I possibly could have. My folks, on the other hand, probably got sick of taking me to local toy stores every week looking for a specific character or digital device. I loved every minute of it; the anticipation, the travel, the wait in line and the obtaining of a new toy. There’s nothing like a child’s excitement and it’s something I’m sure Bandai is aware of. There has been a recent addition to the official Premium Bandai Store website which happens to feature a teaser image for an upcoming ‘Digimon’ release to celebrate it’s 15th Anniversary. This …

Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth – New Screenshots and Info Released

When it comes to ‘Digimon’, I consider myself somewhat of a master. A ‘Digimon Master’, if you will. It’s a series that I, as well as countless people the world over, grew up with and it has stuck with me to this day. I find myself saddened because of it’s lack of presence here in the West but I’m also joyed when reading that the franchise is continuing to expand even though it is lost in countries outside of Japan. The more people I talk to, the more I realize that there is indeed a market for the series in Western countries and my faith in the taste of the masses is, once again, restored. It’s days like today, days when Bandai Namco Games grace my computer screen with more ‘Digimon’ video game news, that I truly feel the sense of elation I once did as a young boy following the series. Bandai Namco Games Japan today updated the official ‘Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth’ website to include information regarding the main characters of the game …

Persona 4 The Golden Animation – English-Subtitled Trailer Released

I’m not sure about all of you reading this but I almost forgot that the second ‘Persona 4’ anime series ‘The Golden Animation’ is only just around the corner. The series – which will tell the story of the ‘Persona 4 Golden’ PlayStation Vita game – is set to begin broadcasting in the upcoming Summer anime season alongside shows like ‘Sailor Moon Crystal’, ‘Hanamonogatari’ and ‘Sword Art Online II’, all of which have a massive level of hype surrounding them. Aniplex of America today announced that they will be streaming the new ‘Persona’ series as it is broadcast in Japan alongside other digital distributors like Crunchyroll, Daisuki and Hulu. To celebrate this announcement, the American Anime distributor has released an official English-subtitled trailer for ‘Persona 4 The Golden Animation’. Voice actors from the game and former anime series will return for their respective roles in ‘The Golden Animation’. The trailer has not one spoken word within it but features musical tracks reminiscent of the game which, if you’re anything like me, you love more …

Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution – Sage Hashirama Joins The Fray

As far as ‘Naruto’ games go, ‘Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution’ would have to be the most in-depth. At least that’s what it is slowly making itself out to be. Over the past few months we’ve been, let’s say, ‘bombarded’ with ‘UNSR’ news, all of which has been pretty exciting stuff! As time goes by, like any game, we’re shown more and more of it with Bandai Namco Games slowly but surely releasing little nuggets of information here there and everywhere, all of which is massively exciting especially if you’re a ‘Naruto’ fan. Now even though my love for the series has almost entirely diminished, I still find myself wanting to see more of this game. Whatever Bandai Namco and CyberConnect2 are doing…they’re doing it damn well! The latest piece of ‘UNSR’ news comes in the form of a magazine scan portraying both Madara Uchiha as well as Hashirama Senju who is depicted in his ‘Sage Form’. This scan has confirmed that Hashirama will be playable in the new game alongside his ‘Sage Form’. Why is …

Terror in Resonance coming to Madman’s AnimeLab Streaming Service

Shinichiro Watanabe is a legend in the anime world and for good reason, with anime classics such as Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo and Kids on the Slope under his belt, he has made a name for himself as one of the greatest anime directors of all time. With the return of his ongoing series Space Dandy imminent, it will not be the only anime he has in store for us. Beginning next July is Terror in Resonance, a psychological thriller from Watanabe. The brand new series will follow a shellshocked Japan attempting to make sense of a terrorist attack on their home soil. The attack is shrouded in mystery and the cause of it is largely unknown. The widespread reaction is best described as terror in resonance. For those interested in checking out this highly intriguing new series from Watanabe, there is good news! Madman Entertainment have acquired the series for simulcasting and will be streaming it through their AnimeLab service. You can take a look at the AnimeLab trailer for Terror in Resonance below, …

Hunter x Hunter manga going on hiatus for a week

Yoshihiro Togashi is at it again! Following next week’s chapter of Hunter x Hunter, the series will once again be going onto hiatus, except this time it will only be for one week, likely due to Togashi having a week long celebration of Dragon Quest’s recent Guiness World Record win. Thankfully the series will only be going on hiatus for a week, it is a much more tolerable amount of time than the 2 and half year hiatus that preceeded this one. Since the return of the manga the series has run for a total of 5 chapters and has dived head first into the Dark Continent arc. The manga will return on July 14th with chapter 346. So until that day comes I suppose we might as well celebrate Dragon Quest because it is awesome and what not. -30-

Blade of the Immortal author starting Romance Manga series

In a rather interesting turn of events, Hiroaki Samura the author of samurai action manga epic Blade of the Immortal has announced in Kodansha’s Afternoon magazine that he is starting up a romance manga series which will rather strangely not feature samurai at all. It is almost as if the Samura is trying to tell a story unrelated to his previous manga in any shape or form, fancy that huh? The new romance manga is tentatively titled Waves, Listen to Me and will tell a tale of a man and woman and their romance filled with tears and laughter set against the backdrop of the lovely city of Sapporo. the manga is set to launch in July in Afternoon magazine. Samura’s Blade of the Immmortal series concluded its run back in 2012 after a 19 year long serialization. It will surely be interested seeing him tackle a subject that does not involve blades and fighting and cool samurai stuff like that. -30-

New “Afro Samurai” Game In The Works

Remember 2007? Good, because apart from ‘Afro Samurai’ I don’t actually remember much so maybe you could fill me in on what exactly happened that year. As a youngster still in High School, I used to troll the Anime section of any store that had one, buying random box sets or special editions. Really I wanted anything that was already complete, something I could watch in its entirety without waiting…and that’s when ‘Afro Samurai’ came along. It was a perfect release. It’s broadcast began early 2007 and by the end of the year it was on local shelves thanks to Australia’s own Madman Entertainment. Running for five episode, ‘Afro Samurai’ tells the story of a young man (voiced by non other than Samuel L. Jackson) seeking revenge on the gunfighter who killed his father. It’s set in an odd world that fuses hip-hop/rap culture with what looks to be ancient Japan, something we saw in the series ‘Samurai Champloo’ but something that was unlike the Watanabe series in so many ways. What initially attracted me …

“Freedom Wars” Japanese Launch Video Released

Imagine being born and within seconds of your new life you’re thrown into prison. That’s pretty damn terrible right? I mean, what did you do in there? You couldn’t have killed a guy, that straight up doesn’t make sense! *cough cough* Regardless of what it was that landed you in such ‘hot water’, you’re now a prisoner of the new world. Congratulations! Eating only bread and water is a good way to stay in shape, I hear. Don’t look at this too negatively though, you’re equipped with a whole bunch of high-powered weaponry to help you fight against these ‘Abductors’, as they’re called. Guns, swords, thick vines that shoot from your hand, you’ve got everything you need to be able to defend yourself against these genocidal beings so relax! You’ve also got yourself a nice …

Heads up, Australia! ‘One Piece – Unlimited World Red’ Hits Our Shores Tomorrow!

Are you all as excited as me about the Australian release of “One Piece – Unlimited World Red”?! Surely any good “One Piece” fan would be, not to say you’re a bad “One Piece” fan just because you’re heart isn’t about to beat out of your chest in such violent anticipation…moving on. It may be my intense love for the wonderful series that has forced me into this almost life-threatening state of anticipation, or it could be that I’m just glad to see that the PlayStation Vita is actually getting some attention…either way; tomorrow is the day that I can finally put my worries away and just get up to some no good pirate mischief. So this game, “One Piece – Unlimited World Red”, what’s so damn good about it? Good question, me. Allow me to explain: Developed by Ganbarion and published by Bandai Namco Games, this “One Piece” title, once again, takes players on the journey of a lifetime as they join the Straw Hat Crew on some familiar adventures. As of right now, …

A Royal Affliction – Examining Hunter x Hunter’s ‘Chimera Ant King’

Now that the dust has settled on the animated version of what will go down as one of the greatest stories told in anime, Hunter x Hunter’s the Chimera Ant arc, I feel now is an appropriate time to examine the journey of the star of the arc, the Chimera Ant King himself Meruem. Of course be warned that what follows is heavy in spoilers on the Chimera Ant Arc. While the King initially appears to be an explicitly evil creature and is even referred to as such by other characters, slowly but surely he changes into something more, something unlike anything the shonen genre has ever seen. His development is one of the most interesting and captivating in anime and his journey is simply unforgettable. Our early introduction to the character shows him as a violent and apathetic being who knows nothing but his unbridled power’s command over all. By the time the arc comes to a conclusion he has learned that there are other kinds of power and has ultimately gained the ability to …

Godzilla video game in the works for PS3

‘ROAR’ and ‘ARGHHH’ – Those are the famous words of the King of all Monsters. The hero that has inspired countless generations of monster lovers will be starring in his own brand new game from Bandai Namco Games. That’s right Godzilla will be getting a new video-game and it will be stomping a path onto the PlayStation 3. The announcement came through Famitsu magazine this past week. The magazine confirms that the game is currently 40% of the way through its development. Unfortunately the article neglects to mention whether or not that guy from Kick-Ass would rock up in the game and ruin it. I for one certainly hope not, I also hope to bleach any memory of his performance in the 2014 Godzilla film from my mind, but we aren’t all so lucky. The Godzilla video-game is set to destroy people’s wallets in Japan come Winter 2014. No word on whether it’ll be heading over to the Western front, but you know ole’ Zilla, he likes to get around. -30-

Dragon Ball Xenoverse – “Mysterious Character” Screenshots Released

Gosh I love “Dragon Ball Z”. I’ve always been a fan, even before I actually knew it was an Anime. I would love to say something along the lines of “I’ve bought every ‘Dragon Ball Z’ game” but there’s just so many of them! Maybe saying “I wish I owned every ‘Dragon Ball Z’ game” would be more accurate of a statement. Regardless, my love for the series and it’s games still burn bright so it comes as no surprise that I’m really excited for the upcoming fighting game title “Dragon Ball Xenoverse”. The first thing you notice about the game is it’s super bad-arse name…”Xenoverse”…dang. The other thing fans should have already noticed is the new character that featured in the announcement trailer of the game as well as in most of it’s press. This “mysterious character”, as he has been referred to as, has recently made another appearance around the web. Yes, he’s the star of his own batch of screenshot and, I must say; he’s one handsome fella! All jokes aside, Bandai …

The Butcher has left the building people. That’s right, Gen Urobuchi will not be handling the scripts for the second season of Psycho-Pass, in his stead Tow Ubukata, author of Mardock Scramble, will be taking over Urobuchi’s role as script director. As part of this role Ubukata will be overseeing the story composition and script direction for Psycho-Pass 2. Fans of Gen Urobuchi shouldn’t worry to much however as Urobuchi is still providing the scenario for the series. Psycho-Pass 2 will slam down with a release in October 2014. It will chronicle the continued story of a world of under control of the Sybil System, an omnipotent governing technology that has a twisted sense of justice. Civilians are constantly monitored through their ‘psycho-pass’ a measurement of their criminal potential. Ubukata has a history of writing science fiction stories and seems to be a perfect fit for Psycho-Pass 2. As we head towards the premiere of the series keep and eye out for more details on Psycho-Pass 2, with or without the murder loving Gen Urobuchi. …

Assassination Classroom Anime in the Works? UPDATE: Confirmed!

Assassination Classroom is a popular action comedy manga running in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine and it very well could be becoming an anime series if a domain registration is anything to go by. On the 22nd of June, a domain was registered under the name ANATSU-ANIME.com. Given that Assassination Classroom is titled Anatsu Kyoshitsu in Japanese, this could very well be a sign that the manga could be getting an anime adaptation. The series follows an unkillable extraterrestrial invading Earth an tasking a high school class to assassinate him within 1 year otherwise he will destroy the world. It is an unique series in the Weekly Shonen Jump line-up and has gained quite a following. With an OVA pilot already having been released as Jump Festa last year, it gives added weight to the possibility of a full-fledged series. So could Assassination Classroom be in line for an anime adaptation? Probably. UPDATE: The anime adaptation has been confirmed through a leak of next week’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. Thanks @newsmangajapon. -30-

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Part 1 to be published by Viz Media, rest of series being considered

Who is excited? YES I AM! The reason being that Viz Media have confirmed that they will indeed be releasing JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Part 1: Phantom Blood, with Volume 1 of the manga epic to hit shelves in February 2015. This is big news for fans of the JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure series, a series that has only ever had it’s third arc released in English language manga format in the past and heavily edited at that. While it is unknown whether we will be subject to visual edits, one can presume there will be some name changes made considering the large amount of copyrighted names used in the series. To make the announcement even sweeter, Viz Media also confirmed that they are considering releasing the rest of the series and that they have further announcements to make regarding future releases at Anime Expo on July 3rd. So of course keep your eyes tuned right here for when that news is dropped by Viz Media. Also Viz please release Part 4: Diamond is not Crash, thank …

Nisekoi x My Love Story crossover manga lands in Viz’s Weekly Shonen Jump

Just in case their wasn’t enough romcom mischief in your Nisekoi or My Love Story, the two romantic comedy manga have collided into one hell of a lovely crossover special aptly titled Nisekoi x My Love Story which has been published in Monday’s issue of Viz Media’s Weekly Shonen Jump. Nisekoi follows Raku a young man who finds himself with too many girlfriends/love interests, also he is in the Yakuza. Conversely My Love Story follows nice guy Takeo who struggles to get a girlfriend or even the attention of girls because he looks like a raging sumo, also his best friend is a pretty boy that steals all the girls that he likes. For those out of the know with these two particular manga series, there were two special chapters of Nisekoi x My Love Story that were published last year. One of them was published in the Japanese Weekly Shonen Jump magazine and the other in Bessatsu Margaret Magazine (home of My Love Story). The chapter that will appear in Viz’s Weekly Shonen Jump …

Rail Wars anime trailer pulls into station

Upcoming anime series Rail Wars has just gotten a full length trailer highlighting the series distinct lack of trains fighting in unbridled war. Rather it focuses on the people that ride the trains and the warring factions in the Japanese Rail Services, which does sound interesting but I mean, come on… fighting trains! Rail Wars is set for a Summer 2014 broadcast with a premiere date of July 3rd. It is being produced by relative newcomer to the anime industry, Passione studio. Yoshifumi Sueda (Haitai Naafa) is attached to direct the anime. Check out the trailer below to get a gander at the wonderfully bouncing world of Rail Wars. -30-

Dragon Quest Awarded “Longest Running JRPG Series” Guiness World Record

The 2014 Electronics Entertainment Expo was held last week over in Los Angeles, America and with it came some incredibly exciting news regarding the next generation of gaming. Alongside a slew of new trailers and information about upcoming ‘next gen’ titles came news of a certain little video game series that has just broken the world record for, and I quote; the ‘longest running Japanese RPG series’. From us here at SnapThirty, we say ‘congratulations’ to Square Enix and their long-running, JRPG franchise ‘Final Fantasy’. Wait…I’m sorry, it looks like I’ve gotten ahead of myself a bit. The actual record breaker is ANOTHER ‘Square Enix’ video game series and the preferred JRPG of Manga writer Yoshihiro Togashi (Yu Yu Hakusho, Hunter X Hunter), of course I’m talking about a series called ‘Dragon Quest’. ‘Square Enix’, as mentioned, accepted the award from the ‘Guiness Book Of World Records’ as part of the E3 2014 celebrations and I guarantee that fans of the series could not be more elated. It’s actually quite hard to wrap your head around …

Rurouni Kenshin films to get Theatrical Releases in Australia

Madman Entertainment have announced during their Supanova Perth 2014 industry panel today that they have plans to release the final two live-action Rurouni Kenshin films alongside the animated film Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods in theaters across Australia at some point in 2014. While there is no solid date set for the release of the three films, the fact that Madman promises a 2014 release period is satisfying enough. Both Rurouni Kenshin films will be released simultaneously and bring the samurai tale to a close ending it as a trilogy. On the other side of the fence, Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods previously saw screenings in Australia last year as part of the Japanese Film Festival, so this will be its second go around. The only difference is that this time there could be a potentially larger audience with Madman’s distribution. Madman did state that they will be confirming more information on the releases in the future, so do stay tuned for that news when Madman decides to drop it. The final two …
